It's been two months already since two men rescued Scarlett and brought her to the city. Scarlett never heard from them, and when she asked the hotel's receptionist she did not get any meaningful information about who these men were.
They not only paid for her stay at the hotel, they also asked the hotel to call a doctor for her and also got her new and warm clothes. After three days, she was able to get up from the bed and move about because of her werewolves blood.
Scarlett did not have enough time, nor did she try to create one to sit down and think of her life. She wanted to forget everything like it was a bad memory. It was easier said than done. Not when she sees everything in her dream every time she closes her eyes. Not when every man who had dark hair and green eyes looked like Liam or every blonde-haired woman looked like the antagonist of her life story, Olivia.
The money that was given to her by Liam was only enough to rent a small house in town and buy enough food to last a month, so she had to quickly find a job. Luckily, she got a job to serve customers at the same hotel the men brought her to.
Scarlett, who had never brushed her own hair, had a rough time serving customers. From not knowing how to balance plates on her tray to breaking it and wasting food. Thank God, the owner was kind enough to give her many opportunities.
She spent her days working and trying not to think and then her nights, reading books she borrowed from the library, but in the end, she always ended up having dreams about her banishment.
“A new customer just arrived, and he is asking for you to serve him Scarlett” one of her co-workers tapped Scarlett on the shoulder and informed her
Scarlett rolled her eyes. Since she got here, many of the customers had been trying to get her alone. It was the same with other girls, but she was not interested. She wanted nothing to do with men in general.
“As you can see, I'm having lunch, Mary. Just tell him that I'm indisposed and serve him” Scarlett told the girl and prepared to concentrate on her food.
She did not eat breakfast because she woke up late, which was unlike her and was rushing to work. Now that it was lunch time, she felt like she was about to die. It wasn't just that, she has been feeling dizzy lately and has also been vomiting and having morning sickness. Scarlett just took it as her body system trying to get used to the change of environment and living with humans.
“It's Mr. Bandini and you know he is a big customer. Miss Zelly won't be happy if we offend him” Mary told her.
“Oh hell” Scarlett groaned before shoving another spoonful of food in her mouth and getting up. She covered the food before picking up her apron and walking out.
Miss Zelly, the owner of the establishment, has been good to her, and she doesn't want to offend her, but even if she wasn't eating, she wouldn't want to serve me Bandini. The man wasn't like the other men who wanted to force themselves on her. He was polite and calm, handsome even and rich, but she didn't want him.
She met him in her second week of working in the hotel, and he has been trying to speak with her, but she kept turning him down. She didn't want to be friends, and she definitely did want a relationship.
He was on his phone when she got to his table. She cleared her throat and plastered on the polite smile she used on every one of her customers, “Welcome to Zelly, what would you like to order today?”
Mr. Bandini looked up, and a sparkle appeared in his eyes, “it's so good to see you again. I want….”
Scarlett wrote down everything he ordered before turning away but reached out to grab something when she felt the world spin. She grabbed his shoulders.
Mr. Bandini was out of his seat almost immediately and grabbing her around the waist and shoulder, “are you okay, Scarlett? You look pale”
Scarlett squeezed her eyes tight and when she felt like the world had stopped moving, she opened them and nodded, “I'm fine. I just felt dizzy for a bit”
“ Are you sure? You can sit for a while with me and allow someone else serve me”
Scarlett moved away from his arms and gave him a polite smile, “I'm definitely fine and would be back with your orders in a jiffy”
She turned away from his concerned eyes and walked to the kitchen to deliver the orders to the chef.
Scarlett thought that her dizzy spells would stop after eating her lunch, but it persisted. By the end of the day, she had already almost collapsed to the floor five times.
As Scarlett walked home with heavy footsteps, she gave a silent prayer that she wouldn't fall until she got home, but her prayers were not answered. As the building she lived in appeared in her line of sight, another dizzy spell hit her, and she couldn't stop her eyes from rolling into the back of her head or her heavy body from falling to the cold hard pavement with a thud.
**
Scarlett blinked slowly as she forced her eyes open, but immediately shut it when she was attacked by a flood of blinding light. She tried again until she could finally keep her eyes open to take in her environment.
