Magnus had stopped crying the moment the voice echoed against the walls and now, my son was looking up at me with nothing but concern in his eyes. “Mommy?” The one word that passed his lips was more than enough for me to understand what he was asking. On instinct, my hand shot to the back of his head as I tried to pull it closer to my chest, as if that could help me protect my boy. “It’s okay, baby. Just close your eyes and let me deal with this. You’re safe, I’ll keep you safe.” All odds were against me, so it did feel as if I was lying. But then again, there was no way I was going to tell a child that we could possibly die because the scary entity was back. “Not your child,” it repeated again, sending cold shivers down my spine. Lucius povCould anyone even attempt to find the words that might describe how I felt in this situation? We were so close, so bloody close that I was about to lose my mind if our happiness slid through my fingers again. Titus just nudged me, encouraging me to go outside and get some fresh air to calm down, but if he had any idea why I was like this, maybe he would understand. I knew he was trying to uphold peace and harmony in our relationship, but what we needed right now was everything but that. We needed a whole full-blown riot or some shit. “Here, let’s sit down and talk. Eden needs some time with the grandpa dude,” Titus grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the bench, located under a tree, perfectly hidden from the sun. Begrudgingly, I followed him and sat down. Titus didn’t ask anything and didn’t bother to look at me either. He just sat and watched nature blossom around us as if we weren’t a step away from our entire lives burning down to ash. My legs were tied to something I was laying on, but hands were free, so I couldn’t understand why they didn’t move.Trying to open my eyes was useless as it felt as if my eyelids had weights attached to them. Recalling what happened, I couldn’t remember much. One moment, everything was fine. Richard sat next to me and tried to start talking about some family history when the lights went out. I could remember the look on Richard’s face when he jumped to his feet, spun around and shouted, “go away, you don’t belong here! There is no place for you in the world of the living!”The next moment, Richard was thrown out of the room and the locks clicked. Eden povMy eyebrows furrowed in confusion. I understood that this thing was on some weird quest because of my late mother, but why was her blood so damn important? While I was busy trying to figure it out, the creature snapped his fingers and suddenly, my eyes opened with ease. The weight was gone and nothing held me down, except for the restraints on my legs. “See, it wasn't so hard, was it?” It mocked me.My eyes scanned the dark room until they set on the black blob of nothingness in the furthest corner. I might be freaking dreaming because I could have sworn the thing was grinning at me. It had no mouth, no eyes, no limbs - nothing. And yet, I could feel his eyes on me and see the non-existent grin across the lips. “Do not worry, my lovely. I shall help you see me in a better light soon. You see, I have brought a friend with me. Trust me, you’ll love him. I chose him to fit your liking. I told you that I’ve been watching, haven’t I?” With that being said, the thing disappear

Lucius pov“Where?” I growled the word as I stomped to him, grabbed his throat and squeezed it until I cut off his air supply. I trusted this fool. I trusted him with the safety of my mate and this is how it came out? He ran like a bloody coward while our mate was taken by some mad lunatic and brought Goddess knew where? Richard’s hands grabbed mine as he struggled to get out of my hold, but I had none of it. Whatever would happen next was out of my control - this time, I would allow Xabat take the fucking thing he loved almost as much as he loved our mates. Richard’s spine. Titus rushed to my side and carefully placed his hand on my shoulder. “Xabat, babe, let him go. Trust me, we need him alive. It wasn’t his fault. Don’t make this harder than it already is. Listen to what the old man has to say, maybe he has ideas where that fuckhead took Eden. We need the old man.” Honestly, I wouldn’t have released Richard. Ever. Titus povI had no idea how Lucius felt about this, but what I found extremely fascinating was how the old man spoke about Eden. He sounded amazed and scared shitless at the same time. Sure, I wasn’t the best person to judge one’s character without massive amounts of information, but I could have sworn that he was just as clueless about what this ‘special’ trait was as we were. “And?” Lucius broke the silence, urging the old man to tell us more. The grunt that left him clearly was a proof of his unwillingness to tell us more, not that Lucius cared anyway. “Richard, we are done playing games. It is our mate you are talking about, Titus and I deserve to know what’s so special about Eden and exactly why that creature is after her.” My eyes darted between them two as I imagined an intense tennis match. Eden pov This was one of those moments when I really needed Kanox. I needed his advice or at least to hear his voice. While I had no idea what I was supposed to do, he would definitely have the answer. My eyes focused on the sick creature, wearing someone’s else’s skin as if that was no big deal. He looked human, but didn’t smell like one. Honestly, if he were to walk among other humans, I had little to no hope that anyone around him would understand that he was a sick, sinister creature, not one of their own. When he stepped so close I could smell a hint of sulfur on him, I realized he wasn’t just another supernatural. This was the first time I caught on the smell as well. “Will you first tell me the full story about my parents?” Clearly, he saw through me. I wanted to know, yes, but I also was using the question to stall, to win some time for my mates. “Of course, anything for you,” it said, grinning.
