Ariella's POV
The next morning, as soon as I opened my eyes, I saw the man lying beside me. The warm sunlight bathed his face, casting a golden glow that accentuated the perfection of his pronounced nose. I have to admit, he was incredibly handsome, like the masterpiece of the most exquisite sculptor. I marveled at the thought, but soon felt a sense of loss. He was the Alpha of the Thron Pack, and also the uncle of my ex-fiancé. How could I possibly be with him? A bitterness spread from the depths of my heart. I remembered the panic I felt when I saw him sleeping beside me that morning. Yet now, it seemed as if I had grown accustomed to his presence. I shook my head vigorously, deciding to push these thoughts aside and not dwell on them further. Suddenly, the man's voice came from beside me. "Are you awake? So are you planning to sneak off again, leaving ten dollars behind?" His voice was as melodious as the clear springs in the mountains, yet it carried a hint of coldness and detachment. I turned away, trying to hide my unconscious blush. "I suppose so," I replied. "Goodbye, Alpha Matthew." "Wait." He called out softly, grasping my wrist. The warmth and roughness of his calloused hand brought me an inexplicable sense of comfort. My brother and father's hands were like this too. Thinking of them, my eyes grew misty. I held back my tears and turned to ask, "What is it?" "It's my Beta's business card. If you're interested in doing some part-time work for my pack, you can contact him." "Okay." I nodded, feeling something within me touched. He remembered our conversation from yesterday. It seemed he was genuinely willing to help me. I took the business card and was shocked after a mere glance. My wolf, Lia's voice, echoed in my mind, confirming my suspicions. "Ella, I seem to recall that this man is the heir to the Flame Pack's Alpha. How did he become Alpha Matthew's Beta?" "That is indeed strange." Lia and I conversed in my mind. The next moment, Matthew's voice pulled me back to reality. "I have to go out. You can stay here as long as you like." I looked up. He was already dressed, ready to leave. "Oh, alright..." I nodded in confusion. He looked at me, his lips curving up into a slight smile. I found myself captivated once again. His shirt outlined his strong upper arms, and his suit pants tightly wrapped around his long, muscular legs. Moreover, he was indeed charming when he smiled. After he left, closing the door behind him, I checked the time and suddenly remembered I needed to go to the hospital. Lately, I had been interning at Bayside Hospital, studying herbal medicine and clinical treatment. I called my aunt, telling her not to worry about me and that I had found a way to get the herbs my mother needed. She was overjoyed, and her happiness brought a rare smile to my face in the past few days. Everything was difficult, but I knew I would persevere. Before long, I arrived at the hospital. "Ella, I brought you your favorite chicken sandwich." My best friend, Erika, waved excitedly as she approached me. I managed a smile for her and said, "Thank you." Erika came closer and patted my back comfortingingly. "Ella, I got your message. Why haven't you replied to my texts lately? You haven't been at the hospital, and I've been really worried about you. I went to your house to look for you, but... never mind, it doesn't matter. I'm just glad you're okay." I suddenly remembered that I had been so busy lately that I hadn't told her my family had moved to a cabin in the forest. Also, my phone had been stepped on and broken by Damien, and I hadn't had a chance to get it repaired, so I hadn't seen Erika's messages. My eyes instantly turned red as I said, "Erika, thank you. My phone broke, so I couldn't reply to your messages. I've moved to the forest west of the Starmoon pack. My father..." I choked up for a moment, but continued, "My father built a pretty big cabin there a while back. Anyway, I'm all right." "That's good." Erika hugged me, gently patting my back. I could tell that her voice was also a little emotional. Suddenly, a knock sounded at the office door. "Is Miss Ariella Beverley working here?" I was taken aback for a moment and looked up at the doorway. The man standing there was tall and handsome, dressed in a suit, exuding a subtle elite aura. However, I didn't recognize him. "It's me. What can I do for you?" He looked at me and smiled politely, saying, "Miss Beverley, hello. I am Alpha Matthew's Beta, my name is Parker Kempton. Pleased to meet you." I was stunned. "Why are you looking for me?" He still wore that polite smile as he said to me, "Alpha Matthew told me that you were interested in doing part-time work for our pack and would contact me, but I haven't received any calls from you. I found your work address, so I came here. I hope you don't mind." "Oh..." Only then did I remember that I had told Matthew I was a medical student. He had managed to find out where I worked so quickly. I nodded, "Yes. Let's talk outside." I nodded to Erika, signaling for her not to worry, and followed Parker out. Soon, Parker briefly