The New Guy

The sun shone brightly on a beautiful huge white manor, that stood in the middle of a large field. A middle-aged woman opened an old large wooden door and walked out. She had curly blonde hair and she wore a knee-length blue dress. Two girls followed her. One was tall and pretty. She had short, curly black hair. The other was short and had long blonde hair. Both the girls wore a thick dark blue jacket on black trousers and black boots. The woman on the other hand wore shoes instead of boots. They kept walking on the grass in front of the manor until they reached a large black gate.

"Girls, be back on time. Go carefully and do not talk to strangers."

"Mother you talk as if we are little girls," said the girl with short hair.

"Nancy, mother says this as a reminder to us, so that we don't fall into a trap. Many girls have been found dead in the past week," said the blonde girl.

"Of late, even your cousin Cathy is missing. Sheriff Oscar is a close friend of your father and still, he hasn't told us anything about Cathy." said the woman.

"Oh don't worry mother, we will take care of ourselves and don't worry about Cathy," said Nancy.

"Mother, I think even you should watch out for freaks at your clinic. A serial killer must be behind these deaths," said the blonde girl.

"Emma, you don't have to worry about that. Even crazy people get scared of we dentists. They freak out just looking at the dental chair."

"Are you sure? I don't think Emma is afraid of those," said the girl with short hair.

"Nancy, what do you mean by that?" Asked Emma loudly.

"Now both of you, stop fighting or else you will miss your bus. Remember, no shortcuts and do not go in deserted streets. Straight to your school and back home. Nancy, you are younger, but take care of your clumsy sister."

"MOTHER! "said the blonde girl shocked.

"Now don't waste time."

Together the girls opened the gate and walked out. Their mother watched them quietly.

'Oh, God! Keep my daughters safe.' thought the woman as she looked at her daughters for one last time before turning and walking back inside the manor.

The two girls walked quietly on the road passing by beautifully built homes. They lived in the Emerald Street of a small town named Roseville, where the homes belonged to rich or influential families. Their father Arnold Smith, usually stayed away from the town, as he had a huge hotel and a resort to be managed in Washington. Their mother Helina Smith was a dentist. She worked at the town's local dental clinic during the day.

The people in Roseville lived a quiet and happy life until they saw a body in the woods. It was Emma's best friend Julia's body. Since then, every few days a corpse was found in the woods. A group of people protested yesterday outside the town's police station demanding more protective measures for the safety of people and FBI investigation. Finally, the Sheriff and the mayor assured everyone that they will take steps to protect the town. Although the mayor also announced that the FBI will be coming here soon, many students at the high school wondered if this was the work of a serial killer.

"Hey, are you okay?" Asked Nancy as they continued to walk in the snow-covered street.

"Yes," replied Emma

"You did not eat breakfast properly. "

"Not hungry."

"I know how you feel. You miss Julia."

"She was my best friend Nancy. Cathy did tag along with us but Julia my bestie. I wish she was here. I miss her."

"You need to start talking to other people. Look at me, I just started high school but I know everyone, but though you are in the final year, only a few know you."

"I am not like you. I talk to few good people and stick to them."

"Wow! Who is that?" Asked Nancy as they got closer to a bus stop.

They saw a handsome young teenager standing in a corner. He was very tall and had black hair. He had earphones in his ears and he seemed to be lost in his world of music. All the girls who stood beside him kept looking at him again and again.

As soon as Nancy and Emma joined the line of students, he turned and straight looked at Emma. There was eye contact between both of them for more than a minute. His beautiful blue eyes gazed into her black eyes. Emma felt compelled to look at him, even though a part of her wanted to look away.

A fat young teenager pushed Emma as he walked past her. She finally turned her face and looked at the person who pushed her.

"Oh I am sorry," he said.

Emma ignored him and bent down to pick her earphones which had fallen off. After retrieving it, she plugged it into her cellphone. She was just about to turn up the volume when her sister Nancy stopped her.

"Hey, I saw that," she said.

"Saw what?" asked Emma.

"That handsome new guy seems interested in you."

"Nancy, no one can be interested in a girl like me. I am not tall and pretty like you."

"That's low confidence."
