Chapter 5

“I… It was an accident, I didn't mean to… I was just…” Naomi tried to explain, but words didn't come out.

The doctor's eyes narrowed as he stared at her, “You're bleeding.” He observed and moved closer to her. Out of habit, she flinched, raised her hands to shield herself from the hit she thought was coming.

“I'm not going to hit you, I just want to check your head.” He said softly, after he was done, he moved away from her.

“You're wounded, you have to get yourself treated.”

“B… but I don't have any money. I also have nothing to offer you. I…” She was about to speak but was cut off by the doctor.

"Miss Naomi… Come with me!" Doctor Zade stumbled over his words. His eyes were filled with nothing but empathy for her.

"I should come with you? Why? Since the moment that you treated me at the hospital, I've been aware of the way that you've been watching me. Why do you want to be of assistance to me when you don't even know me?" Naomi aimed her attention squarely at him.

Naomi was lucky. She has discovered someone who is willing to assist her, but with everything that has happened, was it ever possible to trust anyone again? Or does he intend to take advantage of her as well?

"Miss Naomi, I don't want you to have the wrong impression. A bruised person such as yourself serves no purpose in my life. Is it inappropriate for me to wish to assist you? You are the one who, as far as I am concerned, is in need of assistance, and it is up to you to take my hand, you can also reject my help." Zade shrugged.

His statements were direct and unyielding, yet at the same time, he welcomed her and is making an effort to protect her.

Naomi's stomach gave another grumble, which caused her to halt whatever it was that she was going to say.

"Miss Naomi, if you would follow me, I promise that I won't harm you in any way. You might not trust me now, but I might be your only chance.” After opening the door to the passenger seat, Zade moved to the side of the vehicle and waited for her to make a decision.

He gave her the option of going with him or staying behind.

The options available to Naomi were limited. It was probable that she would starve to death if she did not follow him. She also couldn't go back to her adopted parents house.

Even if she looks for work, no one will want to hire someone like her, therefore there is no use in her even trying.

After making her choice, Naomi got into the car. He was very careful when he shut the door, fully aware that she might have a sensitivity to sudden or loud noises.

After a few moments, he sped off, and they were left behind with nothing but a cloud of dust.

The house, which is found on an isolated estate, was not merely a house but rather more of a mansion than anything else. It seems to be even larger than the mansion that the Bryans live in.

"Come with me." Zade said to Naomi. She climbed the stairs with him and followed him into the hallway.

Crystal chandeliers were strung from the ceilings, and their brilliant light illuminated the passageways below. Naomi had never seen anything like that.

Naomi had neither the time nor the ability to fully appreciate items like this at the Bryan home; nevertheless, she was able to do so now that she has a calm mind, she did not feel any fear in his house.

"You'll stay here in the meantime, and I hope the room is okay for you." Zade came to a halt in front of the room.

Even though it was at the very end of the passageway, it had the most light coming into it.

Naomi opened the door to the room with shaking hands and uttered an audible gasp as she took in the room's opulence for the first time.

"Um… Sir… Are you sure you want me to stay here?”

"You don't like it?" Zade pursed his lips thoughtfully.

"It's not the nicest room in the house, but since it's situated in a quiet area, I felt it could be okay for you to stay there. If you don't like it, we can move on to the next room if that's what you want." Zade did not realise what Naomi meant by her words.

"N… No. I mean, I can sleep in the basement. This place is too nice for me to sleep in." Naomi began to panic.

What if he tried to take advantage of her while she stays here? Why was he providing her with such a luxurious space if he doesn't want anything from her?

Zade let out a long sigh as he saw Naomi trembling. It was going to be exceedingly challenging to provide care for a patient like her. It is going to take a lot of time for her to get better.

"Miss Naomi… Look at me." Although he got rather close to Naomi, Zade refrained from touching her.

"Miss Naomi, please look at me and concentrate on what I am saying. This is the room in this house that is in the worst condition of all of them. It's not possible for me to let you stay in my basement.

"That… After that, I'll be able to rest in a..."

"Miss Naomi, I will let you know as soon as possible if I am able to secure a smaller home for you to stay in, but in the meantime, just stay here, okay?" Zade gestured towards the room.

"You can take a shower while I prepare dinner. I trust you will be able to navigate your way around the room."

Even after he gave her the go ahead, Naomi was still trembling violently. She forcefully swallowed the words she was about to say next.

“Wash up, and then head down to the dinning room for some food. You can always give me a call if you have any questions or concerns."

Naomi closed the door to the big room with caution and then carefully positioned her polyester nylon sleeping bag on the king sized bed.

This was a bed that she had given up hope of ever seeing again in her lifetime.

Her heart overflowed with thankfulness and delight, yet the question remained: could she trust him? Was it reasonable to put all of her faith in the doctor? Despite the fact that they have never met, he was eager to be of assistance to her.

Naomi carefully loosened the straps of her torn dress, but before her clothes completely fell to the floor, Zade knocked on the door.

"Sir?” Naomi called out tentatively. Naomi hurriedly put on her clothes once again and grimaced in pain as her hands brushed along her wounds as she did so.

"Just call me Zade. I'm sorry to bother you, but I just recalled that you were hurt, and it's important that you don't get your wounds wet. In addition to that, I brought a first aid kit with me. Do you want me to assist you in cleaning it, or would you rather do it on your own?" Zade extended his hand and handed Naomi the white box.

