Celine's POV

My dad had been calling me all morning, but I refused to pick up his calls. I knew what he wanted to say and was in no mood to hear it. He had given me no peace ever since I had met and started dating Phillip. Every time it was the same question.

"Has Phillip proposed yet?"

"No? Well, make him."

As if it was possible to force a guy to marry you in this century.

I sighed. I have tried every trick I know to get him to commit, but no way. The fact we were sleeping together hadn’t helped. I glanced at my watch.

Lunchtime. I left my building and took a cab to his office, hoping to convince him to take me to lunch.

“Mr. Dale isn’t seeing visitors,” his secretary told me, but I ignored her and barged into his office.

“Hey babe, how about lunch? I asked smiling.

He raised his head and my smile froze.

“What are you doing here?” He demanded angrily. “I don’t remember inviting you over.”

“I missed you. I was hoping we could go to lunch together.”

“Look, Celine, our arrangement is

Becky’s PovI had just stepped out of the shower that morning, when there was a heavy knock on my door.“Coming!” I called. It came again, much louder. Either the person didn’t hear me, or they were just being annoying. I put on a robe and opened the door.Phillip came in. He was dressed in a dark suit and snow white shirt. He looked extremely handsome. The sight of him, and smell of his muscular cologne, took my breath away. Until I looked into his eyes, which were very unfriendly.“You have gotten what you wanted, haven’t you?” He said glaring at me.“Good morning, Mr. Dale,” I said sweetly. “Anything wrong?”He ignored me. “I don’t know what you did to my grandmother to get her so attached to you, but since she is, I have no choice but to let you stay.”“Thank you, Mr Dale. But I didn’t-““Don't thank me! Left to me, you would have been replaced with someone more competent.” I stared at him, trying to control my anger and desire at the same time. I wished he were ugly, so it would

Becky’s PovI was still admiring the pictures, when an elderly woman was wheeled in.She was about Anna’s age, size, and looked a little like her, except her bright blue eyes were dull and fearful. They brightened on seeing Anna. I knew instantly I would like her. The man pushing the wheelchair was another matter. He was in his early thirties, tall and dark haired, with a broad, pleasant smile. He looked friendly, but his gray eyes were cold and hard. I disliked him immediately.“Anna!” Brenda exclaimed. “It has been ages. I have missed you.”Anna laughed. “It has only been two weeks, dear. How are you feeling?”“Good and you? Where have you been? You weren’t at the club last week.”“I had a slight emergency.”“What happened?” Brenda asked, alarmed.“No, nothing serious, just a little change of staff. Meet my new caregiver, Rebecca.” Anna introduced me.“Nice to meet you sweetheart,” Brenda told me, smiling. “Nice to meet you too, Ms. Finley.” I said.“Call me Brenda. What happened to

Becky's POVThe ringing of my cellphone woke me up. I ignored it, hoping it would stop and not interrupt my beautiful dream. I was dreaming of being back home, my dad was alive, and I had gotten admission into college. We were celebrating. The phone buzzed until I had no other choice than to open my eyes. I grumbled, as I took it from the bedside table, answering the call without even checking to find out the caller.“Hello?” I asked, half asleep.“Hey Becky, how are you doing?” A voice asked brightly.“Who is this?” I asked, annoyed.“Frank, don’t you have my number?”My eyes snapped open. I struggled to sit up.“Frank? Sorry about that. I was half asleep,” I said.“It’s okay, how are you doing?”I held back a yawn. “Great, and you?”“I’m good. Are you still on for this afternoon?” He asked.“This afternoon?”“Yeah. I said I would show you around the city, remember?”I had completely forgotten.“If you don’t want to, it’s okay,” he said.“No, I do want to. Where and when can I meet yo

Becky’s POV I froze as his lips moved towards me, with my heart beating wildly. Frank was going to kiss me and I didn’t want that from him.Just before his lips reached mine, I quickly turned away.“Emmm…. What is the time?... I am hungry… very hungry,” I stammered. He looked embarrassed and I felt sorry for him.“Sure, so am I. There is a nice open-air restaurant around here. Let’s go there.”We walked in awkward silence to the restaurant. I didn't mean to make him feel bad. Maybe I should have let him kiss me? But it was too soon.We got to the restaurant and went to a table.“The clam chowder is excellent, would you like to try it?” He asked me.“I have never eaten clam chowder,” I said.“You will like it.”“Okay.”We ordered. Both of us were now beginning to relax after the earlier embarrassment.“So have you saved enough for college yet?” He asked.“I am getting there.”“What are you planning to study? Wait, let me guess, nursing.”I giggled. “Guess again.”“No? Hmm, you have a

