Chapter 6

Caleb picked up the papers from the floor and flipped through them. His face darkened when he confirmed that I was serious about getting a divorce.

"Fine! Let's get a divorce. I shouldn't have married you in the first place anyway, Esther."

He quickly signed the papers.

I took the divorce papers from him. "I'll meet you tomorrow at 9:30 am to complete the divorce procedures."

As if he did not hear me, Caleb turned his eyes to Lexie. "Lexie, we'll take Bailey to the vet's. I'm sure he'll be fine. Don't worry."

Lexie smiled and agreed to his suggestion. Then, she flashed me a contemptuous grin as though flaunting her victory.

I could not be bothered with her cheap tricks. So, I turned around and closed the door behind me.

I thought about Sophia just as the door came to a shut.

Caleb was so worried about the cat's wound that he swiftly decided to take it to the veterinarian. Yet, he did not ask about Sophia, whom he had not seen for days, at all.
