The sliding glass doors of the terminal buzzed open, releasing a gust of cool, processed air that carried the distinct scent of coal and coffee. As I stepped inside, my grip on my suitcase loosened, and my heart quickened. I couldn’t believe I was leaving the country so soon. There was nothing left for me here. Evelyn had come along to bid me farewell as I journeyed to Italy, away from the chaos and struggles, to start a new life and career.

It had been a difficult decision at first. I couldn’t fully comprehend everything Sharon was saying, but the urgency couldn't be denied.
