EVELYN’S POV:
We walked out of the restaurant, the crowd still waiting outside. I tried to hide my tear-streaked face as we passed through them. When we reached the car, Leonard opened the door for me. I entered, and he followed. And he ordered the driver to move the car.
The only sound in the car was the soft hum of the engine and my quiet sobs. How could I have known that Leonard was only taking me for a ride and would eventually break my heart? Caleb was right all along. I remembered his warning, how he’d told me to be careful. Even though we were not cool, I regretted not listening to him.
Tears continued to flow as helplessness overwhelmed me.
"Evelyn, this isn’t what you think. Please let me explain," Leonard pleaded, his voice calm yet desperate.
His words only fueled my anger. "Please, Leonard, take me home and spare me the lies. You never even asked me out officially! I only assumed things. How foolish could I have been?" I said, my voice trembling through my tears.
"Evelyn, I was waiting for the perfect time," he defended himself.
"The perfect time? Well, breaking news—I just realized my mistake, and we’re done."
Leonard moved closer, trying to touch my hand, but I jerked it away.
"Leonard, leave me the hell alone!" I screamed, my voice breaking.
The drive to my house felt excruciatingly long. Every minute suffocated me, sharing the same air with him. What a loser, I thought to myself. A disrespectful man who couldn’t handle honesty.
Finally, we pulled up to my house. Leonard got out first and opened the door for me. I stepped out, He tried to follow me, probably to talk, but I ignored him completely. My cold demeanor left him no choice but to leave.
As I walked into the house, every step felt heavier than the last. By the time I reached my bedroom, the pain in my chest was unbearable. I flung myself onto the bed, crying until my voice was hoarse.
After an hour of sobbing and replaying everything in my mind, I pulled myself together. I recited affirmations to remind myself of my worth.
Eventually, I got up, went to the bathroom for a warm shower, and tidied myself up. I grabbed a bottle of water from the kitchen before returning to my room. Without thinking twice, I climbed into bed and drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, I was woken up by a call from my secretary. She’d applied for a four-day leave and wanted to confirm it with me.
"I’ll be at the office soon. We’ll talk more then," I told her.
"Uhmm, congratulations, ma’am," she added cheerfully. Her excitement confused me. Was there a promotion I wasn’t aware of? Or had another major client signed with the company?
"Thank you," I replied, still puzzled. I told her to schedule a meeting with Mr. Watt for 4 PM before ending the call.
I got out of bed, completed my morning routine, and got dressed for work. Before heading to the office, I decided to stop by my dad’s place.
When I arrived, I found him in the middle of a workout, which was rare. But I assume he was just bored.
"Good morning, Dad," I greeted him with a smile as I approached.
He responded warmly, and we chatted briefly. He asked if I was okay, mentioning that my eyes looked puffy. I brushed it off, blaming lack of sleep.
"Good luck today," he said before I left.
As I reached the garage, the driver opened the car door for me, but I decided to drive myself. Taking the keys, I drove off to the office.
When I arrived, I supervised the premises briefly. Everything seemed intact, so I headed to my office. My secretary entered immediately after spotting me.
"I sent an email to Mr. Watt, but he hasn’t approved it yet," she informed me. She also explained that her mother was ill, which was why she needed the leave.
I understood her situation and wished her mom a quick recovery. My secretary had always been diligent, and I mentally noted to consider her for a promotion soon.
I turned my attention to my laptop, checking emails and messages. One email caught my attention—it was a confirmation of a meeting next week regarding the successful project presentation. Our company had officially joined a major partnership.
Suddenly, it made sense why my secretary had congratulated me earlier. I smiled, proud of the achievement, and continued attending to other emails and tasks.
Later, my secretary walked in again.
"Someone is here to see you," she said.
"Is it an official appointment?" I asked.
"No, it’s Leonard Henderson," she replied, almost as if expecting me to change my mind.
"I’m only accepting official appointments," I said firmly.
She left and returned with a bouquet of flowers.
"He left these," she said.
"Just put them somewhere," I replied dismissively.
