It was a bright Monday morning.
Olima woke up in her bedroom at 5:30 a.m. She was wearing a light blue nightgown and rushed out of her room to tidy up the house. It was the first day of school, and her younger stepsister, Mia Adams, was going back to college.
Olima swept the entire mansion clean, starting from the top floor and working her way down to the first-floor living room. She swept and mopped everywhere until it was spotless before heading outside to clean the entire compound.
After finishing her work and ensuring that the entire mansion was neat, Olima returned to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for her younger stepsister. She knew that her stepmother and stepsister would soon wake up.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Gina Adams, a 39-year-old woman, woke up in her bedroom upstairs, the first room given to her when she initially married Mr. Leo Adams.
She yawned and stretched as she sat up carefully on the bed, staring around her bedroom and feeling like the madam of the house again.
"Hmm... How time flies," she said as she dropped her legs down from the bed and stood up.
Mrs. Gina was wearing a long white nightgown, and she slipped on the black slippers beside her bed, knowing that it was school resumption day. Her 14-year-old daughter, Mia Adams, was going back to college.
It was 7:00 a.m. when she decided to go downstairs to inspect the house and check if Olima had finished sweeping and mopping the entire mansion.
Mrs. Gina stepped downstairs into the living room and looked around. She saw that Olima had cleaned everywhere, and a satisfied smile curved her lips as she thought about getting her revenge by punishing Olima.
She walked up to the dining table, took a seat, and waited for Mia to come out for breakfast just before the school bus arrived.
Olima stepped out of the kitchen and saw her stepmother in the dining room.
She stepped out to check if Mia was ready for breakfast. Seeing her stepmother in the dining room, Olima quickly greeted the older woman, "Good morning, Mother."
Mrs. Gina swiftly turned to face Olima, her blood boiling at the sound of Olima calling her "Mother."
She rushed up to Olima and landed a hot, resounding slap on her left cheek.
[SLAP!]
"How many times have I warned you never to call me 'Mother' again in this house? Do I resemble your stupid late mother?" Mrs. Gina questioned angrily, glaring at Olima.
"No, Mother... I mean, Ma," Olima replied as she sobbed, while Mrs. Gina continued to glare at her and released Olima's shoulder, which she had gripped tightly. She questioned Olima again, "Have you prepared my daughter's breakfast? Or do you want Mia to be late for school today?"
"No, Ma, I have prepared Mia's breakfast," Olima shakily replied, and Mrs. Gina narrowed her eyes at her before moving away and sniffing the palms she had used to hold Olima.
Mrs. Gina hated Olima's scent; she smelled like apples.
She immediately went into the kitchen to wash her hands, eager to rid herself of Olima's fruity scent and feel irritated that it reminded her of late Mrs. Zoe.
Olima looked like her late mother and smelled like her, too, and Mrs. Gina detested that.
Similarly, Mia was standing on the balcony upstairs and witnessed her mother gripping Olima by the shoulders and landing a hot, resounding slap on her left cheek. The sound of the slap reverberated around the living room, shocking Mia as she just stepped out to walk downstairs.
Mia understood that her mother hated Olima, as Olima had enjoyed the luxury of their late parents' wealth. She knew how her late father loved Olima and late Mrs. Zoe while neglecting her own mother.
Mia, wearing a blue school uniform with white stockings and black shoes, carried her black school bag on her shoulder as she carefully descended the living room stairs, already headed to school. Her school bus would arrive soon.
Mia wasn’t ready to say sorry to Olima, so she looked away and walked over to one of the dining room chairs to sit down for breakfast.
Mia was a dark-skinned 14-year-old girl, while Olima was 17.
Likewise, Mia resembled their late father very much. Her mother had told her the whole story about how Olima's mother had begged her to agree to marry Mr. Leo Adams.
Mia had witnessed how her late father treated her mother like she never existed. She wasn’t happy with how her mother was treated inferiorly while Olima and her late mother were treated like royalty. Olima was the apple of their father's eye.
Settling into her dining chair, Mia placed her school bag on the chair beside her. Her mother stepped out from the kitchen and glared at Olima again.
Olima's brown eyes welled with hot tears as Mrs. Gina yelled at her, "What are you standing there doing? Haven't you prepared Mia's breakfast yet? Get into the kitchen and serve it up now before I break your head!"
