‘She’s waking up.’ Ava heard from a long distance as the swoosh sound ended and she realized she was back in her body. She felt pinned down, as if a heavy drum had been rolled upon her. The pain in her broken leg was back and she could not move any part of her body.
‘That shouldn’t be,’ she heard the doctor said. ‘She is not supposed to wake up for the next five hours.’ Ava remembered how she had fainted when she saw the long needle in the doctor’s hands. So these rogues are bent on taking my blood. I need to get up and stop them. Ava thought in her heart. Before the thoughts finished forming, she felt herself sit up. Her eyes were still closed but the things that tied her down were falling off by themselves. Ava felt her broken leg crackle and the bone straightened. She only felt a slight pain at the ankle and her leg was healed. ‘Impossible!’ She heard the doctor scream and suddenly, Ava lost control of her body as a force, greater than her, took over. It was a bright night, the moon was at its peak, full, casting its rays upon the inhabitants of the abandoned house in the woods, where the temporal laboratory was put together. Ava stood beneath the full moon, its silvery light casting an ethereal glow upon her face. She felt the familiar stirrings within her, the primal call of the wild that she could no longer deny. With a gentle sigh, she surrendered to the transformation, her body beginning to shift and contort. Her limbs stretched and shortened, her senses growing sharper as her body hair thickened and darkened. Her hands and feet transformed into paws, her fingers and toes merging into razor-sharp claws. Her face elongated, her nose and mouth reshaping into a snout. Ava's clothes tore and fell away, unable to contain the powerful muscles that now rippled beneath her skin. Her skin itched and prickled, as a thick, luxurious coat of fur burst forth, covering her in a soft, silky layer. As the transformation took hold, Ava felt her mind expand, her thoughts growing sharper and more instinctual. She was no longer fully human, but a creature of the wild, driven by primal urges and desires. ‘She is shifting!’ One of the rogues exclaimed as the human doctor opened his mouth wide at the magical transformation he just witnessed. Sensing that he could be in danger, the wise doctor quickly ran out of the room, to bear the tidings to Marcus. With a final, triumphant cry, Ava stood on four legs, her body fully transformed into that of a majestic wolf. She raised her head to the moon, her eyes shining with a fierce, yellow light, and let out a long, haunting howl, announcing her presence to the world. Tim, in a bid to prove himself and acquire the post of Marcus’ beta, commanded the rogues to tackle Ava. ‘Get her! Don’t let her leave this place. We still need her blood.’ He shouted at the rogues around. ‘B-but, she now has her wolf…’ The timid rogue answered, still shaken from the sudden transformation of a wolfless wolf. ‘She is still a virgin!’ Four of the rogues moved closer to Ava, and tried to tackle her. Understanding their intention, she fought back. With a fierce growl, Ava launched herself at the rogues, her paws barely touching the ground as she charged. Her fur stood on end, and her eyes blazed with a fierce yellow light, as she targeted Tim, the leader of the group. The rogue, a snarling mass of teeth and muscle, swung a vicious blow at Ava, but she dodged with ease, her agility and quick reflexes allowing her to avoid the attack. With a swift counterattack, Ava sank her teeth into the rogue's shoulder, her jaws closing with a satisfying crunch. The other rogues closed in, snapping and snarling, but Ava was a force to be reckoned with. She spun and twisted, her claws flashing in the moonlight, as she took down each attacker with precision and skill. Her fur was matted with dirt and blood, but Ava's eyes shone with a fierce triumph, as she defended herself against the rogues. She was a wolf on a mission, driven by instinct and a desire to protect herself and her werewolf world. With a final, decisive blow, Ava took down the last rogue, her teeth closing around his throat. She stood panting, her chest heaving with exertion, as she surveyed the carnage around her. The rogues lay defeated, their plans foiled by Ava's bravery and strength. She shifted back into her human form and vented her anger on the laboratory equipment, turned the bed down and burst the little bag containing a little quantity of blood collected from her. She saw the urine bottle, and, imagining the evil they might do with it, smashed it on the ground, pouring its contents on the spilled blood on the ground. Better to waste those things than to let her precious body fluids get into evil hands. Ava wanted to spoil the place more but her ears suddenly perked up as she heard footsteps walking fast towards her. She tuned her ears to get snippets of their conversation and was surprised that she could hear them clearly, as if they were in the room with her, whereas they were still about twenty meters away from where she was. ‘She changed to a wolf! I saw it with my own eyes!’ The doctor screamed at the top of his voice. ‘She transformed? But Tim said she was wolfless…’ Marcus answered, waiting for someone’s answer. ‘Maybe she eventually came into her wolf. Her blood is useless now.’ Ava heard a nasal voice answered Marcus, who laughed hysterically. ‘She is not totally useless. My snakes are hungry as you can see just now when we checked them, we can use her to feed them. The more they eat the better for us.’ Ava knew she was still not safe. Nadia sensed her fear and calmed her down. ‘This way,’ Nadia shifted Ava’s face to the window. ‘Let us jump!’ Suddenly, Ava’s eyes could see far beyond the window. She saw a cliff, with unending depth thereafter. She hesitated because jumping there might mean death. She saw Marcus opened the door of the laboratory, and jumped. Is this how I will die? Ava thought as she flew in space, afraid to land inside danger. As Ava leapt from the window of the rogue laboratory, the warm glow of flickering fluorescent lights gave way to the cool, dark embrace of the night air. Nadia, her loyal wolf companion, led the way, her paws barely making a sound as they sailed through the void. The wind whipped Ava's hair into a frenzy, her heart racing with the thrill of escape. Time seemed to slow as they hung suspended, the laboratory's ominous facade receding into the distance. Then, with a gentle thud, they landed on the edge of a rugged cliff, the earth crumbling beneath their feet. The ground dropped away precipitously, plunging into darkness.Below, a hidden cave yawned like an open mouth, its entrance shrouded in shadows. The air emanating from the cave was damp and earthy, filled with the scent of moss and secrets. Ava's eyes adjusted slowly to the darkness, and she saw the cave's outline, a haven from the laboratory's sterile confines. Nadia, sensing freedom within their grasp, let out a triumphant howl,
Sebastian trudged through the forest, his paws heavy with disappointment and frustration. He had been so sure he could find the wolfless omega, save her from the rogues' clutches. But now, as he returned home with Scott by his side, he couldn't shake the feeling of failure. His mind replayed every moment, every decision, wondering what he could have done differently. The weight of his responsibility as alpha settled heavy on his shoulders. He had let someone down, someone who needed his help, though she was not yet part of his pack. He had been somehow responsible for her banishment and must do his utmost to save her. If only he had not been mesmerized by her scintillating voice, he scolded himself before his wolf, Lois, could. As they approached the pack's territory, Sebastian's senses picked up the familiar scents and sounds, but they brought him no comfort. He felt restless, anxious, his thoughts consumed by the omega's unknown fate. Scott, sensing his alpha's turmoil, drove the c
Sebastian took permission from his uninvited guests and headed to his room, to freshen up. What he had planned to do slowly had to be rushed because although he was the present alpha of their pack, he dared not be rude to his parents, who were Alpha and Luna before him having being mated to the love of his life, Aaron, Sebastian’s father, decided to retire early when Sebastian came of age, so that he could enjoy quality time with his wife. He also took up political post among the elders of the pack, as one of the Council members. Sebastian returned to his guest after ten minutes, physically refreshed and mentally prepared. As he took his seat at the dinner table, he still couldn't help but feel like a trapped animal, cornered by the expectations of those around him. His parents' enthusiasm and Lila's charming smiles only added to the suffocating atmosphere. His mother, ever the gracious hostess, began to serve the first course, a delicate soup that wafted a savory aroma through the a
