THE SHIELD withstood the spears, breaking them in the end. After that, the broken spears turned into tiny shining dust and floated in the air while Xurden took a deep breath to calm his racing heart. He had released too much spiritual energy, which made his body hot. His surroundings also started spinning because of the sudden dizziness that struck his head.

“Accept your fate. You’re supposed to die anyway even before you came here to this world,” the vassal said as he flew down.

The vassal landed on Xurden’s front a few inches away, stepping a foot on his face.