Olima quickly ran back into the kitchen to serve Mia's breakfast, not wanting her stepmother to beat her that morning. She sobbed as she dished out delicious noodles and fried eggs into a red flat plate, placed it in a white tray, and stepped out from the kitchen to serve it on the dining table in front of Mia.
Mrs. Gina knew she had to live with her guilt of killing her best friend and their late husband out of jealousy. Olima resembled her late mother, while Mia looked like the late Mr. Leo Adams.
Mrs. Gina grimaced as she remembered when Mr. Leo was still alive; he usually fed Mrs. Zoe in front of her and pampered Mrs. Zoe in the dining chair across from her whenever they had their breakfasts and dinners together before she was sent to live outside the mansion.
She wished she had peacefully signed the divorce papers and left when Mr. Leo offered her a divorce after their first quarrel. But she stubbornly refused to leave, as she loved Mr. Leo so much and wanted him as her husband.
Now, Mrs. Gina had killed the truck driver to hide her secret for life. They were living in Emerson Estate, where the billionaire families resided, and she wasn’t ready to go to jail yet.
Mrs. Gina sighed heavily, and Mia asked her, "Mom, what's the problem?"
Mrs. Gina replied, "Nothing, Mia. I’m fine. What’s Olima still doing in that kitchen? Does she want me to storm in there and break her head?"
Olima quickly stepped out from the kitchen and walked up to the dining table, serving Mia’s breakfast while Mia adjusted her seat closer to the table.
Olima stood aside, wondering if she could talk to her stepmother about the need to resume her tutorial classes, as she really wanted to further her education and become a nurse.
She stood beside the dining table, and Mrs. Gina glared at her, asking, "What are you standing there doing? I thought I told you to leave?"
Olima shuddered in fear and moved backward a little, while Mia continued eating the delicious noodles and eggs at the dining table. Mia knew she didn’t know how to cook, while Olima had been forced to learn.
Olima hesitated near the kitchen door, thinking of trying her luck and pleading with her stepmother about the need to resume her tutorial classes.
She spoke, "Ma, it's about my university entrance examination form that I have spoken to you about?"
Mrs. Gina stood up from the dining chair harshly, pushing the chair back as she stepped away from the seat and said, "And I told you that you’re not going to any stupid university, Olima! How did you graduate as the best in your class and pass your examinations when you can’t understand simple English at home? Just get out of my sight now, before I give you another slap!" Mrs. Gina warned, and Olima quickly ran away toward the kitchen door, and stopping in her tracks.
Olima paused at the kitchen door, not wanting to give up on trying to plead with her stepmother. She had graduated as the best in her school, and if she had known, she could have accepted the scholarship program that had been offered to her.But she thought her father had better plans for her.She turned and begged Mrs. Gina again, “Please, Ma, I really need to write the university entrance examination to gain admission into any university.”Mrs. Gina growled, “And who will sponsor your school fees, Olima? Did you forget how your loving father cast me and Mia aside? Well, just in case you've forgotten, let me remind you that the money I’m using to feed you now is the money I’m supposed to use to pay the previous old maids I’ve sent away. There’s no money in this house, and I cannot take my business money to sponsor your education at any university. Why am I even explaining all this to you? Just get out of my sight now! Before I break your head!” Mrs. Gina shouted, and Olima finally w
Olima nervously replied, “No, Ma. I've checked the kitchen cupboards, and there's no food in there.”Mia frowned, feeling hungry, and asked, “Why didn't you say anything since this afternoon?”Olima stared from Mia to her mother in shock, recalling how she had been helping Mia with her school assignments. Mia had been acting nice and friendly, but as soon as Mia saw that her mother had arrived home, she would change and start acting rudely, mirroring her mother's toxic behavior.Mrs. Gina sighed. “Hmm, and you've been sitting here with Mia, watching television. Didn’t you know that you were supposed to come to my shop at the marketplace to ask for money to refill the house with food and the things you need to prepare our dinner for tonight? Did you expect us to starve tonight?"Mrs. Gina glared at Olima in a cold voice.Olima fearfully replied, “No, Ma.”Mrs. Gina's eyes narrowed at Olima, and she opened her purse, brought out some cash, and counted it.“Here’s ten thousand Naira. Befo
