Crown

When I left Orion and Lara, I drove straight to my house. Before I could twist the knob, the door flew open. “Dude, did you get laid last night,” was the question that came flying my way from a voice that needed to mind his own business. However, said voice, didn’t stop there but followed up with, “yeah, yeah, you did. Why else would you be out all night.” I shook my head side to side. “Report,” I said tersely and continued to walk into the house. “You no fun,” David mumbled, or in other words, annoying little brat. “Report” I repeated with a sign. “Fine. Lara still doesn’t know. Mr. Green is still investigating. The reason why he is looking into you and Orion is unknown,” David said. “He’s looking into Orion too,” I asked. “Yeah, but Orion overall has had a normal life so,” he said as he trailed off and shrugged his shoulders. “You, on the other hand, he is looking into more. Actually, he is really, really digging now. However, he won’t find anything we do

“It looks like we both don’t have an appetite,” I said. “Hmm,” Crown responded back to me. “Stop stalling,” I said perturbed. Crown breathed in and out deeply. “Marcus was in prison for killing his sister,” he said in a low voice. “I gathered that much on my own,” I replied dryly. “He was pretty young. 15 years old. His sentence was harsh. First degree murder,” Crown started to say but I cut him off. “No, second degree murder,” I said. “His report says first degree murder,” he replied. “Then how does a 15-year-old go to prison thinking he was charged with second degree murder,” I asked. Crown only stared at me. Blink. Blink, blink his eyes went. “Dude, what’s up,” I asked. “You’re telling me Marcus thinks he went to prison for second degree murder for killing his sister,” he asked me. “That’s what he said,” I told him. “What brought up you asking about Marcus,” he asked. “Marcus asked what I would do if I saw someone I thought was dead. • Losing the Lonely   The Return: Lara

I never thought I would come back to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Even after all these years, my time here still feels like a dream. This is the place where I met my first love. Maybe that's why I feel like it was like dream. Granted, I was in my early 20's and I couldn't wait to leave home. Back then my thoughts were the furthest away from my family the better. I'm not saying that my family was bad or mean to me, it's just that I grew up in a religious home. I wanted to make my own choices. I wanted to experience young love, but I never got to experience that because it was not appropriate to have a boyfriend when growing up in the Kahaku household. I was just like any other girl my age. I liked boys, but nothing ever became of it. I may have had puppy love in grade school, but we just held hands, and I NEVER told my parents. In middle school I did have someone that we were boyfriend and girlfriend, however, I never kissed him. I was the only one that did not kiss her boyfrie

  • Losing the Lonely   The Return: Orion

Orion It didn’t take long for my eyes to find where she was sitting with Eliza. I stood near the entrance at the hostess desk for bit taking her in. "She's really back" I whispered to myself. Her face is plain of makeup, or maybe she has but very light. She still looks delicate. Her figure is complimentary to her height. She’s smiling at something Eliza said. “Sir, how many in your party” I heard the hostess ask. “They are already here” I replied. The hostess nodded and didn’t continue to engage in a conversation. Is it bad if I want to get to know a friend’s ex-girlfriend? It’s been many years since she left, so it shouldn’t be a problem. Right? Everyone should have moved on. Right? Do I even care what anyone would think? My eyes slowly started to refocus, and I see Eliza waving at me. I put my hand up to wave back. She continued to look my way with a smile. My feet start moving towards their table. As I got closer, Eliza says “hey, I’m glad you made it.” I bend my

As I watched Eliza walking out I kind of felt uncomfortable. Bring on the social awkwardness. No matter how old I am, I will always be this. “Do you want desert” Orion asked. “Um, no thank you” I responded. I looked at the table and most of the food was gone. I really wanted to have desert, but I do not know what or how act with Orion sitting right in front of me. My whole body is tight. I had to tell myself, just treat him as if he was Eliza. Or any other friend that I have. Ok, I don’t have many friends. Honestly, I’d rather be here by myself than to sit across Orion. “Ok, well do you mind sitting with me while I have desert” he stated. My right eyebrow lifted. He noticed it and smiled. “We can catch up more. There wasn’t much of an opportunity to get to know each other back then, but now, why not” he said. I had to take a beat and think about it. Ok, I am 38 years old. My experiences have never given me life long close friends. Not that I’m complaining about it. I’m j

