Elijah watched as Amara emerged from the room. The relief in her eyes was enough to tell him that whatever tension and worry she had been feeling had been washed away.
She spotted him just as quickly and offered him a faint smile.
“The doctor?” She asked, stopping in front of him.
“He’s on his way,” Was Elijah’s response as he took her hand in his, gently examining the band AIDS on her fingers and sighing.
“I should have come sooner,” He muttered and brought her fingers up to his lips. He kissed them, gently and carefully, not wanting to cause her any more pain than she already was in.
His action had Amara smiling, but his words had her frowning.
“Don’t,” She said. “You didn’t know something like that would have happened. Please, don’t beat yourself up over something you can’t control.”
