Rejection

"Wh..What's going on?" Scarlett finally cried out as she looked down at herself to see what was happening but everything was how it used to be..

She was supposed to be morphing into her wolf not standing still like a soldier at attention. The clock had already struck twelve, twenty minutes ago and she was already twenty one. By right, she was supposed to have morphed into her wolf twenty minutes ago and by now she would be having her Luna ceremony but all of that was not happening.

Scarlett looked around with wide eyes and the look she saw on the faces of her pack members made her heart stop beating. When it did start beating again, it was fast like she was running a marathon.

Her breath clogged up in her throat when her eyes fell on her boyfriend and Alpha. Panic filled her and she felt like she couldn't breathe anymore when he shook his head then turned around to disappear into the dark of the night. The woman who had been standing beside him gave Scarlett an evil smirk before turning to follow after him.

She couldn't possibly, no, she couldn't possibly be among them right? When she did not get her wolf at age eighteen, the pack was happy. It only meant that her wolf fell into the category of stronger wolf's who could only get their wolves at twenty one.

Her eyes frantically searched the crowd and when it rested on her father's face, Scarlett nearly collapsed to the ground as what was happening finally registered in her head.

"Oh moon goddess, Scarlett is wolfless"

"That can't possibly be true. She is supposed to be a beta female"

"Oh please, can't you see? It's been twenty minutes and no one have ever delayed that long in getting their wolf unless they can't get a wolf"

" This is so sad. And to think that she was supposed to be Luna. Now we are stuck with evil Olivia"

" No no, that's not true. I'm not wolfless, my wolf is coming it's just taking a lot of time" Scarlett screamed frantically as she tried to assure the pack? Or herself?

Scarlett shivered as the cold wind blew, scattering her hair and blowing it forward to cover her face. She pushed it back as she closed her eyes and tried to concentrate and block out the pack's voices.

Scarlett tried to remember all the lessons she has been taught and she braced herself for the pain she has been told that comes along with getting one's wolf.

Nothing

Like before, nothing happened. There and then, Scarlett finally realized that everyone was right, she was wolfless. When she opened her eyes, she could see that some people were already leaving while some were giving her mocking eyes and others were throwing pitiful looks her way.

Scarlett grabbed her white gown and ran over to her father who was standing with his face white and pale with shock.

"Dad, it's a lie right? My wolf is coming" she grabbed his hands and shook his as her eyes frantically searched his, looking for assurance but he continued to look at her just like everyone else. With pity.

Her chin began to wobble and her eyes clouded with tears, "Dad, answer me!!" Scarlett burst into heavy sobs when her father did not respond and she collapsed to the ground, "it's a lie right? It's just a dream right? I'm still going to be Luna right?"

" Scarlett" 

Scarlett felt a soft but familiar pair of arms wrapping around her. It was her best friend Willow and she was also crying 

Scarlett turned around to grab Willow. Her eyes that were blurry with tears searched Willow's "it's a dream. I will wake up soon, right Willow??" She cried

Willow shook her head. Her body was also shaking as she cried alongside Scarlett, "I don't think it's a dream but I also wished It is. You couldn't get your wolf Scarlett"

" No," Scarlett yelled vehemently as she pushed Willow away like she was the curse of her problems, "It's all a lie. You are all liars, my wolf is coming, it's just taking time. I'm still going to be Liam's Luna, he promised"

Everything was going good for Scarlett. Before tonight, that is. Her father was the beta of the former and late alpha of the pack. She was her father's only child and was supposed to inherit his ability and have a beta wolf. 

As she grew up, she took her fighting lessons seriously and she was amongst the hundreds of women in the pack that wished they would one day catch the eyes of their brooding but incredibly handsome alpha, Liam.

Scarlett nearly went crazy and she threw a small party at her house when she caught his eyes in the training field one day and when he asked her to be his girlfriend, her life was set. She was supposed to be his Luna and everyone was waiting for her to get her wolf.

Liam threw a big birthday party for her on her eighteenth birthday and the celebration exploded when she didn't get her wolf. It only meant that her wolf would come when she was twenty one and that she would be stronger but why was any of these not happening now?

In the history of werewolves, only one percent of them couldn't get their wolf. It rarely happened and the last time it did, it was over a thousand years ago.

Willow moved forward on her knees and grabbed Scarlett again in her arms. The best friends hugged themselves as they continued to cry.

Scarlett's eyes lit up with hope when she saw Liam coming back again and she didn't even notice that he now had Olivia hanging onto his arm like a leech nor did she notice the bright red stain of blood on his lips.

Scarlett shoved Willow aside and rushed over to him.

"Liam, it's not possible right? I'm getting my wolf soon and then I will become your Luna, right?" Scarlett asked as she tried to stare into his eyes and find the assurance that she needed but he was refusing to meet her eyes.

"I don't think that will be possible Scarlett" Liam told her

Scarlett felt her heart freezing with fear at how cold his voice sounded, "Wh… what do you mean by that?" 

Liam finally turned his eyes to her, "You couldn't get your wolf. I can't have a Luna without a wolf so therefore I, Alpha Liam Watson of Blood moon pack rejects you, Scarlett Osborne as the mate I was supposed to have. Olivia is now my mate. I have marked her and she would be having her Luna ceremony in three days time"

Everything slowed to a stop for Scarlett as his words washed over her. She felt like the weight of the world was pressing down on her chest and she couldn't breathe as she fell to the ground.

Scarlett

remained on the floor, cold and numb as Liam turned away and left with a smiling Olivia. She was still there after everyone left.
