Fear gripped me, paralyzing me where I stood. I tried to move, but my feet felt glued to the floor, my knees trembling. Tristan was getting closer, and I couldn’t think of anything to do except close my eyes and brace for the worst.

Oh, shoot. He looks angry now.

I admit, seeing Tristan angry and ferocious filled me with fear. I mean, come on! What could a she-wolf like me have against a formidable alpha like him? Tristan may have been a jerk and stupid in his thinking, but in battle, he was an alpha for a reason.

Suddenly, another voice broke through the tension.

“Hey! Leave Elaine alone!”

Trevor rushed to my side, confronting Tristan. Tristan glared at Trevor, his breath shallow.

“What the hell are you doing? This is between me and my wife. Stay out of this.”

But Trevor refused to move and instinctively positioned himself between me and Tristan. Tristan showed his teeth and mocked,

“You think you’re strong enough to stand your ground?”

“If I were you, I wouldn’t do anything f
