EVELYN'S POV
I couldn't help but catch Leonard's glances every now and then. He could barely take his eyes off me, and I felt my cheeks warm with shyness as a blush crept over my face.
"Why are you staring like that?" I asked, still shy.
Leonard looked at me with a deep sigh. "Right now, I feel like I'm getting a tan, 'cause girl, you're damn scorching."
"Oh, right, but stop giving me those eyes," I chuckled at my last words. "I mean, you don't want to ruin my period do you?”
"Wait, what eyes?" Leonard asked, leaning closer so I could see his eyes more clearly.
I gasped. It felt like there was magic in his gaze. Leonard was a ten out of ten, and the more I looked at him, the more my heart fluttered. I was falling for him deeply. I looked away immediately, not wanting to be caught staring—or worse, drooling.
"I see. She gets a little shy," he teased, a smirk playing on his lips. "You can't really handle me, huh?"
My whole face turned red, and I couldn’t meet his gaze anymore.
He reached out, took my hands, and pulled me closer, letting me lean against his chest. I rested against him, enjoying the city view as the car rolled along, our hands entwined.
When we pulled up to a grand, castle-like building, the car door was opened for me. I stepped out, Leonard following close behind.
The view was breathtaking, and I could already tell this date was going to be special just like I had fancied. Leonard took my hand as we walked side by side. Though we had gone out in public before, today felt different. The place was crowded, filled with people from the highest social circles. Journalists were scattered around, cameras flashing. I couldn’t help but wonder what was going on.
Then it hit me. This wasn’t unusual—this venue always hosted the elite of the state. Many were here for business, others hoping for a lucky connection with the rich and powerful, and, of course, the journalists were here for gossip. The celebrity’s gossip chat needs to be updated.
As we approached the entrance, we had to step into the spotlight. I glanced at Leonard, but his demeanor was calm, unfazed by the attention. I sighed and continued walking.
Goosebumps ran over my body—I wasn’t used to crowds like this. But we had to walk in, and the crowd, recognizing Leonard, parted to make way for us. Some were screaming his name.
The journalists pushed forward, trying to get Leonard to speak. He ignored them at first, but they didn’t relent.
"We have Leonard Henderson, the hottest billionaire in the state," one journalist exclaimed. "It breaks our hearts to ask—who is the lucky lady? Please, Mr. Henderson, if we could just know who she is!"
Leonard paused, clearing his throat. He glanced at me and smiled, his fingers still entwined with mine.
"She’s the one," he said simply.
The crowd erupted in cheers, though I caught the disappointed expressions of some women in the mix. We walked past them and into the building, my nerves still buzzing.
Leonard seemed to sense my anxiety and kissed my forehead, then my cheek. It calmed me just a bit.
The interior of the building was even more beautiful than I imagined. Soon, we were seated at our table, and a waiter promptly arrived to take our order.
We started with bruschetta for appetizers, and Leonard made sure the dishes he ordered were period-friendly, so they wouldn’t trigger cramps or indigestion. He had a whole list of reasons why I needed to be mindful of what I ate during my period, and honestly, I couldn’t stop falling for him. His level of care was unmatched. I only wondered where he had been all my life.
As we ate the appetizers, we talked and laughed lightly. Soon, our main courses arrived, and the food was as delicious as the setting was grand.
Midway through our meal, a lady approached us. She looked super hot, she seemed to be in her late 20s. Her expression was gross, and I had no idea who she was.
"We need to talk, Leonard," she said bluntly, breaking the peaceful moment.
Leonard looked surprised but not confused—he clearly knew her.
"What the hell are you doing here, Samantha?" he asked, his tone sharp.
"And what made you think you could barge in on me and ruin my time?"
"I just wanted to talk," Samantha said, ignoring his frustration.
"Alright, then talk," Leonard urged her.
She glanced at me, her expression dripping with disdain, before saying, "In private, please."
"I’m sorry, but you have to leave. As you can see, I was having a beautiful moment before you interrupted," Leonard replied, snapping his fingers. Two security guards appeared instantly.
