Lara

Upon waking I took a shower and got ready for work, I decided to text Orion.  TEXT: Lara: Good Evening!  After sending the text I was wondering what I wanted to eat.  The thing is, I never know what I want to eat.  Basically, it’s never fun or fulfilling to cook for myself.  It feels lonely.  So, I just settled on drinking some orange juice, that should be good enough for now.  While I was drinking my phone binged with a text message.  I looked at it.  It read Orion.  I swiped the message open. TEXT: Orion: Good Evening.  How did you sleep.  I replied TEXT: Lara: It was pretty restful.  How was your day? He replied TEXT:Orion:  No problems at work, just a lot of paper work.  TEXT Lara: Sounds boring.  Hehe.  What are you doing now.  TEXT:Orion: haha, it is boring, but worth it.  I’m hanging out with a friend.  TEXT:Lara: Nice.  So, I was wondering, will it be ok if I brought someone to you party?

Ok, so after I asked that question, I wanted to take it back. It’s not like I was going to bring a date or something.  I just wanted to make sure that I would at least have someone there to talk to.  Would that be too much? Well, this is exactly how I get myself into trouble.  At least I had someone to talk to.  Orion didn’t reply right away, so I just started getting ready for work not really worrying over if I said something wrong or not.  When I was just about to start my shift, I received a message from Orion.  Text Orion: Yes, of course, was the reply I read.  After reading the text I felt ok and continued to load my lab cart with various test tubes, blood culture bottles, tourniquets, gauze, tape, various needles, and everything necessary for my shift.

This shift came and went quickly without any incidents. Thank goodness, I don’t need to be making any mistakes.  I asked Shantel if she wanted to come with me to Orion’s party since she is also off tonight.  “Would you like to ride with me” I asked Shantel.  “Sure, I’ll drop a location pin in the text” Shantel said.  “Awesome, I’ll pick you up around 7pm.  I’ll text you before I come” I replied.  “What should I wear” she asked.  “Well, it’s a backyard house party so, comfy casual I guess” I answered. “Alright, see you tonight” she added.  Then we both walked towards our own cars.

At home, I took a shower and made something to eat.  It wasn’t anything special or grand, just chicken bouillon soup and toast.  When it was made, I took my soup and my toast to sit on my couch in the parlor.  While eating, I was scrolling through the apps on my phone and decided to read a romance novel.  I love reading how the characters fall in love.  And since I don’t have a romantic life right now, living vicariously through the characters is the closest I can get to falling in love.  It’s pathetic really, but since I am 38 years old it’s just a way of life.  After I finished eating my toast and drinking my soup, I washed my dishes and went into my bedroom to lay down on my bed and continue reading.  But before I could continue, I realized that I didn’t get a message from Orion.  Hmm, I wonder if I should send him a message.  After some thought, I messaged him.  TEXT: Lara: Morning (smiley emoji).  After sending him a message I continued to read my book.  It was 5 minutes later when he messaged me back with TEXT:Orion: Good Morning.  Are you heading to bed? I replied straight away with TEXT: Lara: Sort of.  He replied back with three question marks.  I giggled a bit to myself and sent him another message TEXT: Lara: I am laying in bed reading a book.  TEXT:Orion: Ah, will you be up for a few.  I can come over for a bit. So of course, reading that made my mind totally overthink, however I replied with, TEXT: Lara: Are you at work?  TEXT: Orion: I took the day off, I’m the boss (smiley emoji).  TEXT:Lara: Oh, Sure but please excuse me if I fall asleep while you’re here. TEXT:Orion: haha, I understand.  TEXT:Lara: Ok, will you text me when you arrive.  TEXT:Orion: I will see you soon.  When I received his last text, I didn’t bother to reply back and just continued reading while waiting for him.  The book I was reading was about vampires, werewolves, and Greek gods.  This author really created a world that is fantastic to imagine.  It makes the reader believe that these characters are real.  So I got sucked in.

