Chapter 6

It's been five years.

AYSEL'S POV.

"He accepted our invitation," Adrian informed me as he popped himself down on the couch beside me. My heart surprisingly did a double flip at his words, as I realised I was finally going to be seeing my ex-husband tomorrow, after five good years.

"Do you think he knows yet?" I enquired from Adrian, turning to look at him with curiosity obvious in my orbs, but Adrian just shrugged, his attention fully on his laptop.

"I have absolutely no idea, but what I do know is that tomorrow's meeting won't be pleasant," Adrian replied, and I nudged closer to him.

"How do you know that? He might not even look at me twice once we arrive or be interested in me at all. Remember, he was the one who requested a divorce, and the love of his life still seems to be around," I reminded Adrian, whose side of lips curved up instantly into a dreadful grin.

"So you don't know," he murmured, more like saying than asking me. My brows rose up, arching at him.

"Know what?" I questioned him, having a feeling he was bringing good news.

"Your ex-husband and his mistress are no more," he replied, and I froze, my eyes growing so wide they almost popped out of their sockets.

" What?" I gasped, and Adrian nodded. My tummy surprisingly felt warm, like butterflies were rumbling inside, and I also couldn't control the smile that was fighting to come onto my face.

"Bu b, but t, that's not possible." I stuttered, and Adrian's face scrunched up into a frown before he turned away from his laptop to look at me. I made sure the smile was gone and replaced instantly with a frown.

"And why do you say that?" He asked, annoyance obvious in his tone.

"Raven loves her so much. I saw it with my own eyes," I pointed out, and Adrian looked at me for awhile, like I had grown three heads, before he burst into laughter.

" So? It's been five years now. She could have bored him. " He suggested it to me, but I shook my head sideways, refusing to believe that, though I wished that was the case. There was more, and I wished to know.

"There is more to it," I commented, and Adrain let out a weary sign before asking.

" Like?". I kept quiet for awhile, thinking of a suitable reason but getting none.

"I don't know," I muttered.

"Exactly. We don't know, so we shouldn't care because this will be an advantage for us." He told me, and my eyes went dim.

"By the way, shouldn't you be happy instead?" He enquired, and I turned to face him, my eyes alert.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, this man abandoned you because of her; now he has abandoned her, which means he probably regrets chasing you out in the first place unless he is a Playboy, which I am 100 percent sure he is not," Adrian pointed out, surprisingly defending Raven in the process and talking like he knew him personally.

' Does he?' I wondered within, a mix of curiosity and confusion appearing on my face.

"Why do you speak like you know him so well?" I decided to ask and thought I saw Adrian's face lose all its colour, but when I blinked, it was just like I was hallucinating; his expression was normal.

"We were once close business partners, weren't we?" Adrian replied, and that made sense.

"Before he got greedy and cheated me," he added, and I felt hate crawling in my heart for Raven.

' How could he have the mentality and consciousness to cheat such a nice man as Mr. Night? That was so unlike him'.'I thought and then remembered I knew nothing about my husband; I thought I knew him but got proven wrong.

"I hope once we see him tomorrow, your mind won't go all weak and you will want to back out." Adrian asked as his fingers stopped typing on his computer immediately.

I let out a giggle.

"Of course not; I wish for nothing more than to see his downfall," I commented, and somehow those words didn't fit right into my mouth. I still couldn't imagine myself hurting him, despite everything Raven did to rip my heart out.

"You better," Adrian spat out, the threat obvious in his tone, his orbs darkening, and for the second time, I felt wary of him. My mind was nagging me to back out now, but I proved stubborn and refused.

I had made a promise, a deal, and signed a contract. Besides, I wanted my revenge too, but only if I had listened to my gut feelings could things have still been saved.

"I better turn in early then; tomorrow will be a great day, but at the same time, long and stressful," I said as I got out of the sofa, bent to peck Adrian slightly on his left cheek before heading towards my room.

Aysel,""he called, and I stopped in my heels, not turning around. My back was facing him as I replied.

" Yes?".

"Do you finally have an answer for me?" He enquired, and I gulped down my saliva, knowing my answer was negative. The room suddenly turned hot, and there was a dragging silence for a minute or so.

" Aysel?" He called out again.

"No," I replied abruptly. "I need more time," I added, trying to stabilise my heavy breathing.

"It's been three years since I asked you now." He reminded me like I had forgotten.

"I still need more time," I insisted, not having the guts to turn around and look him in the face.

"Alright then, I will continue to be patient," he told me, but I could sense he was getting impatient with the tone of his voice.

"Thank you," I appreciated, and I instantly dashed into my room, my hand on my chest. I was breathing heavily.

A lone tear fell out of the side of my eyes as I whispered.

' Why can't I forget you?'.