Olima finally found a taxi, climbed into the back seat, and told the driver her destination: “To the Emerson Estate.”The taxi driver replied, “Okay.”He started the car and drove ahead, with Olima as the only passenger. Upon arriving at the entrance gate of Emerson Housing Estate, the taxi stopped. Olima paid for her ride, quickly alighted, and rushed through the gate, running home speedily. The estate security guards stared at Olima, wondering what was chasing her as they recognized her.One of the security guards commented, “She's a gorgeous young lady, always running around on errands since her parents passed away.”The others remained silent and continued with their duties, as there were four security men present.*****Olima finally arrived home in front of her late father's mansion gate. She banged heavily on the gate, calling out to Nathan.Nathaniel quickly approached from within and opened the small gate. “Why are you banging on the gate like that?” he asked.Olima smiled fai
Nathan dragged Olima outside from the mansion, and she sobbed and begged him, "Please, sir, don't throw me out. I don't have anywhere to go to, please..."Olima cried, and Nathan replied, "I'm sorry, small madam, but I cannot help you now. You have to leave this house."Nathan was also worried as he didn't know what Olima did.He had seen her when she returned home and ran back into the house, and now she was sobbing heavily as Mrs. Gina ordered him to throw her outside.Olima begged, "Please don't throw me out. This is my father's house. I don't have anywhere else to go to, please."Nathan let go of Olima's hands and raked his short black hair on his head in frustration. He was a dark-skinned man and was of average height too.Mrs. Gina stepped out from the mansion and questioned, "Nathan! Is that witch still outside there?"Nathan stared at Olima in fear and pulled the gate open as he replied, "No madam. I have sent her outside."Nathan wasn't yet ready to lose his job, and he opened
Justin stared at Jesse's face in the strip-club parking lot, and after a while of contemplating, he said, "Do you remember the pretty lady we saw earlier when we were leaving the estate today?"Jesse smiled and replied, "Yes, you mean the young lady that ran away from you when you tried to approach her?"Justin glared at Jesse, but Jesse laughed and apologized, "Forgive me, boss."Justin yelled, "Jesse! How many times do I have to remind you to stop calling me boss?"Justin never liked it when Jesse tried to maintain the master-to-servant relationship between them.Jesse apologized, "I'm sorry, Justin, but you know that your father will be angry with me if he finds out that I am being friends with you and also calling you by your name."Justin replied, "I know, and that's why I want you to call me by my name, especially when we are not at home and in public places like this. To reduce other people's eyes on me."Jesse agreed, "Okay, Justin."Justin sighed frustratingly and said, "I jus
Jesse's eyes widened in shock as he saw Olima's face and recognized her as the same young lady Justin had been asking about earlier when they were at the club. Now, she looked more battered than when he had first seen her.Jesse couldn't believe she was the one Justin was seriously worrying about.Olima was still unable to speak about who had hurt her as she cried and begged Justin, "Please, sir, help me get to the estate gate."Justin asked her, "Why?"He held her left hand closely, not wanting her to run away from him again, but his phone continued ringing in his black suit trouser pocket.Jesse's phone also rang, and Justin knew that his parents were the ones calling him. Even though they sometimes acted blindly towards him, his mother always called to know where he was and if he was alright.Justin said, "Wait a minute..."He immediately took out his phone from his trouser pocket, and at the same time, Jesse's phone was ringing too.Justin's mother had called his father to complain
Justin's car finally drove into the garage and parked. He stepped out of the car first and saw his mother standing at the mansion's entrance, watching him as he walked over to the other side of the car to assist the young lady in stepping out.Mrs. Juliet was wearing a red, long, rosy nightgown and had rushed out upon hearing the sound of her son's car arriving in their compound.Seeing it was Justin brought her relief. Her husband had traveled abroad for a business trip to other states where he owned mega houses. She knew her husband often cheated on her, even more than Justin. But her husband, Mr. Emerson Robert, kept his promiscuous lifestyle a secret, thinking she wouldn't know. She had seen a lot of photos and videos of him with shameless young ladies who were proud to host her husband in their beds, despite knowing he was a married man and a billionaire. They wanted her to end her marriage, but she wouldn't leave her home for another woman to occupy. She believed that as long as
