Chapter 5
Alessia's pov “Get your thunder thighs moving already.’’ Thompson hushed, irritated by my stillness. “What have you done!’’ I cussed at him. The thoughts of facing the Lycan king again lunged my heart, especially at the sudden occurrence. I was not prepared for this. “You really believe I'll let this opportunity of getting in touch with the Lycan king slide off just because you feel uncomfortable with it?’’ The deep pang of disbelief in his voice made me realise how foolish it was of me to actually think he'd decline the Lycan king's request for me. It hurts. It hurts that he didn't care about my opinions at all. But that wasn't just the case right now. “Then you should have taken Annalise with you instead. Or my opinion still doesn't matter even if its also what she wants?’’ I yelled, mist prickling my eyes. Thompson strided stiffly to stand before me, peering into my eyes with such cold gaze that left me unsurprised at the coldness of his voice following. “This is beyond just any of us. This is about what the Lycan king demands.’’ He spelt out. “Now quit the pettifog and get dressed immediately. We can't make lateness our first impression.’’ With a light snort, Thompson stormed out angrily. I drop on the bed, fatigue draining my whole as my mind reeled on what look to put up in the presence of the Lycan king. Do I just act like I've never met him? Unlike when he invited us over to his table at the event, this was a private home dinner…. I was knocked off my thoughts by the sound at the door. A lady dressed in uniforms stepped in with a regarding bow. “I'm here to help you dress, my lady.’’ I marvelled at the sight of my own image in the mirror. The purple cotton dress clung effortlessly to my body, accentuating my heavily fleshy features. Melanie finished with tying the back straps and heat rushed to my cheeks as I stood to take in the fitness of the dress. “I can't wear this.’’ Melanie's smiles faded immediately to a baffled look as she searched for the wrong in the dress that only me seemed to see. My cleavages popped up unhindered, thanks to the single arm thin strap. My other shoulder was left bare. The whole of my back was literally exposed through the knotted straps, and a long slit to my mid-thigh. On a normal day, I wouldn't feel this exposed. But having to be in the presence of the Lycan kind dressed like this was on another level. “The dress is a perfect ten, my lady.’’ Melanie voiced the obvious thought in her mind after an unsuccessful attempt to reason with me. “Isn't there something else I can wear? Something probably less exposing?’’ I asked, hiding my embarrassment at the fact that the dress just felt too exposing for me. Melanie overcame her surprised and tried to speak, but we were interrupted as the door swung open to reveal Thompson's blazing gaze. “What the heck are you still waiting for’’ His eyes scanned me simultaneously, and I hoped he would find the dress unapproving. But, “Get over here immediately, the Lycan king can't get to the dining room before us.’’ He roared. Sucking my bottom lip in, I tailed behind Thompson leading the way to the dining area. Opposed to my expectation, it was a rather small table for about six occupants. My heart skipped at the realisation. Did the lycan king do this on purpose to have a closer access to me? Reject him. The thought snagged my mind. I took it up immediately. That is literally all there is to do. If not for Thompson, then for Adrian. Once the chance presents itself, I won't hesitate to spell out the rejection vows to his face. With my new found resolution, I confidently took my seat beside Thompson, barely settling down when the announcement rang. “The Lycan is here.’’ My pulse catapulted. Did i say confidence? I lost it as his sandalwood scent floated into my nostrils. Thompson stuck our arms immediately, putting up a bright smile that I rearly get to see despite sharing roof with him for years. “Good morning, my king.’’ He bowed. I was too lost in my growing emotions that it left Thompson with the only option of yanking my arm hard. ‘‘G-Good morning...’’ My voice trailed off. I could feel the Lycan's eyes all over me even without a single glance at him. The heat of his stare left me utterly anxious. Thompson let out an awkward chuckle. “Please pardon her, my king. She's just a bit flustered since I didn't inform her early enough about our visit.’’ He said, and I wished I could dab a fist to his nose. “It's okay. You may have your seats.’’ Merely the sound of the Lycan's voice got my body hairs poking out. I could still vividly recall his sexy whispers to me that night. Was it just my tipsy state or he really sounded so sexy that night? “Seat!’’ Thompson snapped silently beside me, his eyes gleaming with annoyance and disappointment at my total disorder. This was it, I'll be getting an earful from him afterwards. Breakfast was quiet, and I appreciated it. But I chocked on my steak when my eyes caught the Lycan's gaze as I tried reaching for my water. I could swear that he stood immediately to pour out some water for me, but Thompson was faster. Playing a gentleman to get the Lycan's favour! “Are you okay?’’ This was the Lycan asking. It took my life to ignore his gaze at this point. “I'm fine.’’ I made my response short as possible. Focusing back on my steak, too quickly to be called natural. “I'm sorry if my invitation has cost you both any inconveniences.’’ The Lycan started. “Not at all, we're fine with it.’’ Thompson responded immediately, his smiles evident from his tone. “It doesn't seem like your wife is.’’ The Lycan said. My eyes subconsciously snagged his in surprise, only to meet his unwavering gaze boring holes into my skin. I couldn't keep up with it. For how long would I have to deal with this? “Alessia?’’ Thompson's voice had this sternness etched in it that expressed his utter displeasure in my conduct. “Please ignore me, my King.’’ I quickly said, clutching my fork, as if to transfer my uneasiness into it. “It's Cyril. Call me Cyril.’’ He directed at me.Chapter 6Lycan Cyril’s povSilence befall the haze as the weight of my command sank in. Her beautiful eyes bulged with something like fear as she regarded Thompson who equally couldn't seem to place my demand. It wasn't proper. I shouldn't have passed such order. How couldn't I control myself when it came to her? Staring at her all through breakfast was enough to stir up suspicions from anyone already. “Uh.. You mean we can….’’ “Forget it. I didn't mean it that way.’’ I dismissed immediately. Thankfully, Thomson didn't take it that I was referring to Alessia alone.Alessia looked away disappointedly, and I made a conviction to control my stare from now on. Clearly, she didn't want Thompson to find out about our connection. At least not yet. And as much as it stings badly, I have to keep up with it. “I feel really honoured to have been recognised by you. Tell me whatever it is you need me to do, and I promise to carry it out with immediate effect and to the best of your satisfacti
Chapter 7Alessia's povMy heart skipped at Thompson's approaching footsteps, and I stood up at once. He stepped in, dropping the phone from his ear after about an hour of talking with Annalise outside.I knew what to expect of his mean gaze. I messed up. That was the thought in his head. ‘‘Just what exactly is your problem?’’ He had it stuffed up in him, his annoyance. “You don't think I also deserve an apology for bringing me here without my consent?’’ I shot back calmly. “Was your consent necessary?” He scoffed. “I did what was needed to get things done and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.’’ The way he usually spoke. The manner he always used with me. It hurts so bad that I loved this man despite his mistreatment towards me. I have only ever loved him but he completely despised me. “Where did I ever wrong you, Thompson? I've done everything possible to prove my love for you but why won't you ever regard my efforts?’’ My voice broke, almost croaking out my words. ‘‘
Chapter 8Lycan Cyril povShe was the least person I expected to see here. Her red hair was one I could recognise even in my sleep, and as she turned around, it was confirmed. She turned white instantly. The feeling was mutual. She equally didn't expect me here. I watched her frozen gaze trace my hair with the water droplets streaming down my exposed chest. I had just showered after a swim. I was in an army designed shorts that barely covered my thighs in fact. I couldn't take my eyes off her either, she looked totally hot in the deep blue swimsuit that effortlessly boasted her V. It took me the whole year of my training to hold back Finn's nonstop growls that ogled her. She was helpless. Her helplessness kept leaving me doubts about her disabled wolf. If she couldn't feel the mate pull as much as I did, then why was she always this helpless at my mercy? She staggered a few steps backwards, her throat throbbing as her eyes wandered over me.I raked my fingers into my hair in an a