Becky's POV My hand was seized in midair. I tried to claw the attacker with my other hand, while I opened my mouth to scream.“Hold it, Miss Richards, it’s me!” I stopped struggling and stared at him, Mr Dale?.“Calm down, it’s me,” he repeated.I gasped with relief, dropping my arms and sneakers. I fell against his strong muscular body, he held me to him. I breathed in his sharp cologne, trying to calm my beating heart, thankful it wasn’t someone wanting to harm me. We stayed like that for some seconds, then I became aware of what I was doing and pulled away, blushing bright red.“Mr Dale, you scared me! I thought you were a prowler. What are you doing here?” I asked, annoyed.“Sorry, I didn’t mean to. I was looking for you. I was here earlier, but you weren’t in. I came to see if you were back.”“I went out. Today is Sunday. You did say it was my free day to go anywhere I wanted, right?”“Yes, of course,” he sounded embarrassed. “I didn’t come to tell you to work, I came to ask yo

My heart rate increased at his touch.“I was on my way to Anna,” I said, awkwardly. He nodded and let me go.“Are you okay?” He asked, carefully.“Yes, thanks.”“Ehm... Last night you seemed nervous,” he said.“I wasn’t. I was just tired after all the many places we went to.”“We?” He asked.“Frank and I.”“You went out with Frank?” His eyes darkened slightly. I thought I heard a little jealousy in his voice.“Yes we did,” I said.“Where did you guys go?” He demanded.“A couple of interesting places.” I don't know why, but I can't stop thinking why he seemed interested in what I did.I guess he wanted to say something else, but decided otherwise, as I could see his mouth opened and closed after a while.“Why I came," he finally decided on what to say, "was that I remembered you said something about me being a prowler. She was sitting in an armed chair, Chris was standing by the window. They greeted us warmly as we came in.“Brenda sweetheart, how are you?” Anna asked.“Fine dear. You look beautiful Anna, did you just get your hair done?” She asked, admiring Anna’s hairdo.“Yes. Rebecca and I are just coming from the salon. I wished you had been there.” “So do I,” Brenda said. “You should have told me.”“But I did, didn’t Chris tell you?”“Sure I did, you must have forgotten, Brenda.” Chris was smiling, but his eyes weren’t friendly.“Silly me,” she giggled nervously, “he did tell me. Phillip's POV On my way to work I could not help, but kept picturing Frank and Rebecca together. They had gone out and had a lot of fun, judging from how tired she was last night.Where had they gone? What had they been doing? I knew my cousin, he really knew how to spoil a lady he was interested in.Had he kissed her? I shook my head. It was none of my business. There were adults. What they did was their business. So why did I keep thinking of it?Was I jealous. No! Never! Frank was my cousin and best friend. He hadn’t been lucky with relationships and if he liked Rebecca, fine. I was happy he had found someone. She was okay.So what was my problem? Why was their relationship bothering me?I tried to stop thinking about it, then another thought started bothering me.The thought of how she had looked a couple of days ago when her sash had loosened, and her robe had opened. I couldn’t get that picture out of my head, or the thought of how she would have reacted if I had touched her so

Becky’s POV“Are you okay?” Jenny asked as we left the café.“Sure,” I nodded.“I hope you aren’t thinking about Jerry, the jerk?”“A little. I don’t want the loser making trouble for me.”“Relax. He won’t. He is just making noise. Come on, let's go pick out your wedding dress.”I winced. I didn’t want to go with her because I knew her very well. She would pick out the thinnest, most expensive dress in the shop and I was right.“No way Jenny. This dress barely covers me,” I protested as she pulled it from the hanger.“So? It is a wedding, and not a funeral dress. This is perfect.”I squinted my eyes, “No it isn’t.”“Try it on and see.”Sighing, I did. It was worse than I imagined.“I need something more covered up,” I said, frowning. We tried a few more dresses, but still couldn’t find the right one.The store assistant asked us to come on Saturday afternoon when a new shipment would have arrived.“Okay, we will be here on Saturday, and I promise to get you a dress,” Jenny said.“I ca

I have to run this place.”“When you come back,” the company’s accountant added. “We will help you hold this place down. Meanwhile, concentrate on your wedding.”Everyone agreed. • Loving The Man I Wanted To Hate   Chapter 149. Hear Me Out

Becky’s POVA week has passed, and I still hadn’t gotten over the shock of my discovery. Phillip tried to help me heal, but I was still upset anytime I thought of how much time I had spent not knowing my real mother. I tried to imagine if she had ever come around to visit. She hadn’t. She just abandoned me.Luckily I had already quit Lenora Fashions, so I didn’t have to go there or see Sandra. She called me almost every day, but I ignored those annoying calls. I wanted nothing to do with her.“Sandra called me. She says she has been calling you, you aren’t picking up,” Phillip said at breakfast one morning.“Why is she calling me? What does she want?” I snapped.“To talk to you.”“She has survived years without talking to me, or even seeing me so why the sudden change?” “Babe, I know you are hurt and angry, but please you have to calm down and talk to her. She is your mother. And she loves you.”“No, if she did, she wouldn’t have abandoned me.”“She does. She didn’t abandon you. Try

