Chapter 1

Sapphire’s pov

All my life, I've been haunted by one nightmare : my mother's death. As if that wasn't enough, the Moon Goddess decided Larisa deserved the perfect mate while I get the honour of getting every floor in the packhouse.

Lucky me.

I'm what people would call the classic Cinderella — work like a slave, forced to live in my sister's shadow, watch and sulk in my little corner as my sister gets showered with love, and act invisible around everyone in the pack. My life was going nowhere.

Everything was out of reach — happiness, love, joy. 10 years into this life of mine and I was beginning to think I was cursed.

While polishing the marble floor, I overheard 2 maids whisper to each other.

The middle-aged blonde among them twirled her hair in her finger. “Diana, the mating ceremony is in 2 days.”

Her companion, a younger brunette, gasped. “Oh my Goddess, Catherine, you're right. Everyone’s going and I absolutely have nothing to wear.”

“After tonight's shift, let's go to the dress maker’s.” Catherine said, squeezing her wet rag into a bucket.

Diana scoffed. “No. All the maidens will be there. What do we do?”

“How about Sapphire? She makes dresses.”

“Sapphire? You mean ugly Sapphire?” Diana scoffed again. “I'm surprised she even has a talent.”

“I know, right? I saw the dress she made for Larisa. It was out of this world. We could tell her to make the same for us.”

“Sure, but I'm not paying.”

“Who says anything about paying her?”

Both of them giggled before walking away.

I stopped scrubbing the floor and looked at the palm of my hands – raw and red. One more scrub and I fear my skin will peel off.

“Is she done scrubbing the floor?! Sapphire!” Larisa yelled, adding a stomp to the floor.

I resumed scrubbing the floors, ignoring the pain that came with it.

Larisa came along with a shimmering pink gown, the dress I made for her. “Hey!”

I looked up. “Yes?”

“The waist doesn't have any diamonds! Why did you make it like this!” She yelled.

“If I try to sew it with my sewing machine, the needles break. I couldn't do it any further so I sprinkled some shimmer instead.” I explained.

“Hmm.” Larisa tossed the dress to the wet floor. “I don't want anything that won't make me sparkle. Fix it and you better make it dazzle.”

I looked at her retreating figure. It takes an insane amount of self-control to not smack her across the face.

I heaved a sigh and took the soiled gown. “It’ll be alright, Sapphire. Don't break.”

I folded the dress and kept it on a table. As I resumed scrubbing the floor of the grand hall and almost everyone that walked past me, talked about one thing : the mating ceremony.

“I can't wait for my mate to take me out of here.” A girl squealed as she stepped into the place I had just scrubbed.

Mate huh?

I didn't have a mate but the next two days would determine my fate.

Who would my mate be?

Would he even be my salvation? If he would, then I'd like to get out of here.

I would want him to save me from the shackles holding me down.

If he did then I would finally be free from being Larisa’s shadow.

Night fell over the pack and so did the October rain.

I sat in my room with the candle light on.

Each time the wind slapped against the window, the candle light flickered as though it would soon let out.

I pinched my eyes as I sewed the diamonds on Larisa’s dress, hoping I would be done with it soon.

Ten minutes later, I was done.

“Thank Goddess.” I gave the dress a look-over and I was satisfied with my work.

Larisa would be dazzling on the day of the mating ceremony while I… it didn't matter what I would wear. As long as I met my mate, I was more content. In two days time, I will find my mate and happily ever after.

Hopefully.

I pushed back my seat at the same time I heard my door creak open.

“Sapphire? Are you awake?” A female voice asked.

“Yes. Who's there?” I asked, grabbing the candle stand.

“It's Diana and Catherine.” The door opened fully and they both walked in. “We'd like you to make a dress for us. I hope that isn't much trouble.”

The look in their eyes said trouble but I couldn't say no to them. Father said I shouldn't say no to my superiors.

After taking their measurements and the fabrics, I slumped into my chair and hissed. “I hate myself.”

Then I remembered I had to return Larisa’s dress to her.

I nearly folded the dress and went to her room. But when I got there, I heard noises. Muffled noises like that of an argument.

“This is why I neglected Sapphire and groomed you. It's to secure the pack's alliance!” Father yelled.

“But father, you're throwing my life away!” Larisa retorted. “I cannot marry the Lycan King. King Dimitri is a menace! Do you know the cruel things I've heard about him? He's the devil!”

“Your duty is to the pack, Larisa! And your duty is to marry the Lycan King! My decision has been made!” He announced.

The door flew open and he stormed out of the room.

Just then Larisa fell to the floor on her knees and sobbed.

When I tried to say something, she got up and slammed the door in my face. Well played, little sister.

I kept the dress on the floor for her and turned on my heels. At least my fate wasn't decided like hers. I still had a chance.