"Take her out," he instructed firmly.
Samantha's eyes widened in shock. "You can’t do this to me, Leonard. You know I love you! You’re just going to dump me for some bitch? Or are you going to pretend we had nothing because of her?" she screamed as the guards escorted her out.
Leonard clenched his fists as she hurled the insult. He turned to me, his expression apologetic.
"Leonard, what’s going on?" I asked, tears filling my eyes.
"What does she mean she loves you? What is she talking about? What the hell have you been hiding from me?" My voice trembled with hurt.
Doubts began to cloud my mind. Maybe I was just his favorite bitch.
Ignoring his apologies, I shook my head. "I need to leave. Now," I said firmly.
I was confused, hurt, and angry. The night I had thought would be magical was now ruined by Leonard’s affairs.
"Evelyn, please," Leonard pleaded.
"I don’t want to hear anything, Leonard. Just take me home," I interrupted, my voice cold. Not a bit interested in what he had to say.
Leonard nodded, his face a mix of regret and sorrow. Quietly, we left the restaurant.
EVELYN’S POV:We walked out of the restaurant, the crowd still waiting outside. I tried to hide my tear-streaked face as we passed through them. When we reached the car, Leonard opened the door for me. I entered, and he followed. And he ordered the driver to move the car.The only sound in the car was the soft hum of the engine and my quiet sobs. How could I have known that Leonard was only taking me for a ride and would eventually break my heart? Caleb was right all along. I remembered his warning, how he’d told me to be careful. Even though we were not cool, I regretted not listening to him.Tears continued to flow as helplessness overwhelmed me."Evelyn, this isn’t what you think. Please let me explain," Leonard pleaded, his voice calm yet desperate. His words only fueled my anger. "Please, Leonard, take me home and spare me the lies. You never even asked me out officially! I only assumed things. How foolish could I have been?" I said, my voice trembling through my tears."Evelyn,
EVELYN’S POV:My heart was racing as I scrolled through the images and the accompanying write-ups, each headline more shocking than the last. I leaned back in my chair, overwhelmed by a storm of emotions. Tears welled up in my eyes as I struggled to process everything. All I ever wanted was peace—peace I thought I had finally found with Leonard. But now, that fragile trust I was building had been shattered. How could he do this to me?I pushed myself up from the chair and trudged back to the bedroom, collapsing onto the bed. I lay there, trying to make sense of it all, but my mind had reached its limit. No clear thoughts emerged; only a chaotic swirl of hurt and frustration. I tried to sleep, hoping it would bring me some relief, but the turmoil inside me wouldn’t let me let sleep intervene.Frustrated, I got up and began pacing the room. My anger bubbled over, and I grabbed nearby items, smashing them against the walls. The destruction brought no solace, just more emptiness. Desperat
EVELYN’S POV:He paused, his gaze piercing mine as though he was waiting for permission to speak. His intensity was palpable, but I said nothing. I just stood there, staring at him, my emotions swirling in a confusing storm of anger, hurt, and vulnerability.Suddenly, a wave of nausea hit me, and I barely made it to the bathroom in time before throwing up. My stomach churned violently, and tears streamed down my face as my body heaved. Leonard appeared moments later, crouching by my side. He helped me clean up without saying a word, his hands steady and comforting.“I’ll be fine,” I murmured, my voice hoarse. “Just… excuse me for a moment. I need to take a bath.”He nodded and left the bathroom, giving me the privacy I needed. The cold water from the shower was both soothing and shocking, washing away some of the emotional turmoil, if only temporarily. I took my time, letting the water cleanse me physically and emotionally. When I stepped out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel, I not
