*ASA TRINE*I could almost feel my heart stop at the realization of Cain’s presence in this building. Why was he here? Was he here to find me?Getting up instantly I ran to the section that was closest to me and hid behind a shelf hoping that the smell of these old musky books would cloak my original smell from him. There was a sudden stillness in the already quiet library at his arrival. Even the light thumps of stamps that the librarian had been putting on the newly applied books had stopped at Cain’s arrival. I could hear the tap of his feet approaching the librarian’s desk and then stop.“C-Can I help you with something, S-Sir?” The librarian asked her voice containing the shiver that had passed through her body at Cain’s towering figure over her timid body. I had reckoned that people were not scared of him anymore but maybe I was wrong.‘Or maybe he is sporting a pissed-off expression on his face, right now? You know we can feel the anger and disappointment straining our bond rig
*ASA TRINE*I think my face had permanently colored red. After what Cain had done yesterday the few people that were in the library had all sealed their mouths shut thanks to Cain but they still knew about it and every time any one of them passed by me they would give me a knowing smile.Even now as I am walking through the corridor of the hospital I can feel eyes on me from a young girl who is standing by the helpdesk with her grandmother. Turning back to glance at her our eyes meet and I find her color an equal shade of embarrassment as mine.Moving my gaze away from her I speed walk to my destination trying to forget about the thoughts that are making me feel weak in my knees again.‘Don’t go to the hospital Asa, please,’ Cain’s voice suddenly rang in my head making me scared for a second as I stopped in my path.‘How did you kn-?’ I started to ask but stopped mid-sentence knowing well enough that it was no use asking that question any longer. He seemed to have figured me inside ou
*ASA TRINE*“Move.”“No.”“I said move out of my way.”“Not until you tell me why?”“You know why.”“Then I can’t let you out of the room.”Cain stared at me as I glared back at him. He had been blocking the way to the exit of my room for the past twenty minutes to stop me from going outside.“You can’t keep me in here forever,” I said cocking a brow at him to challenge him openly but instead of taking my bait and riling up like he usually would he simply stared at me and then shrugging once he said, “We’ll see about that.”For some reason, my plan of making him get tired of this conversation was actually doing the opposite as I found myself getting more and more impatient to escape out of here with every passing second while he seemed to be playing around with me as he entertained himself.“You are enjoying this aren’t you?” I asked making a face at him and pulling up one of his shoulders he smiled as he didn’t say anything. When he noticed me waiting for an answer he chuckled and sa
*ASA TRINE* “Remember no funny business,” Cain said as he looked at me with a serious expression donned on his face. The chiseled jawline that glinted in the moonlight was set grimly in adamant command and sighing at the accuracy of his judgment I gave him no reply.I didn’t want to give him any direct empty promises.Looking at the beautiful marble dome shaped temple I marveled at the finite structure that had been a hub of hope and belief for hundreds of people. To this immaculate building there was one eyesore standing right in front of it like a dirty spot and going up to that guard Cain said, “You can take the rest of the time off. I’ll be here to guard the temple.”The guard who had been elected for this job of protection seemed in a dilemma as he glanced at me and then back at his feared leader. When Cain cocked an eyebrow at his delay he quickly nodded his head and looking down he was about ready to leave when I asked, “Is there anyone else visiting?”By the time I had bee
*ASA TRINE*The light at first blinded us making us wince and close our eyes. Immediately getting up from my lap Cain sat in front of me guarding me with his body to protect me from whatever it was that was happening around us.When the flash settled down a little I could see tiny specks of light slowly arise out of the crevices of the wall, out of the historic colors of the paintings, out of the beautiful strokes of the ebony inscriptions, and from the air itself. Standing up slowly we watched as the disarrayed specks floated around us and took the form of a swirl in the empty mass of space that the circular dome-shaped temple provided it.What were these lighted specks? Was it magic? A different being? Or was it the doing of the goddess herself?Looking over to her statue I found her completely covered by this magical mist and glow as if to prove her presence in this temple and in this pack and unconditionally I found both Cain and I lowering our necks in submission and respect to t
*ASA TRINE*“She is perfectly fine just tired. A good amount of sleep should be enough for her body to regain strength again,” The pack doctor said after inspecting me and feeling a lot better than before I moved to sit up when I was pushed back down by a heavy hand.Keeping me in place with the help of it Cain then thanked the doctor and said, “Are you sure that there aren’t any problems?”He was really worried and when he received a positive answer about my recovering strong body he heaved a sigh in relief and didn’t even bother to bid the doctor goodbye as he immediately gathered all his attention back on me.“Tell me if you need anything and you are not supposed to move out of this bed for the rest of your life,” he said with an almost serious tone in his voice that made me chuckle.“The only thing I need right now is you in my bed to cuddle with me,” I said moving to the side to make space for him.I was very tired and some closeness with my mate would be the most healing medicin
*THIRD PERSON POV*There was a sudden frigid stillness in the air that would have been perceived by anyone awake at this hour.A shadow loomed in the darkness of the room eating away at the warmth and homeliness that had been prevalent inside. This sudden change in the atmosphere although palpable was unnoticed by the occupants of the room who lay in their bed, cozily sleeping together.“So, she finally decided to greet my presence,” the shadow peering down at them mused to itself as it swiftly moved across the room and towards the open window through which the Moonlight was falling in.“Did you realize the strength I have been gaining over you?” he mocked the silver moon that stayed high and mighty in the blanket of stars unwavering by these comments of this monstrous figure.Although he said this he knew he wasn’t yet strong enough for till the moon shone in the sky no one would ever acknowledge him.“This is definitely not fair,” he muttered as if talking to a close acquaintance, “
*ASA TRINE*I hadn't slept a wink last night. My eyes were swollen and my throat was scratchy from the constant prayers I had been muttering all night long. My body still in that crouched position beside Cain was aching all over but even now that it was bright and safe outside I couldn’t seem to inch away from him.‘It’s alright now,’ Xara whispered in my head, she herself having been exhausted by staying on guard all night while howling in my head calling out to the goddess for help. What happened last night had been a horrible experience for me that I would never forget. I had never felt this helpless in my entire life when I could feel the demon taunting and playing with me but I could not do a thing about it. I was truly all alone last night and the realization that the demon could do such tricks struck me with the reality and seriousness of this situation.Suddenly I felt Cain stir in his sleep for the first time since I woke up. That gave me hope and when he turned around and hu