Orion

When I parked my car, I sent a text message to Lara saying that I was at the door, then I walked towards her front door. I am not sure why I asked to come over since I would see her tonight. She is on my mind a lot lately and I’d like to get to know her. I’m not talking about intimately, however, that will come later.  I want to know what makes her, Lara.  My chance to get to know her is now.  She may like me.  She may not like me. I’d like to at least try my best to worm my way into her heart.  The door opens and my heart flutters a bit.  Geez, the fact that I was getting excited with anticipation to seeing her right now blows my brain.  I never get this reaction for any woman, but for some reason, she still has some effect on me.  She gave me a little smile.  “Hi” she says.  I smile back.  It wasn’t a full-blown smile but a decent smile, I mean I did keep some of my dignity as a man.  “Hi” I reply back to her.  Lara gestures me into the house.  I entered the threshold of the door and step to the side for her to close the door.  She leans in and kiss me on my cheek.  I know it is an innocent kiss so I’m not overthinking her actions.  And plus, it’s a Hawaiian thing, they do that with people they know.  She leads me towards the parlor, and we sit on her couch. She sits down with her back against the side of the couch, her head is resting on the back cushion, while her legs are tucked up to her chest. I just turned my body a bit, but my feet are still on the ground.  I’m not sure if this situation is awkward for her, but to me there is nowhere else I would rather be.  “So, what are you going to do on your day off” she asks me.  “After I leave here, I’ll go buy some stuff for tonight” I answer her. “Do you need me to bring anything or maybe I can give you some money to help” she asks me.  My mind goes blank.  What is wrong with this woman? I invited her to come and enjoy a party with me but she wants to bring stuff or help me pay for it.  I shake my head side to side.  “No, you just have to bring yourself.  Don’t worry about anything else” I reply.  I noticed her phone screen was illuminated.  “How is your book going” I asked.  A smile slowly spreads across her face. “It’s good.  The storyline draws me in and makes me live vicariously through the characters.  The fighting scenes are pretty awesome. The dialog is also entertaining.  I had to stop reading for now because my eyes are getting tired” she says in a lazy way.  “Do you want me to leave so you can rest” I asked.  I can tell she is thinking how to answer.  I want to stay, but I don’t want to scare her.  For now, I have to go slow.  Her eyes focus on me in a lazy way, and she says “No, not yet.  I like the companionship, even if it is for a little while” she responded.  At that response my heart just couldn’t stop beating so hard and my face couldn’t suppress the corners of my mouth from turning upwards.  I probably look like an idiot. She adjusts her body to slouch on the couch and she stretches her legs out towards me and says “so, what do you plan on buy for tonight.” My eyes noticed her pretty little feet and it looked like she just got a pedicure.  Dang, do I have a foot fetish?  Her feet was close to me but not quite touching me and I’m not disgusted but staring at it.  “Finger foods, soda, beer, paper plates, utensils.  You know the normal.  Why do you want to request anything” I said.  Her eyes are closed a bit, I really should leave cause she looks tired but I still can’t bring myself to leave just yet.  “Um, Boston Market corn bread.  It’s been a while since I had that” she offered hesitantly.  However, she immediately said “never mind, I guess I can just get it myself.”  