It was lunchtime, and I decided to walk to a nearby restaurant. My phone rang again, but I ignored it. Leonard had been calling nonstop since morning, but I wasn’t ready to talk to him.
After a quick, light meal, I returned to the office and prepared for my meeting with Mr. Watt, he had sent his approval. The meeting went smoothly, and we secured the deal.
As we stood to leave, Mr. Watt turned to me with a smile.
"Congratulations, by the way," he said.
"Thank you, sir. I’m excited to give this my best," I replied.
"Not just about the deal—I mean congratulations to you and Leonard Henderson," he added, his words catching me off guard.
Confused, I nodded politely and thanked him. I remembered the phone call Leonard had made to Mr. Watt the other day. Perhaps he’d assumed we were together.
It was past 5 PM when I finally headed home. As I approached my front door, I spotted another bouquet of flowers and a note.
"Evelyn, I’m sorry, but you need to hear me out," the note read.
I rolled my eyes, left the flowers outside, and entered the house.
After grabbing dinner in the kitchen, I sat down to eat. My thoughts betrayed me, drifting to memories of Leonard—our meals together, our jokes, and the way he always made me smile. Frustrated, I grabbed my phone and turned on my data.
Immediately, notifications flooded in. Curious, I clicked on one that had tagged me on I*******m.
The headline caught my attention: "She’s the one," accompanied by a picture of Leonard and me holding hands from last night.
My heart skipped a beat.
EVELYN’S POV:My heart was racing as I scrolled through the images and the accompanying write-ups, each headline more shocking than the last. I leaned back in my chair, overwhelmed by a storm of emotions. Tears welled up in my eyes as I struggled to process everything. All I ever wanted was peace—peace I thought I had finally found with Leonard. But now, that fragile trust I was building had been shattered. How could he do this to me?I pushed myself up from the chair and trudged back to the bedroom, collapsing onto the bed. I lay there, trying to make sense of it all, but my mind had reached its limit. No clear thoughts emerged; only a chaotic swirl of hurt and frustration. I tried to sleep, hoping it would bring me some relief, but the turmoil inside me wouldn’t let me let sleep intervene.Frustrated, I got up and began pacing the room. My anger bubbled over, and I grabbed nearby items, smashing them against the walls. The destruction brought no solace, just more emptiness. Desperat
EVELYN’S POV:He paused, his gaze piercing mine as though he was waiting for permission to speak. His intensity was palpable, but I said nothing. I just stood there, staring at him, my emotions swirling in a confusing storm of anger, hurt, and vulnerability.Suddenly, a wave of nausea hit me, and I barely made it to the bathroom in time before throwing up. My stomach churned violently, and tears streamed down my face as my body heaved. Leonard appeared moments later, crouching by my side. He helped me clean up without saying a word, his hands steady and comforting.“I’ll be fine,” I murmured, my voice hoarse. “Just… excuse me for a moment. I need to take a bath.”He nodded and left the bathroom, giving me the privacy I needed. The cold water from the shower was both soothing and shocking, washing away some of the emotional turmoil, if only temporarily. I took my time, letting the water cleanse me physically and emotionally. When I stepped out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel, I not
EVELYN'S POV:Like the morning sun breaking through the horizon, his voice illuminated my day. He complimented me with a warmth that sent a blush creeping across my face. Though I tried to hide it, it was impossible. Leonard had a way of seeing right through me. “You look cute that way.” He said as he noticed the blush, and tucked me.I laughed as I reacted to it.“Sit,” I said, motioning toward the bed. I brought the breakfast tray up and placed it between us. We ate together, but the meal was brief; the clock reminded us both of the looming workday ahead.Once we finished, I gathered the dishes and headed to the kitchen. When I returned to the room, Leonard was already waiting for a bath. We stepped into the bathroom together, savoring a quiet, intimate moment before the rush of the day overtook us.Afterwards, we dressed and got ready to leave. My phone buzzed just as I reached for my bag. It was my secretary. She reminded me not to forget the files I had taken home to work on. “
