Sapphire's pov
You would think being married to the Lycan King would come with perks. Turns out it doesn't.
I told myself I didn't care who my fated mate was or what he looked like. I told myself all I wanted was freedom. I prayed to the Moon Goddess for love and freedom and she gave me wrath and chains in return.
Five months into our marriage, Dimitri started cheating on me.
“Cheating” didn't mean him getting mistresses. It was customary for Alpha’s and King's to have as many mistresses as they wished while married. No one complained about it. But I did. Dimitri didn't take any other woman as his mistress. He chose my sister. More like she chose him.
How did I discover his ‘infidelity?’
It began two weeks ago when Larisa visited. She had come under the guise that father insisted she check up on me to see if I was with child. What a caring father he was.
It was cloudy on Sunday morning when she arrived. It felt like the Moon Goddess was giving me a sign, warning, a reminder that I was always in danger. I didn't put my mind to it.
I didn't eventually when I felt a familiar pain in the lower part of my body.
“Your Highness!” Lydia, my chambermaid rushed to my side when I nearly swooned from the throbbing pain.
My fingers clutched my mattress and I squeezed hard. “Ah. What's happening to me?”
“Should I get you a glass of water?” She asked with a worried look on her face.
“No,” I tried to catch my breath.
Heat pooled between my legs and I was short of breath.
Dimitri, that bastard.
“Aargh!” A pain shot up my spine and I nearly collapsed.
Dots were beginning to flood my vision. For a second, I feared I was going to die.
“Ma'am.” Lydia placed her hand on my shoulder.
“I'm fine.” I whispered.
Warmth rushed through my body and I was alive again. It felt like someone released a giant drum of water through a desert. The passion has been silenced or as mother would say “climaxed”
After Lydia left my chambers, I climbed into bed and laid on my back.
Dimitri just slept with another woman. He dared to do that to me!
I bit my bottom lip to stop myself from crying but I couldn't stop myself. They rolled down my cheeks like waterfalls. That day, I cried till dawn for the first time in my life.
The following morning, the maids woke me up and prepared me for breakfast.
While they were getting me ready, the Herald announced Larisa's entrance into the room.
I had almost dismissed her but that would leave a bad impression especially the maids and I couldn't lose our friendship. I’d have so much to live for.
Larisa stepped into view and my stomach flipped.
What was this witch doing here?
“Good morning, sis.” She beamed me a smile but it obviously did not reach her eyes.
I corrected in a dry tone. “It's Your Highness, Larisa.”
Larisa smiled and muttered something under her breath.
“I'm sorry. Did you say something?” I asked innocently.
“Nothing. You look radiant.” She lifted her fingers to her neck.
That was when I saw it.
Purple bruises. No, purple teeth marks adorned her neck like some jewelry.
She caught me staring and winked. Oh no. She did not.
She stepped closer and I took a step back, defeated.
The woman Dimitri was with last night was her? Sandalwood and cinnamon enveloped her like some invisible canopy. She wore my husband's scent like some perfume. How dare she? How dare he?
“I heard your cry last night and I apologize for what happened,” Larisa bowed her head. “Dimitri insisted I remained quiet but I couldn't… I was too horny to.”
I clenched my fists at my side. “What?”
Larisa crossed her arms over her chest. “Dimitri is good in bed although he's a bit rough. Animalistic, if you would but I'd give him a 5 star. You're lucky to experience this sort of thing, sis.”
“You think sleeping with my husband has given you some kind of edge, is that it?” I retorted, trying to sound confident but the crack in my voice said otherwise.
“Yes,” Larisa smiled. “It has. Dimitri has made me his number 1.”
“You …”
“What?” Larisa laughed. “You'd what? Lay your filthy hands on me? If you don't want to incur Dimitri's wrath, I suggest you keep your hands to yourself.”
Lydia interrupted with a hiss. “Don't you dare speak to Her Highness that way.”
“Lydia, that's enough.” I shook my head.
Larisa took a step forward. “Aww. Cowering behind your maid, are you? Now, that's embarrassing even for you, Your Highness.”
She reached for the crown on my hair and took it. “It'll look better on me, don't you think?”
I watched in horror as she placed the crown on her head. “Now, the crown is in its rightful place! Coupled with the mating marks I look like a queen, don't I?”
“How dare you, Larisa,” I choked out a sob. “You lied against me so I would marry Dimitri and now, I have, you want him? Is that it? Stealing the husband of a married woman? How low can you aim?”
“As low as I can if it means to see you suffer!” Larisa yelled.
“Do you know what it was like? Enduing the searing pain of the mating bond while Dimitri fucked you like a whore?!”
“You will not refer to my Larisa like that!” A deep, masculine voice boomed in the room.
The air felt light, almost too thin to breathe. His presence dominated the very room and everyone of them cowered in fear. Everyone except me.
