I did not understand where her deep malice toward me stemmed from.

My parents were quite disconnected from the internet. Even so, they heard about the current uproar. They got so furious that they ended up in the hospital, hence I was busy taking care of them.

Jason did not seem to be affected by the public’s opinion. He helped me at the hospital, which made my parents happy.

“Don’t worry. When the uproar reaches its peak, that would be the best time to fight back.”

I sighed in response. We were sitting on a bench in the corridor and sharing some potato stew that I had made.

“I don’t really care. Even if we don’t find any evidence, they’ll forget about it in time. I just didn’t want to drag someone innocent like you into this hot mess.”

Jason smiled and lowered his head to sip on the stew. Then, he said, “I’m not innocent.”

The next day, some extremists vandalized my house with paint and attempted to enter. Fortunately, I was not home, so they did not succeed.
