Abegail’s Point of View.

He moaned as he came. I just laid there, catching my own breath. The terror covered my whole brain and body. I took a minute or two before I regained my full consciousness.

“Damn..” Selvin murmured and dropped his body on the bed. When I found his hands were groping to touch me, I jumped off the bed and ran into our walk-in closet.

I picked up my clothes and wore it. When I came out from the closet, I checked where Selvin was. He was already sleeping.

The sight of him made the side of my eyes warm. I can’t believe that my husband could do this to me. He railed me while he’s drunk, and I was screaming for him to stop, but he didn’t stop.

I came out from the room, covering my mouth to stop myself from sobbing too loud. The whole house is already dark, they turned the lights off. Everybody’s sleeping already.

I groped on the railings of the stairs, and finally, I came out from the place. I need to find my phone as soon as possible! I was a meter away from the gate, I could remember that I dropped it somewhere there.

I went on my knees and started groping around, hoping that no one picked it up. It was literally right here. Damn, why did the moon hide behind the clouds! I can’t see clearly.

As I waved my hand around, I felt a smooth surface and picked it up immediately. “Gotcha!” I snapped, and the feeling of my phone on my hand gave hope inside me.

I opened it and saw many missed calls from Macey. Now, I just have to leave the whole place. I turned the phone’s flash on and searched for my purse. When I saw it, I grabbed instantly and ran away.

Good thing that they had fired the guard on the gate, there’s no one looking out from the gate by now. I opened easily since they don’t close it with chains and locks.

I ran outside, left the gate open, and crossed the road without looking from left and right. A screeching sound was heard, and a sudden flash of light covered my whole version. I screamed in surprise and felt the cold metal hitting my right knee. I dropped on the rough surfaced road.

I took a deep breath as I realized that the impact wasn’t that hard.

“Abe!” It was Macey’s voice. I looked up as she turned the car’s light dim. Hurriedly, she came towards and pulled my arm to help me get up on my feet. “Can you stand?” she added.

“Yes,” I muttered and looked up. When our eyes met, I embraced her with my trembling arms. “Thank you, you’re already here.” Without the will to do so, I cried again on her shoulders.

She hushed and combed my hair. “Shhh,” she shushed. “Let’s go now before they’d find out you escaped. Did they hurt you?”

I can’t voice out my answer when I felt my throat dry, so I just nodded at her. She pulled my arm as she walked to the right side of the car and opened it for me.

“Come inside,” she commanded which I obeyed silently. I watched her walk on the other side of the car to get into the driver’s seat.

The moment I heard the slam of the car door, I blew a lungful breath that I’ve been holding for a while now. Finally, I’m getting away from this place already. I bit my lower lip and felt some of the chapped skin on my lips. I need to drink water as soon as possible.

“Here.”

I glanced on my left direction and saw Macey handing me a water container. I smiled meekly at her, accepted the bottle and started drinking the contents inside.

Oh, I thought it’s water, but it’s really an orange juice.

“I am sorry, was I late?” she asked and started driving away from Jones’ mansions. She turned on the light near the rearview mirror.

I shook my head as the dizziness shot into. “No…” I murmured. “Not really.”

“Damn it!” Macey shrieked and stopped the car abruptly as she kicked the break. The sudden movement made me move forward a little, and the seatbelt was too tight on my chest that also made me hiss in the instant pain.

“Oh, I am sorry,” she muttered. “I should not step on the break all of a sudden.”

“Why?” I asked in a very hushed voice. “Why did you step on the break?”

“Your cheeks looked swollen as hell, Abe!” Macey looked so worried as her hand reached my face to turn it side by side and check my face. “Did they lay a finger on you? They punch you, slap you?”

I didn’t answer at first. I just looked down and started fidgeting my fingers. If I won’t tell her, she’ll still know sooner or later; but if I’ll tell her now, I also won’t know what she can do. However, one thing’s for sure, she’ll bring this to law to save me from the abuse.

“Answer me, dang it!” she snapped, her eyes grew misty as she shook her head. “This is too much, who did this to you? I’ll make sure they’ll rot in prison. This is domestic abuse!”

“You are overreacting,” I murmured and looked out from the window when she continued her driving.

“Overreacting!” she snapped and put her elbow on the window as the other hand continued operating the car. “That’s too much, as if you’re just a dumbass parasite in the family. For Pete’s sake, you’re a human! See your worth, Abe!”

I sighed. “I am really fine..” I mumbled.

“Liar!”

I pulled my shoulders down and took another deep breath then let out in a slow blow. “I just can’t leave Selvin that fast, he did everything to protect me. I owe him my life.”

“Isn’t that a bare minimum in a relationship?” she asked and rolled her eyes.

“What’s bare minimum with you?” I asked. “Macey, he almost got killed just to save me years ago! He risked his life for me, too.”

She shook her head again. “There’s plenty of ways to show your gratitude, and that way you’re doing is not one of those. Do you even hear me?”

I didn’t answer, I just hugged myself and sank deeper on my seat. I know my friend is really concern about me, but I got reasons to stay.

“If you’re not going to leave that household,” Macey said and stole a glance at my direction. “Then I am sorry for you and your future children for staying in that mansion of no freedom.”

I ignored her and stayed silent. Between the silences, my phone rang. I turned its screen and checked who sent a text message.

It’s Sarah.

Her text said: “I saw you with Macey, see you tomorrow.”
