Selene sat on the vacant table at Hayes. The scorching heat made her sweat so much making her feel easily tired. There are not much customers that were dining in despite the clock nearing to tick on 12:00 lunchtime, the sun outside feels like it is just 10 feet away from the land, keeping the people from going out.
It has been a week. She woke up at her own bedroom, with Faye frantically rushed on lecturing her about sleeping at their doorstep.
She knew she was not sleeping at their doorstep, she came from somewhere else. But that somewhere else was currently out of reach. She did not see Lucas for a week now, when she went to Domus Malum, no one was answering her knocks, she knows he’s just there because his car was parked outside the parish.
“Hey, paycheck’s in.” Lora sat in front of her. She handed her an ice-cold juice. Selene mouthed ‘thank you’
“Selene,” Calix called Selene to get her attention.Selene quickly snapped back from zoning out. She mindlessly grabbed her spoon and fork, her eyes dropped on the empty table.Calix stared at her, waiting for her to realize that the food has not arrived yet.“Oh,” Selene dropped the utensils and gave an awkward smile. “I’m sorry,” she muttered.“It’s fine. But are you alright? Do you want to go home?” Calix was sincerely worried of her. Ever since they left the house, she was quiet in the whole ride. She did not even noticed that they went to a floating restaurant with romantic candles leading the way to their table.Calix even arrange a whole bunch of musicians that are now playing their second song. But Selene could not hear anything, nor see anything. Her mind was out of
Lucas unbuttoned his shirt. He cannot see any end on what he’s doing. The number of clients he accepts remain the same, but the amount of his work from scanning the applications and going through each background just to make sure that the their wish will be of personal use for their sinful desires took a heavy toll on him. He rested his back on the chair and closed his eyes, he cannot believe that his Father made him do such awful job but refuses to give him four arms and omnipotence. A knock on his door was heard, and Zera entered, carrying a pile of papers. Lucas grimaced. She carefully placed the papers above his table, and sat on the chair. Lucas started scanning the newly-printed-still-warm applications. “We cannot let humans interfere with our work,” Zera spoke, looking intently at Lucas. “I believe I heard that for the
Lucas went back to the mansion. He took big strides, walking hastily, like someone is catching him. He did not bother to knock or to give a sign of his presence and went straight to the living room. The old man was still sitting and drinking his tea, he was surprised to see Lucas again. “Did you forget something?” he asked, but Lucas just launched and grabbed him by the collar. The man got scared to see Lucas’s face, it looked so angry, yet his lips formed a smile- a devilish smile. His eyes are burning with rage, like a predator ready to eat his prey. “I am afraid that I need to take back a pinch of your happiness,” Lucas said and lifted him up in the air with his one hand. “You dirty humans think they can get away with anything!” he yelled. “Look into my eyes!” Lucas spread fear on the whole room. His gold eyes beamed with anger and his lips twitched. He was r
Zera was busy in arranging the rejected applications from the client. These past few days, Lucas has been rejecting applications with reasons that do not sit right with him.He rejected someone who wants to wish for fame, because being famous pays well.Selene is working hard for every money she earns. He rejected someone who’s asking for longer life and take away his disease because he wants to be with his parents for a long time.Selene does not even have parents anymore, yet she does not ask for me to heal her.He rejected all of those who wishes ill to others for their own personal gains.Selene will be disappointed. In every application, he pictures Selene. In every reason they provide, he compares it to Selene’s way of thinking. His ju
“We should head back,” Lucas announced, looking at Selene who’s in front of him. The great weather from yesterday felt like they just have been given a chance to be happy for awhile. The light rain outside made the surrounding all gloomy today. There is not much to do inside the hotel aside from their facilities for recreational activities like billiards, a library, a bar and a rooftop pool. Selene was never a fan of any of those. Selene rose her head and met Lucas’s worried eyes, she is sitting at the end of the bed while Lucas is on his knees facing her. She just got out from the bathroom, tired from the endless puking. She feels dizzy and she wants to do nothing but to lay in bed. “It’s okay, I can manage. You can go outside and breathe some air,” she said with a coarse voice. “I’s raining and it’s foggy outside, and I don’t like being alone.” L