She froze and her heart sped up when she saw different medical instruments and smelt the disinfectant in the air. She was at the hospital.
“Hey, thank God you are finally awake”
Scarlett's head snapped in the direction of the familiar voice, “what are you doing here?” What am I doing here, was what she wanted to ask Mr. Bandini.
“I was driving home when I saw you walking home. I wanted to offer you a ride, but you suddenly fainted, so I brought you to the hospital”
“Right” Scarlett drawled as she looked up at the ceiling. “So what did the doctor say is wrong with me?”
“I think it would be better if you heard it from the doctor's mouth” he was peering at her with an unfathomable expression that made her uncomfortable.
She was supposed to be scared when he refused to tell her what was wrong, but she figured that nothing more could go wrong in her life after her banishment. Nothing could be worse than that, especially if the banishment came from a man who was supposed to stand with you against the world.
The doctor came in minutes later, and the first question she asked was if Scarlett was married.
“Hello dear, I'm doctor Imelda” the doctor smiled and waited for Scarlett to return it. When she didn't, doctor Imelda continued, straight to the point,” are you married, Mrs. Scarlett?”
Scarlett nearly rolled her eyes. Doctor Imedal asked if she was married and, without waiting for her response, goes on to calm her Mrs.
“I'm not married, doctor. Why? If there is anything wrong with me, just go ahead and tell me” she was so tired that even after just waking up, she wanted to immediately go back to sleep. The hospital bed was much more comfy than the mattress she uses at home, she wouldn't mind staying here for days, only that Miss Zelly would mind.
Doctor Imedal sighed and shot a look in Mr. Bandini's direction. When he nodded at her, doctor Imelda opened her mouth and told Scarlett exactly what was wrong with her, shattering her world in the process. “you are two months and a week pregnant”
All color drained from Scarlett's face.
After doctor Imelda's words, all the colors drained from Scarlett's face, but she immediately shook her head in denial, “I'm not pregnant, doctor. I think you should conduct another test” she couldn't have gotten pregnant from that one night she spent with Liam, right?Doctor Imedal gave a tired sigh like she expected this and has gone through stuff like this countless times, “you are pregnant, Miss Scarlett. I'm very sure of it” she explained slowly.Scarlett clasped her hands together as she immediately made a decision. There was no way she was keeping the baby. Liam wouldn't want the baby, and she didn't either. There was no way she was going to give birth to Liam's child. She didn't even have enough money to feed. How was she supposed to take care of a child? She was not even emotionally stable, either.Scarlett turned to Mr. Bandini, “can you give doctor Imelda and I some privacy? I want to discuss something with her” Mr. Bandini was on his feet before she completed her words, “
Scarlett's eyes turned cold, “and who are you to tell me what to do?” It was okay if he helped her, but it was not okay to poke his nose in her business or try to tell her what to do just because he helped her.“Your friend” he told her before moving close to the bed, “why don't you use my phone to call him? You might not be together with him anymore, but no man would want his child aborted. You can work out something with him for the child. Believe me, you don't want to kill an innocent child because of the issue you have with the father. You might regret it for the rest of your life”Scarlett went cold at Alex's last words: you might regret it for the rest of your life, and she lost her appetite. She pushed the remaining food away from her.He seemed to have noticed because he immediately apologized, “I'm sorry if I offended you with my words. I'm just trying to look out for you and make you think twice about your decision. Regret is not something I wish on anyone, not even on my en
It's been three whole weeks since Scarlett found out that she was pregnant and decided to keep the child. Just as she thought, it wasn't easy for her. Doctor Imelda had told her the last time she went to the hospital for a check-up that she had noticed some abnormalities with the child, as it seemed like her baby was growing faster than a regular child.Scarlett knew that there was absolutely nothing wrong with her child. The only reason her baby was going quickly was because it was a werewolf baby. Werewolves gave birth faster than a regular human. She knew that she would go into labor at exactly seven months, but she could not tell the doctor that. There was nothing she could do about it, so she would just let them draw their conclusions when the time came. The pregnancy was not going easy on Scarlett as she not only had to go to work every day, she also had to battle with morning sickness and all the other troubles that came with being pregnant. She had nearly collapsed a few times
