**Seventeen Years Ago**
Mr. Leo Adams, a wealthy 29-year-old billionaire, fell in love with a beautiful woman named Zoe.
"Will you marry me?" he proposed to her in a public restaurant after two years of dating.
"Yes," Zoe responded, after which they had their lavish wedding.
Nine months later, Mrs. Zoe went into labor, but the doctor informed her that she had complications and it wouldn't be safe for her to welcome another child.
Mrs. Zoe cried, lying on the hospital bed. She told her husband, "I would have loved to give you more kids. Why?" But he assured her, "My love for you won't change."
Mrs. Zoe and her husband named their child "Olima Adams." She had brown eyes, blonde hair, and was an exact replica of Zoe.
Mr. Leo's love remained the same for Zoe, but two years later, he spoke to his wife about the need to have more children.
"Honey, I want to take a second wife," he told her, and Zoe was dumbfounded. She had a best friend named Gina Edwards. Both were 25 years old, and she had to confide in her friend.
"I cannot believe my husband wants to take a second wife," Mrs. Zoe said to Gina. "He promised me that his love wouldn't change. How can Leo do this to me?" Mrs. Zoe cried at her friend's abode. She recalled her husband telling her, "I just want her to bear me a son to take over my company and properties."
'African mentality,' she thought.
Gina Edwards had been secretly admiring Leo Adams, even while being friends with Zoe. She faked pity and told Zoe, "So what are you planning to do?"
"I don't know, but I am scared for this marriage. I could have considered having a surrogate, but I don't know if it will work. Can you accept to marry my husband? Please, I don't trust anyone else out there?"
Hearing the offer, Gina pretended to look disinterested. However, she wanted Mr. Leo badly. She had tried to seduce him, but he shut her out.
"How do you expect me to marry your husband, Zoe? You know that he doesn't like me and loves you very much," Gina refuted, shaking her head in refusal so that Zoe wouldn't suspect a thing.
"I will talk to him. Please, just agree to marry him. You're my best friend and like a sister to me," Mrs. Zoe said, clasping her hands together. "I cannot stand the thought of another woman coming in to take over my home. Please accept. I promise to speak with Leo, and he will agree."
"Fine. I will need some time to think about this," Gina replied, and Zoe nodded. "Thank you."
Later, Mrs. Zoe spoke to her husband about accepting to marry Gina, but he refused.
"So you're already cheating on me out there that you refuse to accept to marry my friend?" Mrs. Zoe questioned her husband accusingly, and he tried to explain himself.
"No, Zoe, don't get me wrong, but I don't like your friend. She looks at me like she wants me, but I never gave her a chance. Why would you want me to marry her?"
In their bedroom, Mrs. Zoe sighed and hugged her husband, standing in the room with her. "I can only trust Gina not to break my home. She's my childhood best friend and wouldn't do anything bad to me. Please..."
"Fine..." Mr. Leo reluctantly agreed, and he later went on to marry Gina.
The following day, when Mrs. Gina arrived at the lavish villa as Mr. Leo's new wife, she ordered him, "Send Zoe away. I cannot stand the sight of her in this room. We need to have a baby fast."
"What?" Mr. and Mrs. Adams' eyes widened, and Mr. Leo snapped. "What has come over you, Gina? Just today you arrived at my home as my official second wife, and you think you can order my wife around and send her away? So you have been pretending with Zoe all along?"
Mrs. Gina scoffed, "I wasn't pretending with her, but Zoe can agree with me that her presence would prevent me from conceiving faster."
"Shut up!" Mr. Leo cut Gina off, his eyes glaring at her.
"You should note that I didn't marry you because I love you or wanted you. Zoe pushed me into this, and I can get a divorce tomorrow if you don't behave yourself. Olima is still our child, and she will inherit my assets tomorrow, which you cannot change. So get out if you don't find it convincing to live here peacefully with my wife."
Mrs. Zoe's eyes welled up with tears as she realized her mistake. She shouldn't have pushed her husband to marry Gina. How did she not see through Gina's pretense?
"Fine. I am sorry; I won't quarrel with Zoe again. But where do I stay? I am your wife too?" Mrs. Gina questioned, and Mr. Leo led her to another room, as Zoe now avoided her once-in-a-lifetime childhood friend.
Mr. Leo comforted his first wife, telling her that his love for her would remain unchanged. He wanted to get a divorce and send Gina away, but Zoe stopped him.
"No. You cannot send her away after everyone already knows that she is your wife. The shame would be too much for her to bear."
Mr. Leo saw the pain in his wife's eyes and felt like his gut was being twisted with a hot knife. "It's alright, stop the tears." He comforted his wife, hugging her passionately before kissing her forehead.
Time moved by quickly, and Mrs. Gina saw that she couldn't win Mr. Leo's love as she had thought. She then went to meet Mrs. Zoe to speak with Mr. Leo about performing his marital rites with her.