Justin walked into the living room with his mother, but Mrs. Juliet wasn't in a good mood at all. She questioned her son, "Son, just look at the time you're getting home—after 12 a.m. in the middle of the night!"Mrs. Juliet ranted, and Justin apologized to his mother, "I'm sorry, Mom. I saw her by the road, and I couldn't just drive past her.""Why, son? We have the estate security agency to help her out, and now with you bringing her here, it will prolong the matter and require more questioning and explanations. What if that young lady did something terrible in her family home or killed someone there, and you shamelessly brought her here to us, implicating us too?" Mrs. Juliet expressed her frustration."No, Mother! She's innocent and can't hurt a fly," Justin said, and his mother shook her head, her eyes narrowing at her handsome son."Alright, it's late now, and I want to go to sleep. Tomorrow, I want you to take her away from here. Or don't worry, I'll take her back to her family
Mrs Juliet still wanted to bond with her grandkids and she begged Olima and Justin to stay and not leave with the twins.Justin smiled and told his mother, "Mom, we are not yet leaving the house."Mrs Juliet sighed in relief and she took Mike and Henry around the mansion, she didn't want the two boys to leave her side. She called her husband on a phone call and showed him photos of the lovely two boys and also video calling with him.Mr Emerson smiled and told her that he wasn't aware and that he would book a return flight back to the country to come see his grandkids too.Olima and Justin stayed back in Justin's family house. They bonded together as a family and ate dinners at the dining table with his mother.Mrs. Juliet finally asked Olima if she had ever gone to pay a visit to her family house again since she left.Olima shook her head and replied, "No ma."They were eating on the dining table and Mrs Juliet spoke about Olima's stepmother. She told Olima that Mrs. Gina had been jai
Olima met with Mrs Juliet's gaze on her. She knew in her mind that if Mrs Juliet had another alternative, she wouldn't be in her office.Olima sighed and replied to Mrs Juliet, "I can understand your decision then ma. But Justin didn't want to."Mrs. Juliet frowned a little and met Olima's nervous gaze on her, She asked Olima, "Didn't you like my son? You made it look like it was only Justin who wanted you?."Olima's cheeks flame red in embarrassment and she replied to Mrs Juliet, "I did like Justin.. but.."Mrs Juliet stopped Olima from finishing her words, she asked Olima, "Tell me the truth. Are you now married? You look like a married woman and I am so scared of what I would tell Justin. I promised him that I would visit you and beg you on his behalf to come home Please come back home and forgive me in particular. I was just hard on you and I cannot explain why."Olima's face turned red as she almost sobbed, but she told Mrs Juliet, "I am not angry with you ma. I can never be angry
Two months passed after Olima and Justin reunited back as lovers, and they became a family even though they hadn't gotten married.Olima hadn't gone to Justin's house was beside hers, to see his house's interior decoration, as she was mostly staying in her own house. She has a lot of entertaining spots in her home, and they usually spend time together whenever Justin visits. They swim in her swimming pool and their twins get used to seeing them together.Mike and Henry already accepted Justin as their father, and Justin now looks healthy and has recovered from his previous slim looks. Unlike the last time that he looks unhealthy.****Jesse has not yet seen the lady of the house that Justin usually visits and even sleeps in her home every day.He only saw the maid of the house and he couldn't ask the maid any questions. One day, Justin's mother called him to return home and she thought to inform him that she had been searching for Olima and she hadn't seen Olima.Mrs. Juliet was not ha
Justin looked up at Olima's face and smiled. He replied, "Yes, I have. I owned the estate.""What?? But I didn't get to see your name there" Olima looked stunned, that she was running away from Justin's family, and she still ended up with him again."I know. I didn't put my name there, but your name is on the document and in my registry too. How about your dad's company? Don't you usually go there, or how do you cope staying here?."Olima smiled and replied, "I go there only once in a while. Mr. Luke gives me an update about the company and he's very trustworthy too. So I don't have to be there always or visit there.""Mm, I hope that you don't run away from this house before I should go to work and return. Or I shouldn't even leave at all, as I don't want you to run away from me again?" Justin asked, taking more steps to meet Olima, while their two sons kept staring at the two of them.Olima smiled and replied, "No, I won't. Where am I going to run away to?.""Do I know? Anywhere of
