Too Tired To Care

Thea silently stood there as she watched her uncle act out on stage in the middle of her wedding reception.

She wanted to feel offended or maybe embarrassed about this, but all she could feel was relief. Finally this joke was going to be over.

She caught Lucian giving her a worried look but she didn’t have it in her to pretend or give him an expression he seemed to desire anymore.

She’d been pretending to be fine all day long, all week long. She was tired. Period.

She pretended to care when Lucian came acting like he missed her. She pretended like she was happy to wear her mother’s dress while she wasn’t even wearing it.

And she pretended like she was looking forward to this wedding for the sake of the audience her grandfather and Lucian gathered for their own reasons.

Now she owed them nothing, not even a smile from her tired lips. So she stared as her uncle made a spectacle of himself as if she was completely detached from her emotions, as if her body had been put into a trance wher