“Darling…” Larisa rushed to meet him. Tears, where I didn't know where they came from, streamed down her cheeks. “It’s Sapphire… She tried to hurt me. She said hurtful things to me. I was just trying to help.”
Dimitri put his protective arms around her and glared at me. “How could you be so cruel, Sapphire? How could you lay your hands on your sister?”
Me? Cruel? Me? Lay my hands on my sister? If anyone did any of those, it was him!
“Darling, let's leave her,” Larisa said to him in an innocent voice that didn't belong to her.
“As you wish, darling.” Dimitri agreed.
In my presence, he scooped her into his arms and walked out of the room.
When they left, my knees weakened and I slumped to the floor.
“Your Highness! Your Highness!”
I didn't know what happened afterwards. All I knew was I woke up with the same searing pain from last time. One more day in this hell of mine and I swore I would kill somebody.
Days grew into weeks and weeks matured into a month since Larisa's arrival. From the look of things, she wasn't planning on leaving anytime soon.
During those turbulent days, I barked at my growing hatred for Dimitri and Larisa.
Enduring mistreatment as Dimitri's maltreatment as his “wife” and watching Larisa enjoy my place was a stab to the chest.
Dimitri treated me like a servant, ignoring my attempts to prove myself to him. Nothing I did was good enough.
While Larisa on the other hand, was flaunted by Dimitri.
Push came to shove and I decided I had had enough. It was time to smack some sense into that bitch called Larisa.
“Just because you're in a sexual escapade, doesn't make you less of a whore.” I said, seething with boiling rage.
Larisa threw her head back and laughed. “You’re talking back again. Who taught you that, your ill-mannered maid?”
“No. Experience.” I shot back.
“That's good. You look like you could use more experience. The apple drink incident didn't do much anyways.”
“What?”
“Ugh!” Larisa pinched the skin between her brows. “You never read between the lines, do you? Well, let me give you a heads up. The apple juice I gave to you at the mating ceremony was spiked. Your sleeping with Dimitri was all planned. There. Happy now?”
“What?” My blood ran cold. “Was it staged by you? How - - how could you? How could you ruin my life!”
“Because it was fine.” Larisa smiled.
I don't know what came over me because the next second, my hand gripped Larisa's necklace and I growled. “One day, Larisa…”
She panicked as she stared at me.
I ignored the tears in her eyes. “One day, I'll make you choke on your lies.”
Sapphire's povNothing says “happy birthday” like waking up in chains while your husband frolics with his mistress.Never had I imagined my twentieth birthday would begin with humiliation — Dimitri publicly snubbing me because Larisa said I “insulted” her and him firing Lydia because she was “crossing a line.” A loud throbbing sound caught my attention and I looked up to the ceiling. Dimitri was at it again. This time with a new mistress.Tears pooled at the ends of my eyes as a soul piercing scream escaped my lips. How could Dimitri do this? How could he do this to me? Humiliation wasn't enough. Now, this? Their laughter echoed through the walls and I pulled at the chains. The more I struggled, the more the metal cut into my wrist. “Aargh!” I winced in pain. The laughter from before returned and this time it was louder, almost as if Dimitri and his mistress were mocking me.Drop. Drip.Red crimson dropped from my wrist and stained the white bedsheets. Sapphire’s povI guess the saying is true. When you fail to learn from history then you’re bound to repeat it. The moon goddess has given me another chance to learn from history and this time, I won’t make the same mistake I did last time. I watched as Larissa came to me like clock work, drinks in hand . I was ready to confront and strangle her so hard but I realized that would be too easy. Opportunities like this only come once and I’m not going to waste it . As I watched, Larissa made her way towards me, a smug smile plastered on her face. I felt a surge of anger, but I pushed it down, determined to play it cool.I took a deep breath and pretended not to see her, walking straight towards her with a careless air. The drinks in her hand spilled all over her dress as we collided."Oh no, I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed, trying to sound as sincere as possible. "I'm such a clumsy fool!"Larissa's face turned red with rage as she stared at the stains on her dress. "You fucking twat, can't yo
Sapphire’s povAs I descended the stairs, the soft rustle of my mother's gown echoed through the hallway. I had chosen to wear it tonight, not just for sentimental reasons, but also to remind myself of the strength and resilience that had been passed down to me.The gown was a soft, silken confection that draped elegantly across my body. Its gentle hue, a pale moonlit blue, seemed to shimmer in the candlelight, casting a subtle glow across my skin.My eyes scanned the room, taking in the sea of faces. Larissa was holding court, collecting compliments from her friends and acquaintances like a queen accepting tributes. I rolled my eyes, unimpressed by her antics.Instead, I made my way to the drink tables, my mind focused on the task at hand. I had a plan, and I was determined to see it through. As I reached the table, I made sure to glance around, ensuring that no one was watching me. That's when I saw him - Dimitri, with those piercing green eyes that seemed to bore into my soul, I fe