The following morning, Olima woke up feeling a small hand tapping on her shoulder as she and Justin were still sleeping on the bed "Mummy!" Mike screamed out as he looked shocked to see a man on his mummy's bed.Olima and Justin startled awake and woke up on the bed as they stare at the pair of blue eyes that was staring at them too."My goodness Mike! What are you doing here?" Olima asked in surprise and had totally forgotten that her two kids usually comes to her room every morning to wake her up early in the morning and she didn't usually lock up her room door too..Mike didn't responded, as he sat on the bed beside Olima on her left side and staring intently and suspiciously at Justin's face, as Mike hadn't seen Justin before, and seeing him for the first time, The little boy was wondering who Justin is?.The bedroom door pushed open again and Henry also walked into the bedroom as he wore similar white pyjamas like Mike's own.."Mom!" Henry exclaimed in shocked too as he walked i
Justin replied, "No, I am not... I am not angry with you. I am happy to see you and to be a father, and meet with you again. If there is anyone I should be angry with, Is my mother and not you."Olima frowned and Justin told her, "You shouldn't be feeling any pity for my mother, she doesn't want our happiness.""No, don't tell me that. She's your mom, she carried you for nine months and raised you all by herself. So you shouldn't be mad at her, She would have her reason, I don't know..""Hmm, You are kind" Justin smiled and walked up to meet Olima. He pulled her into a hug again to his chest as she was barely reaching his shoulder height. He said, "I know that is because you're a mother now that's why you're advising me not to be angry with my mother, but is alright, I won't, so long she doesn't come in between us again."Olima frowned a little knowing that Justin's mother didn't truly like her.Justin kissed her cheeks and said, "I do not hate my mom. I am just angry about everything.
Olima feels guilty and not being able to hear that Justin is there. She fears that he might also want to sleep there at her gate. She finally told her security man, "Is okay, Let me go out to see him. Or no, Just let him inside."Olima was worried that someone else who knew her might go out to inform Justin's mother and if truly he was the one, then there was no how he wouldn't have Jesse with him..The security man went outside to meet Justin.Justin looked at the man as he was typing on his phone and chatting with a client. The security man was older than Justin and probably Jesse's age group. He said to Justin, "Madam ask you to come in and see her.".."She has? I knew she was lying to you before., thank you "Justin stepped into the compound and saw Olima standing there in the center of the compound she stared away to her garage not wanting to stare at him as he walked up to meet her...Justin could see that she looked very maturely like a married woman.Even as the night sky had f
Olima was restless after she ran into her sitting room. She has a very strong feeling that the tall dark man that she saw earlier was Justin Robert."How is he the one that's living in the next compound? Justin? Are you sure he is the one?." Olima was worried as she knew that if truly that man that she saw was Justin, then she would be in trouble as he would find out the whole truth about her."What am I going to do now?" Olima had sent her two kids away to go and meet with Lady Eve downstairs, and though her two sons didn't want to leave her side, she had to call on their nanny to come and carry them away.Olima heard the loud knocking sound on her house gate at first, and with each passing second, she knew that the tall man was already at her house gate to confirm his suspicions and he was Justin too"Oh! What am I going to do now? Should I send Lady Eve to go and pretend that she's me and attended to him on my behalf? But Lady Eve is a black woman. Should I send Amara? But Amara i
Justin was stunned as he was standing outside in his garage and speaking to Jesse. He wanted to leave for his new company, which he had recently built, as his company was a fine art company, where he decided to try out his drawing skills and also meet with other top fine artists that were in their city.He was more into entertainment and though he still hadn't forgotten about Olima and wished to meet with her someday, no matter how many times he had gone to her company, and hired a spy to know when she secretly arrived. He was told that she hadn't visited the company for a long time now.Justin hasn't given up hope. He focused on his business and warned his mother never to speak to him about marriage and that she should adopt a grandson if she needed one.He stopped going home, after seeing that his mother wasn't yet ready to listen to him.She called him and told him that she would visit him, but he told her not to, to avoid them getting any further problems. His mother wouldn't stop