Then she inched her body even lower on the couch.  She bend her knees slightly, but if she were to stretch them out, her pretty little feet would be in my lap.  “I’ll see if I can go get come some for you” I said to her then asked, “You want to me to go cause you look a like you’re going to fall asleep?”  I looked at her and she said lazily, “Um, maybe not yet.  Do you want to watch something?  I mean, I normally just stream from my phone.”  I smiled a bit because that’s the second time I asked if she wanted me to leave and she refused my offer.  I’m feeling pretty great with myself.  Geez, do I really need to subject myself to trickery and subtly for reassurance.  When has my feelings become so sensitive?  When did I become like this?  “I’m ok. We can just sit here talking or not talking.  Do you have any other requests for tonight” I said.  “No, I’m sure I’ll be ok with whatever is there” she responded her voice became more lazy sounding.  I looked at Lara.  Her eyes were still closed, and she seemed to be very relaxed.  Does she even have a sense of awareness?  “Lara” I whisper her name.  No response.  I shake my head and I smile a bit.  Then, I think about it. How could she just fall asleep with me here?  On one hand, it pleased me that she is comfortable enough to let down her guard.  On the hand, I’m totally pisses me off because how often does she do this.  Do men come over all the time that she thinks nothing of it?  Does it happen so much that she is even ok with it?  I shake my head trying to dispel the thoughts I’ve been having.  “Lara” I whisper again.  Lara still doesn’t hear me; she doesn’t even stir.  Not even a little.  Before thinking, my body moves.  I stood up, looked at the layout of the house.  I see a hall just off the parlor.  I picked up Lara in my arms, holding her close to my chest and searched for her bedroom.  I walked down the hall and saw a soft light coming from the back left doorway.  I walked towards that light hoping that it was the bedroom.  I turned into the doorway, and I was correct.  It was her bedroom.  Her bed was already turned down.  It doesn’t surprise me since I messaged her earlier and she was in bed already.  I placed her on her bed softly, not wanting to disrupt her sleep and I covered her with the blanket.  Standing there for a few seconds I look at Lara.  Thoughts start entering my mind.  The main one, if Nathaniel knows she is back, what will he do?  When she asked not to mention to him that she was here, I was taken aback.  Why after all these years would it matter?  My eyes look at her face.  In looks, she is average looking.  Nothing really outstanding.  My eyes traveled down the outline of her body under the blanket. Her body isn’t as tiny as it was back then.  She was too skinny; I doubt there was any skin to hold on to.  Now, she is still thin, but she has something to grab.  With that thought, a smile appears at the corners of my mouth.  As perverted as my mind can get when it comes to Lara I decide not to go there.  I decided to turn and walk out of the bedroom.  As I was walking past the couch, I heard a notification ding.  I checked my phone, but it wasn’t me.  I heard another one coming from the couch.  I looked over and saw Lara’s phone.  The messages are from a Dr. Cameron.  Who is Dr. Cameron?  I read the message which asked what she was doing and then followed up with did you already fall asleep.  Hmm.  After a brief pause, I picked up her phone and took it into her room.  I placed it on the bedside table and plugged it in to charge.  Then walked out of the house, making sure the door was locked.  As I was turning on my car, I received another message from that number again. What am I going to do?