EVELYN'S POV:When I arrived at his place, he was sitting on the balcony, his shoulders slumped, staring out at the horizon. It wasn’t like him. I made my way inside and climbed the stairs, feeling a heaviness in the air. Something wasn’t right. And feared for the worst, but still couldn't say what could be wrong.“Hey, Dad,” I greeted as I stepped onto the balcony, forcing a smile. He turned to look at me, but his response was muted, his tone flat. My heart skipped a beat.As I walked closer, I noticed the small picture of my mom clutched in his hand. His eyes glistened with unshed tears, and it broke my heart to see him like this. “Hey, Dad,” I said softly, kneeling beside him. “I know you miss Mom. I miss her too, more than words can say. But you’ve got to take it easy on yourself. This—this won’t help you, Dad. You know Mom would want you to be happy. She’d want you to find joy, even in her absence. You still have me. Don’t you think I’m filling even a tiny bit of the space she le
EVELYN'S POV:Just when I thought I was finally catching a break from all the chaos, my heart pounded uncontrollably as I deciphered who had sent the message. I cursed under my breath in frustration. I hadn’t even finished dealing with Caleb and Dana, and now this? "Get ready for the battle you just began!" the text read.I stared at the screen in disbelief. Why was everything happening now? Hadn’t I already been through enough? Yet, as much as I wanted to break down, I knew I couldn’t afford to. Leonard had warned me before: staying strong was my only option. And I will abide by just that.Sliding my phone into my pocket, I headed to my room to gather my thoughts. I tried to act normal—at least on the surface—but my body betrayed me. My father noticed immediately that something was off when I got back. His concerned gaze lingered as I handed him the documents he had requested earlier.“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice tinged with hesitation.I nodded quickly. “Yeah, I’m fine.” I re
EVELYN'S POV“Leonard?” My voice cracked as I tried to speak. I needed him to tell me this wasn’t real, that what I’d just read was some twisted joke. But his reaction said it all. He slowly put the phone down, his fists trembling at his sides. His eyes locked on mine, a storm brewing within them.“We need to leave. Now.” His voice was steady but laced with urgency.“Leave? What—what do you mean?” My legs felt like they might give out beneath me.Leonard stood abruptly, pacing the room. “Whoever this is, they’ve made it personal. I don’t trust that staying here will keep you safe. And if they know where you are…” His voice trailed off, the unspoken implications clear.“But my family—”“They’ll be safe,” he interrupted. “I’ll make sure of it. But right now, we need to focus on you.”I wanted to argue, to tell him I wasn’t leaving my father and everything I’d worked so hard to protect. But deep down, I knew he was right. Whoever was behind these messages wasn’t just playing games—they we
EVELYN’S POV:It took me moments—more like hours—before I could breathe again. Leonard held me close in a soothing manner, but it wasn’t enough. It felt like the end—not just my end, but my father’s legacy. His name, his company, everything he had worked for. The notification wasn’t from the same number that had texted earlier. It was an update from the internet: my father, Mr. Wyatt, and his company were being dragged through the mud. As if that wasn’t enough, rumors of a court case were beginning to circulate.I wailed louder now, and Leonard did all he could to calm me down. But I knew this was no accident—it was a calculated setup. My father wasn’t capable of what they were accusing him of. He didn’t have to tell me; I knew. He was being framed, and Gregory Dana—the so-called victim—was an obvious part of the facade.Leonard remained silent, his pained eyes mirroring my torment. But I was too shattered to focus on him. A knock on the door startled us.“I’ll get it,” Leonard said
EVELYN'S POV:The security guards were having a heated argument at the gate. From where we stood, we couldn’t see who they were arguing with. Curious, Leonard and I walked up to them.As we approached, I was startled to see Aaron. He looked tattered, almost homeless. A surge of pity rose in me as I took in his disheveled appearance. I instructed the guards to let him in, despite the clear disapproval in Leonard’s eyes. His gaze darkened the moment I spoke, but I couldn’t turn Aaron away.As soon as the guards allowed him in, I tried to speak with him. But before Aaron could finish a single sentence, he collapsed to the ground. Without wasting a moment, Leonard and I rushed him to the hospital. At the hospital, we sat in tense silence, waiting for news of his condition. My mind raced with questions. What had happened to him? Was Caleb or Dana involved?“Doctor, how is he?” I asked urgently as the doctor approached.“He’s still unconscious, but we’re doing everything we can,” the doctor
