89: Always Worth It

The first thing I heard that signaled I’d regained consciousness was the faint jazz playing in the background.

Slowly, I opened my eyes and the first sight I was greeted with was the portrait of Ashley and I from when she’d forced me into a photo booth on Valentine’s Day, so I immediately knew that I’d awoken in her room.

Just as I started to struggle to get myself into a sitting position, the door opened and Ashley walked in holding a glass of blood. Despite my weakness, I could smell it easily.

“Logan, please don’t do that, you need your rest,” she hurried to my side and used her free hand to nudge me back into a lying position.

I fought back the grunt that tried to escape when my back hit the bed so as to not worry her.

“I’m so relieved that you’re awake,” she reached for my face and rubbed my jawline softly, “I was seconds away from calling Alex to send your family physician over.”