explained some of the part-time job duties to me, such as organizing documents and checking financial statements. I had done similar work in my father's pack before, so it was relatively familiar. Parker was satisfied with my answers, and he quickly set a time for me to start working there. Since it was a part-time job, it wouldn't affect my work and studies at the hospital. I nodded in agreement. "Miss Beverley, I'll be on my way then." Parker handed me some materials to study and then prepared to leave with his bag. "Okay. Thank you, Beta Parker." I nodded and turned to walk back into the office. "Ah!" Suddenly, I slipped. With nothing to grab onto, I fell backward. The next second, a warm embrace caught me. My heart was pounding as I opened my eyes to see it was Parker. "Thank you." I quickly stood up, my cheeks burning with embarrassment. "Miss Beverley, be careful." He nodded politely and turned to leave. Too embarrassed to say anything, I hurriedly ran into the office. Looking up, I saw Erika's meaningful gaze. "Ella, that was Parker, the heir to the Alpha of the Flame Pack, right? You and he..." "No! There's nothing between us..." "Don't deny it! I saw everything! The way you just lay in his arms, looking into each other's eyes, it was so romantic!" "No!" "Don't be so stubborn." "No!" I didn't know how to explain it to her, and there was no way I could tell her about what had happened between Matthew and me, so I could only deny it through gritted teeth. Fortunately, several patients arrived, and we quickly became busy, not bringing up the subject again. The day passed quickly. In the afternoon, Erika invited me to have dinner with her, and I agreed. We arrived at the entrance of a steakhouse and were about to go in when I saw a familiar figure. It was Kiley! I stopped in my tracks. Erika followed my gaze and saw her too. Kiley was just coming out of the restaurant and quickly noticed us standing at the entrance. She approached us with a smug and arrogant smile on her face. "Ariella, Erika, how can you afford to eat here? Ariella, didn't your father's pack disband? You, a lowly rogue, dare to come to such a high-end restaurant like me? How preposterous! Erika, I remember your family has always been poor, hasn't it? Your mother is a breeder, isn't she?"Ariella's POV"Who do you think you are? Kiley, let me tell you, we're not afraid of you!"Erika was clearly enraged by Kiley. She pointed at Kiley's face, berating her with curses. Many passersby and diners turned their heads to look at us."What's going on? Why are they arguing?""We saw it all. It was this Kiley who first insulted these two ladies!""Miss Kiley, if you're not going to eat, then get out! What are you making a fuss about here?"Many of the restaurant's patrons spoke up on behalf of Erika and me, showing their support. Some even took out their phones to take photos and record videos, eager to post Kiley's unreasonable behavior online.Kiley was incensed. She rushed over and snatched a diner's phone, smashing it to the ground with a violent throw. The phone was shattered, and the owner let out a scream of fright. Her actions only further incensed everyone present."Ariella, you slut! It's all your fault!"She blamed all the accusations on me and charged forward to stri
Ariella's POV"Alpha Matthew is drunk. Can I trouble you to take him home?"I had just reached the door when I heard Parker ask me respectfully.I was a bit puzzled. Why did Matthew need me to take him home when he was drunk? Didn't he have a private driver?Just as I was about to refuse, Parker, as if seeing through my thoughts, explained, "I apologize for the inconvenience, Miss Beverley. I have indeed had a bit too much to drink and can't drive. Alpha Matthew's private driver is on leave for a few days. I really can't find anyone else, so I had to ask you. You know how special Alpha Matthew's position is. Moreover, he's drunk now. If I were to just find someone to take him home, I'd be even more worried."After saying this, Parker swayed unsteadily, as if he were about to lose his balance at any moment. I had no choice but to nod and agree."Alright, give me the car keys. I'll make sure Alpha Matthew gets home safely."Parker was overjoyed and immediately handed me the car keys bef
Ariella's POV"I..."I stared blankly at my mother, afraid to reveal anything about what had happened between Matthew and me.She still didn't know that Damien and I had broken up, so I bit my lip, ready to lie and say that the person I was with last night was Damien.Suddenly, she asked me, "It was Damien, right?"I hurriedly looked up and nodded several times quickly. My mother nodded as if she had breathed a sigh of relief."Mom, I'm sorry. I'm studying medicine because I really love it. And, I want to refine my own medical skills, become stronger, and be able to protect you and Auntie. If I can, I will rebuild my father's pack..."My mother let out a deep sigh. She said, "Honey, it's not that I don't want you to study medicine. It's just that I think it's too hard. Also, I've heard from some older werewolves before that the female werewolf healers in our tribe couldn't have children because of long-term exposure to a certain herb. I don't want you to take that risk."I blinked, a
