EVELYN’S POV

“He is going to be fine. It’s just that he’s been taking the wrong dosage for his condition, which has caused a serious contraction within his system. But we’ll do all we can to make sure he recovers,” the doctor explained before leaving us.

If the doctor said he’d been taking the wrong dosage, it could only mean my dad had known he was ill before now and had refused to tell me.

I knew he’d been trying to shield me from worry, but not trusting me enough to share his struggles hurt more than his current state.

“How could he not say a thing to me? I didn’t even know my dad was ill until now,” I cried as I buried my face against Leonard’s chest.

He stroked my back gently, whispering assurances that everything was going to be okay.

But I wasn’t ready to accept his words. I sobbed uncontrollably, letting the pain flow through my tears. Leonard remained by my side, offering his silent support.

After what felt like forever, I began to feel lighter, though the weight of the situation still lingered. Exhaustion crept in, and Leonard, noticing my state, suggested we leave for a bit to relax.

I agreed.

I went into the room to grab my bag. Walking over to my dad’s bedside, I placed a kiss on his forehead and whispered, “Get well soon, Dad.”

Just then, a knock sounded at the door, and when it opened, a young lady entered.

“Good evening,” she greeted, stretching out her hand for a shake.

I took her hand, and she did the same with Leonard, who didn’t seem surprised by her arrival.

“She’s a caregiver,” Leonard explained, as if reading my thoughts.

“Oh, that’s okay,” I replied, feeling a bit silly for forgetting we’d need someone to look after my dad while we were away.

After signing some necessary documents, she spoke briefly with the doctor, and we left the hospital.

Leonard drove us to a luxurious five-star hotel. As expected, there were media personnel swarming the entrance and scattered throughout the premises.

We tried to avoid them, but our efforts were in vain. As soon as they spotted us, they rushed toward us.

“Ma’am, there are rumors about an upcoming Henderson Leonard Jr. How true is that?”

“Ma’am, how do you feel about taking care of another woman’s children for your boyfriend?”

The questions came at me like rapid-fire, but I simply blushed and walked past them. Leonard shielded me from the persistent crowd, guiding me safely inside.

Once we reached our room, I immediately headed to the bathroom to take a quick shower, hoping to wash away the uneasiness I felt.

While I bathed, Leonard stepped out of the room, though he didn’t say where he was going.

“Mummy, we miss you,” the voices of the children echoed in my mind.

“I miss you too,” I whispered with a soft smile.

I sank into the bathtub, allowing the warm water to soothe my body and mind.

The door suddenly flicked open. Without needing to look, I knew it was Leonard.

“Where have you been, babe?” I asked as he walked into the bathroom.

He scratched his head, hesitating as though searching for an excuse.

“Don’t even say it—it’ll be a lie,” I teased.

He smiled, stripped off his clothes, and stepped under the shower.

Meanwhile, I remained at the other end of the bathroom, gazing at the cityscape through the glass doors and windows. My legs were crossed over the edge of the tub, and my hand unconsciously rested on my stomach.

“Thought of a name yet?” Leonard asked, breaking the peaceful silence.

“Of course I have! I’ve got so many options,” I replied playfully, “but this isn’t the topic for today.”

He chuckled, his eyes following my gaze.

“This is beautiful, isn’t it?” I said, admiring the view.

“It’s not as beautiful as you,” he replied, making me smile.

We lingered there for a while before eventually moving back into the bedroom. Leonard then asked me to dress up for dinner.

When we stepped outside, I was surprised to see guards stationed everywhere.

“When did you even call them?” I asked, though their presence made me feel safer.

We took a table in the hotel’s restaurant and placed our order. To my surprise, the waiter returned almost immediately, carrying a tray with two glasses and a bottle of wine.

“No, we didn’t order this,” I said politely.

The waiter looked confused until Leonard spoke up. “I did.”

The waiter smiled, placed the tray down, and left.

“Before our actual meal, shall we have this?” Leonard said with a mischievous grin.

At that moment, one of the guards approached and handed Leonard some papers.

Curiosity piqued, I assumed it was something related to his business or the company. But when he handed the papers to me, he pleaded, “Can you help me read this?”

Eager to know what it was, I unfolded the paper_Newspapers and began reading.

“Henderson Leonard sets off...” the headline read. But just a few lines in, my breath caught.

“Evelyn Wyatt, I’ll choose you over and over in another lifetime. Please, MARRY ME.”

I gasped, realizing what was happening.

“Oh my God!” I exclaimed, catching the attention of nearby diners.

Leonard was kneeling before me with a ring in his hand, cameras flashing all around us.

Tears streamed down my cheeks as I choked out the words, “Of course, yes.”

He slid the ring onto my finger, then stood and kissed my hand, my forehead, and finally, my lips.

I clung to him tightly, overwhelmed by the moment.

After the excitement subsided, we returned to our seats, sipping the wine as we waited for our meal to arrive.

Pulling out my phone, I took pictures of the ring, intending to upload them later on social media.

Just then, Leonard’s phone rang, filling the room with its familiar tone.

As he answered the call, I watched him closely, eager to know who was on the other end.

Evelyn's POVI sat in the room, the sound of my thumping heart was louder with the placidness around. As the clock ticked every moment, my body grew more intense in fear and anticipation. How long have I been sitting here? I could barely remember, but I was badly waiting for the doctor to enter the room. But even if he comes, I doubt he could dispel the unease that coiled in my stomach like a slithering serpent. I jerked back from my seat when the door was pushed open. The doctor stepped into the room and made his way to his seat. I furrowed my brows, trying to fathom his expression in order to know my fate, but he had a serious look arched on his face as he passed a paper to me. “What does it say?” I asked, looking at him desperately.“Take a look,” was his only reply as he leaned back against his seat. With a racing heart, I slowly opened the paper and read through it. “Positive?” I turned my gaze to look at the doctor. I stared at him with wide eyes in disbelief. “Doctor… I'm pr

Perhaps it was time I face the truth without ignoring it. “I'm better now, thank you,” I smiled faintly at her. I wanted it to end already because the memories of Caleb hitting my head with a rod multiple times with eyes glaring at me had began seething into my head. I felt angry, irritated and hurt at my naivety with every moment Caleb stayed beside me. Suddenly, it became too hard to breathe as the emotions weighed on my chest, making it impossible to breathe or think properly. I immediately excus
