At Tideview Manor, Kalus was rendered speechless for a moment when his ex-wife hung up the phone on him.
She was so icy and assertive. How was she the same woman who cried and begged him not to divorce her?
In the past three years, did she not feel anything for him? Did she only tolerate his family for some purpose?
Kalus was becoming more furious the longer he thought about it.
"Mr. Mike, your coffee."
Ian came in and saw his boss's stern expression, so he inquired tentatively, "Have you called the young madam? Did you get her new phone number?"
Kalus hit his forehead in frustration. He was so mad a moment ago that he had forgotten the reason he placed the call.
He thought he would be happy when Amara left, but he was just angry and frustrated because she was with Frank.
How could she play with his emotions?
"Maybe some other time. I am not in the mood to deal with that woman now."
Kalus took the coffee and frowned after a sip.
"What is wrong? The taste is bad."
"But I made it according to the recipe the young madam gave me." Ian rubbed his head in confusion.
"Recipe?"
"The young madam gave a small notebook to me before she left. She wrote down your food and fluid habits and allergies. She even noted down everything that you had with a particular date and time."
So saying, Ian took out the small notebook and handed it over to Kalus.
Kalus took it and stalled to open it.
What he discovered were pages of neat handwriting that was as orderly as Amara used to be, before divorce.
"Put a pinch of salt in the coffee to enhance the flavor. Kalus likes it that way."
"Kalus had two bowls of seafood chowder with fresh scallops this afternoon. I should make it for him more often in the future."
“Kalus doesn’t like sweet foods. Next time, I’ll make cheese crackers or butter cake for teatime. Maybe he’ll like them.”
“I bought several ties for Kalus last year, but he has never worn any of the ones with red elements. Kalus probably hates red.”
Kalus.
Kalus.
Kalus.
Every sentence in the notebook was about him.
Kalus was shocked as he slowly turned the pages. He was also holding his breath as if he was afraid that he would accidentally blow the words on the pages away.
His eyes gradually darkened, and he clenched the book so hard that the paper wrinkled.
"She's examining me in great detail. This only serves to prove that she has ulterior motives!"
Although Kalus had mixed feelings about what was recorded in the notebook, he was still angry with Dera. He thus simply threw the notebook into the bin.
Mr. Mike, don't throw it away! The young madam has worked so hard to discover all this information about you for the past three years. If she doesn't love you, why would she bother to remember your preferences? It's a reflection of her love for you!" Ian promptly picked it up, feeling sympathy for Dera.
"Don't call her Young Madam. She doesn't deserve it!
They then heard some noises outside the study.
It seemed to be coming from the right side of the corridor.
That was Amara's room.
"Go and see what is going on." Kalus rubbed his temples in fatigue.
Ian swiftly went out of the study and returned in a hurry with a multifaceted expression.
"Mr. Mike, Ms. Osita made the noise. She…"
"What did Lydia do?"
"She's tearing up everything in Young Mad… I mean, your ex-wife's bedroom."
"Lydia was throwing a tantrum in Amara's bedroom by this time.
"This bitch! She's just a country girl! Why is she being so arrogant just because the old man spoils her? What's so great about that stupid bracelet anyway?! How dare she look down on me!"
When Dera signed the divorce papers, she left the house with nothing. This gave an opportunity for Lydia to throw Dera's skincare products and decorations by the bed onto the floor like garbage.
The room was in disarray when Kalus came in.
"Lydia! What are you doing?" Kalus frowned.
"I hate that there are traces of her in here!"
Lydia: "If it weren't for her, we would not have lost three whole years together. She took my place, yet she's making me out to be the villain! She's making me out to be a homewrecker!"
"Lydia, you are not a homewrecker. Don't jump to conclusions."
Kalus's eyes darkened. He stooped to pick up the jade toad that had been shattered on the floor.
He was shocked to notice that the statue of the toad winked and flashed a peace sign.
It made him smile.
In the meantime, Lydia opened the closet and threw Amara's clothes out.
"What's this?"
Lydia opened a big box casually and saw a finely tailored man's suit made from costly materials.
"Hah! Is this a gift Amara had prepared for Mr. Denz? Has she gotten herself another husband so soon?"
On hearing this, Kalus looked gloomy and went to take the box.
"Kalus, this woman is awful! I thought she married you because she loved you and would really take care of you. It turned out that she was fooling you!"
