Chapter 4

After leaving the hotel, Logan sent Yancy away, getting into the car that Yancy had brought with Luna and speeding away.

Along the way, Luna had trouble calming down as what had happened just now replayed in her mind endlessly.

"Logan, how…"

She had so many questions and was very worried.

There was not even a peep from him over the last four years, and in her mind, he was already dead.

After all, murdering a higher-up in the military meant death for anyone.

And yet, he still showed up now, and with an accomplice who carried a firearm…

"I'm no longer a fugitive, and the cops aren't hunting me." Logan turned toward her with a tender smile. "And don't worry, you won't have to lead a life on the run!"

"Really?" Luna sounded skeptical. "Then why does your friend have a gun?"

Logan chuckled. "It's perfectly legal, since he's Overlord's subordinate from the northern frontier."

"He's Overlord's subordinate?" Luna flinched.

A military man? So that was why he had a gun!

But if he served under Overlord, then what was he doing with Logan?

Luna had naturally heard of Overlord—the city was buzzing when the rumor that he was coming started spreading.

In fact, everyone rich and important was sending him gifts, while the southern garrisons all promptly cleaned house, in fear that Overlord would come for a surprise visit and nitpick.

One could even say that the entire state was now preparing for his arrival.

Still, Luna did not connect Logan to Overlord, as Overlord was the supreme commander of the frontier forces and not to be trifled with.

"What have you been doing over the last four years?" she asked. "How did you come to meet people from the frontier?"

"Well, the cops chased me all the way to the northern frontier," Logan replied. "That was when I joined the military. I have since been promoted to supreme commander, with the call sign Overlord!"

Luna was left gaping at Logan in disbelief, silent right then.

Overlord?

Logan?!

Still, her shock lasted mere seconds as a thought occurred to her. "Are you worried that I'll tell on you for violating the firearms law? Is that why you're lying?"

Logan did a double take but soon chuckled. "I'm not lying—I really am."

"Zip it!" She shot him a glare. "Do I look like a child to you?"

Having calmed down, she remembered that Overlord commanded over a hundred thousand strong. But for a civilian who had recently joined the military four years ago, they could at best be promoted to a lieutenant.

If they actually want to accomplish anything, they would have to bleed, with the risk of dying at any moment.

In that respect, did Logan look like he had accomplished such a feat?

And with so many other personnel competing for promotions in the military, it would definitely take the average person over three decades just to become the colonel of a garrison.

As for supreme commander? That would take a lifetime!

So Logan must be lying!

On the other hand, Logan smiled in exasperation, seeing that Luna was annoyed.

"Look, I—"

"Shut it!" Luna snapped at him, cutting him short. "You know I hate liars!"

"Alright, my bad. I'll stop."

Logan was certainly exasperated, being doubted when he was just telling the truth.

Logan and Luna spent the afternoon strolling places they used to go to four years ago and only returned home in the evening.

It was at the center of Jerviston, a three-floor duplex that was at once grand.

That was worth around four million—and a wedding gift that Logan had given the Watsons!

Nonetheless, they entered to find Arnold and Sue glowering as they sat on the couch.

"You have the cheek to come back?!"

Arnold bellowed as he sprang from the couch, shaking with rage, "Do you even understand what you've done?! The Jacksons are cutting ties and taking back the three million they invested in our businesses! You're such a jinx—you should never have shown up!"

Logan simply chuckled. "That's good, isn't it? If you need an investment, just come to me. I can help."

"You, help?" Sue rolled her eyes. "Even your own family gave up on you! What would you invest in?!"

Logan simply smiled. "I have my ways."

"Stop it!" Luna tugged firmly on his arm, whispering under her breath, "Let's just go back to our room."

As they started to leave, Arnold suddenly bellowed, "Don't bother, Luna! Your grandpa has just called, telling us to leave right now for Zac's birthday party! And you're coming too, Logan!"

The call had come in just this afternoon, and Arnold was scolded terribly over the phone by his father, Thomas Watson.

Telling them to visit was clearly to punish them too.

After all, three million was a big deal for the Watsons—without that money, they would not have capital to make purchases, which would hurt Arnold's business!

In fact, Arnold was just bringing Logan along so that his old man would punish the culprit, perhaps saving his own skin while he did.

Still, he was scowling even as Logan followed them to the party.

They might call it a party, but Arnold knew that everyone would be lynching him for losing three million!

The Watson family business was modest in the first place, and Arnold's part had especially fallen to bad times in the last few years.

He could not even hold his head high during family gatherings such as this.

While he thought that would change with the three-million-dollar agreement with the Jacksons, Logan had to show up and ruin everything!

Now, even as they showed up at the party, everyone was casting him strange looks.

Still, someone recognized Logan soon enough. "He really is back. Isn't he a wanted fugitive? Why hasn't he been arrested?"

"Who knows? We're talking about a murder, and a military commander at that. It's the gallows for sure if they get him!"

"Maybe he's still on the run?"

Soon, everyone was flocking around them, pointing and gesturing at Logan.

The people furthest inside the hall soon took notice of Arnold's family too. All of them were looking at them in disdain, and Thomas' expression was especially cold!

He had two sons, Stan and Arnold, but he clearly did not like his second son, and most of that had to do with Logan.

In the past, Watson Jewels, their family jewelry business, had reached new heights thanks to Goldsprings, the company that Logan had founded.

However, it all came crashing down once Logan was charged.

If it was not for Stan doing his damndest to keep everything afloat, Watson Jewels would have been gone by now.

On top of that, Thomas' eldest grandson, Zac, even had to strategically marry the heiress of the Sobel family, which allowed Watson Jewels to finally thrive with the Sobels' help!

Thomas' eyes narrowed further as Arnold's family approached, and he snapped icily, "There's no place for you on this table! The one over there is for your family. Scoot."

Arnold's expression stiffened as he glanced toward the much smaller table that was meant for distant relatives.

At the same time, Thomas turned, pointing at Logan and snapping, "And you! Get out of here, you piece of shit!"