“Scarlett” doctor Imedal raised her head from the documents on her table to smile at Scarlett and Alex, “I'm glad you could make it”“Yeah, me too”“ I doubt you would have made it if I didn't come to drag you” Alex whispered for only Scarlett to hear, earning a glare from her.“Shut it” she snapped, making him snicker as they both took a seat in front of doctor Imelda.Scarlett had missed her appointment twice when she forgot about it. She did not have a phone and refused the one Alex bought for her, so he couldn't reach her; he went on a business trip. On her next appointment after that, doctor Imelda had not been happy and had told her countless times about why she should not miss her appointment again: her pregnancy did not look normal to doctor Imelda and her body was not well, she needed to be monitored.“Alright, let's move to checking the baby to see if he or she has decided to reveal their gender”With a deep sigh that was released through her mouth, Scarlett stood up and wal
“What do you mean when you told doctor Imelda that you would take the matter of me not doing laborious work up with me?”“ You understand what I meant, Scarlett. Doctor Imelda is right. If you want both you and the baby to be fine, then you need to stop stressing yourself "“ I need to stop stressing myself” Scarlett said with a sarcastic smile, “I have to stop stressing myself then who would feed my baby? The only thing that's stressing me is my job, and if I stop that, who would feed me and my child? Would manna fall from heaven to us?”He was about to start the car but allowed his hand to drop from the ignition key to his lap. He moved on his seat to face her the way the seat belt could allow him before dragging him back,” Of course it wouldn't, but I can be bringing you manna every day”Scarlett looked away from him to face the window, “Don't start with me, Alex. I have already told you before that I wouldn't be accepting more things from you. You have done more than enough for me
“Scarlett,” Alex called as Scarlett took off her seatbelt and was going to step out of the car in front of her house. She stepped down first before turning to look at him, “Yes?”“Remember what doctor Imelda said,” he raised a hand when he saw that she was going to argue, “It if for your own good, and you know it well”Scarlett sighed dramatically, “I know but… “ He cut her off, “no but's. I have a preposition for you”“ What preposition?” She bent and shoved her head back inside the car, so she could hear him properly without straining her ears and also see his face while he spoke. Alex's eyes widened in panic at what she was doing, “Hey, don't do that. Let me come out instead.” He took off his seat belt and stepped out, ignoring her eyes roll as he slammed the door shut and walked to where she was standing on the opposite side of the car.“What preposition?" She asked as she gazed up at him with arms folded across her chest. “We need to sit and talk about this.” He had hoped tha
“Okay, fine. I will be coming with you”Alex went still for a moment. Shock could be seen in his eyes before it changed into excitement. He leaned over to grab her hands in his, “Do you really mean it?”“Yes” she couldn't contain her smile in the face of his happiness. It was contagious. “That's so good." Alex felt like jumping to his feet and pumping his hand in the air to show just how excited he was but felt like it would be too much, too feminine, so he contained himself and remained seated as he released her hand from his.“When are we going?” Scarlett asked. Though he just told her about moving, and she just accepted to do it, she was already looking forward to it.Scarlett was already tired and bored with this small town. She had wished so much in the few months that she had been here that she would leave for another bigger City, but more that it was impossible, especially as she had no money. Here was an opportunity, she won't allow it to pass by her. She would be a fool if s
“Do you feel comfortable?” Alex asked Scarlett after helping her to lay on the bed and covering her with a blanket.“Yes, thank you” she told him, her eyes lifting to meet his as she curled her hands around the white fluffy pillow and hugged it to herself.“Goodnight” he told her as he rose to his feet from where he had been kneeling beside her bed, “I'm just in the next room. Come find me if you need me and press that button there if you feel hungry before it's day time” he pointed at a big white button on the wall that looked like a switch. “ Okay thank you”“ You are welcome” there was absolutely no need to ask her to stop thanking him because she wouldn't.“Alex?”He was almost at the door when he heard her call him in a soft voice. He whirled around to look at her, “Yes?”“Thank you so much,” she told him.His lips spread in a wide smile. He had just thought of stopping her from thanking him and just as he thought, she couldn't be stopped, “You are welcome, goodnight”.“Sleep we