Lydia's eyes were red. She picked up the fruit knife on the coffee table and rushed forward to slash the suit.
Kalus had quick reflexes, so he shielded the box with his body.
As a result, the knife slashed Kalus’s arm, and bright red blood soaked through his white shirt.
“Ah! OMG! I’m so sorry, Kalus!”
The knife in Lydia’s hand fell to the floor. She was so scared that she covered her mouth, and her mind went blank. All she could do was cry.
“OMG! What’s going on?!”
Zera came in with a few maids. She was frightened when she saw Kalus was injured. There was blood dropping onto the white carpet, which turned red. "Kalus, why did you cut yourself?!"
"Ian, get a car ready to take Ms. Osita home." Kalus endured the pain and despaired.
"Kalus, I don't want to go home. I want to be with you!" Lydia soon embraced Kalus.
"Right. You should let Lydia stay here. It's so late. She can take care of you since you're injured." Zera wished to seize the opportunity to do a good deed for her niece.
It was in Zera's best interest that Kalus and Lydia got married, so she wished that Lydia could stay overnight and sleep with Kalus tonight.
"No, she has to go home." To her surprise, Kalus insisted.
"Lydia will be your wife eventually anyway."
"When we are married, we will have all the time in the world to be together. Now, she needs to stay at home so that she gets to spend more time with her family. Secondly, Amara and I have not yet completed the divorce, so it's not appropriate for Lydia to stay here."
With the mention of this, Zera had nothing more to say.
Having sent Lydia away, Kalus looked at the state of the room and sighed. He ordered the maids to tidy up the mess.
"Mr. Mike, come and look!"
Ian stood in front of the closet with a look of astonishment and pulled out a decorated costume.
Kalus went and took a close look at the costume. The dress was a soft-pink, smooth-textured material embroidered with realistic peonies. He could see at a glance that it had to be very expensive.
Peonies symbolize real beauty.
His long eyelashes fluttered, and his mind faltered.
"Does the young madam perform on stage? If that's the case, she's fantastic!" Ian admired. He always had a new impression of his boss's ex-wife.
Ian also couldn't understand why his boss despised such a fashionable and beautiful woman.
"Haven't you ever heard of a saying?"
"Huh?"
"Actors are good liars."
Kalus pressed his thin lips into a straight line and felt inexplicably irritated.
I then pulled my hair into a loose bun and topped it with a diamond hair clip. I was dressed in a sky-blue costume and sang "Think of Me" from "Phantom of the Opera," with Frank as my audience. My eyes were captivating and expressive. When the song ended, Frank applauded and smiled sweetly. Not bad! Celeste trained you well. In the good old days, you can surely win the heart of a prince!""Who needs to be a princess? If I have the option, I'd like to be a reigning queen!" I snapped my fingers crisply."Well, our three stepmothers definitely make you feel like a princess." Frank smiled wryly.I looked down and sat next to my eldest brother. I felt sorry for my three stepmothers."Dera, they missed you so much during the last three years. They think about you a lot and have talked to me about you in private.""What did you tell them?""Dera, when you moved out of home and joined Doctors Without Borders, I knew that you were doing that since you were upset with Dad."Frank raised his han
I gazed at Steven.Steven advanced and came forward to open the door."Ms. Denz!"Michael Gordon, the vice president of the hotel, who committed the mistake yesterday, rushed in. He was in such a rush that even Steven could not hold him back.I frowned and observed how Michael rushed towards my table."Mr. Gordon, why do you still linger here? I accepted your resignation so you may go seek a job elsewhere.""Ms. Denz, you can't do this to me! I have worked for this hotel for almost 20 years! I worked so hard for the hotel that I had many illnesses due to overwork. Even your father would not fire me. How could you just fire me like this?!" Michael was sweating profusely while he yelled at me."I've studied the medical history of all the bigwigs of this hotel. Your condition includes fatty liver and gallbladder polyps. You have to be an awfully hungry person." I snarled.Michael caught the sarcasm in my voice and shook in terror. "Honestly, I didn't know that Alia Furniture has been pro