Chapter 9Alessia's pov “I'm really sorry my lady. I didn't mean to barge in.’’ Melanie apologised for the upteempth time. Didn't she get it? I was most grateful for her barge in. I dreaded imagining what would have happened if she hadn't stepped in. “I need only one thing from you, Melanie.’’ I voiced, hoping my eyes did the pleading enough. She lifted her face to meet my gaze, her palms tucked anxiously in front of her. “Not a word of this should get out. What you saw back there was a silly misunderstanding.’’ I pleaded. Thompson must not hear of it, not even a fleeting rumor.‘‘I promise.’’ Melanie didn't hesitate to say. I understood her fright. Their almighty Lycan king was involved, so her fear was justified. “Leave. Find my husband, tell him I need to see him.’’ I instructed, watching her leave before going for my phone on the nightstand. I dialed the home line, muttering prayers in my heart that Adrian picks it up. The line connected. ‘‘Adrian?’’“Mom Alessia!’’ Liah
Chapter 10Alessia's povHad he been eavesdropping? As much as I'd have loved to bash and debase him for eavesdropping, shame didn't permit a move from me. I raced as fast as my legs could take me into the bedroom for refuge. I didn't do it often. But when I did, it took hours of nonstop tears before I felt relieved.I took a long bath, passed on lunch and retired into a deep slumber. I woke up to a shadow figure sitting at the edge of the bed, and I almost jumped out of my body. “You're up.’’ His familiar voice made me recognise him immediately. Thompson? I was confused. What was he doing here, addressing me in such a soft tone? Groggily, I pulled the duvet over my frame whilst anticipating whatever he had to say. “You're going back to sleep?’’ Thompson mistook my action. ‘‘Do you have something to say to me?’’ My voice was barely above whispers, an effect of my rebounding system. “Pack up. We're leaving tomorrow.” My ears definitely mistook him. He didn't just say that. “L
Chapter 11Alessia's pov The atmosphere is electric. The air is alive with the pulsating beat of music, the vibrant chatter of guests, and the clinking of glasses as people mingle and toast to a great time. The hall is aglow with a kaleidoscope of colors, from the flashing lights of the dance floor to the warm glow of twinkling decorations. The scent of deliciously prepared small chops wafted through the air, tempting the taste buds of whoever was yet to receive his/her portion. A sense of excitement and anticipation, the feeling of community and connection among the exquisitely dressed guests, and a general sense of joy and revelry boated the celebration aura. It was a few hours to day dark. The party that was supposed to take place in the evening was now being drawn to nighttime since guests were still arriving. To my utter dismay, Thompson had resolutely sent the invitation message to Lycan Cyril and without a doubt, he honoured the request. Exactly how I ended up cladded in a
Chapter 12Alessia's pov Goosebumps propped over my skin. His words, but mostly his actions got me irreversibly blown. I realised it now. It wasn't a deva ju. He had done the same thing the first night we crossed paths, and he had mentioned about my tattoo too. I had been too tipsy to make out reasonable meanings of anything he said that night. It was all clear now.I'd bared this mysterious moon carving on my back from my birth . According to my parents, the Alpha and Luna of our pack back then, they had consulted every witch and seer from far and near to unravel the misery behind the unfamiliar strange mark. But every attempt was futile.I recalled some memories from my childhood when they often took me to places for the same purpose. After getting nothing despite the dishevel, my parents had tagged it a unique mark and passed discreet warnings to me against displaying it carelessly to the public. I was completely gobsmacked to hear Lycan Cyril mention it like it was some casua
Chapter 13Alessia's pov “What is this?” Chills surged through my spines as I read the content. “An appeal to the lycan kind with what condition?’’ My lips trembled, my heart almost leaping out of my mouth as I tear my gaze from the sheet to Eliza. She picked her cup from the rim, swirling gently. “He passed it to me this morning. I guess the Lycan's honour to the birthday celebration invite sparked a nut in his head.’’ She chuckled.I wasn't finding this funny at all. How dare Thompson try to move faster than his shadow! Simply sharing a good relationship with lycan Cyril wasn't enough for him, he wanted to build a bond between them now?‘‘Why does he have to pick me for it, aren't there other ways he could have gone about it?’’ I sparked, maybe a bit too much to be called normal, judging from the amused stare Eliza threw at me. “I-I'm just saying… This is going a bit too far. I'm the Luna of our pack, I can't leave for such redundant duties just like that. Besides, he hasn't even
