“How many are still left?” he asked Zera, while massaging his temples as he sighs out of exhaustion.
Zera scanned her tablet for the remaining people scheduled for today. “There are still four more,” she answered while looking at her wristwatch that tells it’s already 3:00 in the afternoon.
“Do you want to cancel the rest?” she asked Lucas, who now seems like he will fall asleep anytime soon with his eyes closed.
After a few minutes and multiple exhausted sighs, he rose and stretched out his arms and neck, showing he is going to finish all the remaining people for today. Without a word, Zera went out to call the next client.
A knock on the door was heard and the door burst open. Lucas rose his head and there he saw a full-bearded man in his 30’s with a belly pooch sticking out of his red shirt, he has a full-sleeve tattoo of different kinds of snakes and flowers that look like they have been drawn by a four-year-old kid.
Lucas cleared his throat, without any self-introduction he asked, “Welcome, what can I do for you?” still, even if the answer is too obvious.
The chair creaked when the man sat down, “I want to be hot. Not just hot but like, Jacob Black hot,” he answered as his eyes roamed around the room like he’s in a museum. “But why do you have such wonderful lounge outside and I entered your office filled with all these red lights like suddenly...I feel like I’m already in hell, man.”
Lucas let out a chuckle. “Well, I can make you ten times hotter than Jacob Black, what do you think?” he replied, ignoring the office remarks. His office is just a small room with his table on the center, walls are painted white with no decorations hence the four red bulbs from the corners of the room are reflected on the walls. It has nothing to do with his devilish persona, he just likes the room warm and red gives him warming effect.
Lucas scans through the man’s profile on his laptop and it says the reason that he’s been applying is that he’s been badly bullied all throughout his life and rejected by all the girls he liked. Lucas raised his well-defined brow. Fair bargain my friend, he thought.
“That would be amazing! I want to be the hottest guy in this town, well, I can never be the hottest guy in the world right? That’s too much and it’s not like I’m going to live long,” he beamed, tapping his fingers on the table as he licks his lips which irritated Lucas so much. He tried not to look disgusted.
“Okay Mr. Rancho, your wish is my command." Lucas looked at him with a sly smile. "But first, let me explain our contract so it will all be clear to you. Okay?”
The guy seemed uneasy but nodded his head afterward. “Now, this contract will be valid and irrevocable as long as you live. Your wish shall be granted, in exchange for your life. Do you have any objections?” Lucas explained as he watch the fear wash over the man's face.
"This deal must also not to be disclosed to anyone, failure to comply, I shall visit you in your most inconvenient time.." Lucas trailed off and looked at him intently. "You wouldn't want that, would you?"
“I..I u-understand,” the guy answered, scratching the back of his head.
“Are you all decided and sure that you will never have any regrets?”
“Yes,” a more determined tone came out from the Mr. Rancho's word. Lucas then signed the paper and put it in front of him. He then reached for his dagger and asked for the guy’s hand.
This guy seemed more scared of the dagger than the thought of selling his own life to the devil huh, Lucas thought. As he made a slight thrust onto the guy’s thumb, the blood started to come out. Lucas spread the blood all over the thumb and put it on the paper, getting his fingerprint.
He then collected the paper and set it on fire, the man coughed when the smoke filled up his nose.
"All done," Lucas announced.
“W-what now? Do I look hot already?” the guy asked.
Impatient imbecile.
Lucas sat on his chair and without looking at the guy and wiped the blood from his dagger. “As you walk out of this room, you shall receive what you wished for.” He slightly tilted his head to see the guy’s reaction and to no surprise, he looked delighted.
“Thank you so much!” the guy exclaimed and winced after he slammed his hand with wounded finger on the table. Lucas was just staring at him blankly until he made his way out.
Zera entered the room and collected the ashes of the contract. “Shall I call on the next?” she asks, and Lucas just nodded, feeling sleepy. Zera went outside his office, carrying the ashes and disposed them in the huge Tree of Death in their lounge area.
Domus Malum, or the “House of Evil” is nothing like a creepy place that most movies make as the devil’s nest. Lucas made it look like an ordinary office with minimalist designs, it has a wall of shelves for books, a nice lounge area for the guests and a huge piano beside the Tree of Death, where the contracts of their clients serve as the soil and the tree being fertilized by their souls.
The day went by so fast with a soul taken in every hour, Lucas is now dealing with their last client. Lucas immediately made the contract to a 56-year-old grandma who wants to look young, and young forever. She won’t live too long, and lived already long enough but still chose hell because of beauty, this made Lucas grimace. This is just peak stupidity, he thought.