“Lydia?” Kalus calmed down.“Kalus! Come help me!”Lydia cried for help. “I’m in your office lobby, surrounded by reporters! I’m so scared!”“I’ll pick you up now!”Without hesitation, Kalus grabbed his suit jacket and walked out the door.“Mr. Mike! You can’t go!”Ian hurriedly stepped forward to stop him. “Just send your bodyguards to pick up Ms. Osita. If you go in person, the reporters will bombard you!”Kalus’s face was gloomy as he rushed out without any hesitation.“Ms. Osita! When is the wedding date with Mr. Mike?”“You and Mr. Mike are said to be childhood sweethearts. How many years have you known each other?”“What do you think of Mr. Mike’s ex-wife? The article wrote that his ex-wife got between you and Mr. Mike. Is this true?”The reporters’ cameras and microphones almost hit Lydia’s face. Although the bodyguards acted as human shields, the scene was still very chaotic.Lydia pretended to be meek, but in fact, she was overjoyed. She was the one who announced their marita
Kalus brought Lydia into his office under everyone's eyes. The moment the door closed, Lydia started crying and hugged Kalus's waist tightly."Kalus, I'm so glad you came to fetch me. I was so frightened just now…"Kalus's eyes became dark. He raised his hands and placed them on Lydia's shoulders, gradually pushing her away."Kalus…" Lydia appeared puzzled. Why did you do that?" Kalus's voice was cold, his eyes intimidating."Do what?""Why did you go to Savrow Daily to announce our wedding news?"Lydia breathed a silent sigh of relief and hugged him again. "Because I cannot wait to marry you. Do you not want to marry me?I want to, but making the news public like this is not fair." Kalus's expression was firm. He was no longer as gentle-tongued as he used to be."Why isn't it fair? You and Amara are already divorced!""We're not yet through with the divorce, and we promised that we wouldn't finish it until Grandpa's 80th birthday.".Kalus instinctively pulled back from Lydia. "Previo
The sun was setting, painting the sky golden.Kalus sat fatigued in the backseat as the high-end vehicle whizzed its way towards Tideview Manor."Mr. Mike, I have dealt with the people who maligned the young madam. Their accounts have been terminated, and we have filed suits against them. But the hottest trending topic of your wedding news couldn't be silenced." Ian was agitated.Kalus stared out of the window through black eyes.As he headed home, Kalus felt the temptation to call Amara. But he recalled how poorly their last conversation had gone, and he felt a bit self-conscious to go through Frank to talk to her again.Even if she answered the phone, what could he say?Should he apologize for what happened today?Kalus could not apologize, but he felt guilty and trapped. As the Rolls-Royce was approaching Tideview Manor, Kalus suddenly frowned and said, "Stop here."The driver slowed down and stopped near the road.Even before Ian could ask something, Kalus had already opened the c
"Who sits next to that babe? Hold up. Ain't that Frank Denz, CEO of Zz Group out of Hatchbay?"Ryan cocked his eyebrows and raised a sarcastic eyebrow. "I thought Frank was some hermit who's never stepped inside a club in his life. Haha! Has he finally sinned?"Both Kalus and Ryan mistaken Dean as Frank. That was because Dera's brothers were actually quadruplets. Among them, Frank and Dean were identical, so people who were unfamiliar with them could not tell them apart.""Damn! I'm so jealous. That hottie should be my girl. It's a waste for her to be with Frank!" Ryan became more enthusiastic as he spoke.Downstairs, I was smiling sweetly at Dean.Kalus just felt annoyed.Back then, that smile belonged to him alone. What made it worse was that apparently, the smear online said nothing to her. She was still in the mood to have fun.Whereas Kalus had been worried all day. He was either busy cleaning up the mess or thinking of how he should explain it to her."I should shag her this eve
Zeke was so stunned that his jaw nearly dropped to the floor. She was Kalus Mike's mysterious ex-wife, it turned out.Zeke couldn't deny that she was prettier than his sister. If Lydia is not Kalus's childhood sweetheart, perhaps she can't match this beautiful woman."Mr. Mike, even if she were your ex-wife, that's no reason for me to apologize to her!"Zeke would not back down. "Make her apologize to me, then I'll pretend like nothing happened.""If I'd arrived a little later, your bodyguards would have already taken action against her."Kalus's face turned cold. "Even if nothing had happened, that does not mean that you're off the hook. Apologize to her!"Zeke was terrified, yet he still did not show it on the outside.I was flushed since I had been drinking. The only words I heard were "apologize" and "ex-wife." I told myself, 'Is this son of a bitch telling me to apologize?! I'm generous enough not to spin his head like a top!'"That's too much effort. I'd rather just take him to
