Chapter 40; Same Gift

Becky’s POV

My heart sank.

“Please, I just want to stay till I feel a little better. I would have gone today if this hadn’t happened.” I said, a little panicky.

I didn’t have anywhere to go right now and wouldn’t want to appear in my mom’s place with a bruised face. That is, if I could find out where she lived.

“No, I meant you can’t go,” he said. “Do you really think I would send you away?” He sounded slightly offended.

I blushed.

“No, I just…it is just that you wanted me to leave. You said it would be better that way.” I reminded him.

“I know. I am sorry, I should never have listened to Celine. I know she probably lied and…never mind. I don’t want you going anywhere. Take a week off.”

“I can’t. Who will look after Anna?” I asked.

“You really care about her.” He smiled. “Don’t worry, I will find a way around it. You need to rest. I mean it.”

He touched my face again. His touch was gentle and I enjoyed it. I wondered if he wanted to do more than touch me, so I moved closer to him. H