“We got nothing scheduled tomorrow as you requested,” Zera announced to the weary devil. She still looks all prim and proper despite going all around the whole day. Her beautiful long dark hair made her complexion quite fair that matched her golden eyes and everyday red lipstick, an ethereal beauty for a devil. Her expression does not change, she always wears a cold deadpan facade with everyone, even with Lucas, who really does not mind as long as she does her job. Being appointed by Lucas' father to accompany him in the world of humans, she swore to serve him and only him.
“Finally,” Lucas blurt out in relief. His golden eyes beamed with excitement with the thought of tomorrow. He stood up, arranged his table, put his coat on and tapped Zera at her shoulders with a smirk. “I’ll just have a smoke outside,” he told her as he exit through the door.
It was already dark outside when he got out. The wind ruffled through his hair as the trees around Santuario de Santo Cristo Parish church danced along. He stood right above the ground where his Domus Malum rests beneath.
“What’s a young man doing outside in this time of the night?” a sudden old voice came from behind Lucas. He did not bothered to look at him as he knows it’s the priest of the church. Dressed in his black cassock and a rosary tied up in his right hand, he stood beside Lucas.
“Nothing, just inhaling some good air. It feels stuffy in my home,” Lucas answered as he pop out a smoke out of his pocket and lit it. The priest knows who he is. He knows Domus Malum, and he knows what kind of business they have beneath the church. Yet, instead of crucifying the devil out of their place, he encourages Lucas to find the light. Humans have their own ways of being insane, Lucas thought.
“Well, I hope you’re enjoying the air. You can ask for a tea inside as well,” the priest offered, which Lucas answered with a wry smile. He always thought that humans are just clowns, a bunch of hypocrites, and this world is a whole damn circus. They convince others to lead a good life, to be a kind person so the blessings would come their way, but they also know damn well that they are all sinners, hopeless romantic sinners and undeserving of anything.
He threw the cigarette’s butt to the ground as he faced the priest, who is looking at the full moon. “Or, you can have the tea in my office. It would be a great honor to have you down there” Lucas answered and once again gave a smile to the priest and headed back to his home, six feet underground.
July 19th, Domus Malum is closed. Lucas prepared himself to go out to have some fun, and when the devils are out for some fun, this fun means suffering for humans.
Lucas, looking like a dream with his gray suit and a white polo underneath with the top two buttons left open stood in front of Zera, who was busy arranging clients’ applications for tomorrow and not even sparing a glance on him.
“How do I look?” Lucas spun around.
“Dashing.” Zera just simple answered and turned her back on Lucas. He just sneered and bid goodbye to Zera.
Heading towards his car just beside the church, a nun passed by him and greeted him good morning.
“May God be with you!” the nun said with the biggest smile on her face, unaware of his identity.
“Thanks but no thanks, you need Him more!” the devil replied with a chuckle. He hopped on his McLaren 765LT and drove away like he owns the whole country.
Grammatical and typographical errors are inevitable as English is not my first language. I will surely get back to them once I finished the story. For now, I will do my best to make your reading worthwhile here.
His first stop is Cafe Ysabel. A famous coffee shop downtown where people crowd in like they can’t breathe without their coffee. It has a beautiful Romanesque interior design with a lot of different kinds of coffee and desserts offered. The owner of the cafe is a client of Lucas, who sold his life just so he could attain success in his business. Lucas entered the cafe and the owner, Aeron, approached him immediately wearing a big grin. “Well, well, well, to what do I owe the pleasure of your presence here? Name it and you’ll have it!” His smile annoys Lucas, he just can’t fathom humans’ level of stupidity when it comes to their desires. “Just the blackest and most bitter coffee you have, like your soul.” He winked at him and proceeded to the table beside the window, just right in front of a lady who looks like in her 30’s wearing a nude spaghetti strap dress loo

She put her both arms on the table with her palms placed on her face. She just came back from her doctor’s clinic awhile ago and heard about her condition. “Selene?? A tall lean man wearing a cap and a set of clothes that seemed like they have never been washed for a couple of days already, his eyes are shaking with fear as he gets out a small packetof drugs from his pocket and stick it under the table, the other guy in front of him immediately picked it from under, stood up, and left. Have you ever felt like the clock ticking in every second feels like it is counting down on your last moments in life? The irritating sound coming from it feels like a drum roll on your way to death, mimicking your steps towards to an unknown end. Selene sipped her hot chocolate milk, the rain is pouring hard outside. The roads have been blocked by humongous trees that fell down due to the storm. Hayes decided to suspend work as most office works were canceled as well so there’s not much customers that would go out with this kind of weather. Selene hates the rain. Aside from being stuck in home doing nothing, Faye has been a little freaky about her condition. She wants her to just stay indoors, but when she told her she would not live long, she started to plan trips and set dates for vacations abroad. Fayewants Selene to achieve her dreams of traveling the world, but she also does not want her to get t
