Chapter Nine

Emily trembled as she glanced at Will's phone and read the headline. her world crumbled and the restaurant in front of them faded into the background. Will tightened his grasp on her hand, anchoring her in the present moment.

"Emily, we'll get through this," he said calmly.

She took a long breath, attempting to calm herself. "But how?" "This could ruin everything."

Will's face stiffened with resolve. "We'll start by figuring out who is behind this. I think Victoria had something to do with it."

Emily nodded, but anxiety was still gnawing at her. "But what can we do?"

Will sighed. "First, we need to speak with Laura. She's a lawyer, I know. She's good, and she'll be able to manage this."

Emily agreed, feeling a bit more optimistic with a strategy in place. They swiftly exited the restaurant, avoiding questioning looks from other customers. The journey to Laura's workplace was tense, and both of them were deep in contemplation.