EVELYN'S POV:Like the morning sun breaking through the horizon, his voice illuminated my day. He complimented me with a warmth that sent a blush creeping across my face. Though I tried to hide it, it was impossible. Leonard had a way of seeing right through me. “You look cute that way.” He said as he noticed the blush, and tucked me.I laughed as I reacted to it.“Sit,” I said, motioning toward the bed. I brought the breakfast tray up and placed it between us. We ate together, but the meal was brief; the clock reminded us both of the looming workday ahead.Once we finished, I gathered the dishes and headed to the kitchen. When I returned to the room, Leonard was already waiting for a bath. We stepped into the bathroom together, savoring a quiet, intimate moment before the rush of the day overtook us.Afterwards, we dressed and got ready to leave. My phone buzzed just as I reached for my bag. It was my secretary. She reminded me not to forget the files I had taken home to work on. “
EVELYN'S POV:When I arrived at his place, he was sitting on the balcony, his shoulders slumped, staring out at the horizon. It wasn’t like him. I made my way inside and climbed the stairs, feeling a heaviness in the air. Something wasn’t right. And feared for the worst, but still couldn't say what could be wrong.“Hey, Dad,” I greeted as I stepped onto the balcony, forcing a smile. He turned to look at me, but his response was muted, his tone flat. My heart skipped a beat.As I walked closer, I noticed the small picture of my mom clutched in his hand. His eyes glistened with unshed tears, and it broke my heart to see him like this. “Hey, Dad,” I said softly, kneeling beside him. “I know you miss Mom. I miss her too, more than words can say. But you’ve got to take it easy on yourself. This—this won’t help you, Dad. You know Mom would want you to be happy. She’d want you to find joy, even in her absence. You still have me. Don’t you think I’m filling even a tiny bit of the space she le
EVELYN'S POV:Just when I thought I was finally catching a break from all the chaos, my heart pounded uncontrollably as I deciphered who had sent the message. I cursed under my breath in frustration. I hadn’t even finished dealing with Caleb and Dana, and now this? "Get ready for the battle you just began!" the text read.I stared at the screen in disbelief. Why was everything happening now? Hadn’t I already been through enough? Yet, as much as I wanted to break down, I knew I couldn’t afford to. Leonard had warned me before: staying strong was my only option. And I will abide by just that.Sliding my phone into my pocket, I headed to my room to gather my thoughts. I tried to act normal—at least on the surface—but my body betrayed me. My father noticed immediately that something was off when I got back. His concerned gaze lingered as I handed him the documents he had requested earlier.“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice tinged with hesitation.I nodded quickly. “Yeah, I’m fine.” I re
EVELYN'S POV“Leonard?” My voice cracked as I tried to speak. I needed him to tell me this wasn’t real, that what I’d just read was some twisted joke. But his reaction said it all. He slowly put the phone down, his fists trembling at his sides. His eyes locked on mine, a storm brewing within them.“We need to leave. Now.” His voice was steady but laced with urgency.“Leave? What—what do you mean?” My legs felt like they might give out beneath me.Leonard stood abruptly, pacing the room. “Whoever this is, they’ve made it personal. I don’t trust that staying here will keep you safe. And if they know where you are…” His voice trailed off, the unspoken implications clear.“But my family—”“They’ll be safe,” he interrupted. “I’ll make sure of it. But right now, we need to focus on you.”I wanted to argue, to tell him I wasn’t leaving my father and everything I’d worked so hard to protect. But deep down, I knew he was right. Whoever was behind these messages wasn’t just playing games—they we
EVELYN’S POV:It took me moments—more like hours—before I could breathe again. Leonard held me close in a soothing manner, but it wasn’t enough. It felt like the end—not just my end, but my father’s legacy. His name, his company, everything he had worked for. The notification wasn’t from the same number that had texted earlier. It was an update from the internet: my father, Mr. Wyatt, and his company were being dragged through the mud. As if that wasn’t enough, rumors of a court case were beginning to circulate.I wailed louder now, and Leonard did all he could to calm me down. But I knew this was no accident—it was a calculated setup. My father wasn’t capable of what they were accusing him of. He didn’t have to tell me; I knew. He was being framed, and Gregory Dana—the so-called victim—was an obvious part of the facade.Leonard remained silent, his pained eyes mirroring my torment. But I was too shattered to focus on him. A knock on the door startled us.“I’ll get it,” Leonard said
