Lucian stood in the middle of the room staring at the dress Thea left pooled on the floor in a daze. His mind knew that Thea's words held a deeper meaning than whether this dress was easy to get out of or not. But his thought process was frozen in one repeated thought.

Thea's eyes... They were so cold even when she was smiling. Since when did her eyes change like that? Her radiant bright eyes were his favorite part about her whenever she smiled. Why was she changing?

Slowly walking to the dress, he knelt and picked it up. It was heavy and thick. perhaps mirroring the state of his heart. It was heavy and frozen in fear of what he knew was true but refused to admit.

When Thea emerged from the room, she was wearing jeans and a hoodie.

"Are you going somewhere?" He asked feeling his heart clench when he realized that whatever was happening, Thea seemed to have already made up her mind.

"I'm not needed anymore, you got your marriage contract, I got my mother's charity back, and just for th

Thea walked into the room and silently closed the door behind her leaning against it. She clenched her fist trying hard to stop herself from breaking down, she still had so much to do, she needed to pull herself together. She heard someone moving inside the room and made her way inside to find Pen sitting there waiting for her."Is it over?" Pen asked.Over, huh... There was a finality to this word that was still sinking in within her mind."Yeah, it's over..." Thea said simply wondering why she still felt like there was something else.Lucian's devastated face came to her mind and she shook the image away ignoring how it made her resolve waver."Did he not stop you?" Pen asked."No, he didn't..." it was the truth, he didn't try to stop her. Because he seemed more shocked and taken aback than she expected. The empty expression as he asked her if she was leaving made her wonder if he was asking her something else. If he was asking her if she was really leaving him. Then she was reminde

Lucian leaned back against the chair his head pounding and his neck aching. He somehow managed to fall asleep on the table after getting drunk of all the alcohol in the room. The alcohol he and Thea were supposed to enjoy together.Sighing, he stood up making his way into the bathroom and staring at the mirror. His eyes were bloodshot and had dark circles around them and his hair was a rat's nest. Such a pathetic appearance, he thought, one befitting someone like him.He was about to turn on the shower when persistent pounding started to penetrate through his door. Wondering who it was, a voice within him told him that it may be Thea coming to settle her score with him. She would be a welcome sigh, even while screaming and cursing him for deceiving her, he would welcome it more than the devastated look as her parting words slew him like sharpened swords. But his hope was dashed as soon as he opened his door to find himself looking at a frantic-looking Loyd as he stared at him."Where

Lucian watched silently as the board members across the table looked around uncomfortably. He was pondering about letting them live the awkward moment longer but his tablet lit up indicating that it was time for him to talk.Looking around at them and meeting the gaze of each one of them, Lucian felt his anger simmer within him.He stood up straightening his suit and looked around the room before he started speaking.“ladies and gentlemen, thank you for gathering here today on such short notice. As you know the battle for succession in our company has been going on for too long and I can’t help but feel that it is going to end up being the reason why our company is going to be destroyed from the inside if you don’t do anything about it.As I was looking for a way to end this battle, I stumbled upon some concern in details that I’m going to share with you today,r” Lucien said as he looked around the room.“ As you all know when my grandmother decided that my cousin and I would have to

As Lucian stood by the side of the corridor, he watched with satisfaction as the line of board members left the meeting room escorted by the police officers. Keith threw him a glare as he walked away, and as he did he could hear him demanding for his lawyer. Well, a lawyer would never be able to save him from embezzlement. Although Keith was his cousin from his father’s side, his father and mother had apparently long since died in a car accident which led him to be raised by their grandmother. Although they grew up together, Keith had always been hostile toward him for some reason, and Lucian didn’t really bother trying to find out why. He was a bit of an obnoxious guy back then too. Being someone who got everything he wanted and didn’t struggle in life overall gave him some bad qualities that he began to realize when he met Thea. And those bad qualities were probably what led him to this situation. Lucian reached for his phone dialing the number he had on top of his call history. T

Thea leaned back in her seat as she stared at the document she was reading on the laptop. She took the pencil from her lips and jotted down a few notes before flipping to the next page. Before she could get immersed in the content of her new page, she heard some knocking on the door and turned around to find Grace, Lucian’s grandmother standing there with a smile. “Hey there. The butler tells me that you’re impossible to get a hold of these days…” She trailed off as Thea motioned for her to come inside and sit down. “You were gone for a while, I happened to find a laptop and thought I could advance a little bit on my research while I’m here,” Thea explained. “While you’re here? So you decided to go back?” Grace asked. Thea smiled at the older woman. “You knew that I was going back eventually. I still have to work on the research until we can find someone to replace me…” she trailed off and Grace nodded in silence. “Are you sure you want to leave the university though?” Grace as

