Chapter 9
Alessia's pov “I'm really sorry my lady. I didn't mean to barge in.’’ Melanie apologised for the upteempth time. Didn't she get it? I was most grateful for her barge in. I dreaded imagining what would have happened if she hadn't stepped in. “I need only one thing from you, Melanie.’’ I voiced, hoping my eyes did the pleading enough. She lifted her face to meet my gaze, her palms tucked anxiously in front of her. “Not a word of this should get out. What you saw back there was a silly misunderstanding.’’ I pleaded. Thompson must not hear of it, not even a fleeting rumor. ‘‘I promise.’’ Melanie didn't hesitate to say. I understood her fright. Their almighty Lycan king was involved, so her fear was justified. “Leave. Find my husband, tell him I need to see him.’’ I instructed, watching her leave before going for my phone on the nightstand. I dialed the home line, muttering prayers in my heart that Adrian picks it up. The line connected. ‘‘Adrian?’’ “Mom Alessia!’’ Liah squealed into the phone. I sighed silently in disappointment, forcing a smile. “How are you doing princess?” “I'm great. I miss you and dad so much.” I could imagine her lips pouting. ‘‘We’ll be back soon okay? Is Adrian close?’’ I was slightly impatient. First, I needed to be sure my boy was doing fine without me by his side. And I needed to hear his voice to stop this craziness, this addictive heat that emanated from the Lycan’s influence. I needed to remind myself that I had a son I loved so much and needed to stay by his side. I couldn't deflate that for anything. “Adrian! Adrian!!’’ Liah yelled in the background. ‘‘Mom Alessia is on the phone.’’ I heard Adrian's stomping footsteps as he raced to get the phone, it was typical to my thumping pulse in Lycan Cyril’s arms moments ago. I shook off the thoughts of him. The thoughts of him that wouldn't stop sipping into my mind. ‘‘Mom?’’ Adrian's voice tuned into the line, melting my heart instantly. ‘‘My baby. How are you doing?’’ “Not good.’’ Adrian answered, and I strangely wasn't surprised by it. I was completely dispirited instantly. All his life, or at least most of the time, he's had me around. Even if I left for a function with Thompson, the most we'd return was the next morning while the children were still asleep. ‘‘I'm sorry I didn't call until now. Mommy has been quite busy, okay?’’ My heart weighed. I couldn't imagine what he was going through in Annalise's hands with everyone absent. She never liked him. She felt Thompson loved him more because he was the apparent heir. ‘‘When are you returning home?’’ The dullness in Adrian's voice was what got my heart aching the most. I sighed, afraid to disappoint him. “We won't take long, I promise. I'll consult with your dad later and tell you immediately okay?’’ “So you won't be returning tonight.’’ He mumbled disappointedly. It was like a thousand pricks in my heart. “C'mon baby, be strong for mummy please.’’ Maybe if I was a bit bolder with my tone, he would have cropped some courage from it. I failed. “Tell me, is Annalise really bad to you? Have you had a bath yet, did she feed you?’’ My heart raced as I anticipated his response. “I'm fine…’’ He muttered. I instantly concluded that he meant the reverse. “I'll call you back. I need to see your dad now.’’ I disconnected the call and raced to find Thompson. I ran into Melanie on the way and she apologised for taking too long, claiming she had searched and searched before she found Thompson. Thanks to her undeterred efforts, I got Thompson's location without additional stress. “I don't get it. Why exactly are we here?’’ I cussed. War waged in me at the mere thoughts of Annalise's hands on Adrian. “What's your problem this time?’’ Thompson heaved, dropping his phone beside a glass of liquor on the small luxurious table before him. He was busy relaxing in the longue with no reasonable thoughts in his mind while I battled vigorously with the daring circumstances this place posed before me. If he would be so comfortable being on his own then why bring me along? “I need to return home. I can't stay here any longer.’’ I yelled. It was a demand and not a request this time. Disbelief flashed in his eyes as he gazed up at the, peeling off his arms from where they laid across the plush cushion. I subconsciously stepped back, watching him stand to tower above me. ‘‘What was that, you fucking yell at me?’’ His eyes darkened, cheesed off. If there was one thing he detested, it was me yelling at it. It deflated his ego. What better way to handle this than going humble? “Please let me go. Adrian is unwell.’’ I tried reaching for his arms, but he ducked my grip. ‘‘Adrian is fine. I spoke with him last night.’’ “He's totally not fine.’’ I sniffled. Helpless. “Then the nanny will take care of it. I employed a sitter to take care of things in your absence so stop the unnecessary worries.’’ He scoffed, turning away from me to reclaim his position on the cushion. He had caught me in an inescapable route. How else do I try to convince him that Adrian's was only a part of the numerous reasons I couldn't be here in this mansion? ‘‘I feel cold and alone having the whole room to myself at night.’’ I mumbled. Unsure if this was the right moment to bring up that topic of discussion. Thompson took his glass, sipping some content. “Stay with me tonight.’’ Tears pricked my eyes. His neglect was thrashing to my soul. “And if you can't withstand me, just send me back to Silverstone pack.’’ ‘‘You don't give me conditions…’’ “I'm making a request not a condition.’’ I snapped. My heart was slowly failing to clamp my emotions. “I'm the one to take such decisions. You are in no position to make me do it.” He picked up his phone, like I was some minnow to be ignored. “Can you fucking regard me for once, Thompson!’’ I broke down, my fingers digging into my palms as I tried to hold my frame from collapsing. “Stop making a fuse, I didn't ask you to be so desperate. You wanted this marriage not me.’’ He hissed, returning to his phone. I dashed out. Intending to hide my pain, my utter disappointment and failure, from the face of the world. I was forced to a halt when I caught Lycan Cyril by the door, his eyes keen with displeasure.Chapter 10Alessia's povHad he been eavesdropping? As much as I'd have loved to bash and debase him for eavesdropping, shame didn't permit a move from me. I raced as fast as my legs could take me into the bedroom for refuge. I didn't do it often. But when I did, it took hours of nonstop tears before I felt relieved.I took a long bath, passed on lunch and retired into a deep slumber. I woke up to a shadow figure sitting at the edge of the bed, and I almost jumped out of my body. “You're up.’’ His familiar voice made me recognise him immediately. Thompson? I was confused. What was he doing here, addressing me in such a soft tone? Groggily, I pulled the duvet over my frame whilst anticipating whatever he had to say. “You're going back to sleep?’’ Thompson mistook my action. ‘‘Do you have something to say to me?’’ My voice was barely above whispers, an effect of my rebounding system. “Pack up. We're leaving tomorrow.” My ears definitely mistook him. He didn't just say that. “L
Chapter 11Alessia's pov The atmosphere is electric. The air is alive with the pulsating beat of music, the vibrant chatter of guests, and the clinking of glasses as people mingle and toast to a great time. The hall is aglow with a kaleidoscope of colors, from the flashing lights of the dance floor to the warm glow of twinkling decorations. The scent of deliciously prepared small chops wafted through the air, tempting the taste buds of whoever was yet to receive his/her portion. A sense of excitement and anticipation, the feeling of community and connection among the exquisitely dressed guests, and a general sense of joy and revelry boated the celebration aura. It was a few hours to day dark. The party that was supposed to take place in the evening was now being drawn to nighttime since guests were still arriving. To my utter dismay, Thompson had resolutely sent the invitation message to Lycan Cyril and without a doubt, he honoured the request. Exactly how I ended up cladded in a

Chapter 13Alessia's pov “What is this?” Chills surged through my spines as I read the content. “An appeal to the lycan kind with what condition?’’ My lips trembled, my heart almost leaping out of my mouth as I tear my gaze from the sheet to Eliza. She picked her cup from the rim, swirling gently. “He passed it to me this morning. I guess the Lycan's honour to the birthday celebration invite sparked a nut in his head.’’ She chuckled.I wasn't finding this funny at all. How dare Thompson try to move faster than his shadow! Simply sharing a good relationship with lycan Cyril wasn't enough for him, he wanted to build a bond between them now?‘‘Why does he have to pick me for it, aren't there other ways he could have gone about it?’’ I sparked, maybe a bit too much to be called normal, judging from the amused stare Eliza threw at me. “I-I'm just saying… This is going a bit too far. I'm the Luna of our pack, I can't leave for such redundant duties just like that. Besides, he hasn't even

On a second thought, I retracted and proceeded quietly to my seat.I shared a few discussions with Eliza after lunch and politely shared my intention to pass on dinner. Though it was okay if I had to make the dishes. Well, Eliza declined and insisted on preparing dinner instead since I wouldn't be having the meals. I appreciated that. I coiled on my bed, sliding through some news reports on my phone. Eliza had also promised to tuck the kids to bed tonight. She usually enjoyed their company, a part of her commitment being due to the fact that she seeked children. She had been married to her husband for about eight years. According to past news, she gave birth once but it was premature and unfortunately they lost it. Ever since, she hadn't conceived again. An almost inaudible knock came on my door and it creaked open. I dropped my phone, seating up unsurely a
Chapter OneALESSIA'S POV"Do you imagine I'm happy tagging this hog along every time?" Thompson cocked his chin in my direction like I was some stomp in the pasture. "That doesn't change the fact that Alessia gets to attend these functions as your wife while I stay home all night waiting for you to come back." A sly smile twitched on my lips, Annalise and my husband had their row about the grand marriage anniversary of the southern territories Alpha and his Luna. Annalise was Thompson's mate while I was his wife. "What the hell is funny?" Thompson took giant strides to where I stood by the refrigerator. The smiles on my face instantly faded. I knew how this always went. Thompson came awkwardly closer to me, towering before me, trapping me against the refrigerator and his rigid chest. His large palm cupped my chin tilting my head up so our gazes could fuse. "Let me make this clear to you, just because I have to stick to the goddamn law and have you attend these functions with me
Chapter TwoALESSIA'S POVAll my teenage life, I'd prayed the goddess matched me with Thompson, when that didn't happen, our fathers took the initiative to wed us. Making my dreams of spending the rest of my life with Thompson come true. But it all turned into a nightmare. "Congratulations, Alpha Crestwood!" Thompson shook hands with the white haired Alpha before us while I hugged his Luna with a radiant smile on my face. Thompson led me into the vast and exquisitely decorated hall. His face suggests I must've done something wrong. What now?"Could you fuckin' stop smiling?" He growled beside me. "You look like a freak."The smiles dissolved. Upsetting him was the least we wanted, not before the gazes of all the important people in the room. He took out two champagne flutes from the tray a steward carried around, handed me one with a brittle smile. I knew the rules. I was never to drink at any of these functions, not to mingle, neither was it lawful for me to wander off his side.