Sapphire’s pov“Please, no, I beg of you.” Larissa’s cries woke me up and I just knew, that my plan was a success.“You hear that?” I said to no one in particular as I stretched my limbs. “That, is the sound of sweet, sweet revenge.” I muttered and smiled to myself as I made my way to my closet. I brought out one of my simpler gowns to wear for the personal occasion. It wasn’t too fancy but it was one of my favorites and it fit the bill . I quickly put it on not wanting to miss out on this great entertainment. As I walked towards where the sound was coming from, my footsteps stopped at my father's office. I stood in the doorway, my eyes fixed on the scene before me. Larissa was crying uncontrollably on the sofa, her face red and puffy. Dimitri sat across from my father, his hands on his temples, looking like he was trying to ward off a headache. Or a curse. When it concerns my sister, you really could never tell. My father looked up, his eyes meeting mine. I smiled innocently, tryi
Sapphire’s pov I stood before my closet, the rows of clothes a blur as I deliberated on the perfect outfit. Pack meetings were usually something I endured with reluctance, the pack's disdain and scorn a familiar, biting chill. But today was different. Today, I wanted to savor every moment. My fingers trailed over the fabrics, searching for the one that would make me shine. And then, I saw it - a ravishing red gown that hugged my curves in all the right places. A smile spread across my face as I envisioned the looks on their faces when I walked into the meeting, a vision of loveliness. With deliberate slowness, I began to get ready, each stroke of the hairbrush and each delicate touch of makeup a ritual of transformation. I wanted to be perfect, to show them all that I was more than just the pack's punching bag. They treated me horribly in my past life making me feel worthless and maybe part of that was my fault, I didn’t show them what I was capable of.“But not anymore” I murmured t
Dimitri’s povAs Sapphire entered the meeting room, her red dress commanding attention, my wolf surged to the surface, straining against my control. I gritted my teeth, fighting to keep my emotions in check, but it was no use. My wolf was out of control, driven by a primal urge to claim Sapphire as my own.I didn't understand why I had been reborn, or why the course of history seemed to be unfolding differently this time around. But one thing was certain: Sapphire was supposed to be my bride, not Larissa.Someone was messing with history, altering the events that had been set in motion centuries ago. And I couldn't help but wonder if Sapphire was behind it all. Was she somehow manipulating events to keep us apart? The thought sent a surge of anger through me, but I pushed it aside, focusing instead on the task at hand. I had to find a way to correct the course of history, to reclaim the life that was meant to be mine. And that meant getting to the bottom of Sapphire's role in all of t
Sapphire’s povThe day of the wedding ceremony had finally arrived and I was assigned to make the wedding dress and also get the lovely bride ready “ hey that’s too tight” Larissa yelped as I was tightening her corset for her gown. I smirked as I fakely apologized, “ so sorry larissa” She rolled her eyes as she looked back at the vanity The wedding gown was a breathtakingly beautiful creation, a masterpiece of silk and satin that seemed to shimmer and glow in the light. The delicate ivory fabric was adorned with intricate lace and delicate embroidery, intricate patterns that danced across the bodice and skirt like tendrils of vines. As I stepped back to admire my handiwork, I couldn't help but notice the sad look that had settled on Larissa's face. Her eyes, once bright and sparkling, now seemed dull and lifeless, and her smile was nothing more than a faint, forced curve of her lips.I picked up the brush and began to smooth out her hair, my fingers moving deftly as I worked. The skirt fell in soft, flowing folds to the floor, its hem embroidered with delicate silver thread that caught the light as I moved.Around my neck, a delicate gold pendant glinted, shaped like a serpent coiled around a ruby. My fingers were adorned with rings of gold and silver, each one bearing a small, polished gemstone. As I applied my signature red lipstick, the color seemed to match the mischievous glint in my eye. Sapphire’s povAfter calming the pack, Dad, Dimitri, and I headed inside, our discomfort palpable. We gathered around the fireplace, the crackling flames casting flickering shadows on our faces. Mary came in and set the fire, her eyes filled with sympathy."Who did it?" I asked in a hushed tone, my gaze fixed on the flames. My reaction was still raw, my emotions simmering just below the surface."Pardon me?" Father asked, his brow furrowed in confusion."Who started the fire, Father?" I pressed, my voice firm but controlled. "You must have known who it was."Sadly, we don't," Father replied, his expression somber."Well, are you trying every day to find out?" I asked, my frustration growing.Father sighed, his eyes tired. "Look, Sapphire, it's late. Finding the person won't bring your sister back, so let's just drop the issue.