  • Losing the Lonely   House Party

Lara “Girl what’s your address. I’ll come over and get ready at your place” Shantel said over my speaker phone. “Geez, it’s just a backyard party, there’s no need to go over the top” I said. “Hey, I never go out, so I’d like to look my best” Shantel replied. “Seriously” I asked exasperated. “Yes, it’s been a while and I’m single so I’d like to look at least decent. Come on, I live in scrubs, so why not dress up” she replied in a whinny way. I chuckled and said, “alright, alright. I’ll drop a location pin for you. Come over. We’ll get ready together.” “Great” she replied, then we hung. 30 minutes later, I was still just lounging around listening to an audiobook and playing on my phone. Basically, doing a whole bunch of nothing. That’s when I heard a knock on my door. I got up, walked over to the door and opened it. As the door was being open I her Shantel’s voice saying, “I’m here” in a singy songy way. I smiled and said, “come on in,” then I stepped back. As I was

  • Losing the Lonely   Getting Aquianted

Lara I didn’t expect to see Dr. Chase Cameron here tonight. I was already running late to get here because of some unexpected guess. It’s 10:15pm, I literally just walking into through the door when I saw Dr Cameron. He saw me and came straight up to me to talk. I didn’t want to be rude since he and I do work at the same hospital, so I chose to be polite. Speaking with him was fun and easy. At the moment he didn’t seem to show the arrogance that comes along with being a Medical Doctor. Well, that’s just my opinion of course because obviously, not all doctors are arrogant. My eyes glanced at the wall clock, and it seemed that I was talking to him for a good 30 minutes cause now it’s 10:45pm. I didn’t want to be rude to Dr. Cameron, but I also felt like I was being rude to Orion because I haven’t said hello yet. I started feeling a little uneasy, when I glanced slightly over Dr. Cameron’s shoulder, I saw Orion looking straight at me. He was out in the yard, and I was in t

  • Losing the Lonely   The Little Tiff

Orion Lara slammed into my chest. The plate with the cornbread she was holding smashed between us and crumbled to the ground. “Lara are you ok” I asked her. Looking her over from the top of her head to the tip of her feet. She looked a little startled. I looked behind her. “Johanna, why did you do that” I spoke in a cold tone, my eyes piercing through her with anger. “What are you doing? Do you remember you asked me to be here” Johanna said sweetly, but she was fuming on the inside. Crown, not missing a beat started laughing. “I do believe you invited yourself,” Crown said as he walked over to my side. “Lara are you ok” he directed his question to Lara. “I’m fine. My cornbread died though,” she said pitifully. She looked totally dejected. I chuckled on the inside. What is it with that cornbread, I thought. I turned my attention back to Johanna. “You need to leave. Now,” I told her. “I’m not leaving. She should leave,” Johanna said as she pointed her finger towards La

Lara Dropping Shantel off and getting back to Orion’s place didn’t take long. When we walked through the front door, Crown had already cleaned up most of everything. I looked around inside and outside to see if I could help, but it seems like I wasn't needed. “Wow, Crown, good job. It seems like I didn’t need to come back to help clean,” I said while turning in a circle on the balls of my feet, stopping as I faced him. “There wasn’t much too clean. But since you’re back, we can just chill and catch up” he said. “It’s late don’t you need work in a few hours,” I asked. It’s around 2 in the morning, so shouldn’t that mean both of them should be sleeping now. “I took off just in case I got a hangover,” he said with a chuckle. “Come on, sit,” Orion said then sat on the couch. I looked at Orion, walked over and sat next to him, while Crown sat on the loveseat. “So, do you guys do this often,” I asked them. “Do what,” Orion replied. “Have people over like this,” I replied. Orion and Crown lo

  • Losing the Lonely   Dinner at Lara's

Over the past few weeks, things at work were ok. Nothing good. Nothing bad. Working is fun but definitely not highlighted in my life. It’s just a skill that I can do and not a big deal. Orion and I have been getting to know each other too. We would go out on dates, talk on the phone, text each other, or even relax at his place or mine. In my twenties, I would have done the deed with him already. Now, turning 40 in 2 years, I abstain. Not that I don’t want to be with Orion, it’s just that the older I get sex isn’t that great. I’ve fallen asleep one time, another time I got bored because it’s the same thing over and over again, and then there was one I called out a name that was a character of a book I was reading at that time. I had to laugh at myself for that one, definitely no forgetting that experience. That’s quite funny now that I look back. Majority of the time, I had to get myself off after he got off. I swear some guys have no idea. With that thought I had to laugh

  • Losing the Lonely   Almost A Lonely Night

Waking up with Lara in my arms was an amazing feeling. She’s curled close to my right side with her right knee resting on my lower abdomen. Not wanting to disturb her, I take myself back to last night. Last night was very unexpected. I didn’t expect to meet her two sons and their friends. I’m not against meeting new people, nor do I get uncomfortable like Lara. Even though I haven’t been with Lara long, I was hoping she and I would progress in the direction of meeting family. I wonder what part Sean has in her life because it looked like there is something more to their friendship. Whatever it may be, I will be in Lara’s life for as long as she allows me to be in it. A thought is teetering on the edges of my mind, but I can’t seem to grasp it. Something about being lonely or alone. Oh, yes, the first night, Lara said she was lonely, or something along that idea. I can understand now that I saw why she may feel lonely. She only gets to see her sons when they have time, but