I was drunk and thought the man next to me was my brother, so I cried. "Why does Kalus not like me? Why…"Kalus's heart constricted as he clamped his lips shut and listened to my grievances."I did all that I could do… I tried so hard… But it appears that the harder I work, the more he hates me. Why? Tell me why?"I turned my back on Kalus and clasped the man tightly. I buried my head in his chest and wept loudly. Tears and makeup defiled his new, clean white shirt.Kalus was as stiff as wood on the pavement. His voice caught in his throat, and he felt the warmth of every drop of her tears seep through his breast and drench his heart. Some time went by before he spoke softly to her, asking, "You really like Kalus?"I raised my face, red and puffy from crying. My scarlet lips opened slightly. The Adam's apple of Kalus bobbed up and down as he fought against kissing me.He even wished that he had not asked this question yet.It did not matter to me whether I still liked him or not.Our
When Kalus returned to Tideview Manor, his whole body was dripping wet as if he had been swimming in his working clothes.Wilma hastily ran over and brought a towel to dry him up, but he gently waved the towel aside and headed up to the second floor, fuming with anger."What happened? Who insulted him?" Wilma questioned Ian nervously."If you have time, you can comfort Mr. Mike later. He was tricked."What?! He is so smart. How does he get scammed?! Did you go to the police? Report it immediately!" Wilma was frightened.Ian vigorously shook his head. "No, it's a complicated case. The police will not act. Mr. Mike has just found his match.""I always advised him to download an anti-fraud application a long time ago, but he just did not want to listen to me. And look at him now, he has been scammed.Ian smiled contemptuously and said to himself, 'Mr. Mike had finally encountered someone he could not manage.'Kalus would even prefer being cheated. This way, at least his ego would remain
The truth was that Kalus did not find any pleasure in gaining his freedom to pursue his own love. Rather, he felt like he could not meet the expectations he had for his relationship with Lydia. There was a knock on the door, which Kalus answered. Ian burst in with a document.“Mr. Mike, I’ve investigated the situation. Zz World Hotel canceled orders with Alia Furniture nine days ago and terminated cooperation with Gold Corporation. But at that time, Zz Group did not disclose Alia Furniture’s quality problems to the media. The outside world was mostly just speculating what happened.”Immediately afterward, Lydia announced her wedding news with Kalus and defamed Amara Kol. That was the time when Zz Group announced Alia Furniture's quality problems, causing a stir.Kalus clenched his teeth. He took out a painkiller with shaking hands and took it to suppress his headache."I heard one of the hotel's vice presidents, Michael Gordon, got a lot of kickbacks from Gold Corporation before Ms. D
I went back to the office. My puppet waitress stood up hastily and walked over, still shaking legs."I was so afraid! Mr. Mike is so good-looking! He also has such powerful charm that I blushed when I saw him. Did I mess up, Ms. Denz?""No, you did exceptionally well."I gave her an envelope. "Here, you deserve it."“Thank you, Ms. Denz!” The waitress took it and felt a thick wad of cash inside. At this time, Steven handed her a confidentiality agreement.“I know you’re an honest lady, but for both parties’ sake, it’s safer to sign an agreement.”I smiled weakly. "Don't reveal any details of what transpired today. If a third party knows about what we spoke in my meeting with Mr. Mike today, then I will consider it your breach of contract and sue you legally."The waitress swallowed hard, signed the contract, and swore repeatedly not to reveal anything before leaving the office."Aren't Kalus Mike so heartless, I mean, supposedly? I think he is nothing but a lovesick fool! Don't you th
"Hahaha…."I laughed loudly, so my puppet also had to laugh mockingly.Kalus furrowed his eyebrows."Enjoy the compliment, Mr. Mike. But you need not be humble. I can make hundreds of such calligraphy pieces a day, so it is no great loss to you if you take one from me."I smiled mockingly, and Kalus's face stiffened. He clenched his fists into small fists."Mr. Mike, I know that you didn't come all the way here only to admire my writing. Down to business already." I had no time to waste and I spoke bluntly."To tell the truth, I am here concerning what happened to Gold Corporation. Hope you can lighten up on crushing them, Ms. Denz. Negotiate for terms on that, we can."Kalus's tone was low, and his stare was suffocating. "Anyway, I'm sure that you will be more rewarded working with Mike Corporation in the future, especially in Savrow.""Are you suggesting I'm suppressing them, Mr. Mike?I erupt into laughter. "I had made a complaint for a minute's sake alone to expose profiteers so o