“I can tell you’re not happy to see me,” the man stood up from the chair. His long dark cloak touching the floor. The tall and broad body figure of his Father made his ghoulish appearance even more horrifying. His bright red eyes boring on Lucas as he made his way in front of him.“I am just paying you a visit, Son.” His devilish smirk made Lucas furious. His fists are trembling with anguish.“Oh you think you can fool me, Samael? Of all creatures, your Son?!” Lucas scoffed. This made his Father laugh.Samael, the Angel of Death, the guardian of hell, the one who has the ultimatum for all the sinners, is Lucas’s Father.“I am amazed by how you got my…dubious trait,” he said, with so much amusement in his tone.Lucas turned around and walked to his chair, trying to control
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dearest Selene…” Selene laughed when she saw Faye and Calix in their party hats with polka dots design and puffy balls on top, walking towards her with a marvelous two-tier cake on their hand. They are beside a lake located in one of the forests just meters far from the main road heading to their house. The sun is already dipping down in the horizon, meeting the glistening water of the lake, forming a beautiful sky in purples and oranges above. Calix was able to pitch a tent and set a table filled with Faye’s dishes. “Make a wish,” Faye said and smiled, putting the cake in front of Selene. Selene closed her eyes and made a wish, when she opened them, a candle was lit, waiting for her. She blew it and clapped her hands, her eyes felt moist. “Come o
“This paint is called Tenebris.” Selene’s voice from the mic sounded orotund, she held her script as she tries to stop her hand from trembling. “My inspiration came from a metaphor of person who was struggling to see from the dark, and when she walked over, and over with no sense of direction, no sense of purpose, she saw a dot of light from afar.” Selene walked to the opposite side of the stage. “And when she saw it, she started hoping, she started to run towards it, trying to chase it, all the time that she had been surrounded by darkness seemed insignificant.” The audience was quiet, the spotlight casting on Selene was making her more nervous. “But then, no matter how fast she run, or how long she had been running just to get closer to it, she realized that it was just her hallucination. With her fixation to get out from
I pushed the record button, and the little red circle started to blink. The timer on the top-left corner of the screen flashed the time elapsing inthe video. Ten seconds… Fifteen… I took a deep sigh and smiled. “Faye…” I muttered with a hoarse voice. “Are you watching this? I hope you do. I hope you somehow checked for your clothes’ pockets before throwing them out in the laundry, or else, I’m doing this for nothing.” I chuckled, finding myself silly. “And I hope your brain cells work to realize that what I’ve written was the new password of your computer. I’m sorry for changing it.” I cleared my dry throat as I began to feel the tears already filling up.I looked at the clock, and ten minutes from now Faye would be back at my hospital room. My hands started to fidget. “His name is Lucas. He is from somewhere that is beyo
Chapter 49“Hey.” Calix nudged Selene on her shoulder. She jumped by his touch and her gaze quickly flew at his worried face. “Are you okay? You seemed tired.”Selene forced a smile. “Yeah, yes I’m sorry what were you saying?”Calix sighed, worry still not leaving his eyes. “I said Rebecca’s here.” Calix turned to his side and pointed at a fine and elegantly looking lady talking with some guests. “I want you to meet her. Will that be fine?”“Goodness Calix, of course I want to meet your fiance! Come on.” Selene pulled Calix on his arm and dragged him closer to Rebecca.“Baby,” Calix called her, Rebecca’s eyes landed on Selene and she immediately excused herself from the guests. “This is Selene.”“Oh my goodness finally!&rd
CHAPTER 48 “Good morning Madam, welcome to Nyhavn Hotel. A room for?” Selene snapped from roaming her eyes and diverted her attention at the receptionist. “One,” she answered and smiled. The receptionist typed on his computer with such noisy keyboard. “Room for single bed overlooking at the canals, am I right?” “Yes. And do you serve breakfast?” she asked, after a long second the receptionist turned to her with a key on his hand. He faked a smile, Selene could tell. “Yes, an exquisite breakfast will be delivered right at your doorstep Madam. This way, please.” The receptionist went out of the bar and guided her to the elevator. Selene was not really expecting anything particular in the hotel, just something that she could stay comfortably, somewhere she could picture herself just like in her dreams. “Thank you,” she muttered, dragging her luggage inside the elevator. “I’ll be waiting for the
