The maid watched as Carly ate her food, hoping she would drink the water as soon as possible.
“Please bitch, don't stress me, I beg of you… drink the damned water,” the maid muttered.
Carly, oblivious to the internal war the maid was passing through, continued to talk and laugh with Mandy and the other maid who sat with them.
“It's fun, I promise… I've had exciting lovers who made me swoon and hope for the next full moon, and I've had a fair share of embarrassing moments, too. I once shared the night with a male that stopped halfway to take a dump… Girl, I wish the earth could open and accept me,” Mandy facepalmed, earning a giggle from the girls.
“You don't mean it,” Carly exclaimed, still giggling and taking another piece of her bread to her mouth.
“I'm serious, girls. I didn't even wait for him to be back before I took off. I just couldn't. It felt disgusting.” Mandy added.
It seemed that the universe decided to put the maid's mind at rest because Carly choked on her bread while laughing.
“Sorry dear,” Mandy said, feeling bad that she was responsible.
“It's fine,” Carly replied and chugged her cup of water down her throat.
“Yes!” the maid said with relief, but after a minute she went pale.
Nothing was happening to her. No coughing, no blood, not even a struggle for breath. Carly was still talking with her friends.
“Maybe it's a slow one,” the maid said with apprehension.
Carly, still completely oblivious to the maid’s torment, left the dinning with eager plans for the night.
Soon, the Moon appeared and howls were heard.
Carly slipped out of her room and walked towards the courtyard, she had planned to meet Rick.
She met him standing with his arms stretched out, enjoying the wind and the beauty of the full moon.
Carly gazed at the moon, wondering how it came in existence in the first place.
Well…. You cannot question the ways of nature and fate.
She shrugged and then alerted Rick of her presence.
“I felt you miles away,” he said and turned to face her. “You're new to your abilities. At the full moon, all our senses are heightened, and you can train yourself to even hear a pin drop.”
“My father told me as well, but I don't know how to do it… I did not get to turn before he died,” she said, feeling downcast.
“Perhaps we were meant to meet. Maybe your dad sent me here to teach you… Who knows?” He said with a grin, then added, “Cheer up, princess.”
That earned a smile from her
“So, how do you do it?” She inquired.
“Close your eyes and listen to the wind,” He instructed.
“Okay.” She did as he had said.
“Now, try to pick out what you hear”
“I hear sounds, they are far but seem close,” she giggled. “I can hear them, Rick,” she said with a bright smile etched on her face.
“See? It's not hard. You just have to focus on what you want to hear, train your ears to obey you, they are part of our strength,” Rick said, looking serious.
Carly turned to look at him like he had hung the moon and stars all by himself. “You have a beautiful smile,” she caught herself saying.
“Is that a compliment, princess?” he grinned. “Males rarely like to be addressed as beautiful, but I'll take it,” he added. His smile got brighter.
She giggled and faced the moon again.
“Now, shall we?” He asked with his hand stretched out.
“Yes” She took his hands and felt heat curling up to her face.
“Let's explore the village first.” She was still skeptical about being in her wolf form with someone else.
“Your wish is my command” he bowed and then led her out of the den.
They took the busy lane and explored the town. Many were writing their wishes and getting them burnt. The smoke of wishes filled the air and vendors had their goods on display.
He stopped in front of a jewelry store and turned to observe the things on display. Most of the female products had flowery designs on them.
“Try this on” He gave her an ancient hair clip that was put on sale. She stared at it, immediately falling in love with it.
“I did not come with any money,” she declined.
“My gift to you, for being my first female friend,” he persuaded.
“Then I'll give you one too,” she acknowledged.
“Don't worry, you've given me what I want already. "
“What's that?” She asked, with her brows raised.
“Friendship,” He responded and then took the clip from her palm and placed it on her hair. “Perfect” he said, with his signature smile on his face.
After roaming around until her heart’s content, she excused herself and went to the forests. The moon was beginning to have an effect, and many were already changing. She had to change, but not in front of Rick.
“Alexis, we're finally alone. Are you ready?” She inquired.
“I've been prepared for this like forever,” Alexis replied with a glee.
Carly searched for a spot and took off her clothes, not wanting to ruin it. She cried out when she felt the pain of turning again.
“I almost forgot how it feels like…. It's been a long day.” Alexis muttered.
The pain subsided and Alexis emerged. She shook her body, then took off.
“Wow….. Nature is beautiful, Carly,” Alexis said while taking a look at the river nearby. She drank a little and then stormed off.
She ran as fast as her legs could carry her, the wind hitting her face along with the scent of the forest.