  • Losing the Lonely   Over Night With Dr Cameron

My body didn’t hurt much when I went into work that night, so I was relieved. The good part is that I worked in the ER for tonight. It wasn’t busy, which is suprising since it's a friday night, so I just sat there waiting for rounds to start. “Hey Lara” I heard someone say. I looked up from the game I was playing on my phone cause let’s face it, it’s boring now, and I need something to keep me busy, or I will fall asleep. I see Dr. Cameron walking up to me with a big smile on his face. “Hey Doc” I greeted him. “How you doing? It’s been a while” he asks. “It has been a while. Everything is ok. Nothing to complain about. What about you” I respond. “My shift is ending soon. Let’s go eat after” he says to me. “Sure. Who else is coming” I respond because it’s best if there is more than just us. “Just us” he says. My right eyebrow goes up on my forehead. Are you for real, I thought. “Huh” I say. “Just us. That’s ok, right” he asks. Is it ok, I thought. I don’t want to give him the wron

  • Losing the Lonely   Lunch with Johanna

Orion The guys wanted to get in some overtime since we have been slammed during the week. I agreed since the volume is more than normal. When the guys asked if they could do this, I said why not, but not a full day. It's Saturday and we'll close at 2pm. I checked my phone before I started to get ready. There was a bunch of messages asking to go clubbing. I rolled my eyes and thought "it's been a long time since I've been clubbing, there's no need for that now." I deleted those messages because I didn’t care much for the sender. I’m 35 with a career, granted I’m not the riches guy in the world, but I feel like I’m pass the point in my life when staying at home isn’t such a bad idea. As the owner of an auto repair shop, I’d rather just go home to wind down after a long day at work. Or maybe have a beer or two with Crown at a bar or at home. When I got to the bottom of the new messages, I notice that Lara texted me. TEXT Lara: Good morning, I hope you had a good night’s sl

  • Losing the Lonely   But I thought...

“It looks like we both don’t have an appetite,” I said. “Hmm,” Crown responded back to me. “Stop stalling,” I said perturbed. Crown breathed in and out deeply. “Marcus was in prison for killing his sister,” he said in a low voice. “I gathered that much on my own,” I replied dryly. “He was pretty young. 15 years old. His sentence was harsh. First degree murder,” Crown started to say but I cut him off. “No, second degree murder,” I said. “His report says first degree murder,” he replied. “Then how does a 15-year-old go to prison thinking he was charged with second degree murder,” I asked. Crown only stared at me. Blink. Blink, blink his eyes went. “Dude, what’s up,” I asked. “You’re telling me Marcus thinks he went to prison for second degree murder for killing his sister,” he asked me. “That’s what he said,” I told him. “What brought up you asking about Marcus,” he asked. “Marcus asked what I would do if I saw someone I thought was dead. Crown When I left Orion and Lara, I drove straight to my house. Before I could twist the knob, the door flew open. “Dude, did you get laid last night,” was the question that came flying my way from a voice that needed to mind his own business. However, said voice, didn’t stop there but followed up with, “yeah, yeah, you did. Why else would you be out all night.” I shook my head side to side. “Report,” I said tersely and continued to walk into the house. “You no fun,” David mumbled, or in other words, annoying little brat. “Report” I repeated with a sign. “Fine. Lara still doesn’t know. Mr. Green is still investigating. The reason why he is looking into you and Orion is unknown,” David said. “He’s looking into Orion too,” I asked. “Yeah, but Orion overall has had a normal life so,” he said as he trailed off and shrugged his shoulders. “You, on the other hand, he is looking into more. Actually, he is really, really digging now. However, he won’t find anything we do

