Twenty One.

Staring at the door handle. I couldn’t bring myself to open it again. I had been out of the bedroom a number of times, never making it past the top of the stairs. Anytime I go close, I felt this immense pressure. Maybe a gut feeling, I was unsure. But if I went down, I wouldn't be in my safe bubble.

I did what Mason had told me to do. Sniffing the air, I knew that Nate wasn’t downstairs alone. There were loads of scents, a mixture of old musk. But one thing I knew for certain. They were all powerful.

I was upstairs and I could tell that from here.

Nate had mentioned a meeting, but I didn’t realise they were coming here. I wish that Lola was here. Where was she anyway?

I should just go down. I should find out what is happening. But every time I touched the door handle, I was filled with dread. If the past had taught me anything, it was to not wander in somewhere where I wasn’t wanted.

Backing up, I sit on the edge of the bed. It faced the door, allowing me to see if anyone tried
