Ava saw stars of different colours and shades, the sound of the hot slap still echoing in her ear seconds later. Her mouth hung open in surprise as she stared at Sarah.
Sarah walked over to the chair beside the bed and sat down. She threw Colton’s shirt to him. ‘How dare you seduce our alpha? Huh?’ Ava could only shake her head vigorously in denial. But I did not seduce him, he was the one who assaulted me. She thought inside her but did not dare to say anything because of the vicious look in Sarah’s face. ‘Tell me what happened. On your knees!’ Ava quickly fell to her knees and explained the events of that morning to Sarah. She knew Sarah was a good friend of the Alpha and should be able to reason with him. Sarah had also been nice to Ava in the past, and should believe her. After Ava’s narration, Sarah turned to Colton. ‘You were mated to this thing?’ She pointed at the cowering Ava. ‘And I rejected her immediately. It must be the joke of the day for the Moon Goddess.’ Colton said as he finished buttoning his shirt. ‘Why did you reject her?’ Colton moved to Sarah and drew her up gently. ‘Because I have my Luna right here in you. Who cares for the Moon Goddess choice when I have a goddess by my side?’ He drew her closer and kissed her. Sarah hugged him and kissed him back. ‘My father the Lycan king must not hear any bad rumour about you, if you are to succeed him as the future king. All dirts must be thrashed.’ She said this and looked at Ava. ‘What if she tells the story about you being her mate to others? The council must not hear such things.’ She played with a lock of her as if in deep thought. ‘Let’s get rid of her.’ Colton shrugged his shoulder, took the bottle of wine by his bedside and strolled out of the room. ‘I’ll leave it to you’. Ava started begging Sarah as Colton closed the door. ‘Please Princess. I’m sorry. I promise I will not tell anybody. I will take this to my grave.’ Sarah snarled at her. ‘That you will surely do.’ Shocked at her changed voice, Ava looked up to see that Sarah’s eyes had changed and her nails elongated than before. ‘I was waiting to be mated to Colton and you stole my shine?’ Sarah lunged at her and pinned her to the ground. Before Ava could come to herself, Sarah had broken her leg with her wolf strength. She cried out in pain, as she tried to understand all the calamities befalling her. Why the sudden cruelty? They just did not make any sense. Sarah returned to her human pretty self, touched up her makeup and with a last glance at Ava, said, ‘prepare to say your last prayers.’ She went out of the room. Ava tried to stand up but could not because of her broken leg. She sat down and shook in fear and pain. Things were indeed getting worse for her. Who could help her now? She heard the gong sounding. It seemed the pack was being summoned for a meeting. Ava wished someone could come and carry her to her room and maybe summon the pack doctor to attend to her. She had been visiting the herbal clinic on her days off, she just loved the smell of herbs. If she was not working as a maid in the alpha’s mansion, she would have willingly worked as a maid for the pack doctor. If only she could get her hands on some morphine…. The door suddenly opened and two pack enforcers barged into the room. ‘There you are.’ ‘Ava Winstons, you are under arrest, for seducing our Alpha.’ ‘What..?’ Ava was cut off and dragged out. She saw that other pack members had gathered in front of the alpha’s house and Sarah was standing at the front, accusing her. Ava looked at the faces of her fellow maids, who were always friendly to her before, they all frowned at her, accusing her of what she did not do. She looked for the elderly doctor, but he was not at the meeting. No one was on her side. ‘This wolfless thing dared to seduce her alpha. She got wounded in the process as you can see.’ They all nodded in approval and Ava heard various version of ‘serves her right’, ‘good for her’. How could they all be against her? It was as if the whole pack changed in one single day. She did not hear what Sarah was saying with her screeching voice until she heard others’ voices. ‘Yes, tie her to the stakes and let her burn!’ Ava knew that the end had come for her. The whole world was against her. They wanted to burn her alive, for a crime she did not commit. No wonder Sarah told her to say her last prayers. She prepared to start praying. Tears rolled down her cheeks as her heart cried ‘Help’ deep within her. They were all waiting for Colton’s approval before carrying out Sarah’s verdict. Colton hesitated, probably he felt a little guilty? He was about to nod his head in approval to the persistent Sarah when a car drove into the yard. Ava saw Colton stood up from his seat and went out to welcome the guest. ‘That’s Alpha Sebastian, the Alpha of Prime Pack’. One of the pack members told another. ‘Really? I hear he’s the richest and most powerful alpha around.’ The other member responded. ‘Exactly. And he doesn’t have a mate yet…’ Pieces of dialogues floated to Ava where she was seated on the ground. Other pack members moved away from her as the guest alpha entered Colton’s house. He glanced at Ava and asked what her offence was. Sarah was the one who answered. ‘Alpha, please don’t bother yourself about the useless girl. She has committed an unpardonable offense, worthy of death.’ Sebastian smiled at Sarah and shook his head. ‘A Luna should protect and defend her pack members. Princess, you should know this, though you are yet to become one.’ Ava saw Sebastian winked at Sarah and wondered if he had also fallen for her tricks. ‘Why stain your pretty hands with blood? Just banish her.’ Sarah nodded her head to the enforcers as she followed the alphas into the house.‘Thank your lucky stars today. Get away from our pack and never come back. If you try it, you will die!’ The enforcers told Ava as they dragged her outside the border of their pack. It was a cold morning, the sky was thick with dark clouds, as if threatening rain could fall at any time. This replicated Ava’s exact mood, her hands and feet were chilled with cold, dark clouds of fear and confusion hung around her and her threatening tears fell without any restriction. Why should she restrict them? Who should she hide them from? She was already alone in the world, she had no one. It was true what the strange note said: no one could help her now. Ava hobbled to a nearby tree, to sit on the roots. She rested her feet and massaged her swollen ankle. The words of the note did not leave her. Prepare for the worst. In just four hours, her life had indeed changed for the worse. No cake to celebrate her birthday but rejection, slap, beatings and… banishment. She wiped her tears and wondered a
‘Where did they put that she wolf?’ Sebastian Denizen asked his Beta, Scott, after his meeting with Alpha Colton.‘They already sent her beyond the boundary of the pack’.‘How is Colton handling the affairs of his pack? Things are not done properly at all. Times are hard and security should be taken serious.’ He shrugged and waved at Scott. ‘Let’s go, maybe we can find her and take her in. She shouldn’t have gone far in this rain’.‘My Alpha, I advise that we set out after the rain, the roads are tricky.’ Sebastian nodded and they waited in the car till the rain subsided.‘Did you get any information as touching the rogues?’ Sebastian asked Scott as they drove out of Colton’s yard.‘Yes, my Alpha. They were sighted towards the north side of the gingham forest, beyond Blood Moon Pack’s territory. Their enforcers pursued the rogues but couldn’t catch any of them.’‘Hmmn. They are still on the move. Marcus is still searching for wolfless virgins. When will he stop this nonsense? I must p
When will all these calamities end? Ava nearly fainted at the sound of the gunshot. She screamed so hard she did not know how to stop. The bounty hunter ran to hide at the sound of the gunshot. Ava saw the opportunity to escape and struggled up from her position. She saw that it was a wolf that fell before the gun was shot. Not caring about who did what, she was focused on finding a way of escape. If only she could disappear from this place. In all her twenty-one years of life, she had never wished for her wolf as much as she did at this moment. If only she had her wolf, she would have escaped from all these dangers. As she got up from her seat, a pair of strong hands forced her down. Some men rushed in and she saw the wolf mugging the bounty hunter. He struggled initially but was soon overpowered. Well, he got what he deserved. ‘Please help me. I want to leave this place.’ The wolf that killed the man shifted back to his human form and growled at the other men wolves. ‘Take