  • Losing the Lonely   In The Morning

Lara “I’m so glad this night is over,” Dani said from behind me. Dani, Maria, Shan, Nelly, and I were in the elevator itching to leave this place. Our shift is over, and we want to get out of here. Tonight, was weird like there was a full moon. I mean, it’s like all the crazies came out tonight. All of us agreed with whatever noise we could muster. Bing! The elevator door opened, and we all walked briskly to the exit. The ladies knew I was getting picked up, so they walked me out of the main entrance first. Nosy ladies, I thought. “Oh my goodness,” I heard Nelly say. “Damn” Maria said. “It’s so not fair,” Dani said. The thing is they said it all at the same time and I was confused, while Shan was laughing. I looked at her with my right eyebrow lifted. Shan moved her head in a certain direction. My eyes followed her movement and then I saw them. The two of them were leaning against the car, legs crossed at the ankles, arms folded across their chests. A sigh slipped

Mr. Green When I arrived at the restaurant, I walked directly to the private room where Taryn was waiting. The hostess saw me approaching and went to open the door for me. “Would you like to order anything,” she said as I entered the room. “No,” I replied. There are 3 main hostess that work the private rooms. They are like furniture. These hostesses do not move to any other part of the restaurant. They oversee everything that goes on in the private rooms, but if there is any trouble security will come and intervene, however, they are very discrete. “Very well, shall I come back later,” she asked. I looked at her up and down appreciating her beauty, which is a requirement for hostess. Man or woman, only beauty is allowed to work the private rooms. “No need. I’ll call if I need anything,” I replied and offered a smile. “Very well,” she said with a smile that was very seductive, then she turned and walked out making her hips sway side to side with every step until the doo

Mr. Green “Sir, the information I found seems normal. Nothing threatening or weird,” Taryn reported. I have a private office here in the hospital. It has never been used until now. “Hmm. After a few moments I said, “that’s all for now.” “Yes, sir,” Taryn said as he turned and walked out of the office. As I sat here, my mind drifted back to the beginning. Life was simple, but I was full of ambition. I wanted to leave a legacy for my family to want for nothing. Now that I’m here, grass is not always greener. The more wealth you have, the deeper you slip into the cesspit of snakes trying to take everything away from you. You are constantly on eggshells, calculating every move, every word, and every appearance. The more I gained, the more suspicious I became of everyone. My trusted circle got smaller and smaller. Orion The ring of a phone sounded in the silent room. “Hey,” I heard Crown say. Crown was chilling on the couch. I was lounging on the single sofa seat. “When,” Crown spoke into the phone. He sounded a bit alarmed. “Show me,” he said, then he put his Bluetooth earpiece over his ear and looked at his phone. “Where is she now,” he said while looking at his screen. Crown looked up at me and waved me over. A bit of concern came over me, so I went over to sit next to him. My eyes went to his cell phone screen, and I saw Lara. My eyebrows lifted on my forehead, and I glanced at Crown. Then, the feed changed to another area within the hospital. There seems to be an altercation. A man had a pole or rod and was swinging it around like a bat. It looks like the man that was swinging that thing around made contact with a few people because the other people were holding different places of their body as if in pain. Then, I saw in the corner of the screen something moving. “What

  • Losing the Lonely   Housemates Pt:2

Lara Waking up was a chore. I really didn’t want to wake up but did it anyways. Life seemed pleasant at the moment. So, not wanting to get up isn’t due to laziness or no motivation. It’s because of Orion and Crown. I’m happy that they stayed until I fell asleep. Orion would have checked the house before he left, so I’m not concerned. A feeling of being safe came over me. I’ve been single for such a long time; I notice the little things. It’s been a while since I felt good upon waking up. Actually, I can’t remember the last time I felt good when waking up. I got out of bed, and then my ears perked up. There were voices in my house. It startled me because no one should be in my house. As I slowly calmed myself down, cause let’s face it, I literally went from ok to WTH in .5 seconds. The voices were registering in my mind. They were familiar. Orion and Crown. I smiled and walked out of the room to go see them. The voices got louder as I walked into the kitchen and there