“My mate… whoever you are…. I'm coming.”

Two days later,

The day of the mating ceremony arrived and so did the Lycan king. All of the Silvermoon pack including me, greeted His Majesty.

The Alpha of our pack, father welcomed him to the pack and threw a celebration to welcome him into the pack.

I had my plans – to find my own mate during the ceremony and get the hell out of here. But I guess I wasn't the only one making plans.

I wasn't dolled up.like the rest of the maidens. I styled my curly white hair in a chignon and painted my lips with a pomegranate I stole from the kitchen. Makeup is expensive and I earn next to nothing.

Satisfied with my look, I walked out of my room with a proud smile. Tonight, I win.

However, I didn't think my victory would be coming anytime soon. It had been 2 hours since the party and my mate was a no-show. I was beginning to worry.

I took another glass of wine and swallowed everything in one gulp. This was frustrating.

“This year's ceremony is so boring. Am I right?” Larisa said, passing me a glass of wine.

I took it without hesitation. “Yup. Might as well get drunk than sleep on it.”

Larisa laughed. “Are you drunk, big sis?”

“Shh.” I shushed her and giggled. “Don’t tell father.”

Larisa smiled. “I won't. It'll be our little secret.”

“Good.” I giggled, feeling dizzy. My eyes fell on the wine glass. The way it swirled in the cup made me wonder if it was wine or something else.

Before I could give it a good sniff, Larisa nudged me in the ribs. “What are you doing? Sniffing the wine? Do you want everyone to think you were raised in the countryside? Behave!”

“But it looks suspicious. Is this even wine?” I asked, completely under the dizzy spell.

“It isn't,” Larisa smirked. “Don't worry, big sis. It's just apple juice.”

Sapphire's povI woke up in a bed that wasn't mine, next to a man who looked like he'd rather bite my head than kiss me.“Who are you!” He demanded.“Who are you?” I asked, pulling the sheets to my chest. “What's that supposed to mean? You're the one in my room!” He barked, sitting up on the velvet sheets. “What?” My forehead throbbed as I tried to remember what happened last night but my mind was blank. I was just as confused as he was.The man grabbed my arm and pulled me closer. That was when it hit me. His scent — sandalwood and hint of cinnamon. Was he my - -I had barely completed my sentence before he gave me a shove and I fell from the bed to the floor. “Get dressed and get the hell out of here.” The stranger growled at me.I gasped in shock. What kind of gentleman treats a lady like this?“Marcus!” He called out in a loud voice. The mahogany double doors parted and a middle-aged man strolled in. “Yes, Your Majesty. You summoned me.” The man, I assume is Marcus, said with

Chapter 3
Sapphire's pov You would think being married to the Lycan King would come with perks. Turns out it doesn't. I told myself I didn't care who my fated mate was or what he looked like. I told myself all I wanted was freedom. I prayed to the Moon Goddess for love and freedom and she gave me wrath and chains in return.Five months into our marriage, Dimitri started cheating on me. “Cheating” didn't mean him getting mistresses. It was customary for Alpha’s and King's to have as many mistresses as they wished while married. No one complained about it. But I did. Dimitri didn't take any other woman as his mistress. He chose my sister. More like she chose him.How did I discover his ‘infidelity?’It began two weeks ago when Larisa visited. She had come under the guise that father insisted she check up on me to see if I was with child. What a caring father he was.It was cloudy on Sunday morning when she arrived. It felt like the Moon Goddess was giving me a sign, warning, a reminder that I

Sapphire's povNothing says “happy birthday” like waking up in chains while your husband frolics with his mistress.Never had I imagined my twentieth birthday would begin with humiliation — Dimitri publicly snubbing me because Larisa said I “insulted” her and him firing Lydia because she was “crossing a line.” A loud throbbing sound caught my attention and I looked up to the ceiling. Dimitri was at it again. This time with a new mistress.Tears pooled at the ends of my eyes as a soul piercing scream escaped my lips. How could Dimitri do this? How could he do this to me? Humiliation wasn't enough. Now, this? Their laughter echoed through the walls and I pulled at the chains. The more I struggled, the more the metal cut into my wrist. “Aargh!” I winced in pain. The laughter from before returned and this time it was louder, almost as if Dimitri and his mistress were mocking me.Drop. Drip.Red crimson dropped from my wrist and stained the white bedsheets. At the sight of my own bloo