“Your grandfather collapsed last night due to extreme stress. You need to head back to see him,” The woman said through the phone.Nadia felt her heart skip a beat before her anxiety completely surrounded her dumping her in the cold waters of uncertainty and fear. She knew this feeling. It was the same as when her parents died. The crippling fear that overcame her the moment she was faced with their certain death. And the grief that had all but destroyed her that day.“Thea! Hey! Thea!” Grace called out shaking her shoulders forcefully snapping her out of her thoughts.“What should I do…” She trailed off emotionlessly and Grace shook her once again.“You should go back home and be with your grandfather. He had been looking for you everywhere since you disappeared. I wouldn’t be surprised if he collapsed because he was worried about you…” Grace trailed off.“But…” Thea trailed off unsure whether to come back or not.“You have to give the man a chance, Thea. “Here you go, now both of you will have a copy of the contract. You will have to live under the same roof for the rest of the year, after that, we can declare that the two of you have some unresolvable issues and end the relationship. Thea would return to her old house and as she insisted she would get nothing from the marriage and the property that is now in both your names would go back to Lucian," As Peter finished the lengthy explanation, Thea simply nodded as she put the contract into her purse. Peter sighed once again leaning back and looking at both of them with an exasperated look. She knew that he had a lot to say, mainly to give this another thought, but Thea didn't want to hear it so she didn't give him a chance. She barely met him and Pen since she came back because she wasn't ready to have a discussion yet."I sent the funds back to your account, they should be there," Thea said simply not looking at Lucian who was sitting on her other side."I don't want your money..."

For a while, it was quiet. An absolute quietness that was both peaceful and disturbing. There were moments like flashes when voices would reach her sometimes calling her name and sometimes talking amongst each other. But she was never able to pull through long enough to truly know what was going on.It was by the time that her awareness grew more alert when she heard them. The two distinct voices she knew so well.“How could you let this happen?! How could you when she was right beside you?!”“When are you going to stop blaming others for your own problems? You lost Thea because you acted like you could control her. Stop trying to blame me and start trying to figure out how to redeem yourself!”These words were followed by the distinct sound of a slap. And even in her sleep, Thea would later realize what truly went on that day.“…”“Are you alright?” Another voice asked.“Yeah… can you go check on him?”The silence that followed after that was deafening. “You didn’t answer my question,” Lucian said in the same calm tone as if this man hadn’t just threatened to violate her in front of him. “Who. Is. Behind. You” Lucian enunciated each word coming out of his mouth.Thea’s eyes moved away from the sight before her to look at Lucian’s hands. They were clenched in tight fists that she could distinguish through the darkness. She didn’t need to doubt whether or not Lucian was provoked by this man’s words. Because she could feel the rage coursing through his tight muscles ready to spring out at a moment’s notice. The man paused looking at Lucian with a blank face, the smile completely gone as he looked at him. Thea thought for a moment that he was going to turn violent when he simply asked.“Why? Are you going to pay me more than them?” He asked.Thea felt instant relief when the man said that, if he could be convinced with money, then…“If we can reach a deal,” Lucian answered, and the man smirked.Something was wrong, seriously wrong. She groaned and tried to shift wondering why she was having another hangover when she didn't even remember drinking. That's when the memory of her last moment of consciousness hit her brutally like a slap.Thea opened her eyes frantically looking around her. In a panicked move that did nothing but kick her back to the concrete ground with a hard thud as her hands remained tied behind her back unable to do anything to block the impact. The air got knocked from her lungs and she gritted her teeth looking around her trying to distinguish where she was only to hear a voice from near her."Hey... It's okay, don't move abruptly,"Thea turned around and felt her eyes well up with tears as she looked into the blue eyes she had been trying so hard to avoid for more than a month."What happened?" "What the hell did you just do?" Thea looked back at her friend to find her looking at her with a deep frown as she held her phone in her hand mid-gesture as if she was too shocked to continue what she was doing."I asked him to leave..." Thea answered simply and Pen sighed."I know. I was there. But why would you do this? He came all the way here from his meeting and raised hell because they took you in like this,""Well. that's all pretense. We're supposed to be a loving couple after all. I just don't want him involved too much in my problems," Thea stated as she turned around intending to walk outside."Are you okay with this?" Pen asked."Of course. Everything was a lie… Every single thing. Every moment, every word, and every touch. Even the sincere moments of consolation that drew out her strength, and the silly fights over small things. It was all a well-orchestrated scheme to make her hopelessly fall in love. How ridiculous is that? Just how much effort did it have to take to make her believe this? A pang rang through Thea’s chest as she felt the moment of realization she had been avoiding for more than a month draw near. “Did you hear what I just said, Professor Keaton?” The detective asked and Thea looked at him a bit out of it trying to gather her thoughts. “Sorry, can you repeat that?” She asked as she looked at him. “I was asking if you knew something about the money. Your uncle keeps insisting that you used it for illegal activities and we can’t find any trace of it in your accounts,” the detective said making Thea sigh. “As I said for the fifth time. There are no unusual activities and the money went to charity,” s
