I turned my face away, neither looking at Evan nor Caleb.

“What is he doing here?” I knew Evan directed that question at me and not at Caleb.

I slowly tilted my head in their direction, I was filled with guilt and couldn’t even stare into Evan’s eyes.

“Oh… I didn’t know he would come earlier than scheduled,” I bit my lower lip as I wallowed in regret for sputtering out words that I didn’t think about before letting them out.

I wondered what was wrong with me, my tongue was dictating and rolling out words that shouldn’t be out.

“What?” Evan muttered gravely and I heard a chuckle from Caleb.

I muttered inaudible curses under my breath and looked at their face with courage that flew out of nowhere.

Caleb’s face held a smirk, and Evan’s face was smeared with disappointment; no, not disappointment, it was something worse than that.

This is so bad, too bad!

“Actually…”

“I came to pick up Rosy and the kid,” Caleb interrupted and I snapped my eyes at him.
