LEONARD'S POV
On my way to the hospital to check on Aaron, I couldn’t shake the thought of Evelyn. I had waited for her to return from her father’s house, but she never did. I figured she needed private time with her family, so I decided to visit Aaron instead.
As I drove, my thoughts spiraled. Evelyn was too fragile for everything she was going through. Every time I looked at her, I saw the pain in her eyes. Anger rose in me—I couldn’t stand by anymore. I needed to end this. I resolved to find Caleb and Dana, no matter what it took.
When I reached the hospital and entered Aaron’s room, the caregiver greeted me with a solemn expression. Her silence spoke volumes. Moments later, the doctor arrived, confirming my fears. Aaron was in bad shape. Internal injuries had left his vitals dangerously low. Still, the doctor assured me they were doing their best. I had to trust him. After speaking with the doctor, I left the hospital.
Just as I got to my car, my watchman called, his voice laced with urgency. He informed me that someone had broken into Evelyn’s house. Alarmed, I called the police, provided the address, and sped off.
Within minutes, I arrived at Evelyn’s apartment. I moved quietly but found no one inside. Something pushed me to check her father’s house next door. The front door was locked, so I went around to the back. There, I found Mr. Wyatt lying helplessly on the floor, bound and gagged. I untied him, and he told me someone was inside. Together, we entered cautiously.
What I saw stopped me cold. Samantha stood in the middle of the room, trembling, her gaze fixed on Evelyn, who lay in a pool of blood.
I was paralyzed, unable to process the scene. Mr. Wyatt rushed to Evelyn, cradling her as he sobbed.
“What have you done, Samantha?” I demanded, tears streaming down my face.
Before she could answer, the police arrived and took her away. We rushed Evelyn to the hospital, where she was admitted to a special ward. The doctors acted quickly. Meanwhile, the police called to ask how to handle Samantha. I told them to keep her in custody and make her life hard until I was ready to deal with her myself.
The wait for Evelyn’s report was agonizing. My blood boiled with thoughts of Samantha. If Evelyn died, I didn’t know what I’d do. But by some miracle, the doctor reported that the bullet hadn’t penetrated deeply. Evelyn would survive. Relief washed over me, but the sight of Mr. Wyatt, devastated and silent, weighed heavily on my heart.
Hours later, the doctor informed me that Evelyn was awake. Mr. Wyatt went in first. When it was finally my turn, I entered to find tears streaming down Evelyn’s face.
“Leonard,” she whispered, her voice weak. “Tell me none of those things are true.”
Her words caught me off guard. “Of course, you can’t believe Samantha,” I said. “She’s just trying to poison your heart.”
“But some of her words made sense,” Evelyn replied, her voice tinged with doubt.
“Can we focus on your recovery for now?” I pleaded, unsure what Samantha had told her.
“Are you running from the truth, Leonard?” she asked, anger flickering in her eyes.
“Evelyn, your health matters more to me than anything,” I said, avoiding her question. With that, I left the room, my mind racing.
It had been a week since the incident. Evelyn was finally being discharged, though Aaron remained unconscious. We were still dealing with Dana’s accusations against Mr. Wyatt. I knew Caleb and Dana were plotting their next move, but they didn’t realize I had plans of my own.
Despite her recovery, Evelyn seemed distant. She doubted my words, convinced I was hiding something. My explanations fell on deaf ears. I decided that the truth would come out when we confronted Samantha together at the station.
Back at the house, Mr. Wyatt left Evelyn and me alone while he freshened up. I helped Evelyn upstairs, cleaned her up, and gave her fresh clothes. Afterward, I took a quick shower myself.
In the kitchen, I prepared lunch, knowing Mr. Wyatt would join us soon. After eating together, we returned to Evelyn’s room.
Evelyn turned to her father. “Dad, tell me what happened with Dana,” she demanded.
Mr. Wyatt swore he had nothing to do with Dana’s allegations. “I’ve always seen her as a daughter,” he said, his voice steady. As he spoke, sincerity dripped in his voice.
And I wondered, why Dana would choose this path just to get at Evelyn.
Wasn't it okay that she now had Caleb?
0I was distracted from my thoughts as my phone buzzed.
I took out my phone and searched the screen for the notification. It was from an unknown number.
I shoved it aside without even reading the context; I jolted back to Mr Wyatt, who was still explaining things to Evelyn.
I trusted him. Mr. Wyatt was a good man. But Evelyn still seemed conflicted. But I understood her fears. Everything had been wrong with her for some while now. I decided to give her time, knowing the truth would surface eventually. There wasn't a doubt about that.
Mr Wyatt turned his gaze to me and with all seriousness, he asked if everything Samantha said was true. But I didn't even know what she had said to Evelyn. Aside from the failed relationship we once had, notice had happened between us.
I found my voice shaky as I tried to explain, “ I don't know what Samantha had said, but I swear, I have no deep secret with her.
I think I caught a hint of acknowledgment on his face.
But I can't say the same for Evelyn; her face was blank.
Suddenly, the TV caught our attention. The news flashed across the screen, how could this be? We all froze; as we ⁴were trying to recover from the surprise, Evelyn's phone rang, doubling the tension.