Ariella's POVJust as I was about to speak, I heard Kiley's voice outside the door."Darling, Ariella went too far! She just humiliated me in front of everyone and even slapped me!" She sobbed as she spoke, dragging Damien into view at the office door.Damien's eyes registered surprise when he saw me, followed by a hint of guilt. But what shocked him even more was that Matthew was here too, seemingly engaged in some conversation with me.He didn't suspect much, after all, Matthew's father was ill. Perhaps Matthew had come to inquire about his father's condition.Damien looked at me and said, "Ariella, you've gone too far. You shouldn't have slapped Kiley no matter what. She's my fiancée now, and besides, Kiley's health has never been very good. What if something happens to her?"I snorted coldly and looked at Damien. "What does her health have to do with me? And she was the one who provoked me first."Kiley started crying again, pulling on Damien and looking pitiful. "Damien, I didn'
Ariella's POVI started in surprise, bending slightly and using my hair to cover my face as best as I could.Damien shouldn't know it was me in the car; he could only make out the outline of a woman.Matthew immediately unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car."I'm not available right now. Take a taxi back by yourself."He looked at Damien, exuding an authoritative aura and a chill that demanded obedience.Damien hesitated for a moment, then glanced again at me sitting in the back seat. Curiosity got the better of him as he asked, "Uncle Matthew, where are you going? There's a woman in the back seat, isn't there? Who is she?"My heart was pounding, afraid that Matthew might tell him something. After hearing his question, Matthew hesitated for a moment but said nothing. Damien immediately seized the opportunity, his hand on the door handle."Aunt, if you won't say, I'll just see for myself!"The next second, the door was pulled open. I quickly covered my face, but it was too late
Ariella's POVI couldn't convince Erika. Over the next few days, she was in high spirits, dragging me around the streets to shop for the most beautiful dress to attend Damien and Kiley's engagement party."Ella, everyone will be amazed by your beauty! I promise!" she said with a glowing complexion, her eyes sparkling with confidence. As for me, I was exhausted from being pulled from one clothing store to another, my feet aching terribly."Erika, can we take a break? I see a café up ahead. How about we go in and sit down?" I asked."No! Ella, you need to cheer up.""Sweetie, I'm really too tired. This is the last store, okay? Let's shop and then go back home."Erika pouted and said, "Alright. Then we'll come back and shop tomorrow.""Deal."We entered a gown shop. It was a high-end boutique offering custom-made clothing, with exquisite and unique designs that came with hefty price tags.Erika was instantly captivated. She picked out a few dresses for me to try on, and if they fit, she
Ariella's POVThe clerk was extremely embarrassed and said, "But...""But what?" Kiley pressed. "I said I like this dress. Wrap it up for me."The clerk, trembling and red-faced, replied, "Miss Leavett, this dress isn't in your size..."At this, several clerks covered their mouths, trying to suppress their laughter. I sized up Kiley. She seemed to have put on a lot of weight recently, probably due to her pregnancy.Kiley's face turned red with anger, and she immediately stepped forward to slap the clerk and snatch the dress from her hand."Get out of the way! You insolent woman. I'm pregnant, did you know that? You're slandering a pregnant woman!"The clerk covered her face, crying as she ran off.At this point, the woman who had come with Kiley spoke up, "Kiley, don't be like that. This dress really isn't suitable for you. Look, that pink one is quite nice. Why don't you try that one? After all, you're Damien's bride, and you'll be the center of attention. Unlike some women, who only
Ariella's POVI pressed the answer key, and Matthew's voice came through the line."Ella."His voice was as melodious as ever, deep and resonant like the sound of a cello, utterly captivating.I took a deep breath and said, "Don't call me Ella. I have nothing to do with you."As soon as I finished speaking, I subconsciously clenched my fists. I hadn't realized the sadness and reluctance in my own tone, slightly trembling, but mostly resolute.A faint sigh seemed to come from the other end of the phone. Matthew said, "Did you receive those dresses? Do you like them?"I shook my head stubbornly and said, "I don't need you to send me these things. I'll find a way to pay you back as soon as possible."After saying those words, I hung up the phone, and my hand, still gripping it tightly, trembled slightly.Looking at the brand new phone, my heart ached involuntarily. What did Matthew really think of me? A mere plaything to be manipulated at will, or a sexual object to satisfy his desires?