A knock came at the door, with excited steps and giddy smile, Selene ran towards it. She stopped for awhile to catch her breath and brush her long brown hair with her fingers. She heaved a deep sigh and twisted the doorknob, pulling the door open.“Do you know where’s the police station? Paparazzi’s been harassing me way too often.” A deafening silence took over after the question. Selene stared at her for a long time.“Pfft.” Selene cannot hold it anymore and burst into laughter. “Oh I’m going to throw you out and feed you to those baffoons!” Selene threw a big hug to Faye. She missed the warmth of her hug that was partially caused by her thick emerald coat and scarf tied neatly around her neck under the heat of May.“You look ridiculous,” Selene commented on her outfit. “You really came here wearing that? C
A sudden loud thunder shook Santuario del Santo Cristo. The detective’s eyes roamed around the parish, meeting familiar gazes among the people. He realized that all of those people that Lucas want to put protection are all here. He gathered them all using a way he doesn’t want to know.“He invited all the potential victims here, while expecting the killer to visit him at the bunker?” the detective asked Sister Bella. They were sitting at one of the benches, patiently waiting for Lucas to follow them inside the church.“He knows what he’s doing. He put everyone here, because the devil knows he cannot enter in God’s home,” Sister Bella answered. “Is he going to be okay?”The detective cannot bear the anguish anymore, he suddenly stood up but the nun was quick to grab his arm. “Where are you going?” she asked.“I’m going
The smell of antiseptic combined with the metallic smell of the equipment made Selene dizzy. She was staring at the ceiling as the nurses push her bed along the hallways to the laboratory. Faye’s head popped to her sight, smiling slightly, she smiled back. They entered a cold room and she was transferred to a flat surface, a huge bright container waiting above her head. She tilted to the side and saw the doctors and nurses along with Faye and Calix, staring at him through the monitoring room. So much people watching her and giving her their full attention as her body started to move towards inside the MRI scanner.Faye lets out an anxious sigh. She looked at Calix who was beside her, also looking all uneasy. “Lucas better be here after her surgery or else I’ll be throwing hands.”Calix snickered. “Throwing hands won’t do anything. And you better let Selene d
“Good morning Ms. Madden, how are you feeling?” Selene’s doctor entered her room with a few nurses behind him. Faye and Calix stood beside her bed as they both helped Selene to sit up.“I’m feeling better, fortunately,” Selene answered with a smile. Her eyes were droopy as she just woke up from her daily needed nap. “Is there anything wrong?”The doctor smiled at her. “Good to hear that, and no. We are actually here to announce that I have received your request.”“What request?” Faye asked, frowning on Selene then on the doctor. The doctor took a deep sigh. “We are going to operate her brain. She made a personal request after I discussed the terms of her current state.”Selene lowered down her gaze. After she decided to be admitted in the hospital, she onl
CHAPTER 43Sister Bella run her way down the bunker, her loud beating heart overshadowed her faint footsteps as she sauntered down the stairs, her eyes roaming around, wary. She stepped inside dragging her heavy bagon her shoulder, carrying crucifixes and countless bottles of holy water. She heaved a deep sigh and felt her lips tremble a bit.She made careful and calculatedmoves on her way to the lounge, slowly pulling the zipper of her bag open. Her eyes darted to the door of Lucas’ office but she quickly diverted her attention, fighting the urge to go inside. When she finally saw the Tree of Death, rotten and lifeless, she closed her eyes and did her ritual. This is where she begins. The detective was catching his breath as he rushed down the station, his keys dangling on his fingers.“I need more b
Lucas felt a sudden jolt on his chest and flew himself right up. He gasped for air but his lungs felt shallow, nothing on his body was pulsating with life. His eyes widened with agitation as his pupils constrict trying to see from the darkness. He pulled himself up after letting the dizziness subside. A familiar cold pierced his skin but it no longer hurt him, he can only feel the scentless fog around, brushing against his pale skin. He exhaled slowly as he took his first step. His hands winging in the air, trying to find something concrete that could guide him. Finally as he took big strides to what seems like a place empty in all matter, his hand touched a rough barrier, he let his hands wander on it until he felta knob. Lucas closed his eyes, readying himself to enter his home. He twisted the doorknob and pulled the door open.A room, with a fire inside a furnace on the side, countless bottle of alcohol o
