**Glimpse of the past**
A young woman sprints through the dense dark forest, trying to get away from her abductors. Thorns and fallen branches tear at her pale flesh, and sharp stones gnaw at her bare feet, but she runs. Her royal robe gets caught in a protruding branch, and she falls. The sounds of her abductors draw closer, and she realizes it's only a matter of time before they find her.
She looks down tearfully at the new born who sleeps peacefully in her arms, oblivious to the events happening around him.
She is Luna Athena, Luna of Crescent moon pack, and the sleeping child in her arms is the outcome of an act of love between her and her human mate.
She knows that her child is in danger, as children birthed from Humans and animals are considered a taboo in werewolf custom. Her clenches painfully as she realizes what she must do to save her baby. She couldn't bear to see her innocent baby murdered, the way her mate was.
Placing her child under a large Oak tree, she wraps the fur blanket tightly around him as she prays to the moon goddess to protect him. She tearfully looks at her child one last time, before she turns on her heels and continues to run. It's not long before a huge force hits her small frame, sending her flying to the wet forest ground. She twists her arm in the process.
“You don't have anywhere to run to now, Luna” A masculine voice says, voice laced with mischief.Eyes glistening from unshed tears and anger, she turns to face her abductor.“No matter what you do, you will not be able to find my child.” She said confidently.
He laughs maniacally, his voice sending an echo round the forest.
“It doesn't matter if he is found or not. Don't you see? You have only made it easier for me by leaving him in the forest to die by vultures and other wild animals, as he should.” He said.
Pure rage wells up in her chest and she screams, channeling her powers to her voice. But she barely makes an impact, as she is very weak due to childbirth. She falls to her knees and sob uncontrollably.
“Nothing would happen to him…. nothing” she says between sobs.
“Oh Athena, you should have accepted my proposal in the first place. I would we'd you and take good care of you. Then none of this would've happened. But what did you do? you decide to go after a mere human.” He says, his voice laced with so much hatred.
“And then you decided to kill him?” Athena says, heart clenching in sorrow.
“He never would've survived being an Alpha anyway. Humans are weak, pathetic beings. They do not deserve to be with wolves. I only did him a favor.” He said, grinning mischievously. Athena's heart breaks all over again from agony.
“You're vile” Athena teethed. If looks could kill, he would be 50 feet under the ground already.
Her abductor laughs again.
“Too bad, your glare does not hold any meaning now, you're weak from childbirth.” He mocks.
“But we can forget any of this ever happened. You can come back with me to the palace. We can get married, and I become the Alpha of Crescent moon. Humans will continue to remain a thing of the past.”
Even in her state of vulnerability, Athena tries to let out a loud chuckle, angering him further.
“I would rather die a thousand deaths than spend even a fraction of a lifetime with you. And I can never let a monster such as you rule as Alpha over Crescent moon” She said, making sure to lace every word with unfiltered hatred.
“Have it your way, Luna” he says, sending her flying again. She hits a large tree trunk and tumbles down, and breaking her spine. She cries out in pain.
“And do not worry. I'll make sure your little boy in the palace grows up believing you chose to run away with a human rather than stay back for him” He says, mischief coating his face.
Athena's eyes welled up upon hearing this.
“My son is brave. I've trained him to be strong and independent. He will rule the Crescent moon pack as a strong Alpha, and he will survive without me” Athena says.
“But you won't be there to see your little one grow miserable for the rest of his life.” He says and moves forward, plunging a knife directly into Athena's chest. Athena gasps as blood pours out of her mouth and chest from the knife wound “Be rest assured your little boy will remain unhappy, and will die a lonely death. As for humans, they will remain what they've always been, weak, pathetic and useless.” He proclaims.
Tears fall from her eyes and she slowly dies. “That's where you're wrong.” Athena says and her eyes glow an icy blue shade, taking him by surprise “I, Luna Athena, Luna Queen of Crescent moon, make this prophecy. The Crescent moon will be ruled again by the bond of a human and a wolf. And humans and wolves will live in harmony side by side….” She stares directly into the eyes of her abductor “....and you will die by the hand of those you call weak and pathetic. You will die by the hands of a human.” And she gives up the ghost.
***Astrid***I'm running. The jagged twigs tugged sharply at my flesh, drawing blood. My chest and lungs burned severely, but I couldn't stop, because they're behind me. Wolves. The large, enormous monsters, six or seven of them, were hot on my tail. A pack of scary-looking wolves. Their fangs dripped with saliva as their bloodshot eyes locked on me, like predators on prey. Dread filled me up. I increased my pace, but the universe was against me. I tripped forcefully to the ground and felt an intense, blinding pain as one of them gripped my left leg.A loud scream tore out of me, almost blinding my vision. Looking up, I saw the rest of the wolves close in on me.I let out a gasp as I woke up. My eyes darted around frantically, but there were no wolves in sight, just the cold, damp stone walls of my cell closing in. Iron bars separated me from the dim corridor beyond, and the air stank of mildew and old blood. Chains rattled faintly when I shifted on the thin straw pallet
***Atlas*** Sweat dripped from my face as I drove another brutal hook into the soldier’s guard. The impact jarred up my arm, painful, but satisfying in a way nothing else had been lately. The young soldier staggered back a step, boots scraping against the training mat, but he didn’t go down. Good. I needed the resistance. “Again,” I growled. He reset his stance, jaw tight, eyes wary but determined. I feinted left, then slammed a right cross hit that clipped his shoulder pad hard enough to make him grunt. The pack needed warriors who could take punishment, not crumple like paper. I'd always made it a ritual to spar with every new recruit, so I can test their strength and give corrections where necessary. I lunged again, faster this time, forcing the soldier to block desperately. His arms buckled under the force, and he slid a few feets away. “Enough,” Kyle called from the side of the mat, arms crossed. He’d been watching the whole session, silent until now. I stepped back, chest
***Astrid*** My heart felt like it was going to explode. That man was so close to me, his cinnamon-y scent invading my head space. I hated how he affected my thoughts. I'm supposed to hate him, not gush over him. It's not my fault that the universe decided to bless that monster in every possible way. Now that my task for the day is suspended, I quickly headed back to my room. But I needed to speak with Ophelia first. I headed straight for her room, but she wasn't there. I headed back to the kitchen, she probably was still with Sasha and her minions. Suddenly, some soldiers trooped in. “A human maid was just found dead in the West side of the forest. Everyone is advised to avoid that area, as the murderer is yet to be found.” What? “Ophelia. Where is she? You were the last person with her.” I asked Sasha. Her face was as white as a ghost, with dried tears stuck to her cheeks. A couple red stains were on her apron. Blood. “I…we all went outside for some fresh air, and she was
***Astrid*** The next morning, I woke up by the door. I must have slept off, after crying my eyes out last night. I stared out the only window in my room. The sun was already rising, casting a dim orange glow as it seeped into my room. Slowly, last night's events flooded into my mind. The Alpha had almost killed me. I don't know what it was that he did, but the memory still sends a chill down my spine. I'll need to steer clear from him, if I needed to survive. Though staying away from him is going to be near impossible, since he decided to make me his personal cleaning maid. Thankfully, the sun was still rising, meaning I still had time to prepare. Even though my body strongly disagreed with me, I got up, quickly washed my body and hair, then changed into my uniform. I stared at my form in the mirror, giving myself one last reassurance. “You can do this.” I said out loud to myself. I tied my brown hair up in a messy bun, looking at myself one last time, before bolting out in