Chapter 5
Sapphire’s povI guess the saying is true. When you fail to learn from history then you’re bound to repeat it. The moon goddess has given me another chance to learn from history and this time, I won’t make the same mistake I did last time. I watched as Larissa came to me like clock work, drinks in hand . I was ready to confront and strangle her so hard but I realized that would be too easy. Opportunities like this only come once and I’m not going to waste it . As I watched, Larissa made her way towards me, a smug smile plastered on her face. I felt a surge of anger, but I pushed it down, determined to play it cool.I took a deep breath and pretended not to see her, walking straight towards her with a careless air. The drinks in her hand spilled all over her dress as we collided."Oh no, I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed, trying to sound as sincere as possible. "I'm such a clumsy fool!"Larissa's face turned red with rage as she stared at the stains on her dress. "You fucking twat, can't yo

Chapter 6
Sapphire’s povAs I descended the stairs, the soft rustle of my mother's gown echoed through the hallway. I had chosen to wear it tonight, not just for sentimental reasons, but also to remind myself of the strength and resilience that had been passed down to me.The gown was a soft, silken confection that draped elegantly across my body. Its gentle hue, a pale moonlit blue, seemed to shimmer in the candlelight, casting a subtle glow across my skin.My eyes scanned the room, taking in the sea of faces. Larissa was holding court, collecting compliments from her friends and acquaintances like a queen accepting tributes. I rolled my eyes, unimpressed by her antics.Instead, I made my way to the drink tables, my mind focused on the task at hand. I had a plan, and I was determined to see it through. As I reached the table, I made sure to glance around, ensuring that no one was watching me. That's when I saw him - Dimitri, with those piercing green eyes that seemed to bore into my soul, I fe

Sapphire’s pov“Please, no, I beg of you.” Larissa’s cries woke me up and I just knew, that my plan was a success.“You hear that?” I said to no one in particular as I stretched my limbs. “That, is the sound of sweet, sweet revenge.” I muttered and smiled to myself as I made my way to my closet. I brought out one of my simpler gowns to wear for the personal occasion. It wasn’t too fancy but it was one of my favorites and it fit the bill . I quickly put it on not wanting to miss out on this great entertainment. As I walked towards where the sound was coming from, my footsteps stopped at my father's office. I stood in the doorway, my eyes fixed on the scene before me. Larissa was crying uncontrollably on the sofa, her face red and puffy. Dimitri sat across from my father, his hands on his temples, looking like he was trying to ward off a headache. Or a curse. When it concerns my sister, you really could never tell. My father looked up, his eyes meeting mine. I smiled innocently, tryi

Chapter 8
Sapphire’s pov I stood before my closet, the rows of clothes a blur as I deliberated on the perfect outfit. Pack meetings were usually something I endured with reluctance, the pack's disdain and scorn a familiar, biting chill. But today was different. Today, I wanted to savor every moment. My fingers trailed over the fabrics, searching for the one that would make me shine. And then, I saw it - a ravishing red gown that hugged my curves in all the right places. A smile spread across my face as I envisioned the looks on their faces when I walked into the meeting, a vision of loveliness. With deliberate slowness, I began to get ready, each stroke of the hairbrush and each delicate touch of makeup a ritual of transformation. I wanted to be perfect, to show them all that I was more than just the pack's punching bag. They treated me horribly in my past life making me feel worthless and maybe part of that was my fault, I didn’t show them what I was capable of.“But not anymore” I murmured t

Dimitri’s povAs Sapphire entered the meeting room, her red dress commanding attention, my wolf surged to the surface, straining against my control. I gritted my teeth, fighting to keep my emotions in check, but it was no use. My wolf was out of control, driven by a primal urge to claim Sapphire as my own.I didn't understand why I had been reborn, or why the course of history seemed to be unfolding differently this time around. But one thing was certain: Sapphire was supposed to be my bride, not Larissa.Someone was messing with history, altering the events that had been set in motion centuries ago. And I couldn't help but wonder if Sapphire was behind it all. Was she somehow manipulating events to keep us apart? The thought sent a surge of anger through me, but I pushed it aside, focusing instead on the task at hand. I had to find a way to correct the course of history, to reclaim the life that was meant to be mine. And that meant getting to the bottom of Sapphire's role in all of t

Sapphire’s povThe day of the wedding ceremony had finally arrived and I was assigned to make the wedding dress and also get the lovely bride ready “ hey that’s too tight” Larissa yelped as I was tightening her corset for her gown. I smirked as I fakely apologized, “ so sorry larissa” She rolled her eyes as she looked back at the vanity The wedding gown was a breathtakingly beautiful creation, a masterpiece of silk and satin that seemed to shimmer and glow in the light. The delicate ivory fabric was adorned with intricate lace and delicate embroidery, intricate patterns that danced across the bodice and skirt like tendrils of vines. As I stepped back to admire my handiwork, I couldn't help but notice the sad look that had settled on Larissa's face. Her eyes, once bright and sparkling, now seemed dull and lifeless, and her smile was nothing more than a faint, forced curve of her lips.I picked up the brush and began to smooth out her hair, my fingers moving deftly as I worked.