Happily Ever After“Yes, I do,” Evelyn said, tears streaming down her face as she stood beside the love of her life, Leonard. The sun set behind them, casting golden hues across the beach, where a small crowd of family and close friends clapped in celebration. Evelyn’s heart raced as the pastor, with a gentle grin, declared, “By the power vested in me by the state, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride now.”Leonard didn’t hesitate. He pulled Evelyn close, capturing her lips in a deep, passionate kiss. His mother playfully covered her face, peeking through her fingers, while the crowd cheered and laughed.“Grandma, I want to join Mummy and Daddy!” Ryan and River said in unison, their excitement contagious. Without waiting for permission, they ran to the couple, joining them on the floor. Evelyn and Leonard embraced the kids, laughing as they all danced together when the music began to play.Though the ceremony was intimate, the guests in attendance were people o
Evelyn's POVIt was Leonard, he was carrying the baby, the excitement in his face before I slept off had vanished. “ Babe, what's going on?” I asked. But he didn't say anything, his head was just bowed down slightly, as if finding answers from the baby.My mind started reeling with several thoughts, I knew he had gone to see my dad, did he not like the child?“ Say something.” I said desperately.“ I'm sorry Evelyn.” He said but then paused again, his lips shaking. The door of the room opened again, and the Caregiver walked in.She was also cold. I became confused.“ Was anything wrong with my baby? I asked myself.“ Babe you have to be strong, I'm sorry Mr Wyatt. He didn't complete his sentence when I realized what he was trying to say.My dad was dead, Mr Wyatt was dead. My life was over, literally what came to my mind.“ Noo, no, say something else.” I said, tears streaming down my face.It became difficult to breathe. I was choking on air. I wept bitterly on the bed, Leonard trie
EVELYN’S POV:It had been over two months since the failed surgery. My dad had been living on what felt like a miracle ever since. Each day with him was a gift, a fragile thread holding him here. Leonard, Mia, and the caregiver had been the pillars of support I leaned on during those challenging months.Ryan and River visited often, bringing small moments of joy, but today wasn’t about my dad or them. Today, it was my turn on the hospital bed. Inside the labor room, I lay ready—or as ready as anyone could be—to meet the life I had carried for nine months. The pain I felt was incomparable, beyond anything I’d ever imagined.I clung tightly to Leonard’s hand. He stood beside me, his calm voice trying to pierce through my haze of agony. “You’re doing so well, babe. Just a little more.”A doctor—or maybe a nurse or midwife—entered the room, her expression calm yet purposeful. I knew it was time. She held a syringe, walking briskly toward me.“Hello, madam. Just relax and stay calm. You ca
LEONARD’S POV:Then I turned my attention back to driving. Even though this was supposed to be exciting news on a normal day, we couldn't celebrate it."I'm hungry," Evelyn said. I gave her a questioning look.I turned the car onto another route as we started looking for a restaurant. We eventually found one and walked inside. The meal was nice, and I realized I was also hungry. After eating, we didn’t leave immediately; we stayed for a while to relax. Then a call came to my phone. I took it out and saw it was a new number. Surprisingly, I hesitated before answering, wondering who it could be.“Good day, sir,” a voice said on the other end.I tried to recognize the voice but couldn’t.“I’m from the press hub,” the voice continued. My interest piqued. “What’s the situation?” I asked urgently.“We have three offers right now,” he said.A wave of excitement washed over me for a moment.“Alright, I need their details immediately,” I said and hung up.I turned to speak to Evelyn, only to r