Chapter 61Alessia's pov An eerie silence roamed the space outside after the hurrying footsteps of guards left. A guard had rushed in moments ago to call the staged guard by the door of the dungeon. It sounded really urgent; the reason he had been called out of duty. But I couldn't make out what the guard reported through the thick door, besides I felt too weak to even lift a hand. Another sharp sting of hunger plunged at the top of my stomach, leaving a squeaking yelp off my lips as I grabbed the spot in a thought squeeze. Even though I guessed it couldn't be about food, I kept praying the guard had left to get me something to eat. I might starve to death if I get nothing to eat tonight. Telling what time of the day it was seemed in fact impossible, since it always remained pitch back in here. This was pure torture. It's now obvious that Thompson wants me dead. What was I thinking, wanting to stay with him despite everything he's done to me? He had shown me countless times how
Chapter 60CYRIL’S POV “He's crazy.’’ Lance remarked, leaving a sigh off Alan's lips.‘‘I'll give him just until two days time to come around.’’ I said calmly.“But why are you so calm about it, this is so not your type thing to do.’’ Lance complained. There must be something I was missing on. Ever since the topic with Thompson, Lance has been unusually annoyed. He swore and cussed under his breath all through the call with Thompson; we had been in a meeting when his call came in. “Do you have a beef with him before now or something?’’ Alan voiced just the exact question on the tip of my tongue. Lance scoffed. “A beef? I'll rather go hiking on the highest mountain in the city.’’“That two days waiting period, you know what it's called?’’ I let a smirk curved up on my lips. Seeing their blank faces, I went on. “Reflecting period. I doubt there's anyone who wouldn't need that. During this time, he gets to decide what plan of action might be best for him.’’ I relaxed back on my cha
Chapter 59Thompson's povI stormed to the balcony for some air, tightening my fists on the railings. I saw Regal's car drive in and he stepped out to meet my gaze.I nodded at him to come on upstairs.“Greetings, Alpha.’’ He walked in.‘‘Is there a problem?’’ I didn't care much about the coldness in my tone, not bothering to spare a glance at him.“The lycans came.’’ He blurted out.I turned immediately to face him, my anger melting away for a moment.“I think they were on a visit, but we didn't allow them entry.’’ He stated reassuringly. Was that supposed to be reassuring news?“You blocked them?’’ I asked, amused and a bit apprehensive.I understood that I asked them to do it, but I realised I wasn't cut out for reality.“We blocked the borders like you instructed and strictly prevented them from coming in. They returned home following the orders of the lycan king.’’“Their king was with then?’’ I asked again in amusement, a strong stroke crossing down my abdomen.‘‘Yes, Alpha. Is
Chapter 58Thompson's povI listened calmly as the line rang, holding my fingers in a fist. I was starting to believe what Annalise claimed now that Emelda was refusing to take my calls.“How dare that bloody old witch!’’ I gritted, bringing the phone to my face after another unsuccessful attempt to get her on the line.A message popped up on the screen, and my heart skipped a beat when I saw Cyril’s name on top. I hated that he managed to steal a skip from my heart.I strolled down to the cellar for a drink, aware of the implications Cyril’s message could likely bring about.Settling down before the table with my index and middle fingers caging the tiny bottom of my wine glass, I tapped on my message box. I read through with a straight face, he demanded a reason for my absence at his anniversary ceremony as well as an intended visit to Silverstone pack this evening.A chuckle fell off my lips. Was he dumb? Couldn't he read the writings on the wall?Without much thought, I dialed his
