Serene music permeated the atmosphere, joyful sounds echoed in response from within Ava. Flowery scents competed with one another as Ava picked out smells of roses and lilac, among others. She involuntarily sniffed deeply to assimilate and possibly store the sweet savor for later use. Her ears tingled as she turned her head here and there in search of the melodious strain. The sky above her head was blue without a trace of clouds, bright light filled everywhere. Ava threw a glance up to check where the sun rose from in this land of utopia, but no harsh sun was above, only brightness.
Am I dead? She wondered then sighed in relief. That would be okay, it would be good riddance to the bad rubbish that her life had turned out to be. Maybe she would even meet her parents. Will I be able to recognize them? It’s been so long. At least they would recognize her, she consoled herself. Ava’s eyes travelled beyond the horizon as she searched for a possible companion in this beautiful space. She needed a friend, she had been so lonely in her short life. She thought of her life in the past twenty-one years. It had been a long monotony. She closed her eyes as scenes of the past scrolled in her mind. She saw how she lost her parents when she was six. No wonder she only had vague memories of them. The only incident that stayed with her was her sixth birthday, when her parents took her for a family picnic. Her father had his own bodyguards and her mother had maids but she could not remember any of those faces anymore. Her father really loved her mother and they sat side by side on the picnic mat that day, while she played with her own maid. Another family member had been present that day, she tried hard to recapture the eluding scene. In her muddled memory, Ava saw as some men rushed to their picnic site and a fight ensued. Her father had told her mother to carry her and run to a safe place but her mother was reluctant to part with her husband. Someone struck her father with a heavy object and he fell on his face. Ava could hear her shrieks mixed with her mother’s screams as the attackers came towards them. The rest of the scene was a blackout as Ava squeezed her memory but it remained blank. ‘That is enough for now.’ Ava heard as if from a distance, a calming yet sure voice with a subtle tone of command that the hearer would willingly obey. She slowly opened her eyes. Could this be a vision? She thought to herself. How could someone be this beautifully magical? A tall woman stood before her, ageless with silvery wispy hair, heaped upon her head and caught in place with a flowery crown. Eyes that kept changing color in concurrence with her mood and words, locked with Ava’s eyes. Clothed in flowing white gown with white shoes on her pretty feet, the lady shined with an ethereal light, invisible to the eyes. She was the right description of a fairy godmother in bedtime stories. Ava knew in her inner mind that the being coming towards her was definitely the Moon Goddess. As she reached that conclusion, she was captured in a bear hug which dissipated all her pains, fears, worries and sadness. I am home! She rejoiced in her heart. ‘My daughter, your troubles are almost over.’ Ava reluctantly disentangled a little and stole a look at the divine face. ‘Almost?’ She stuttered. ‘You mean they are not yet over? I assume I am finally home.’ Moon Goddess snapped her finger and a soft handkerchief appeared in her hand. She took Ava’s face in her hands as if she was a toddler, and wiped her tears clean. Ava was surprised that she had tears on her face, they must have run when she remembered her parents. ‘Thank you Moon Goddess. But, why can’t I remember what happened after my father died?’ ‘You will know when the time comes.’ ‘When will that be? I thought they would be here. Can I see my parents now?’ Instead of answering her, the Moon Goddess waved her hand and a table with two chairs appeared beside them. She sat on one chair and signaled Ava to sit on the other. She obediently sat and realized that the chair was very comfortable, she rested her back and waited for the next magic. The Moon Goddess tapped the table and a large scroll appeared, it spread itself across the table. Mesmerized, Ava drew closer to see what was written on it. Ava Winston – special breed Late bloomer – endangered Blooms night of 21- mighty weapon Mission: Save the generation Ava could not understand many of the words on the scroll and looked at the Moon Goddess quizzically. ‘What do these mean?’ ‘You will understand it better by and by. Just know that you, Ava Winston, are very special.’ ‘Hmmph’ sneered Ava. ‘How special can I be? I’ve been waiting for my wolf since my eighteenth birthday. I thought I would get a stronger wolf by my 21st birthday, but no. The mate you gave me ruthlessly rejected me and tormented me. No wolf, no mate, no pack. There is nothing special in me at all.’ ‘Don’t worry my daughter. We will settle it one by one.’ She clapped her hands and a little rusting beside Ava produced a grey wolf, with amber eyes, it was so beautiful and majestic. It came closer to Ava and bowed. ‘Hello Ava,’ it said. ‘I am Nadia, your wolf.’ ‘My wolf?’ Ava asked. ‘My wolf!’ She shouted and jumped up. ‘You now have a wolf, Ava. Congratulations.’ Ava quickly thanked Moon Goddess with a hug, and then she bent before Nadia and hugged her. Nadia hummed in enjoyment of the hug. ‘You were born for a purpose Ava. You have a great destiny. Be strong and courageous.’ Ava nodded in agreement. ‘Next is your mission.’At the rogues laboratory, the doctor gave Ava a dose of anesthetics and she slipped into peaceful sleep, her body relaxing from the shock it had before she fainted. Assisted by two wolves, part of the rogues, they set Ava in place by strapping her to the bed with ropes. Her hands and legs were swiftly tied as she laid on her back, unconscious. The doctor inserted canola into her vein and connected it to an empty bag, where her blood slowly drained into. A pair of rogues stayed on either side of the bed, guarding Ava as she gave them the precious liquid their leader needed, the very life in her.‘This pant is almost full.’ The doctor said as he monitored the collection process.‘Her blood is quite clean.’ One of the rogues observed.‘It’s making me hungry.’ Another rogue snarled as he coveted the blood.‘You’d better control yourself!’ His colleague growled at her.‘This is pure blood, meant for the sacrifice. After all she is a virgin, she has not been contaminated by many donors.’ Th
‘You were born for a purpose Ava. You have a great destiny. Be strong and courageous.’ Ava nodded in agreement.‘Next is your mission.’Ava looked at Nadia, her wolf and fell in love with her at once. Nadia, Ava's loyal wolf companion, was a stunning creature with a thick, plush coat of grey fur that seemed to shimmer in the light. Her fur was a mesmerizing blend of dark and light greys, with subtle hints of blue and black that gave her a mysterious, smoky appearance. Her eyes were a piercing yellow, with a sharp, intelligent glint that missed nothing. Her ears were triangular and alert, always perked up and listening for any sign of danger. Her muzzle was narrow and pointed, with a subtle black nose that twitched with every scent.Nadia's body was sleek and athletic, built for speed and agility. Her legs were long and powerful, with paws that seemed to barely touch the ground as she moved. Her tail was long and feathery, with a subtle plume at the end that she used to express her moo
‘She’s waking up.’ Ava heard from a long distance as the swoosh sound ended and she realized she was back in her body. She felt pinned down, as if a heavy drum had been rolled upon her. The pain in her broken leg was back and she could not move any part of her body.‘That shouldn’t be,’ she heard the doctor said. ‘She is not supposed to wake up for the next five hours.’ Ava remembered how she had fainted when she saw the long needle in the doctor’s hands. So these rogues are bent on taking my blood. I need to get up and stop them. Ava thought in her heart. Before the thoughts finished forming, she felt herself sit up. Her eyes were still closed but the things that tied her down were falling off by themselves. Ava felt her broken leg crackle and the bone straightened. She only felt a slight pain at the ankle and her leg was healed.‘Impossible!’ She heard the doctor scream and suddenly, Ava lost control of her body as a force, greater than her, took over. It was a bright night, the mo