Sapphire’s pov“My sister is gone?”Dimitri's arm wrapped around me, holding me close as I trembled with shock and grief. Father's face was etched with sorrow, his eyes filled with tears."I'm so sorry, Sapphire," he whispered, his voice cracking. "I should have been able to save her."I shook my head, unable to speak. The weight of my loss was crushing me, making it hard to breathe. Dimitri's grip on me tightened, holding me upright.Suddenly, the sound of horses' hooves echoed through the night air. A group of riders emerged from the darkness, their faces illuminated by the flickering flames of our burning estate. One of the riders dismounted, rushing towards us.his face set in a grim expression."I'm so sorry," he said, his voice low and urgent. "We need to get you out of here, now. The fire is spreading fast.
Sapphire’s povAfter my bath, Mary bid me goodnight and left, closing the door softly behind her. I slipped into my nightgown, my mind still reeling from the events of the day. What had the fortune teller meant, especially when she'd called Dimitri and me a couple? I shook my head, trying to clear the thoughts. Taking a deep breath, I slowly drifted off to sleep. But my rest was short-lived. It felt like mere hours had passed before I stirred, groggily opening my eyes to find my room shrouded in a thick, eerie fog. I sat up with a start, my heart racing as I realized that my entire room was filled with smoke.I began coughing, my lungs burning from the smoke. Soon, screams echoed from outside, and I quickly stepped out into the chaos. Maids were running wildly, their faces panicked. I rushed to Father's room to rescue him, but he wasn't there.I turned to see the fire had already consumed part
Sapphire’s povThe silence between us was thick, and Dimitri's expression was unreadable. It wasn't my place to ask what was on his mind, so I didn't."Is that all for the day?" he finally asked."No, actually," I replied. "We still have to see the village fortune teller.""Oh, a fortune teller," he said, a faint smile playing on his lips. "How interesting. Well, lead the way."The air felt lighter as we walked towards the fortune teller's home.“ so do you believe in fortune telling” I asked to cut the silence“ no I don’t, but it’s nice others do, I just don’t”Oh okay.. Sapphire’s povThe next day, I woke up with a sense of determination. I was going to do everything in my power to avoid Dimitri and anything that had to do with him. After a quick breakfast, I gathered my things, ready to head out to the village for some work that needed my attention. Just as I reached the door, my father called out to me, his voice echoing with authority.“Is everything okay, Father?” I asked, halting mid-step, my heart racing slightly at the unexpected interruption.“I have some matters to discuss with your sister,” he replied, his tone serious. “So why don’t you take Dimitri for your morning patrol?”My stomach churned at the mention of his name. “Uhm, Father, I’m sure the Lycan King won’t want to see some villagers,” I protested, trying to mask the rising panic within me.But before I could finish my thought, Dimitri’s voice cut through the air, smooth and confident. “No, I would actually love to come.”I felt heat rush to my cheeks, a mix of frustration and embar
Sapphires povDimitri leaned against the counter, a smirk playing on his lips as he took another gulp of water. “You know I’m the lycan king, right? I could smell you from a mile away.” His gaze remained fixed on the cup, not even bothering to look in my direction. My heart raced at his words—how did he know? When did he realize? With a resigned sigh, I stepped out from behind the door, feeling the weight of his presence.“If you knew I was there, then why didn’t you say so sooner? You had to make me feel dumb?” I shot back, my voice laced with a playful cunning as I approached him.“Cause I liked how cute you think you can hide from me.” Really? I raised an eyebrow, intrigued, as I closed the distance between us, stopping just inches away. I could feel his heartbeat, the intoxicating scent of him filling the air. A smile crept onto my face as I remembered my earlier thirst. I turned to pour some water into the cup, finally acknowledging my own needs. Taking a sip, I moved away fro

I slipped off my dress, exchanging it for the soft comfort of my sleeping gown.As I fell onto the bed, I couldn't help but think that this had to be one of the toughest things I'd ever done. The tension, the lies, the constant need to be on guard...it was exhausting.Just as I was starting to drift off, I heard a knock at the door. "Yes, who is it?" I asked, my voice tired."It's me, Sapphire," my father's voice replied.I hesitated for a moment before answering, "Yes, please come in."My father entered, his expression a mixture of concern and approval. Sapphire’s povAs I lay in bed, reflecting on the past few days, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. The coronation ceremony had been a resounding success, and the pack had welcomed me with open arms. I had slipped into the role of alpha with ease, and the respect of my pack members was palpable. However, my father had been a different story altogether. He had been distant, almost detached, and I couldn't help but wonder if it was because he was struggling to let go of the reins. I pushed the thought aside, hoping that with time, he would come to terms with the new dynamics.Just as I was starting to drift off to sleep, a soft knock at the door broke the silence. "Yes?" I called out, wondering who could be visiting at such a late hour."It's me, Sapphire," my father's voice replied from the other side of the door. "May I come in?"I sat up straight, adjusting my nightgown as I replied, "Yes, please come in."The door creaked open, and my father stepped inside