Chapter 57Alessia's pov Tears blinded my vision, I couldn't recognise the routes he took until he tugged me down the stairs to the basement. I heard him punch some codes on the only door that uses a code down here. The dungeon. “No!’’ I grabbed his hand as he pulled my face up. “No please, don't do this Thompson.’’I couldn't contain the coldness of his face. It forced me into believing he had his mind made up and indeed he did. He flung me into the darkness ignoring my pleads, and slammed the door shut before I even landed on the floor. Dust wafted into my nostrils. Smelly dusts that dug deep coughs from my throat. I staggered to my feets and rushed back to the door. “Let me out.’’ I banged, horribly terrified by the consuming darkness. I couldn't even see my own hands. “Thompson let me out of here, please!!’’ I screamed, my heart thrashing with horror at the scary silence that responded to my voice.Did he leave already? He was really leaving me in here?“Thomp….’’ I trailed
Chapter 56Thompson's povI stopped abruptly on my track, Alessia's unmissable scent thick in the air. There was no doubt she was close by. I marched into the living room, eye-searching thoroughly for her without any success. Rolling my eyes, I proceeded into the masters bedroom and there was Annalise seated on the bed. She stood immediately upon my entrance. “Hey. Are you okay?’’ She approached me slowly. “Did you do it?’’ I had it tied on my tongue tip all night, waiting impatiently to spit it to her. The least I wanted was to hear a lie from her. She threw her gaze downwards, shaking her head in something like disbelief. “Why do y'all ask me that? I could contain it when Alessia threw it at me but you too?’’“Give me a yes or no, Annalise.’’ I snapped, totally out of mood for sick dramas. “Of course I didn't do it. You of all people should know what I'm capable of, we've lived together for four years now.’’ A tear slipped off her eye. I hated the feeling. That I could clea
Chapter 55Alessia's pov “W–what?’’ I crouched, my throat running unnaturally dry. “You heard me right. Get your adulterous ass up and return with him now.’’ Thompson glared, uncared with the manner he addressed me despite Regal's presence. I lost my demeanor, fixing my shameful gaze on the tiled floor. “I-I can't…” I mumbled out. “Will you rather I teach you a goddamned lesson right here?’’ Thompson fizzled, rushing to get me.“Not here, Alpha, please.’’ Regal caught him just in time while I'd sprawled on my feets, alarmed. “Get out of this place immediately, smelly dirty thing.’’ Thompson barked. I bolted out instantly, my heart heavy against my chest with tears blinding my vision.I bumped into a few people but couldn't care less until I got to the car. I crouched down by the darker side which faced away from the lights of the hospital, weeping my heart out. “That's enough, Luna. Please.’’ Regal said for the upteemth time, running his palm gently on my back.I couldn't cont
Chapter 54Alessia's povI helped Regal in offloading our stuff and throlled mine to my bedroom. Stepping into the bedroom, I noticed someone on the floor and immediately recognised it to be Adrian. He didn't look like he was in a good shape, the awkward position he laid sent my body hairs poking out on my skin. “Adrian?’’ I called out to him repeatedly, but he wouldn't bulge. I forced my heels down to where he laid, and all light left my vision when I saw froth flowing from his mouth. I screamed madly, my heart bursting against my chest, leaving me nauseated at the sight. “Adrian! Adrian!!’’ I shook him, and he let out a breathless gag. I swung him up in my arms, dashed out of the room and ran down the stairs like a crazy woman. No, I'd actually gone crazy!“Regal!!’’ I screamed my lungs out. “What is it?’’ Thompson yelled into the haze, rushing out to check on the situation. Regal appeared simultaneously. All I cared about right now was getting Adrian to the hospital as soon
Chapter 53Thompson's povMy blood boiled. My veins flamed with smokes, burning my insides. I badly want to shove a claw into the Lycan's idiotic face. It didn't faze me so much to hear Alessia address him by his first name. So many times she had attempted it in my presence. I wasn't so shocked. I knew something like this was on between them. I only tried to believe it was Alessia throwing herself on the Lycan. Call it selfish or whatever, I couldn't afford to bear a grudge towards the Lycan king considering the great advantages I earned from him. If he had remained quiet and just let me take Alessia away, we'd have been fine. Everything would have been okay even though I saw him kiss her back with so much enthusiasm. And it wasn't too late either. He could stop the fuss and not test my patience any further. But Alessia was definitely dying tonight. “Ain't you curious, Thompson?’’ He creased a brow, tilting his head as if to get a clearer access to read me. Why did my heart drea