Happily Ever After“Yes, I do,” Evelyn said, tears streaming down her face as she stood beside the love of her life, Leonard. The sun set behind them, casting golden hues across the beach, where a small crowd of family and close friends clapped in celebration. Evelyn’s heart raced as the pastor, with a gentle grin, declared, “By the power vested in me by the state, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride now.”Leonard didn’t hesitate. He pulled Evelyn close, capturing her lips in a deep, passionate kiss. His mother playfully covered her face, peeking through her fingers, while the crowd cheered and laughed.“Grandma, I want to join Mummy and Daddy!” Ryan and River said in unison, their excitement contagious. Without waiting for permission, they ran to the couple, joining them on the floor. Evelyn and Leonard embraced the kids, laughing as they all danced together when the music began to play.Though the ceremony was intimate, the guests in attendance were people o
Evelyn's POVIt was Leonard, he was carrying the baby, the excitement in his face before I slept off had vanished. “ Babe, what's going on?” I asked. But he didn't say anything, his head was just bowed down slightly, as if finding answers from the baby.My mind started reeling with several thoughts, I knew he had gone to see my dad, did he not like the child?“ Say something.” I said desperately.“ I'm sorry Evelyn.” He said but then paused again, his lips shaking. The door of the room opened again, and the Caregiver walked in.She was also cold. I became confused.“ Was anything wrong with my baby? I asked myself.“ Babe you have to be strong, I'm sorry Mr Wyatt. He didn't complete his sentence when I realized what he was trying to say.My dad was dead, Mr Wyatt was dead. My life was over, literally what came to my mind.“ Noo, no, say something else.” I said, tears streaming down my face.It became difficult to breathe. I was choking on air. I wept bitterly on the bed, Leonard trie
EVELYN’S POV:It had been over two months since the failed surgery. My dad had been living on what felt like a miracle ever since. Each day with him was a gift, a fragile thread holding him here. Leonard, Mia, and the caregiver had been the pillars of support I leaned on during those challenging months.Ryan and River visited often, bringing small moments of joy, but today wasn’t about my dad or them. Today, it was my turn on the hospital bed. Inside the labor room, I lay ready—or as ready as anyone could be—to meet the life I had carried for nine months. The pain I felt was incomparable, beyond anything I’d ever imagined.I clung tightly to Leonard’s hand. He stood beside me, his calm voice trying to pierce through my haze of agony. “You’re doing so well, babe. Just a little more.”A doctor—or maybe a nurse or midwife—entered the room, her expression calm yet purposeful. I knew it was time. She held a syringe, walking briskly toward me.“Hello, madam. Just relax and stay calm. You ca
LEONARD’S POV:Then I turned my attention back to driving. Even though this was supposed to be exciting news on a normal day, we couldn't celebrate it."I'm hungry," Evelyn said. I gave her a questioning look.I turned the car onto another route as we started looking for a restaurant. We eventually found one and walked inside. The meal was nice, and I realized I was also hungry. After eating, we didn’t leave immediately; we stayed for a while to relax. Then a call came to my phone. I took it out and saw it was a new number. Surprisingly, I hesitated before answering, wondering who it could be.“Good day, sir,” a voice said on the other end.I tried to recognize the voice but couldn’t.“I’m from the press hub,” the voice continued. My interest piqued. “What’s the situation?” I asked urgently.“We have three offers right now,” he said.A wave of excitement washed over me for a moment.“Alright, I need their details immediately,” I said and hung up.I turned to speak to Evelyn, only to r