LEONARD’S POV:"It's the court hearing; it's tomorrow. It had just slipped my mind," I said to her, my words unorganized."I'm famished," she said, ignoring the information I had just shared, as if she hadn't asked in the first place."Here you go," I said, serving her meal."Smells so good," she said, sniffing the food while closing her eyes.We had a quick breakfast. Time flew by, and before I knew it, it was the next morning. When I woke up, Evelyn was sleeping peacefully beside me on the bed. The only unusual thing was her large baby bump, which I had grown used to."Good morning, baby," I whispered in her ear and kissed her before getting out of bed.I went to the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water. After finishing it, I started making coffee for us. I was almost done when a familiar voice interrupted me."Good morning," Evelyn said with a bright smile. Even though we were indoors, she shone like the sun.I moved toward her, kissed her cheek playfully, and then kissed her
LEONARD’S POV:Her checkups and scan didn’t take much time. The baby was fine and Evelyn was in perfect condition. Though the doctor recommended so much rest. Afterward, she requested to see the twins.“But they had left only yesterday!” I protested. The twins had become a big part of our lives, visiting from time to time. Even though they stayed at their grandparents’ house, their bond with Evelyn remained strong. They were so fond of her that they never wanted to leave whenever they came over. The feeling was mutual.“But I miss them,” she said, pouting her lips. “We won’t stay long; it’ll just be a brief visit.”“I know, but the doctor said you need rest. You should get some,” I tried to convince her. But Evelyn wasn’t one to give up easily.Eventually, she succeeded in convincing me instead. I called the kids' grandparents on our way to inform them of our visit. As soon as we arrived, the kids ran out to welcome us. I scooped both of them into my arms and lifted them high. Only t
LEONARD’S POV:I adjusted the car seat and pulled her toward me. She tried to pull away, but she couldn’t match my strength.“Leave me alone. I hate you,” she said, hitting me violently. But I kept my hold firm on her. After a moment of crying and consoling, she eventually calmed down.“Evelyn, I promise everything will be fine,” I said reassuringly.“No, nothing is fine. He’s getting worse every day,” she replied, her voice frail. She clung to me and sobbed gently. “I don’t want anything to happen to him.”“Of course not,” I answered. When she was calm enough, I started the car and we drove to the hospital.“How are you, Evelyn?” my mom asked as soon as we stepped inside the hospital room. The caregiver was sitting on a chair, while my mom sat beside Mr. Wyatt on his bed. He was awake now, though he looked so weak and pale. He wasn't the Mr Wyatt I knew months back anymore. We settled in and tried to cheer Mr. Wyatt up. We had a good time that evening. It was the first time I’d seen
LEONARD’S POV:“I miss you so much,” I said to her, placing a kiss on her cheek and then her forehead.“And you had to do this?” she said mockingly to me.“Of course, I’ll do it anytime,” I replied. She giggled and hugged me again.“Good afternoon, sir,” her secretary walked up to us and greeted me.I responded, and then we made preparations to leave. Evelyn and I stayed entwined with each other the entire time. We all boarded the jet and took off.Evelyn’s face shifted slightly, and before I could ask her what was wrong, she said, “How is my dad?”I kept quiet for a moment, thinking of how to respond. “He’s steady for now,” I lied. I couldn’t bring myself to tell her the truth—not yet.“I can’t wait to see him,” she said happily.“Sure, you’ll see him soon,” I replied, trying to sound confident.Even though she appeared happy, her face was still marked with dark circles, and I could see through her mask. She was deeply worried about her dad.“My mom is also at the hospital; she came
LEONARD’S POV:“I figured you haven’t had time to eat,” she said, noticing the amusement on my face.As I ate, we had a little conversation, and then she asked, “How do you intend to break the news to Evelyn?”I slightly choked on the food and let out a faint cough. I was frozen for a moment. It was still a question that lingered in my mind, unanswered.“I don't know. I’ve thought about it several times, but I can’t seem to find a good way to say it to her,” I explained. My mom placed her hand on my shoulder and said, “Just take it easy on yourself.”“Thank you, Mom,” I replied and continued eating my meal. Then my phone rang suddenly. I quickly picked it up without even checking the caller.“Good afternoon, sir,” the voice on the other end said respectfully.“The project has been approved. I just received an email—have you seen it yet?” he asked.I’d been so busy I hadn’t even thought about work. I had almost forgotten I was waiting for an approval. This was good news. It was a multi