Chapter ThreeLYCAN CYRIL'S POV"Not now, Alan." I didn't need to look back at the door to know it was Alan West, my executive assistant. There was a moment of silence before the door went closed leaving me the privacy I needed with this redhead before me. Her scent had intoxicated my being all through the night, I’d laid low from where I sat in the VIP, predatory gaze trained her way, waiting for this excellent opportunity to spring up. My eyes roamed her beautiful face, a distinct shade of red. "Don't touch me!" She scowled, slapping off my hand when I tried to cradle her face. I understood her devotion to her husband, the imposing blond who had pranced the hall with a huge grin tugging his face. But the need to make her mine was just too overwhelming to ignore. "What is your name?" I mumbled, lust clipped to every word I spoke. The need to touch her all over again became irresistible. "No, I'm married." She shook her head as though trying to wake from all of this. Yet, this

Chapter 8Lycan Cyril povShe was the least person I expected to see here. Her red hair was one I could recognise even in my sleep, and as she turned around, it was confirmed. She turned white instantly. The feeling was mutual. She equally didn't expect me here. I watched her frozen gaze trace my hair with the water droplets streaming down my exposed chest. I had just showered after a swim. I was in an army designed shorts that barely covered my thighs in fact. I couldn't take my eyes off her either, she looked totally hot in the deep blue swimsuit that effortlessly boasted her V. It took me the whole year of my training to hold back Finn's nonstop growls that ogled her. She was helpless. Her helplessness kept leaving me doubts about her disabled wolf. If she couldn't feel the mate pull as much as I did, then why was she always this helpless at my mercy? She staggered a few steps backwards, her throat throbbing as her eyes wandered over me.I raked my fingers into my hair in an a
Chapter 7Alessia's povMy heart skipped at Thompson's approaching footsteps, and I stood up at once. He stepped in, dropping the phone from his ear after about an hour of talking with Annalise outside.I knew what to expect of his mean gaze. I messed up. That was the thought in his head. ‘‘Just what exactly is your problem?’’ He had it stuffed up in him, his annoyance. “You don't think I also deserve an apology for bringing me here without my consent?’’ I shot back calmly. “Was your consent necessary?” He scoffed. “I did what was needed to get things done and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.’’ The way he usually spoke. The manner he always used with me. It hurts so bad that I loved this man despite his mistreatment towards me. I have only ever loved him but he completely despised me. “Where did I ever wrong you, Thompson? I've done everything possible to prove my love for you but why won't you ever regard my efforts?’’ My voice broke, almost croaking out my words. ‘‘
Chapter 6Lycan Cyril’s povSilence befall the haze as the weight of my command sank in. Her beautiful eyes bulged with something like fear as she regarded Thompson who equally couldn't seem to place my demand. It wasn't proper. I shouldn't have passed such order. How couldn't I control myself when it came to her? Staring at her all through breakfast was enough to stir up suspicions from anyone already. “Uh.. You mean we can….’’ “Forget it. I didn't mean it that way.’’ I dismissed immediately. Thankfully, Thomson didn't take it that I was referring to Alessia alone.Alessia looked away disappointedly, and I made a conviction to control my stare from now on. Clearly, she didn't want Thompson to find out about our connection. At least not yet. And as much as it stings badly, I have to keep up with it. “I feel really honoured to have been recognised by you. Tell me whatever it is you need me to do, and I promise to carry it out with immediate effect and to the best of your satisfacti