As Ava leapt from the window of the rogue laboratory, the warm glow of flickering fluorescent lights gave way to the cool, dark embrace of the night air. Nadia, her loyal wolf companion, led the way, her paws barely making a sound as they sailed through the void. The wind whipped Ava's hair into a frenzy, her heart racing with the thrill of escape. Time seemed to slow as they hung suspended, the laboratory's ominous facade receding into the distance. Then, with a gentle thud, they landed on the edge of a rugged cliff, the earth crumbling beneath their feet. The ground dropped away precipitously, plunging into darkness.Below, a hidden cave yawned like an open mouth, its entrance shrouded in shadows. The air emanating from the cave was damp and earthy, filled with the scent of moss and secrets. Ava's eyes adjusted slowly to the darkness, and she saw the cave's outline, a haven from the laboratory's sterile confines. Nadia, sensing freedom within their grasp, let out a triumphant howl,
Sebastian trudged through the forest, his paws heavy with disappointment and frustration. He had been so sure he could find the wolfless omega, save her from the rogues' clutches. But now, as he returned home with Scott by his side, he couldn't shake the feeling of failure. His mind replayed every moment, every decision, wondering what he could have done differently. The weight of his responsibility as alpha settled heavy on his shoulders. He had let someone down, someone who needed his help, though she was not yet part of his pack. He had been somehow responsible for her banishment and must do his utmost to save her. If only he had not been mesmerized by her scintillating voice, he scolded himself before his wolf, Lois, could. As they approached the pack's territory, Sebastian's senses picked up the familiar scents and sounds, but they brought him no comfort. He felt restless, anxious, his thoughts consumed by the omega's unknown fate. Scott, sensing his alpha's turmoil, drove the c
Sebastian took permission from his uninvited guests and headed to his room, to freshen up. What he had planned to do slowly had to be rushed because although he was the present alpha of their pack, he dared not be rude to his parents, who were Alpha and Luna before him having being mated to the love of his life, Aaron, Sebastian’s father, decided to retire early when Sebastian came of age, so that he could enjoy quality time with his wife. He also took up political post among the elders of the pack, as one of the Council members. Sebastian returned to his guest after ten minutes, physically refreshed and mentally prepared. As he took his seat at the dinner table, he still couldn't help but feel like a trapped animal, cornered by the expectations of those around him. His parents' enthusiasm and Lila's charming smiles only added to the suffocating atmosphere. His mother, ever the gracious hostess, began to serve the first course, a delicate soup that wafted a savory aroma through the a
As Sebastian turned to head back inside, he noticed a figure watching him from the shadows. It was his mother, her eyes gleaming with a knowing light.‘Sebastian, come here,’ she said, her voice low and urgent.Sebastian approached her, feeling a sense of trepidation. ‘What is it, Mother?’‘You've made a choice, one that will have far-reaching consequences,’ she said, her voice dripping with a mix of disappointment and understanding. ‘We need answers Sebastian, why don’t you want Lila?’ Without waiting for his answer, her mother continued. ‘Lila is a lovely beta wolf, her position suits you. Her father was your father’s beta and present strongest shareholder of our company. Sebastian, you need Lila.’‘Mom, I need my fated mate. I am waiting for the Moon Goddess to give me another mate’.Sebastian's mother nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "I know, son. You've always been stubborn when it comes to following your heart. But remember, the Moon Goddess has a way of surprising us
The following morning, Nadia roused Ava from within. She slowly opened her eyes, wondering where she was. She realized that it was the day after her birthday and could hardly believe how many things happened on that single day. If someone had told her that she would experience that much within a day, Ava would have concluded that such fellow was drunk. But, here she was, without a pack, still in the vicinity of the rogues, but now with her wolf. Ava sat up and yawned lazily, her stomach growled in response and she realized she was hungry. She ought to be hungry. Her only meal on her birthday yesterday had been the one served by the bounty hunter. Looking back, she now knew that the human had been sent to her for a purpose. He saved her from the rain, reduced the pain in her leg, made fire to warm her cold body, and fed her with hot food till she could eat no more. Ava silently offered a prayer of thanksgiving in appreciation of the divine guidance. She got up, ready to search for fo
