Amara froze when Elijah asked her that question. It took an amount of willpower that she did not know she possessed, to stop her eyes from going as wide as saucers.
“Excuse me?”
Elijah smiled, but Amara was certain it was not his usual go to smile. She could tell, and for some reason, that made her all the more aware of his question, all the more nervous.
What the fuck did he mean with that question? He couldn’t possibly know who she really was, now could he?
The woman was tempted to gulp, but she managed to keep herself from doing so. She wanted to look composed, unaffected, as though his words meant nothing to her.
“I…I don’t know what you’re talking about-“
“I had someone look into it. What happened at the auction.”
Elijah’s words had new sets of wheels spinning in her head. On one hand, she was relieved that he knew nothing about her true identity, on the other han
A whole week of pure peace and silence felt like the strangest thing that had ever happened to Amara. There was no Tobias popping up out of thin air, or Celestine showing up to ruin her day, or even Fiona to annoy the heck out of her.It was quiet and peaceful, and honestly, it scared Amara a bit.Just what were they plotting? And to top it all off, Duncan was still nowhere to be found.Sighing, she decided not to dwell on it and instead, focus on the task at hand.Today, she had a meeting with Gemini and honestly, she was really happy that she didn’t have to see Tobias’s face. Him dropping out of the project seemed like the best decision made this month. After all, if he hadn’t, she would have been stuck working with him and that, she didn’t want.Shaking the thoughts away, she headed to the conference room and found a few of the Gemini representatives waiting. They were chatting among themselves and they greeted her when she arrived. She returned the greeting and sat down, ready to
“Tobias.”His name was called, but the voice did not belong to Amara. They had both been staring, speechless, when Celestine walked out of the restroom behind Amara. She turned around and felt her mood deteriorate more than it already was when she saw the young model. The effect was the opposite for Celestine. She brightened up, or at least, feigned happiness at the sight of Amara.“Amara!” She smiled and moved past her, wrapping her hand around Tobias’s upper arm. “Pleasure seeing you here.”Amara frowned. That two faced bitch was always getting on her nerve. Couldn’t she just see her and look away without saying a thing, for once?“Are you here with friends?” Celestine pressed on, smiling from ear to ear. “Or,” She glanced at Tobias briefly. “Are you here with a lover?"That question had both Amara and Tobias stiffening.“Excuse me?” Amara hissed, anger evident in her tone.Celestine smiled. “I didn’t mean to anger you. I was just asking.”“Keep your questions to yourself, hearing y
It was around 3 in the early morning, Amara stood in front of her window, looking out with her phone presses against her ear.Behind her were carton boxes, lined up in front of her bed.Minutes after she had placed the call, the line connected and Lorenzo’s voice filled her ear.“Amara? Jesus Christ, Amara, it’s 3 in the morning. Is everything okay?”She was silent. Blankly, she stared at the window, catching her devoid expression from across the glass.“I want to come home, Lorenzo.” Her voice was rough, showing signs that she had cried.“You what? Hold on,” There subtle clicking sound, then the sound of sheet rustling before Lorenzo spoke again. “Mara, talk to me, is everything okay?”“Yes, I just…I just want to come home.”“But you still have about three months left there. And what happened to protesting against coming home when the time run
Ah, so he was already setting things up for his perfect new life, Amara thought, but, contrary to how she had imagined this moment, all the pain, fear and hurt she had always thought she feel, she felt normal. It was like the feelings she had for Tobias for the past 6 years had been taken away from her the night before, shoved into a very thick box and tossed to a place unreachable by her. But, even if she wasn’t hurt by the whole fiasco he was displaying, it didn’t mean she wasn’t pissed.A court restraining order? Really? If anyone was meant to get one of those, it would be her, for both Tobias and his clearly crazy mistress- ah, forgive her- Fiancée.“You’re bullshit is really crossing the line now, Tobias.” She opened the paper and flagged it in his face. “A court restraining order? Are you sick or do you have some disgusting delusion of me planted in that mind of yours.”“After every
An address was immediately sent after the text message. Amara’s grip on her phone tightened as she felt all the fear she had been warding off, concerning Duncan’s situation, come true. She couldn’t believe it. It was one thing when that bastard tried hurting her, but now, Duncan, someone who wasn’t in any part related or part of her mess, was now being dragged down her rabbit hole and being held hostage. She didn’t know why Tobias would go to such length, nor did she care. She had to save Duncan.“Amara, is something wrong?”She looked up from her phone as soon as she heard Elijah’s voice and fixed her expression when she noticed how tight it had become.“Yeah, Everything is fine,” She locked her screen and placed it face down on the table, flashing him a fake smile in the process. “Just these spam messages, they’ve been coming a lot as of late. Annoying things might I tell you
Amara sat in the waiting area of the hospital, a cup of coffee in her hand and her head tilted back. She wasn't the least bit tired, but she still had her eyes closed. In front of her, Elijah was pacing, phone pressed to his ear. He had just finished wrapping up the call with the officer that picked James up when he turned to face her."Still no updates?""Not yet," She replied and he sighed."This is ridiculous. They assured us that his situation wasn't all that bad, so why is it taking them years to come out."Watching as he shook his head and sink in beside her, Amara couldn't help but smile. For someone who did know Duncan, he was worrying unnecessarily. This persona was very different from the one she saw back at the warehouse. Amara noted.Speaking of the warehouse, now that she had thought about the ugly incident, she recalled what James had told her.The person who set up this entire stunt was..."Ms. Mill
“I heard Ms. Miller bagged another deal of over a billion dollars.”Gathered in the cafeteria of Synergy, the employees gossiped amongst themselves during lunch break.Immediately after the first employee had said that, another employee joined in, saying, “Yes, that’s not all, the company just released an article announcing the opening of another office in Russia. It seems as though Ms. Miller isn’t holding back, she’s expanding.”“That’s right,” Someone else joined in, “Ms. Miller is really proving to be more capable than we had expected. I can’t believe I doubted her when that stupid rumor broke out.”“I agree with you and not only that, I think the CEO should have given her the reins earlier, she’d have turned Synergy into a multi-billion dollar company by now.”“Yes, I agree.”The table broke into a heated conversation, unaware of the executive that stood a distance away.Listening to all the praises that was being showered on Amara, his hand tightened around the coffee cup he hel
Amara’s car was parked across the street from Melanie’s house. It had been a minute since she arrived and she hadn’t even turned off the engine. She was hesitant. She had come all this way and was now in the position to get out of the car and go see her best friend. But a part of her was scared.‘What if Melanie was still angry and doesn’t want to see her?’ She thought.Ah, her heart clenched. She wasn’t sure she could handle rejection at the moment. But then again, she really didn’t want to leave things unsettled between them both. She couldn’t bear the thought of going all the way to Italy and Melanie was still pissed. That was the last thing she wanted. She needed to do this. So, taking a deep breath, she turned off the engine, and, grabbing her purse, stepped out of the car.Crossing the road, she went to Melanie’s front door and rang the bell. She waited, her heart beating a little too fast and her palms getting a little sweaty. Ah, it had been a while since she had been this ner