Climbing a little hill, she howled with her face to the sky as many times as her throat would let her.
She then sat there to observe the other wolves that lurked around at the foot of the hill, most of them were in pairs, and they snuggled with their mate. She quickly averted her eyes, not wishing to mourn over what she could not have.
After having her fill of the place, she took off again. This time she was running faster than before.
She only stopped when she saw a border with a sign ‘Do not trespass’
Not wishing to encounter rogues, she turned back and went on the same trail she came with.
I'm hungry… I knew being a wolf comes with a voracious appetite but didn't know it's this intense….
She then stalked in search of a rabbit to kill. After several failed attempts, she succeeded in catching a little rabbit.
“Well… Practice makes perfect…” she said to encourage herself and then devoured it.
When she saw the cloud covering the moon and realized it's almost dawn, she then ran back to the spot where she kept her clothes.
“Showtime is over, Alexis,” Carly muttered, and she nodded.
She then turned back into her human form, wore her clothes and left the forest, not noticing the shadow that lurked and watched her.
“Pray to the goddess that you're joking with me!” Alpha Hulbert thundered.
The maid was in a pool of tears. “I did everything you told me to, I swear it. She took it in front of me and nothing happened,” The maid tried to plead her case.
“Are you saying the fault is from me?” He asked with a stormy face.
He had purposely stayed behind after the banquet to take the good news to Alpha Stephen, but his plans had been ruined completely.
“I prepared that potion myself. I carried out a test, and it was effective,” He said, walking towards the maid with anger boiling in his blood.
He got to her front and stopped, cupping her jaw and staring at her. “Start talking, I need the truth from you if your son is to stay alive. "
“Please, I beg you,” the maid pleaded, "I'm saying the truth, I. I watched her drink it myself”
“Seems you take me for a fool. Fetch the kid for me!” He commanded one of his servants that had accompanied him to their hideout.
“Please… hurt me and leave him out of this” she begged, but the pleas fell on deaf ears.
“What's the fun in that?” He smirked.
The son appeared with fear in his eyes, looking from his mother to the alpha that held their lives in his palm.
Hulbert grabbed the boy and placed him in front of the maid and with one swift movement, he slit his throat.
“No!” the maid cried out, clutching her son in her arms as he fell to the ground.
“Now, we can't have any loose ends, can we?” Hulbert squatted at her eye level, smirked at the maid
as he placed his hands on both side of her face and with one movement, he snapped her neck.
“Take care of this mess,” he ordered his men and walked away.
Carly slipped back into the Supreme Alpha's den just before dawn and met Mandy waiting already.“Lover girl is back” she gave her a naughty wink.“It's not like that, Mandy,” Carly replied with a chuckle.“How was it?” Mandy inquired. “It was fun. I wish every night there would be a full moon,” Carly said with a wistful smile on her face.“Same here, Whi… who is there?” Mandy was interrupted by a knock on their door.A maid came in and stared at Carly. "Mia asked for you. "“Do you know why?” Carly inquired, not eager to leave the confines of her room. The only response she got was a click on the door. The maid had left.“I'll be right back,” Carly told Mandy, and left in search of Mia.She found her in the kitchen with Veronica. Glancing at Veronica, she gave a curt nod and turned to Mia. "You asked for me.”“I sent for you, come with me” Veronica gave her a long look and stalked off with Carly at her back. She was led into a chamber that she had not seen before.‘Must be her chambe
“No!” Carly screamed just before her father’s head fell to the ground and, she was surrounded by injured and dead pack members. Blood everywhere. Everything was happening fast. It was terrifying to watch. Her hands and dress were stained with blood. Blood of the innocent killed miserably. She was shaking in fear and her heart felt like it was going to explode. “It can’t be. No, it can’t. Noooo!”Suddenly, Carly jolted awake after an abrupt, sharp pain was felt. Gasping for air while trying to wake up from the nightmare. She finally opened her eyes wide to see a figure standing in front of her, holding a whip.Carly glared at the figure with anger. Her eyes burning with flames of revenge as her mind ran through several thoughts. And Zoya on the other hand, stared right back with so much disgust as she noticed the hatred in her eyes. She felt insulted that Carly dared to look at her in such a manner, and swore that she ought to teach a lesson.“I’ve been too nice that you think, you can
