Becky's POV My hand was seized in midair. I tried to claw the attacker with my other hand, while I opened my mouth to scream.“Hold it, Miss Richards, it’s me!” I stopped struggling and stared at him, Mr Dale?.“Calm down, it’s me,” he repeated.I gasped with relief, dropping my arms and sneakers. I fell against his strong muscular body, he held me to him. I breathed in his sharp cologne, trying to calm my beating heart, thankful it wasn’t someone wanting to harm me. We stayed like that for some seconds, then I became aware of what I was doing and pulled away, blushing bright red.“Mr Dale, you scared me! I thought you were a prowler. What are you doing here?” I asked, annoyed.“Sorry, I didn’t mean to. I was looking for you. I was here earlier, but you weren’t in. I came to see if you were back.”“I went out. Today is Sunday. You did say it was my free day to go anywhere I wanted, right?”“Yes, of course,” he sounded embarrassed. “I didn’t come to tell you to work, I came to ask yo
Becky’s Pov“I am so sorry.” I said, blushing.“It’s okay, I was just about to knock.” He held me around my middle, trying to steady me. My heart rate increased at his touch.“I was on my way to Anna,” I said, awkwardly. He nodded and let me go.“Are you okay?” He asked, carefully.“Yes, thanks.”“Ehm... Last night you seemed nervous,” he said.“I wasn’t. I was just tired after all the many places we went to.”“We?” He asked.“Frank and I.”“You went out with Frank?” His eyes darkened slightly. I thought I heard a little jealousy in his voice.“Yes we did,” I said.“Where did you guys go?” He demanded.“A couple of interesting places.” I don't know why, but I can't stop thinking why he seemed interested in what I did.I guess he wanted to say something else, but decided otherwise, as I could see his mouth opened and closed after a while.“Why I came," he finally decided on what to say, "was that I remembered you said something about me being a prowler. Why did you think so? Did you b
Becky's POV I wanted to take Anna sightseeing, but she insisted on going immediately to Brenda’s house. So Larry drove us there. The maid let us in. Brenda and Chris were in the living room. She was sitting in an armed chair, Chris was standing by the window. They greeted us warmly as we came in.“Brenda sweetheart, how are you?” Anna asked.“Fine dear. You look beautiful Anna, did you just get your hair done?” She asked, admiring Anna’s hairdo.“Yes. Rebecca and I are just coming from the salon. I wished you had been there.” “So do I,” Brenda said. “You should have told me.”“But I did, didn’t Chris tell you?”“Sure I did, you must have forgotten, Brenda.” Chris was smiling, but his eyes weren’t friendly.“Silly me,” she giggled nervously, “he did tell me. I will go with you next time. I do miss going out, I hardly go anywhere.”Chris cleared his throat and I noticed Brenda flinch. What is going on? I wondered.I also noticed she was wearing a long sleeved sweater, despite the heat
Phillip's POV On my way to work I could not help, but kept picturing Frank and Rebecca together. They had gone out and had a lot of fun, judging from how tired she was last night.Where had they gone? What had they been doing? I knew my cousin, he really knew how to spoil a lady he was interested in.Had he kissed her? I shook my head. It was none of my business. There were adults. What they did was their business. So why did I keep thinking of it?Was I jealous. No! Never! Frank was my cousin and best friend. He hadn’t been lucky with relationships and if he liked Rebecca, fine. I was happy he had found someone. She was okay.So what was my problem? Why was their relationship bothering me?I tried to stop thinking about it, then another thought started bothering me.The thought of how she had looked a couple of days ago when her sash had loosened, and her robe had opened. I couldn’t get that picture out of my head, or the thought of how she would have reacted if I had touched her so
Becky’s POV “Don’t mind that silly girl dear,” Anna said, as I wheeled her into the elevator. We had finished lunch, and I was taking her upstairs for her siesta. Phillip, Frank, and Celine had left.“She is so mean and rude I don’t know what Phillip sees in her.” Anna fumed.“It is okay Anna, I don’t mind. Tell me about the charity event. When is it holding?” I asked “It is on Saturday, 9 pm. Sandra Martins is this month's host.”“I have heard of her. She owns a lot of luxury clothing stores. My friend Jenny is her niece.”“Phillip is this month's gentleman of the ball, so I, as his partner, will be the lady of the ball.” She laughed.“Gentleman of the ball?”“Yes. At every ball, the young people elect the most beautiful woman or the most handsome man, to be the lady or gentleman of the ball. The person gets to make an opening speech at the next ball and gets money donated to their favorite charity. Phillip was elected at the last ball. A new one will be elected on Saturday. It is
Becky’s POV I was up till midnight, working on the speech. Writing and rewriting it, until it was perfect. Then, I closed my eyes and imagined Phillip reading it in his firm, quiet voice. And I would be there to see it, I smiled.Very early in the morning, I was already awake. Maybe because I was anxious to give him the speech. So I kept hanging around the window so that I could see when he came out. By 7:30 am he came out of the house and I ran up to him.“Good morning, Mr. Dale.” I greeted him. “Your speech is ready.”He looked surprised.“So soon?” He asked.“Yep, take a look.”He took it from me. “Are you sure you did not copy it from somewhere? I don’t want to read someone else’s speech,” he said, frowning."Ungrateful Jerk!" I thought angrily.“Copy it? I was up half the night writing this,” I said. I was hurt that he wasn’t grateful after all the effort I had put in.“Sorry. I didn’t mean it like that,” he said, quickly. “I am just surprised you did it so quickly.” He read
Becky’s POV “Me?” I asked Anna, shocked at what she had said.“Yes you. You would make a beautiful lady,” she said.“I... I... I can’t go with Rebecca, Gran.” Phillip stammered.“Why not?" Anna asked.“She is going with Frank.”“Are you?” Anna looked in my direction and asked.“I was Anna, but I canceled it to stay with you. I can’t leave you,” I told her.“Nonsense. I will be fine. I am just tired, not dying. If you have canceled it with Frank, then you are free, right?” She asked me.“Yes but-““And if she is free you can go with her, right?” She asked Phillip.“Well, yes, but-““Good. So go get dressed, Rebecca, go on. Don’t keep Phillip waiting,” Anna said.“Are you sure, Gran?" Philip asked Anna. "I think she should stay with you. I can find someone else,” he completed.“And I think both of you should stop wasting time and get going. You two are perfect for each other. Now, stop arguing and get ready.” She told us, insisting.“Okay, Miss Richards, get dressed, let’s go,” Phillip
Becky’s POV After I was introduced to the members of the organizing committee, a gray-haired man walked up to us.“Phil,” he said, smiling, then frowned when he saw me. “Who is this lovely looking lady?”“This is Rebecca Richards, my companion,” Phillip said quickly.“Nice to meet you,” he said, coolly. “Where is Anna?” “She couldn’t make it,” Phillip said.“Celine didn’t come?” The man asked.“I have no ideas,” Phillip told him briefly.“Does Rebecca walk in the company?” He asked.Phillip mumbled something and led me away.“Celine’s dad,” Phillip whispered to me.I looked back at the man who was staring at me with interest.“Let’s have something to eat,” Phillip suggested, and led me to the buffet table.“These look exotic,” I said, nibbling some of the food.“They are,” Phillip said, biting a piece of food. Some of it fell on his jacket. I took out my hankie and wiped it off, then wiped the corner of his mouth.“Thanks,” he said softly. We looked into each other's eyes. He touche