  • Losing the Lonely   Day 1 at work: Lara

I’m starting to get to know my way around the hospital. Being in a new environment is exciting, but patients are still the same. It’s a good thing that I like what I do. Even though I only draw blood from these patients, it makes me feel that I am helping in some way. A very small way. Every early morning rounds begin, and the phlebotomist splits into two teams. Rounds is when the phlebotomist draw blood from the inpatients at a designative time, since there tends to be a lot of orders the phlebotomist all leave the lab at the same time. All orders are from the attending physicians for each patient. Each team has a leader that everyone in that team reports to. The team leader then keeps everyone focused to make sure all team members are not falling behind with their assigned blood draws. We are then assigned to go to different areas of the hospital to expedite the patients that need to have their blood drawn. My team leader is Nelly. After she gave me my draws, I left her. R

  • Losing the Lonely   Unexpected: Orion

“Bossman, why you here, man” Marcus asked as he spotted me walking into the shop. “Why not? If I don’t come, you guys might get into trouble and burn this place down” I said in a teasing way. “Ha Ha, not even, you really helped all of us out, so we owe you. There is no way we would intentionally let you down” Marcus said leaning against the car he was working on. “I know. How’s it going here” I asked. “Oh, you know, can’t complain. Business is good. Customers keep coming in and we keep doing what we gotta do” Marcus said. These guys know their stuff when it comes to fixing cars. “That’s good. Well, I’ll be in the office” I said and went upstairs. I opened my own service station a few years ago. In addition to gas, I also have mechanics in house to fix cars. The guys I hire are those who are down on their luck and need a helping hand. I didn’t intentionally make my business this way it just became like this. They are a good bunch of guys, rough guys, but still good guys.

  • Losing the Lonely   Falling Asleep

Lara Upon waking I took a shower and got ready for work, I decided to text Orion. TEXT: Lara: Good Evening! After sending the text I was wondering what I wanted to eat. The thing is, I never know what I want to eat. Basically, it’s never fun or fulfilling to cook for myself. It feels lonely. So, I just settled on drinking some orange juice, that should be good enough for now. While I was drinking my phone binged with a text message. I looked at it. It read Orion. I swiped the message open. TEXT: Orion: Good Evening. How did you sleep. I replied TEXT: Lara: It was pretty restful. How was your day? He replied TEXT:Orion: No problems at work, just a lot of paper work. TEXT Lara: Sounds boring. Hehe. What are you doing now. TEXT:Orion: haha, it is boring, but worth it. I’m hanging out with a friend. TEXT:Lara: Nice. So, I was wondering, will it be ok if I brought someone to you party?Ok, so after I asked that question, I wanted to take it back. It’s not like I wa

  • Losing the Lonely   House Party

Lara “Girl what’s your address. I’ll come over and get ready at your place” Shantel said over my speaker phone. “Geez, it’s just a backyard party, there’s no need to go over the top” I said. “Hey, I never go out, so I’d like to look my best” Shantel replied. “Seriously” I asked exasperated. “Yes, it’s been a while and I’m single so I’d like to look at least decent. Come on, I live in scrubs, so why not dress up” she replied in a whinny way. I chuckled and said, “alright, alright. I’ll drop a location pin for you. Come over. We’ll get ready together.” “Great” she replied, then we hung. 30 minutes later, I was still just lounging around listening to an audiobook and playing on my phone. Basically, doing a whole bunch of nothing. That’s when I heard a knock on my door. I got up, walked over to the door and opened it. As the door was being open I her Shantel’s voice saying, “I’m here” in a singy songy way. I smiled and said, “come on in,” then I stepped back. As I was

  • Losing the Lonely   In The Morning

Lara “I’m so glad this night is over,” Dani said from behind me. Dani, Maria, Shan, Nelly, and I were in the elevator itching to leave this place. Our shift is over, and we want to get out of here. Tonight, was weird like there was a full moon. I mean, it’s like all the crazies came out tonight. All of us agreed with whatever noise we could muster. Bing! The elevator door opened, and we all walked briskly to the exit. The ladies knew I was getting picked up, so they walked me out of the main entrance first. Nosy ladies, I thought. “Oh my goodness,” I heard Nelly say. “Damn” Maria said. “It’s so not fair,” Dani said. The thing is they said it all at the same time and I was confused, while Shan was laughing. I looked at her with my right eyebrow lifted. Shan moved her head in a certain direction. My eyes followed her movement and then I saw them. The two of them were leaning against the car, legs crossed at the ankles, arms folded across their chests. A sigh slipped

  • Losing the Lonely   Trust or Ignorance

Mr. Green When I arrived at the restaurant, I walked directly to the private room where Taryn was waiting. The hostess saw me approaching and went to open the door for me. “Would you like to order anything,” she said as I entered the room. “No,” I replied. There are 3 main hostess that work the private rooms. They are like furniture. These hostesses do not move to any other part of the restaurant. They oversee everything that goes on in the private rooms, but if there is any trouble security will come and intervene, however, they are very discrete. “Very well, shall I come back later,” she asked. I looked at her up and down appreciating her beauty, which is a requirement for hostess. Man or woman, only beauty is allowed to work the private rooms. “No need. I’ll call if I need anything,” I replied and offered a smile. “Very well,” she said with a smile that was very seductive, then she turned and walked out making her hips sway side to side with every step until the doo