As Sebastian turned to head back inside, he noticed a figure watching him from the shadows. It was his mother, her eyes gleaming with a knowing light.‘Sebastian, come here,’ she said, her voice low and urgent.Sebastian approached her, feeling a sense of trepidation. ‘What is it, Mother?’‘You've made a choice, one that will have far-reaching consequences,’ she said, her voice dripping with a mix of disappointment and understanding. ‘We need answers Sebastian, why don’t you want Lila?’ Without waiting for his answer, her mother continued. ‘Lila is a lovely beta wolf, her position suits you. Her father was your father’s beta and present strongest shareholder of our company. Sebastian, you need Lila.’‘Mom, I need my fated mate. I am waiting for the Moon Goddess to give me another mate’.Sebastian's mother nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "I know, son. You've always been stubborn when it comes to following your heart. But remember, the Moon Goddess has a way of surprising us
The following morning, Nadia roused Ava from within. She slowly opened her eyes, wondering where she was. She realized that it was the day after her birthday and could hardly believe how many things happened on that single day. If someone had told her that she would experience that much within a day, Ava would have concluded that such fellow was drunk. But, here she was, without a pack, still in the vicinity of the rogues, but now with her wolf. Ava sat up and yawned lazily, her stomach growled in response and she realized she was hungry. She ought to be hungry. Her only meal on her birthday yesterday had been the one served by the bounty hunter. Looking back, she now knew that the human had been sent to her for a purpose. He saved her from the rain, reduced the pain in her leg, made fire to warm her cold body, and fed her with hot food till she could eat no more. Ava silently offered a prayer of thanksgiving in appreciation of the divine guidance. She got up, ready to search for fo
All traces of sleep and thoughts of meeting his fated mate in the dream erased from Sebastian at the mention of trouble in his company. Denizens Pharmaceuticals had been in his generation before he was born. It started as a small medicine store and got bigger as wolves of the next generations studied medicine and built it from the ground up. His father, Raphael Denizens, had pushed the fame of the company beyond their small town of Wet Creek into the city and then the capital. It was now Sebastian’s mission to make Denizens’ Pharmaceuticals the leading brand in the capital and beyond. He even planned to make it go international, if only he could make something unique, different from their present products and any competition. Before he got to the office that day, Sebastian had known the reason for the trouble. A competition company, Ravenwood Remedy, came to their town recently and had been growing by leaps and bounds. It seemed the shareholders of his company, Denizen Pharmaceuticals
Nadia led Ava through a hidden part behind their cave, into the back of the rogues’ house. Ava was surprised and yelped in astonishment. Nadia shushed her and led her to the barn at the back of the house, which served as the rogues’ store.‘There is food,’ Nadia told Ava. ‘Take what you need quickly; we must get back to our task’.‘But, it is the rogues’ food Ava. This is stealing; I have never stolen anything in my life and I will not start now’.‘They brought you to this forest and should be responsible for you. You can pay back with fruits.’‘Okay, I think you are right. I will just borrow these for now and pay back when I get those juicy oranges tomorrow. They do not even have any orange left.’ Ava responded as she took an empty box and noiselessly packed some foods inside. She took bread, biscuits, jam, dried fish and smoked meat. She was careful not to take much, in order not arouse suspicion. She did not touch their basket of fruits, for she had her own store of those. They got
‘You must journey to the Heart Tree,’ the owl replied to Ava’s question of what she could do to solve the problem. ‘It is the source of the forest's power,’ the wise owl continued. ‘There, you will find the ancient ones who can guide you on your quest.’‘I am ready,’ Ava said, her heart thumping with excitement. The owl nodded its head in approval. ‘May the wisdom of the forest be with you, Ava. May you succeed where others have failed.’With that, the owl spread its wings and took flight, leaving Ava and Nadia to begin their journey to the Heart Tree.As they journeyed deeper into the forest, the trees grew taller and the path grew narrower. Ava could feel the weight of the forest's magic all around her, a pulsing energy that seemed to be drawing her closer to the Heart Tree.‘Nadia, can you sense it?’ Ava asked, her voice barely above a whisper.‘Yes, Ava,’ Nadia replied, her voice echoing in Ava's mind. ‘The Heart Tree is near. I can feel its power calling to us.’Suddenly, the t
