They Thought She’s The One…

Hola! Hope you guys are having a wonderful time unlike me.

I have been constantly checking out the new girl at work, but I can’t seem to really talk to her. Something in me just pushes back, and I really don’t know how to initiate a conversation. At that time, I really didn’t want to botch up my chance in getting to know her better. But time is running out. Seeing that she is so beautiful, I am not the only one who’s attracted to her. I wanted to make a move — but I’d simply let fate determine if she was to notice me.

I had been working with the company for quite a while, so much so that they had picked me up to do support for other employees. I was going about my day when lo and behold, a message popped up and – you already know whose name came along with it.

“Hi! Uhm, I’m trying to figure out how to fix an issue with a customer. Can you help me, please?” said Audrey.

In my mind, I was like, Oh my god! This is it! What should I do?

“Hello, Audrey! Sure! Tell me about it,” I replied.

“We can’t transfer the customer’s ‘following’, right?” she asked

“No,” I answered.

“Right?”

“LOL!” Did I just laugh at her?

“What is it? We can’t?" She's sounding a bit confused.

I was so nervous, but I tried to regain my composure by saying, “We can’t.”

“So he’ll have to do it manually?”

“Yes. And you can just take note of the artists or people you’re following.”

“Cool. Thank you. Are you also able to check the payment method used by this customer? He just wants to make sure that he cancels the right one once we move all the contents that we can move into the new account.”

“Sure. Hit me with the details.” Real fresh, Paul. Real fresh.

And it wasn’t the only time that I was able to help her out with cases during that day. But the timing was amazing when I chose to take my lunch break. I saw that she was on her break too and what are the odds? She was alone. And like an awkward cat, I made my way towards her after ordering food.

“Uhm, excuse me? Is this sh*t taken?” The f*ck am I saying? “Oh, I mean seat! Seat! Is this seat taken?”

She chuckled and said, “No, Paul. No sh*t is taken and yes, the seat is not taken. Please, go ahead.”

“Thank you.” You can imagine my embarrassment as I sat down carefully, virtually patting my stupid mouth.

John Mayer’s “My Stupid Mouth” was playing on the cafeteria radio – which made much sense at that time.

“So, Audrey. I was just wondering, you are single, aren’t you?” Smooth.

“Uhm, I just got out of a relationship, Paul. What made you ask?” She responded, while feeling a bit awkward with my decision to choose that question to open up the conversation.

“Nothing. And you may not see it now, but I’m kinda pleased to know that.” Talk about awkward.

She just chuckled. But a sweet chuckle at that.

“Uhm, what can you say about dating someone new? Like say, me?” I asked.

“You’re still young at heart. Suits me,” she answered.

“An immature SOB,” I said jokingly.

“Or you can call it that", she said.

“Hahaha,” we both laughed.

“But I’m honestly not open about getting into relationships with older men,” Audrey cleared.

“Wtf! Older men?!” shocked at her statement.

“You are 27! Haha!”

“Oh, come on now.”

“There was this guy who’s also 27 and wanted me so bad. And then another… Both are photographers. Uhm, I’m not used to how they move around me or talk to me.”

Interesting.

“And you turned them down? Why, if I may ask?”

“Yes. I’m just afraid that we won’t get along. Because of the age gap. I’m excessively prideful, so I think I’m the immature one in the relationship.”

“What were they like?” I asked, a little frightened.

“You know how Marikina people are? Socially inclined to flex their cash flow. They try out different restaurants, go to different parties. That’s their lifestyle since they are photographers. But I like that they are creative people.”

Damn. I’m a bit relieved because I’m nowhere near the punks she was describing. “They were like that?”

“They’re both geniuses, but meh, it’s like I have to maintain something that isn’t really me if I have to be with either one of them.”

Of course I had to put myself out there. “I am boring. It all boils down to a lot of guys liking you and will like you.”

“I don’t get it though.”

“Why do guys like you?”

“Yeah. I wouldn’t like me if I were a dude.”

“Because?”

“I know I’m weird. My personality depends on the day. I’m awkward and I know I look like a scarecrow right now.”

For real, now? You’re dissing yourself like that? I’d do you one better. “All that stuff you could think of, I also could. Either it could be worked on or just be accepted. Flaws are natural. That brings balance.” As all things should be – Thanos.

“Yes. But all the guys from my past, they all thought that I was the one. Like they’ll never be able to meet someone better. So I can’t figure out what they see about me.

“Do you think I’m like them?”

“Nope. I think you’re not like any of them. Less trouble. Not sure if you’ll find someone better, though.” Then she walked off with a naughty smirk.

I then realized that lunchtime was almost over. I still needed to light a cigarette. It was my vitamin. Still is. I simply waved at her and watched as she headed out of the cafeteria.