"Mr. Mike… I simply can't continue anymore!" Ian panted while they trudged along the stairs. The hotel ceiling was extremely high, so the floors required extra steps than usual. Ian had already started breathing hard before reaching the 8th floor. His legs ached, and he was already contemplating giving up.A man should not give up so easily. There are just two floors remaining. Hurry." Kalus prompted Ian as he ascended the stairs without breaking his composure.Kalus was 30 years old. He was two years older than Ian but had served as a soldier in the peacekeeping force in his early days. He had retired from the army, exercised often, and practiced martial arts and hence his physical fitness was much better than that of ordinary people. He could still climb another 20 floors if he had to, as when he was in the army, he would have to run at least 30 laps during their night run. Finally, they reached the 40th floor. Ian sat on the stairs and panted hard, while Kalus glared at him icily a
As I put the phone down to my elder brother, Steven ran in here scowling."Ms. Dera, Kalus Mike came over again! The impudent creature! Too bad he didn't make a vocation out of peddling insurance!""His diligence at taking care of his dear fiancée is just something to marvel at."I didn't even raise my eyes. I was busy signing forms. But Steven could sense a hint of bitterness and jealousy in my voice. He was not sure if he dreamed it."Ms. Dera, I will personally go downstairs and shoo him away.""No, invite him up." I snapped the lid of my pen and raised my eyebrows."What?!" Steven was surprised."He's so persistent and came three times just to glance at me. I must show him respect."I leaned forward and stuck out my cute little feet.Steven hurried over, dropped to his knee, and helped me into my high heels."Go to the restaurant on the first floor and fetch a girl with a pretty face and a good argument. I have something planned."Ten minutes passed, and Steven brought a waitress
The next morning, Kalus dressed up nicely in a suit and leather boots. He was handsome and dignified looking as he stood before the Zz World Hotel in top condition. The moment he stepped into the hall, he was physically and psychologically comfortable.Kalus was there once before last year, and because he is a no-nonsense, demanding person, he had spoken its standards about. He had a perception that the hotel was inefficiently managed and had nothing much to be proud of.But when he stepped into the hotel again, Kalus felt the difference. The hotel was immaculately restored and exuded the high levels of a fine hotel.Clearly, Dera Denz was a good manager. She was an opponent with whom he couldn't be indifferent."This is Mr. Kalus Mike, CEO of Mike Corporation. He would like to see Ms. Denz. Kindly convey the message to your general manager."Ian had to make several attempts before he eventually found Dera's administrative secretary and explained the reason they were there."I'm sorry
Kalus, did you hear what happened?" Gregory asked with a frown, as he comforted his wife."I heard. The person who made this news known is the new general manager of Zz World Hotel, Dera Denz."Kalus lowered his eyelids, deliberately not gazing at the lovers in front of him.Gregory had never been so gentle to his mother, or to him, in his recollection. Perhaps Gregory had forgotten what Kalus's mother looked like."The Denz family from Hatchbay?!"Zera clutched her mouth and exclaimed, "That's the richest family in Hatchbay! How could my sister's family have possibly offended them?!""We have never had any relations with the Denz family because our ancestors fought a bitter war against each other. Wyatt Denz's great-grandmother made a vow that none of the Denz family members could ever marry a Mike. Whoever goes against this will be disowned by the Denz family and will not be entitled to anything."Kalus did not care about this because the woman he wanted to marry was Lydia, not Dera
"Dera Denz… I have a feeling that I've heard this name somewhere before." Kalus massaged his temples and muttered to himself."I made a detailed inquiry about Ms. Denz," Ian presented in his report.Kalus's eyes gleamed with the thought, 'Finally! This useless secretary is one step ahead of me!'"Tell me the result.""I couldn't find anything about her." Ian shrugged his shoulders and spread his hands in a helpless manner.Ian, I think you should report to the human resources department to sign your salary tomorrow." Kalus's eyes were cold."Mr. Mike, calm down! It is not that I don't want to ask about her. It is just that Ms. Denz's information is like a top-secret file. I really cannot do anything in that matter."Ian's face whitened in fright, and he wiped his damp hands with trembling hands. "Don't you think it's strange? All I could learn about Ms. Denz is that she is the only daughter of Wyatt Denz's first wife. And yet, nothing about her is online. I've attempted to search for