  • Loving The Man I Wanted To Hate   Chapter 148. On the Run

Becky POVI ran as if someone was after me. I didn’t know where I was going and didn’t care. I just wanted to get away. Running, I had only one thing in mind: Sandra was my mother! I had lived with her for weeks and never realized it. Phillip was aware, why hadn’t he told me? Who else knew? I imagined that I had run a few feet, but I was shocked when I saw where I was; in the center of the town. I must have run for an hour, perhaps. My heart and legs ached. I observed around, and noticed a café I often went to across the street. I went in and ordered coffee immediately, eager to calm my nerves, and get hold of the situation at hand.It was unbelievable for me. I preferred to run away because I didn’t want to talk to anyone. I was suddenly very furious. All along I had been living with April who didn’t love me, thinking I was the problem, not knowing my real mom was so close and didn’t say anything. If I hadn’t started asking questions, would she have still kept silent? And why had m

Becky’s POVOn Saturday afternoon Sandra called me.“Rebecca, how would you like to come to dinner this evening?” She asked.“Yeah, sure but,” I hesitated. Phillip and I planned to go to a movie. “Phil and I have plans.”“I won’t keep you long. I promise. I want to talk to you. It is kind of important.”“Is everything okay?”“Yes. Please come.” She sounded serious.“Okay sure. When and where?” I asked worriedly.“Five in the evening. At my house. I will be waiting for you.”“Who was that?” Phillip asked, coming to join me in the living room.“Sandra. She is inviting me to dinner this evening. I will try to be early so we can move on with our plans.”“Sure.” He joined me on the sofa. “Are you okay? You looked troubled.”“Sandra’s tone speaks of anxiety. I don’t know what it is, but it sounds serious.“Really? Have you told her you are leaving her company?”“Yes, but she said she was okay with it.”“Then relax. I am sure it is nothing. Maybe she just wants to sort a few things out,” he

Becky’s POVI looked at the door, but did not see anything unusual. I turned back and was shocked to see Phillip on his knees, holding out a sparkling diamond ring.My hands flew to my mouth; my skin turned crimson red, embarrassed by the number of people staring at us.“Will you marry me, Rebecca?” I could hear some people in the background saying, “Awn!” “Say yes!”I didn’t need much convincing. I had longed for this day.“Yes!” I screamed excitedly. He slipped the ring on my finger, and kissed me. Observers clapped while I blushed red.I couldn’t wait to get back to our car.“Phillip! Did it have to be in the public?” I asked, still flushed.“I love you. I want the whole world to know.”He kissed me, then started the engine. When we got home we changed into our pajamas and cuddled together in the living room, while sharing a bottle of our favorite wine.“How would you like our wedding?” Phillip asked as we sipped our drinks.“Something small, but beautiful.”He laughed. “It cannot

  • Loving The Man I Wanted To Hate   Chapter 145. What’s That?

Becky’s POVOr could my mom have been lying to her sister? I didn’t think so. Why should she? I shut my laptop, and began thinking far back. Growing up, I had sometimes wondered if she was really my mother the way she treated me. Now after hearing this, I had my answer. But I needed more. Where would I get them? The only people who could have told me were her and my late Dad. I doubt if she would accept to tell me. I thought of Aunt Helen. Perhaps she knew something, and if she did, would she open up?I decided I will have to visit her and find out. But first, my arm had to heal. I was still sitting in the garden when an emerald green car drove in. I was wondering who it was before Phillip stepped out. He saw me and waved.“Nice car,” I complimented, walking over to him.“Do you think so?”“Sure. I love the color, and I know Anna would love it too,” I told him.“Anna? You think this is for her?”“Isn’t it? You talked about buying her a new car some weeks ago.”“Yeah, but her doctor

This is a Hibachi restaurant. We eat and are entertained.”I have heard of such a restaurant, but had never been in one. I watched the chef perform magic tricks, and settled down to be entertained. It was a lot more fun than I had imagined. Phillip fed me the food so all I did was relax and enjoy. When it was over, he drove me to see a movie.“I enjoyed today. Can we do it again tomorrow?” I said.“I will be happy to. Maybe I will find another interesting place.”“How did you find this one?”“I was searching for something to entertain you.”“Why?” I asked teasingly.“Because I love you.” I smiled, and kissed him.“How about we skip the movie and just go home to enjoy each other’s company?” I suggested.Phillip was okay with my request as he said, “Sounds good to me.”It was late when we go

Becky’s POV“What does it look like?” he asked, nibbling my ear.“It looks like something romantic,” I said, staring at the picnic basket near the swimming pool.“Yep, a picnic by the pool,” he grinned.“Have I told you, you are romantic?” I teased.“No. Never.”He kissed my forehead, then led me to a deck chair. He gently brought out the food from the basket, laying them on the table.“Do you like it?” He asked.“It is cute, where did you steal the idea?”“Steal? No way, I thought it up myself. Are you saying that I am not romantic?”I laughed and learned back in my chair, watching him-- wealthy, handsome, and romantic, I really was a lucky girl.We sat down to our little picnic. “Did you tell Anna I was going to be living here again?” I asked. He looked uncomfortable. “Well I tried to but…” he hesitated.“What is it?” I asked.“Gran doesn’t really remember you,” he said sadly.“What? She does not?” He shook his head.I sighed unhappily.
