Sapphire’s pov

As I descended the stairs, the soft rustle of my mother's gown echoed through the hallway. I had chosen to wear it tonight, not just for sentimental reasons, but also to remind myself of the strength and resilience that had been passed down to me.

The gown was a soft, silken confection that draped elegantly across my body. Its gentle hue, a pale moonlit blue, seemed to shimmer in the candlelight, casting a subtle glow across my skin.

My eyes scanned the room, taking in the sea of faces. Larissa was holding court, collecting compliments from her friends and acquaintances like a queen accepting tributes. I rolled my eyes, unimpressed by her antics.

Instead, I made my way to the drink tables, my mind focused on the task at hand. I had a plan, and I was determined to see it through.

As I reached the table, I made sure to glance around, ensuring that no one was watching me. That's when I saw him - Dimitri, with those piercing green eyes that seemed to bore into my soul, I felt the mating bond spark up within me . For a moment, I thought I saw something akin to affection in his gaze, but I knew better.

Memories of our past life came flooding back, and with them, the sea of anger and resentment threatened to drown me . I turned away, my eyes scanning the room for a distraction.

Dimitri, too, seemed to sense the tension between us and turned his attention elsewhere. I watched him for a moment, my mind working overtime to plot my next move.Revenge was a dish best served cold, and I was determined to serve it to both Larissa and Dimitri.

Speaking of the bitch I turned my gaze to her, to find that father talking to her it’s more of yelling actually, I tuned my ear towards their conversation

“ don’t ruin this for us Larissa” father said in a harsh tone, I didn’t know father really needed this

“But father” Larissa interjected but father cut her off

“ no buts Larissa, make this work for the pack” he said before walking away

I almost felt bad for her she was being forced to do something she didn’t want to

Or at least I almost felt bad suddenly the memories of my past life flooded my mind reminding me of the cruel things she did to me, the pain she caused me.

I reached into my pocket and retrieved the small pouch of drugs, carefully pouring its contents into two cups.

I signaled to a nearby maid that was handing out drinks ordering her to deliver the cups to Larissa and Dimitri. As I watched the maid disappear into the crowd, a sense of satisfaction washed over me.

As I watched Larissa and dimitri take their drinks anticipating ran through my veins. Just as they were about to sip.

my father’s voice cut through the chatter in the room

I turned my attention to my father, a sense of curiosity washing over me. What was he about to say? And why now? I glanced over at Larissa and Dimitri, who were still holding their cups, not yet taking them. Frustration began to bubble in my chest and I had to take a deep breath to calm myself.

“Patience Sapphire. Good things come to those,” I took a deep breath in, then exhaled slowly, “who wait.” I murmured under my breath, placing a calming hand on my chest before returning my attention to the scene before me, a small smile gracing my lips.

"May I have your attention everyone?" My father said, his voice booming across the room. The chatter and laughter died down, and all eyes were on him.

"I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to all of you for coming tonight," he continued, a warm smile spreading across his face. "It means a great deal to me, and to our family, to have you all here to celebrate this special occasion."

“We are all here in hopes of starting a union between two packs that will last a lifetime so please, a toast.” My father raised his glass and I watched Larissa and Dimitri do the same. Not yet Sapphire.

“Let this be the beginning of a new relationship. To my daughter, Larissa and Alpha Dimitri, her soon to be husband.” Father said then tipped his drink back.

The room erupted into applause, and I joined in, clapping politely. Larissa and Dimitri exchanged a smile, and I could see the excitement in their eyes. They were completely unaware of what was about to happen.

As the applause died down and the clinking of glasses rang through the room, Larissa and Dimitri also raised their cups to each other, ready to take a sip. I held my breath, and watched as they tilted their mugs back.

Aha. Now. There it is.

I watched as their glasses emptied, oblivious to the effects as they downed the contents of it.

I smiled to myself as I watched Larissa's world begin to spin. She stumbled and almost bumped into a maid , her eyes glassy and unfocused.

And that’s my cue.

I rushed over to her, feigning concern. "Oh my God, Larissa, are you okay?" I asked, trying to sound sincere while hiding a laugh.

Larissa's response was predictable. "Get your hands off of me, bitch, I'm fine." She spat out, her words slurred.

I wanted to leave her there to continue making a fool of herself, but that wasn't the kind of revenge I had in mind. I wanted something more… personal.

"Larissa, let me lead you to your chambers.” I said, grabbing her hand as she struggled against me. But the drug was too strong, and she eventually gave in.

I led her upstairs, my eyes adjusting easily to the darkness. I had cleaned every inch of this castle, and I knew its layout like the back of my hand.

We reached the guest room, and I pushed her inside. She didn't even notice that it wasn't her own room. I laid her down on the bed, and as I closed the door , I heard footsteps coming up the staircase.

I hid in the shadows, peeking around the corner to see who it was. And when I saw Dimitri's face, illuminated by the candle he carried, I couldn't help but smile.

I watched as he entered the room, the candlelight flickering and then going out. I slipped out of my hiding spot, my eyes fixed on the door as I made my way back to my own room.

Opening the door, I couldn’t resist it — the urge. I glanced back down the hallway, my eyes lingering on the door to the guest room.

"An eye for an eye, bitch.” I whispered to myself, a satisfied smile spreading across my face.

I brought out one of my simpler gowns to wear for the personal occasion. It wasn’t too fancy but it was one of my favorites and it fit the bill . I quickly put it on not wanting to miss out on this great entertainment. As I walked towards where the sound was coming from, my footsteps stopped at my father's office. I stood in the doorway, my eyes fixed on the scene before me. Larissa was crying uncontrollably on the sofa, her face red and puffy. Dimitri sat across from my father, his hands on his temples, looking like he was trying to ward off a headache. Or a curse. When it concerns my sister, you really could never tell. The coronation ceremony had been a resounding success, and the pack had welcomed me with open arms. I had slipped into the role of alpha with ease, and the respect of my pack members was palpable. However, my father had been a different story altogether.