“Well? Care to explain what am I missing here or am I just going to take this as my signal to fly away?” Faye said, looking at Lucas and Selene, still staring at each other.“You actually found my place, why are you already leaving without meeting me?” Lucas can’t hide his smile. He thinks that his charms already worked on Selene.“Because I did not go here in my own will,” Selene looked at Faye, glaring. Faye just shrugged at her.“I did not think that your infamous business needs an appointment to get your service, it’s actually a shame because my friend over here needs to wish something big,” Faye put her arms around Selene, “and as soon as possible.”“I can arrange that for you, I just need something in exchange,” Lucas’s smile grew bigger making Selene uneasy. Selene took Faye&rs
CHAPTER 6“You’re kidding.”“I actually get that a lot,” Lucas stood up from his seat and walked towards Selene. The contract says that the wish she made is indeed in exchange for her soul, it shall be irrevocable and must take into effect after the wish has been granted.“What are you?? Are you really a genie? But don’t genies want nothing in return?!”Lucas stopped walking, he is now standing behind her.“Well that’s new, I often get ‘freak’, ‘psycho’, ‘conman’ but don’t worry they are not even close, even with yours, actually.”Lucas was enjoying Selene being confused. He was very thrilled because she is the first human to wish upon him that is not for her own gain, but nevertheless, the same rules shall apply to he
Selene stared at him for a good long minute. Trying to process what he just said.“Look, I am in a situation, and you should actually be glad I did not asked for your soul,” Lucas said, annoyed at her stare.“Are you..offering me a job?”“Yes?”“While I already have a job?”Lucas frowned at her.“Yes? Is there a problem with that? You earn money on one side and earn your forgiveness on the other,” Lucas said, as a matter of fact.Selene scoffed, “You’re unbelievable.”“I don’t know what context of ‘unbelievable’ you are imploring, but thank you.”Lucas turned his gaze to the construction site. This man he was talking about sent an application to them. After browsi
Selene sat on the vacant table at Hayes. The scorching heat made her sweat so much making her feel easily tired. There are not much customers that were dining in despite the clock nearing to tick on 12:00 lunchtime, the sun outside feels like it is just 10 feet away from the land, keeping the people from going out.It has been a week. She woke up at her own bedroom, with Faye frantically rushed on lecturing her about sleeping at their doorstep. She knew she was not sleeping at their doorstep, she came from somewhere else. But that somewhere else was currently out of reach. She did not see Lucas for a week now, when she went to Domus Malum, no one was answering her knocks, she knows he’s just there because his car was parked outside the parish.“Hey, paycheck’s in.” Lora sat in front of her. She handed her an ice-cold juice. Selene mouthed ‘thank you’
I pushed the record button, and the little red circle started to blink. The timer on the top-left corner of the screen flashed the time elapsing inthe video. Ten seconds… Fifteen… I took a deep sigh and smiled. “Faye…” I muttered with a hoarse voice. “Are you watching this? I hope you do. I hope you somehow checked for your clothes’ pockets before throwing them out in the laundry, or else, I’m doing this for nothing.” I chuckled, finding myself silly. “And I hope your brain cells work to realize that what I’ve written was the new password of your computer. I’m sorry for changing it.” I cleared my dry throat as I began to feel the tears already filling up.I looked at the clock, and ten minutes from now Faye would be back at my hospital room. My hands started to fidget. “His name is Lucas. He is from somewhere that is beyo
Chapter 49“Hey.” Calix nudged Selene on her shoulder. She jumped by his touch and her gaze quickly flew at his worried face. “Are you okay? You seemed tired.”Selene forced a smile. “Yeah, yes I’m sorry what were you saying?”Calix sighed, worry still not leaving his eyes. “I said Rebecca’s here.” Calix turned to his side and pointed at a fine and elegantly looking lady talking with some guests. “I want you to meet her. Will that be fine?”“Goodness Calix, of course I want to meet your fiance! Come on.” Selene pulled Calix on his arm and dragged him closer to Rebecca.“Baby,” Calix called her, Rebecca’s eyes landed on Selene and she immediately excused herself from the guests. “This is Selene.”“Oh my goodness finally!&rd
