I sneered and asked, "What's the matter, Harvey? Are you having second thoughts now? It really doesn't sound like something you'd do! I thought we agreed to call it quits. If we're ending things, let's end it cleanly!"

Harvey pursed his lips and was about to speak when his phone suddenly rang. It was Tiana calling. Having hesitated for only three seconds, he let go of my hand and answered the call.

Tiana's voice was weak and strained as she said, "Help me, Harv! My asthma is acting up again! If you don't get here soon, I might end up dead at home!"

Harvey glanced at me, a troubled expression crossing his face.

I curled my lips in a mocking smile and said sarcastically, "Go ahead, then. It's a matter of life and death here!"

Tiana had pulled this trick countless times. And yet, Harvey still played along every single time. It was clearly a classic case of two people enabling each other's behaviors.