Serene music permeated the atmosphere, joyful sounds echoed in response from within Ava. Flowery scents competed with one another as Ava picked out smells of roses and lilac, among others. She involuntarily sniffed deeply to assimilate and possibly store the sweet savor for later use. Her ears tingled as she turned her head here and there in search of the melodious strain. The sky above her head was blue without a trace of clouds, bright light filled everywhere. Ava threw a glance up to check where the sun rose from in this land of utopia, but no harsh sun was above, only brightness. Am I dead? She wondered then sighed in relief. That would be okay, it would be good riddance to the bad rubbish that her life had turned out to be. Maybe she would even meet her parents. Will I be able to recognize them? It’s been so long. At least they would recognize her, she consoled herself.Ava’s eyes travelled beyond the horizon as she searched for a possible companion in this beautiful space. She
At the rogues laboratory, the doctor gave Ava a dose of anesthetics and she slipped into peaceful sleep, her body relaxing from the shock it had before she fainted. Assisted by two wolves, part of the rogues, they set Ava in place by strapping her to the bed with ropes. Her hands and legs were swiftly tied as she laid on her back, unconscious. The doctor inserted canola into her vein and connected it to an empty bag, where her blood slowly drained into. A pair of rogues stayed on either side of the bed, guarding Ava as she gave them the precious liquid their leader needed, the very life in her.‘This pant is almost full.’ The doctor said as he monitored the collection process.‘Her blood is quite clean.’ One of the rogues observed.‘It’s making me hungry.’ Another rogue snarled as he coveted the blood.‘You’d better control yourself!’ His colleague growled at her.‘This is pure blood, meant for the sacrifice. After all she is a virgin, she has not been contaminated by many donors.’ Th
‘You were born for a purpose Ava. You have a great destiny. Be strong and courageous.’ Ava nodded in agreement.‘Next is your mission.’Ava looked at Nadia, her wolf and fell in love with her at once. Nadia, Ava's loyal wolf companion, was a stunning creature with a thick, plush coat of grey fur that seemed to shimmer in the light. Her fur was a mesmerizing blend of dark and light greys, with subtle hints of blue and black that gave her a mysterious, smoky appearance. Her eyes were a piercing yellow, with a sharp, intelligent glint that missed nothing. Her ears were triangular and alert, always perked up and listening for any sign of danger. Her muzzle was narrow and pointed, with a subtle black nose that twitched with every scent.Nadia's body was sleek and athletic, built for speed and agility. Her legs were long and powerful, with paws that seemed to barely touch the ground as she moved. Her tail was long and feathery, with a subtle plume at the end that she used to express her moo
‘She’s waking up.’ Ava heard from a long distance as the swoosh sound ended and she realized she was back in her body. She felt pinned down, as if a heavy drum had been rolled upon her. The pain in her broken leg was back and she could not move any part of her body.‘That shouldn’t be,’ she heard the doctor said. ‘She is not supposed to wake up for the next five hours.’ Ava remembered how she had fainted when she saw the long needle in the doctor’s hands. So these rogues are bent on taking my blood. I need to get up and stop them. Ava thought in her heart. Before the thoughts finished forming, she felt herself sit up. Her eyes were still closed but the things that tied her down were falling off by themselves. Ava felt her broken leg crackle and the bone straightened. She only felt a slight pain at the ankle and her leg was healed.‘Impossible!’ She heard the doctor scream and suddenly, Ava lost control of her body as a force, greater than her, took over. It was a bright night, the mo
As Ava leapt from the window of the rogue laboratory, the warm glow of flickering fluorescent lights gave way to the cool, dark embrace of the night air. Nadia, her loyal wolf companion, led the way, her paws barely making a sound as they sailed through the void. The wind whipped Ava's hair into a frenzy, her heart racing with the thrill of escape. Time seemed to slow as they hung suspended, the laboratory's ominous facade receding into the distance. Then, with a gentle thud, they landed on the edge of a rugged cliff, the earth crumbling beneath their feet. The ground dropped away precipitously, plunging into darkness.Below, a hidden cave yawned like an open mouth, its entrance shrouded in shadows. The air emanating from the cave was damp and earthy, filled with the scent of moss and secrets. Ava's eyes adjusted slowly to the darkness, and she saw the cave's outline, a haven from the laboratory's sterile confines. Nadia, sensing freedom within their grasp, let out a triumphant howl,