  • Losing the Lonely   Inquiring Minds

Mr. Green “Sir, the information I found seems normal. Nothing threatening or weird,” Taryn reported. I have a private office here in the hospital. It has never been used until now. “Hmm. What do you think of this report,” I asked Taryn. “They know how to keep clean. No incidents at all,” he answered. “Hmm,” was all I could respond with. After a few moments I said, “that’s all for now.” “Yes, sir,” Taryn said as he turned and walked out of the office. As I sat here, my mind drifted back to the beginning. Life was simple, but I was full of ambition. I wanted to leave a legacy for my family to want for nothing. Now that I’m here, grass is not always greener. The more wealth you have, the deeper you slip into the cesspit of snakes trying to take everything away from you. You are constantly on eggshells, calculating every move, every word, and every appearance. The more I gained, the more suspicious I became of everyone. My trusted circle got smaller and smaller. Taryn

  • Losing the Lonely   To Much Thinking

Orion The ring of a phone sounded in the silent room. “Hey,” I heard Crown say. Crown was chilling on the couch. I was lounging on the single sofa seat. “When,” Crown spoke into the phone. He sounded a bit alarmed. “Show me,” he said, then he put his Bluetooth earpiece over his ear and looked at his phone. “Where is she now,” he said while looking at his screen. Crown looked up at me and waved me over. A bit of concern came over me, so I went over to sit next to him. My eyes went to his cell phone screen, and I saw Lara. My eyebrows lifted on my forehead, and I glanced at Crown. Then, the feed changed to another area within the hospital. There seems to be an altercation. A man had a pole or rod and was swinging it around like a bat. It looks like the man that was swinging that thing around made contact with a few people because the other people were holding different places of their body as if in pain. Then, I saw in the corner of the screen something moving. “What

  • Losing the Lonely   What Is Going On At The Hospital?

Lara “You guys are spoiling me. I'll see you in the morning, “I said to Orion and Crown as I was getting out of the car by the emergency room. “We’ll be here waiting,” Orion said. Crown who was sitting in back also got out. He smiled at me, and I gave him a hug. I don’t know why I did that, but I did. Then he got into the passenger seat, and I closed the car door. My hand lifted to give a little wave to both of them, then I turned to walk into the hospital. They both have been treating me like we've known each other for a long time. Well, I guess we have, but we haven't spent time together. “Are you a threesome now,” I heard from behind me but I didn't turn around. The giggles that followed the voice was very mischievous, so I started to giggle too. A woman’s arm linked with mine as I was walking. “Well, that would be a nice idea. Wouldn't it,” I replied. Then, I stopped walking, turned my head to look at Shan. “I can't believe I just said that,” I mused with a shocked

  • Losing the Lonely   Housemates Pt:2

Lara Waking up was a chore. I really didn’t want to wake up but did it anyways. Life seemed pleasant at the moment. So, not wanting to get up isn’t due to laziness or no motivation. It’s because of Orion and Crown. I’m happy that they stayed until I fell asleep. Orion would have checked the house before he left, so I’m not concerned. A feeling of being safe came over me. I’ve been single for such a long time; I notice the little things. It’s been a while since I felt good upon waking up. Actually, I can’t remember the last time I felt good when waking up. I got out of bed, and then my ears perked up. There were voices in my house. It startled me because no one should be in my house. As I slowly calmed myself down, cause let’s face it, I literally went from ok to WTH in .5 seconds. The voices were registering in my mind. They were familiar. Orion and Crown. I smiled and walked out of the room to go see them. The voices got louder as I walked into the kitchen and there

  • Losing the Lonely   Out of the Ordinary

Crown As I was driving to my place, my thoughts were thinking about all the weird stuff that has been happening. Who’s the target? It could be Orion. He lives here and all the coincidences surround him. But then, they could be using him to get to me. Then, there’s Lara. She is a bit mysterious. I didn’t do any background check on her because... That thought can be left hanging cause I really don’t want to think about that. I know she has sons in the service, I continued thinking. Maybe they are the target and Lara is the bait. I hope that isn’t the case. Then, the doctor who is interested in Lara. Is he really interested in her, or just playing a game? I’ll look more into him, eventually. Hana. She also seems to be the center of all the coincidences. Why? Why did she come back into Orion’s life? Why now? My place wasn’t that far away from Lara’s. So, getting to her isn’t a problem. Nate was not very smart to let this one go. Was she like this before or did she