LEONARD’S POV:"It's the court hearing; it's tomorrow. It had just slipped my mind," I said to her, my words unorganized."I'm famished," she said, ignoring the information I had just shared, as if she hadn't asked in the first place."Here you go," I said, serving her meal."Smells so good," she said, sniffing the food while closing her eyes.We had a quick breakfast. Time flew by, and before I knew it, it was the next morning. When I woke up, Evelyn was sleeping peacefully beside me on the bed. The only unusual thing was her large baby bump, which I had grown used to."Good morning, baby," I whispered in her ear and kissed her before getting out of bed.I went to the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water. After finishing it, I started making coffee for us. I was almost done when a familiar voice interrupted me."Good morning," Evelyn said with a bright smile. Even though we were indoors, she shone like the sun.I moved toward her, kissed her cheek playfully, and then kissed her
LEONARD’S POV:Her checkups and scan didn’t take much time. The baby was fine and Evelyn was in perfect condition. Though the doctor recommended so much rest. Afterward, she requested to see the twins.“But they had left only yesterday!” I protested. The twins had become a big part of our lives, visiting from time to time. Even though they stayed at their grandparents’ house, their bond with Evelyn remained strong. They were so fond of her that they never wanted to leave whenever they came over. The feeling was mutual.“But I miss them,” she said, pouting her lips. “We won’t stay long; it’ll just be a brief visit.”“I know, but the doctor said you need rest. You should get some,” I tried to convince her. But Evelyn wasn’t one to give up easily.Eventually, she succeeded in convincing me instead. I called the kids' grandparents on our way to inform them of our visit. As soon as we arrived, the kids ran out to welcome us. I scooped both of them into my arms and lifted them high. Only t
LEONARD’S POV:I adjusted the car seat and pulled her toward me. She tried to pull away, but she couldn’t match my strength.“Leave me alone. I hate you,” she said, hitting me violently. But I kept my hold firm on her. After a moment of crying and consoling, she eventually calmed down.“Evelyn, I promise everything will be fine,” I said reassuringly.“No, nothing is fine. He’s getting worse every day,” she replied, her voice frail. She clung to me and sobbed gently. “I don’t want anything to happen to him.”“Of course not,” I answered. When she was calm enough, I started the car and we drove to the hospital.“How are you, Evelyn?” my mom asked as soon as we stepped inside the hospital room. The caregiver was sitting on a chair, while my mom sat beside Mr. Wyatt on his bed. He was awake now, though he looked so weak and pale. He wasn't the Mr Wyatt I knew months back anymore. We settled in and tried to cheer Mr. Wyatt up. We had a good time that evening. It was the first time I’d seen
LEONARD’S POV:“I miss you so much,” I said to her, placing a kiss on her cheek and then her forehead.“And you had to do this?” she said mockingly to me.“Of course, I’ll do it anytime,” I replied. She giggled and hugged me again.“Good afternoon, sir,” her secretary walked up to us and greeted me.I responded, and then we made preparations to leave. Evelyn and I stayed entwined with each other the entire time. We all boarded the jet and took off.Evelyn’s face shifted slightly, and before I could ask her what was wrong, she said, “How is my dad?”I kept quiet for a moment, thinking of how to respond. “He’s steady for now,” I lied. I couldn’t bring myself to tell her the truth—not yet.“I can’t wait to see him,” she said happily.“Sure, you’ll see him soon,” I replied, trying to sound confident.Even though she appeared happy, her face was still marked with dark circles, and I could see through her mask. She was deeply worried about her dad.“My mom is also at the hospital; she came
LEONARD’S POV:“I figured you haven’t had time to eat,” she said, noticing the amusement on my face.As I ate, we had a little conversation, and then she asked, “How do you intend to break the news to Evelyn?”I slightly choked on the food and let out a faint cough. I was frozen for a moment. It was still a question that lingered in my mind, unanswered.“I don't know. I’ve thought about it several times, but I can’t seem to find a good way to say it to her,” I explained. My mom placed her hand on my shoulder and said, “Just take it easy on yourself.”“Thank you, Mom,” I replied and continued eating my meal. Then my phone rang suddenly. I quickly picked it up without even checking the caller.“Good afternoon, sir,” the voice on the other end said respectfully.“The project has been approved. I just received an email—have you seen it yet?” he asked.I’d been so busy I hadn’t even thought about work. I had almost forgotten I was waiting for an approval. This was good news. It was a multi