Carly felt crushed. She sat on the bed in the room where the guards had placed her. Flashes of her father’s death replayed in her head, leaving her silently sobbing, feeling utterly helpless and alone. She moved away from the bed and then went to the door as the only thing she could think of was to run away and plan herself well. But unfortunately, the door was locked from the outside and, she was too weak to force her way out since she hasn’t turned into a wolf yet. After what seem like an hour but was actually five minutes passed, the door opened and three familiar faces walked in. The three witches.Helen, Tabitha and Sara. In their hands, they carried bags. Carly saw this as an opportunity to flee but the maids stopped her before she could make it pass the door.“Fool, where do you think you are running off to? The guards are right at the door. Try leave and get more beating.” Helen mocked. Referring to the punishment after Helen reported to Zoya that she was sleeping instead of w
The maid heard Carly’s call and moved closer to the door, “What is the problem?”“Open the door for me, please.” Carly whispered her answer.“You aren't allowed outside until Lord Ralph arrives.” The answer came straight up.A slow smirk plastered across Carly’s face. She had expected that answer so, she went with plan B.“You see, the thing is that, I can’t find my gown and Lord Ralph will be here soon. Please help me.” Carly begged for assistance. The maid thought the request to be absurd.“I thought they dressed you up already?” the maid said.“you got me. yes, they did but, I took off the gown and now, I need assistance putting it back on. Please, come and help. I will be punished severely if caught like this.” Carly lied.“I don’t get why you took it off to begin with,” “It was so itchy.” Carly lied. She prayed in her mind the maid believes.“Okay,” The maid finally had her hand on the door knob and Carly moved back. hiding behind the door and waiting patiently.“Where are you?”
Carly was dazed to her bone narrow. She couldn’t utter a word... All she could do was just blink. Her heart was torn between anger, confusion and disbelief. He can’t possibly be her mate, or maybe it was all a nightmare. One that she must wake from.It might be a punishment by the moon goddess but then, what did she do to deserve it. Why was life treating her harshly? “Leave me alone!” She shouted the moment, the guards laid hands on her.“I see that you’ve gotten stronger. Maybe you now have a wolf.” The guards’ leader commented after seeing how Carly pushed the guards away with almost no potency.Overlooking the statement made, boiling in rage, she yelled, “I am your mate and yet, you order them to lay hands on me and lock me up. What kind of a king does that to his woman?” this made Derek to stop but, he didn’t turn, wanting to continue as he didn’t have time for arguments with a lowly maid who got privileged to be his mate. “A blind King who has so much pride and still, sees hims
“Why on earth will I need a mate? And the moon goddess had to be so cruel to give me the daughter of a traitor,” Derek mused to himself.Women were nothing but a tool for satisfaction and breeding, but he could have been given a more docile and simple female with a good family background, not a traitor’s daughter.“No way in hell will I allow my offspring's character to be questionable because of their mother's tainted blood,” he thought out loud.He thanked the goddess that nobody was in the room with him to hear his internal battle. He knew she was still locked up in the dry well, but did not send anyone to get her out. “Perhaps she's dead. The wolf’s bane in the well is still very effective.” He muttered, panting around the room. On a second thought, he dismissed the idea. His wolf would have known if she were still alive.Speaking of wolves, Atlas has been quiet ever since he rejected their mate publicly.“Surely, you can't grow grumpy on me. She is of the traitor's blood.” he w
Getting to Alpha Stephen was the only thing on Hulbert's mind as he walked through the lonely path. “Well, the highest he can do is shout, this mishap is not really my fault,” he grumbled as he sighted the den.“What is this thing I hear about a mate, Hulbert?” Alpha Stephen asked, not even bothering to exchange pleasantries.“I was quite astonished myself. She didn't even have a wolf. We never saw coming,” Hulbert responded.“I did not make you my right-hand man to be displeased, Hulbert. Or a fucking mishap like this to happen,” Alpha Stephen retorted, baring his teeth that had flesh stuck from the chunk of raw steak he was eating.“I'm sorry. I will rectify the issue as soon as possible. Right now, she's at the Supreme Alpha's den. We will strike during the next banquet, right before the next full moon.” He promised as his heart was pounding fast in his chest. He has never seen Stephen so upset before. “You should have killed her with her family then. I hate having hinders in my
“I'm doing your bidding, Atlas. Promise me it's just this once” Derek was greeted with silence. “You are so annoying, idiot.” He swore, angry that his wolf had gone silent on him since he rejected the traitor's daughter. All means to placate him proved useless, and he needed him during the meeting with other alphas. As he walked towards the room where the girl was kept, his pace slowed, and he wished he were anywhere but there.“Why on earth are you even not on the same page with me on this? She's not even marked by me. Won't she be better off our toy?” he asked Atlas, hoping that his wolf would respond, but he was greeted with pure silence again.Carly had a thousand thoughts running through her head. “Is he going to mark me? What made him change his damn mind?”She rushed towards the door to see if she can escape, but the door was shut firm. Glancing back and scanning the room, she spotted the