CHAPTER 48 “Good morning Madam, welcome to Nyhavn Hotel. A room for?” Selene snapped from roaming her eyes and diverted her attention at the receptionist. “One,” she answered and smiled. The receptionist typed on his computer with such noisy keyboard. “Room for single bed overlooking at the canals, am I right?” “Yes. And do you serve breakfast?” she asked, after a long second the receptionist turned to her with a key on his hand. He faked a smile, Selene could tell. “Yes, an exquisite breakfast will be delivered right at your doorstep Madam. This way, please.” The receptionist went out of the bar and guided her to the elevator. Selene was not really expecting anything particular in the hotel, just something that she could stay comfortably, somewhere she could picture herself just like in her dreams. “Thank you,” she muttered, dragging her luggage inside the elevator. “I’ll be waiting for the
A knock came at the door, with excited steps and giddy smile, Selene ran towards it. She stopped for awhile to catch her breath and brush her long brown hair with her fingers. She heaved a deep sigh and twisted the doorknob, pulling the door open.“Do you know where’s the police station? Paparazzi’s been harassing me way too often.” A deafening silence took over after the question. Selene stared at her for a long time.“Pfft.” Selene cannot hold it anymore and burst into laughter. “Oh I’m going to throw you out and feed you to those baffoons!” Selene threw a big hug to Faye. She missed the warmth of her hug that was partially caused by her thick emerald coat and scarf tied neatly around her neck under the heat of May.“You look ridiculous,” Selene commented on her outfit. “You really came here wearing that? A sudden loud thunder shook Santuario del Santo Cristo. The detective’s eyes roamed around the parish, meeting familiar gazes among the people. He realized that all of those people that Lucas want to put protection are all here. He gathered them all using a way he doesn’t want to know.“He invited all the potential victims here, while expecting the killer to visit him at the bunker?” the detective asked Sister Bella. They were sitting at one of the benches, patiently waiting for Lucas to follow them inside the church.“He knows what he’s doing. He put everyone here, because the devil knows he cannot enter in God’s home,” Sister Bella answered. “Is he going to be okay?”The detective cannot bear the anguish anymore, he suddenly stood up but the nun was quick to grab his arm. “Where are you going?” she asked.“I’m going
The smell of antiseptic combined with the metallic smell of the equipment made Selene dizzy. She was staring at the ceiling as the nurses push her bed along the hallways to the laboratory. Faye’s head popped to her sight, smiling slightly, she smiled back. They entered a cold room and she was transferred to a flat surface, a huge bright container waiting above her head. She tilted to the side and saw the doctors and nurses along with Faye and Calix, staring at him through the monitoring room. So much people watching her and giving her their full attention as her body started to move towards inside the MRI scanner.Faye lets out an anxious sigh. She looked at Calix who was beside her, also looking all uneasy. “Lucas better be here after her surgery or else I’ll be throwing hands.”Calix snickered. “Throwing hands won’t do anything. And you better let Selene d
“Good morning Ms. Madden, how are you feeling?” Selene’s doctor entered her room with a few nurses behind him. Faye and Calix stood beside her bed as they both helped Selene to sit up.“I’m feeling better, fortunately,” Selene answered with a smile. Her eyes were droopy as she just woke up from her daily needed nap. “Is there anything wrong?”The doctor smiled at her. “Good to hear that, and no. We are actually here to announce that I have received your request.”“What request?” Faye asked, frowning on Selene then on the doctor. The doctor took a deep sigh. “We are going to operate her brain. She made a personal request after I discussed the terms of her current state.”Selene lowered down her gaze. After she decided to be admitted in the hospital, she onl

She stepped inside dragging her heavy bagon her shoulder, carrying crucifixes and countless bottles of holy water. She heaved a deep sigh and felt her lips tremble a bit.She made careful and calculatedmoves on her way to the lounge, slowly pulling the zipper of her bag open. Her eyes darted to the door of Lucas’ office but she quickly diverted her attention, fighting the urge to go inside. When she finally saw the Tree of Death, rotten and lifeless, she closed her eyes and did her ritual. This is where she begins. The detective was catching his breath as he rushed down the station, his keys dangling on his fingers.“I need more b
Lucas felt a sudden jolt on his chest and flew himself right up. He gasped for air but his lungs felt shallow, nothing on his body was pulsating with life. His eyes widened with agitation as his pupils constrict trying to see from the darkness. He pulled himself up after letting the dizziness subside. A familiar cold pierced his skin but it no longer hurt him, he can only feel the scentless fog around, brushing against his pale skin. He exhaled slowly as he took his first step. His hands winging in the air, trying to find something concrete that could guide him. Finally as he took big strides to what seems like a place empty in all matter, his hand touched a rough barrier, he let his hands wander on it until he felta knob. Lucas closed his eyes, readying himself to enter his home. He twisted the doorknob and pulled the door open.A room, with a fire inside a furnace on the side, countless bottle of alcohol o