He was very careful not to touch her in any way, not even her fingertips.

"I should avoid getting any moisture on my wounds.”

"Yes. Bacteria have the potential to grow on the surface of a wound that is wet. It is important to keep soaps and other chemicals away from any wounds you may have. It is strongly recommended that you simply wipe yourself down with a fresh cloth. I also brought you some clothes, you can wear them.”

Naomi took the clothes that Zade had given her without speaking.

"I'm leaving. If there is anything that you require, please do not hesitate to contact me.” Zade smiled at her before finally leaving. He walked directly to his room and closed the doors. It was dark, the only form of light was the dim table lamp.

He picked his phone and dialled a number. It rang just twice before someone picked it up. Immediately, Zade’s voice went deeper and lower, it sounded more dangerous than the calm voice he was using to speak to Naomi.

“Yeah?” A playful voice came from the other side.

“Where's your older brother?” Zade questioned, sitting on his chair and leaning back, revealing tattoos that were drawn on his upper arm.

“He's not in now, is there something you need?” The person asked.

“Well… Tell your brother that I have good news. I finally found her, she's with me.” Zade informed the other person on the line and then there was a clattering of stuff, and then some cursing.

After it had calmed down, the person asked, “A… Are you serious? You're not joking, right?”

“Yes, I'm not. I've found her, the sister that you've been looking for.”

“Miss Naomi.” “Ugh…” Naomi groaned, turning around to sleep on her side. “Miss Naomi, it's time for you to wake up.” Eva shook Naomi's shoulders lightly, calling out her name softly. Naomi's eyes opened instantly and she stared at Eva with fear in her eyes. However, when she realised who it was, she calmed down, a small smile on her face. “What time is it?” Naomi questioned, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand. “It's 9 am. The Master said not to wake you up as you slept late last night.” Eva answered, holding Naomi's arm as she stepped off the bed. It's been three months since Naomi started staying with Zade, she had begun seeing Dr Marianne Evans, her therapist. Although it had been really slow, Naomi was beginning to not flinch every time Zade touched her. It was different for outsiders, however, not Zade. “Where is he?” Naomi stood up from the bed, stretching and yawning. She sighed in satisfaction when someone pops sounded in the room, her tense muscles loosening. This

Chapter 10 Naomi stared at Zade for a while, she was trying to determine just what he was thinking, not that she could but she wanted to try, though it didn't take her anywhere. “I'll let you think about it for a while. For now, I have something that I have to tell you, you can sit down over there.” Zade pointed to the farthest sofa away from him, but she could still hear him closely. “I've received news about Allen,” Zade began, watching as Naomi tensed up, her body trembling, “He's searching for you as we speak, he has his eyes on the whole city.” Naomi's heart pounded in her chest, her pulse quickening at the mere mention of Allen’s name. She forced herself to sit on the sofa Zade had pointed to, her legs feeling weak beneath her, “He’s… looking for me?” She managed to choke out, her voice barely a whisper. The room seemed to close in around her, the walls pressing in tighter as fear took hold.Zade’s eyes didn’t leave her. “Yes,” He said calmly, too calmly, as if this wasn’t t

Chapter 9 “So which one do you want? My body, my heart or my life?” Naomi questioned at that moment, Zade knew that he had to be extremely careful with Naomi. She was too scarred as a human and he didn't even know the extent of it. So Zade decided to take the hard way out. “Naomi, I apologise if I gave you the idea that I needed anything from you, and I definitely do not need what you have just mentioned.” Zade began, his voice low but calm, “I'm a sought after person, mostly between the ladies and even a few men, I don't need a woman like you to pleasure me, that is, I have no interest in your body nor any intention to take your heart and definitely not your life. I am a doctor, I can't take your life away from you.” Naomi’s eyes narrowed at Zade’s words, her fingers trembling slightly as she clenched her hands into fists. She was used to people wanting something from her, her body, her obedience, her silence. His calm rejection of all three made her feel small, like a broken toy

The man shook his head, not saying anything but Allen had realised what he was trying to say. “So… You still haven't found her yet.” He murmured softly, turning around to stare at the windows. He stood up, crouching a little bit over the table, then suddenly, he swept everything off the table with his hands, slamming them on the bare table. “It has been one week and yet you still haven't found her!” Allen's voice was a low growl as he stood there, seething with frustration. His fists clenched, his knuckles white as he glared at the man who dared to deliver the bad news. The room was eerily silent, the remnants of the objects he'd swept off the table scattered across the floor.“Do you not understand what is at stake here?” Allen took a deep breath and said calmly, glancing at the man who shrunk even further. It was no news to them how wicked and ruthless Allen was. Even now, he was trying to silence a wom

How long had it been since she tasted something like this? How was she…“Mmph…” She tried to choke back a sob, but that proved to be a mistake as instead, she choked on her cake. The sudden fit of cough shook her small body, her chest heaving as she struggled to breathe. “Miss Naomi!” Eva yelled in panic, running closer to her while grabbing a glass and filling it up with water from the dispenser. She handed it to Naomi who chugged it down quickly. “You're fine. You're fine.” Eva said slowly, patting Naomi's back, her touch warm and reassuring. But Naomi wasn’t fine. The taste of the cake, something so simple and sweet, had triggered a flood of memories she had fought so hard to bury. Her mind was pulled back to those days when food was scarce, and she was left to starve, her body weakened by hunger. Her husband’s cruel eyes