“What is the full moon like for the slaves, Mandy?” Carly asked as they cleaned the grand hall. “It's the only night we have to be free. We can roam the forests and howl as loud as we want. Lovers get to unite and bask under the moon. I'll tell you about mine later,” Mandy replied and added a silly wink.“Without restrictions?” Carly asked to be certain. “Yeah, without conditions.” Mandy nodded, scrubbing a stain on the wall that was proving too stubborn to leave. “I think this place needs painting. I'll fetch the person for repairs later.”“Uhm..... aren't they scared that we will run?” Carly asked, hoping that Mia’s threats were just empty threats to prevent her from running.“The vial works, Carly…. Don't even attempt to run, I've seen it firsthand, not the death part though, but it has the power to track us. What they did to the culprits, I wouldn't even wish it on my enemy,” Mandy said dejectedly, and the next second she had her eyes focused on Carly “Promise me you're not goin
“I smell sex all over you” Mandy said the moment Carly returned to their room. “Secret escapades…” she teased her then placed her hand on her chin “Hmmm.. Naughty girl. Well, i love naughty” Mandy finished with a side grin.“It's not that deep, honestly.” Carly tried to reassure her.“Come on girl. It's okay if you don't want to spill, I get it.” Mandy replied then after a pause she added “But be careful, if he finds out about it…”Her sentence was cut short by the hurried footsteps she heard approaching. Soon enough, Veronica barged in.“Where is that wench called Carly?” her voice was loud enough to wake the others up.Carly came out and flinched under Veronica's scrutiny.“So, it's you?” Veronica gave her a stink eye that portrayed the venom in her question.Carly’s back stiffened as she recognized her as the woman that Derek had kissed during the meeting earlier on.'Did they have a lover's spat?If she has an issue, she should take it up with the brute, not me.' Carly said inward
Derek’s wrath was so palpable that it could be felt miles away.“How dare he touch what's mine?” Atlas fumed, fighting for dominance. The urge to rip the man’s head off during the party was so strong that Derek did not even know when he left his throne and stormed in her direction. It was when he got there, he realized that he could not snap the man in two when the humans were watching. It would contradict the statement he made earlier on.He could only direct his rage at Carly. As soon as the party ended, he went in search of the man and found him on his way to the slave's quarters, trailing Carly.“Didn't your father tell you folklore stories when you were at a tender age?” Derek asked, barely reining in his anger.“Well, he did, Supreme Alpha,” the man replied and bowed to him. “Then I guess he did not mention you about a mouse who dares to eat from the king's plate?” Derek drawled.“He di…did” the man stuttered.“How dare you touch what's mine?” he growled, backing the man toward
The Grand hall was so large that it could fit a mini village comfortably. The skulls of wolves who had dared to go against the Alpha hung on the wall.Carly peeked at the throne room, wondering if he was there, seeing the throne empty, she zoned Zoya out and took a fill of the sights before her.The throne room was made of the bones of their enemies during the war between their clan and a group of rogues that wanted to take over. The armrest was a combination of different skulls and it was painted red.She glanced at the spot met for the Luna, it was at the footstool of the Alpha's throne, it was made of bones too but had soft cushions to soften the impact.“Oh how I wish things were different” Alexis muttered in her head.Carly took her eyes off the throne to observe the rest. She had always wondered how the Grand hall would look anytime she visited with her father and was left to play in the gardens. There was a wolf statue that had Red eyes similar to the colour she saw when Derek
The guards led her through a narrow hallway that seemed like it was for the servants.Soon, they got to a courtyard. The place was large enough to fit fifty people comfortably. The women there wore a uniform to distinguish themselves from the other maids and the male slaves were on a green tunic to clad only their groins.Zoya led her to a woman who seemed to be the head of them. “Put her to work!” she commanded, while giving Carly a dirty look.“What are you looking at? Follow me at once,” the woman told Carly, after giving her a thorough inspection.“I wonder if she ever gets to leave this place,” Carly whispered while glancing from the woman to the narrow door. She was somewhat chubby and short. They both entered a room and Carly halted, scanning everything in the room. It was quite ancient, but magnificent. They had painted it gray and there were sculptures that enhanced the room. The woman walked towards an adjoining room and came back with a vial. “Take it,” the woman spoke to C