LEONARD’S POV:The news blared in the background, filling the room with tension. The state was planning to take serious legal action against Mr. Wyatt for allegedly raping Dana. They announced that he would soon be summoned to court. After the report, the broadcast shifted to public opinions on the case. Some people believed Dana's accusations wholeheartedly, while others stood by Mr. Wyatt, insisting he was a good person.“We need to bring him to justice. It’s crazy how the rich think they can do whatever they want to the masses and get away with it. This time, we won’t let this flop,” one of the interviewees said passionately.I couldn’t blame them for their outrage. They were reacting to what they believed to be true. But this wasn’t what mattered to me. I knew in my heart that Mr. Wyatt was innocent. Still, the damage to his reputation was undeniable. His dignity had been dragged through the mud, and the fallout would affect every side of his life. His company had been temporarily
LEONARD’S POV:I headed back upstairs, where I met Evelyn struggling to put on her heels. I helped her out, and together, we left the room. As we were heading downstairs, a loud noise boomed from outside. Evelyn immediately clung to me, her body trembling with fear. I gently rubbed her palm to assure her that I was there, And she was safe. The noise grew louder, and she turned to me, her wide eyes filled with questions.Understanding her unspoken words, I simply smiled and led her outside.“No way,” she whispered, disbelief etched in her voice as her gaze landed on the helicopter waiting outside. She turned to me, her eyes sparkling with a mixture of surprise and wonder.I leaned in, placing a tender kiss on her lips.“Uhmm... uhmm, make sure you both are safe,” came the unmistakable voice of Mr. Wyatt.“Yes, Dad,” Evelyn responded softly, stepping into the helicopter. Soon, we were airborne, our hands intertwined the entire ride. The silence between us was filled with light conversat
EVELYN’S POV:I sat on the bed, my heart pounding like a raging drumbeat. I could hear their argument from the third room. If Leonard and his mum were fighting because of me, I would never forgive myself. It was obvious I wasn’t welcome here, and the logical thing to do was to leave before Leonard came back.Summoning all the courage I could muster, I stood up and scanned the space for a way out. The security around the house was tight, but I intended to try my best. I walked quietly to the door and opened it to find two security guards stationed just outside.“Ma’am, what may we get you?” one of them asked.I forced a polite smile. “Where’s the kitchen?” I asked gently, masking my true intent as best as I could. He led me to the kitchen and stepped back to wait for me. I asked him to leave, but he hesitated. Apparently, Leonard had given explicit instructions that I wasn’t to leave their sight unless I was inside the room. He even offered to call the cooks to handle anything I wanted
EVELYN’S POV:Leonard picked me up in a bridal style and carried me back into the house. He brought me to a room filled with medical equipment. Almost immediately, a doctor appeared, setting his focus on my injured leg as Leonard gently placed me on the bed.The doctor began to examine my injury. As he explained its severity to Leonard, I could see the unrelenting seriousness etched on his face. His expression was dark and unreadable, but I could sense his frustration.I, however, wasn’t ready to deal with his anger or frustration. I only wanted to go home, to speak with my father and clear my head of the turmoil that was growing with each passing moment. The doctor administered pain relief and carefully wrapped my leg in bandages. He advised me to avoid moving it unnecessarily.“She won’t have any reason to move it,” Leonard interjected, his tone firm.Once the doctor left, I turned to Leonard. “I want to go home. Can you take me?”Before he could respond, his mother walked into the
EVELYN'S POV The company had been released from hold, and I was now receiving messages from both new and old partners, eager to collaborate with my company. EVELYN’S POV “Evelyn,” Leonard groaned, his grip tightening on me. I knew he was close to release, but I wasn’t ready for that yet. Slowly, I loosened my hold on him, releasing his erection from my hand. He was still as hard as ever, the bathroom fell silent for a moment.Standing up, I engulfed him in another searing kiss. He picked me up effortlessly, and we managed to make our way out of the bathroom without breaking the kiss. Gently, Leonard laid me down on the bed. His lips never left mine, and his hands explored every inch of my body.I couldn’t suppress my moans anymore, even as the thought crossed my mind: could his mom hear us? EVELYN'S POV:I couldn’t tell how I was doing, but I decided to put everything about Leonard behind me. Since I left home, I hadn’t thought about him, and it felt like progress.During lunch, I went down to the cafeteria and had something light. Afterward, I read a book before returning to the office. Having been away for a while, I had quite a few files to sort through, but I was grateful for the virtual work I had completed back at home.I scheduled a screening and interview session for the applicants first thing tomorrow morning. I wanted it done quickly so work could return to normal. I also realized I needed to pick up the pace on some pending projects.I thought about the classes I was supposed to start with my dad. Things hadn’t been alright lately, and we hadn’t been able to begin.Opening my computer, I browsed through some books I’d subscribed to and even signed up for a few courses.A knock on the door interrupted me, and my secretary stepped into the office.“It’s almost t
EVELYN’S POV:We went to the living room to watch a TV show together, my dad and I, but I wasn’t concentrating. Without Leonard, I felt incomplete. I’d grown so fond of him in the past few days, and now I felt a bit sick knowing he wasn’t near me. I felt feverish and I requested a cup of coffee, which Leonard's mom instructed one of the cooks to make for me.Deciding to use the time for work, I excused myself from the living room.“Do you need some help?” Leonard's mother asked as I stepped onto the staircase, her eyes drifting to my injured leg. Her voice was filled with worry.“I’m alright,” I managed to smile at her. This woman is the sweetest person I know right now, she doesn't let any detail slip away, she cares so much.I smiled remembering my first ordeal with her.“Let me know if you need anything,” she said again. I nodded and left.Once in my room, I grabbed my laptop and got to work, keeping my secretary on a call the whole time as we exchanged files. It took me at least