"Ever since your husband married me, he hasn't touched me. He ruined my wedding night, and you don't find it in your heart to talk to him to be with me? Is that why you brought me into your marriage, Zoe? To show me how much your husband loves and values you?"
"No, Gina. Don't say that. Fine, I will speak to Leo tonight," Mrs. Zoe said, trying to calm her friend. Mrs. Gina replied, "Fine. I will be waiting after our dinner."
Mrs. Gina left the room, and Mrs. Zoe sadly blinked her tears away.
That night, after dinner, Mr. Leo wanted to make love with his wife Zoe, but she sent him away to Gina's room.
"Ever since you got married to Gina, you have been avoiding her in this house. You were the one who spoke to me about needing a wife. You cannot continue to avoid her. Please go to her room and perform your duty with her."
Mrs. Zoe smacked Mr. Leo's hands away from hugging her on the bed. Mr. Leo frowned but knew that Zoe was right. But he didn't like Gina; he wished he hadn't accepted to marry her. The way she openly gawked at him and lusted after him was unsettling.
"Fine. I will go and meet Gina," he said, getting off the bed and going to Gina's room.
Mrs. Zoe lay on the bed, her eyes filled with tears as she cried herself to sleep, knowing that it was what she had to endure.
Mr. Leo went to Gina's room, and despite not liking her, he took her to bed and made love with her.
*****
A few weeks later, Mrs. Gina wanted Mr. Leo to sleep with her again, but he told her, "Only one night is enough to get you pregnant."
Mr. Leo avoided Gina, not caring if he hurt her. He didn't want her and barely stood seeing her presence in his house.
One day, after Mr. Leo had left for the office, Olima Adams, a two-year-old girl, was with her mother when Mrs. Gina came into the living room and quarreled with Zoe. She accused Zoe of being a wicked friend and a bad influence.
Zoe was hurt, and when Leo returned home that night, she told him about the quarrel.
Mr. Leo didn't address Mrs. Gina that night, but the following day, he offered her a divorce agreement to leave his house and sign it. "I am fed up with your presence, Gina. Sign the agreement and leave. I will pay you off, and you don't have to worry about it. Our marriage is barely two months old."
Mrs. Gina looked at the document and refused to sign it. She knew that her parents had refused her marriage to Leo. So where could she possibly go? She told Mr. Leo, "No. I cannot sign it. I am pregnant with your child."
Mr. Leo became frustrated and knew that he couldn't send Gina away with his child growing in her womb, so he allowed her to stay until after she had welcomed his child.
Eight months later, Mrs. Gina went into labor and welcomed a baby girl. Mr. Leo's hope of having a boy was shattered, as he thought the baby would be a boy.
Mrs. Gina was happy to be a mother and named her daughter Mia Adams. She hoped that Mr. Leo would be with her again and get her pregnant, but Mr. Leo avoided her and sent her to live in the guesthouse.
Fourteen years later, Mr. Leo still hadn't touched Mrs. Gina again.
Mrs. Gina knew she couldn't cheat on Mr. Leo to get pregnant and give him another man's child, so she made up her mind to kill Mr. Leo and his wife and seize all of Mr. Leo's wealth, including his oil company.
Mrs. Gina was tired of seeing Mr. Leo and Mrs. Zoe acting lovingly toward each other, as Mr. Leo avoided her and never accepted any gifts from her.
With each passing day, Mrs. Gina yearned for Mr. Leo's love. She knew he would never love her, so she arranged for a truck driver to ram into Mr. Leo and Mrs. Zoe's car.
She knew they were going to Lemon Hill High School for Olima and Mia's graduation ceremony.
Mrs. Gina attended the graduation ceremony alone and took several photos with her daughter, while Olima waited in vain for her parents to arrive.
Later in the evening, when Olima, a 17-year-old girl, got home, she was shocked to receive the news of her parents' absence. She cried, knowing her stepmother hated her the most.
She wanted to leave the house too, but there was nowhere she could go.
Olima patiently waited for her uncles to arrive. When they did, they were more interested in asking Mrs. Gina about the oil company and other documents and the mansion.
It was only three months after Olima's parents' burial ceremony ended, and Mrs. Gina wasted no time arresting all her in-laws.
She accused them, "You guys are the ones who killed Mr. Leo and his wife to claim all of his wealth.'
"What?!" Mr. Leo's two brothers looked stunned. They arrived at the police station and had to sign an agreement never to disturb Mrs. Gina again. They left and never returned.
No one asked about Olima again, and Mrs. Gina moved into the main mansion that Mr. Leo had previously chased her away from. She threw all of Mrs. Zoe's belongings away, burned them outside, as she couldn't stand seeing all the beautiful portraits of her late friend on the living room walls.
Mrs. Gina replaced the empty walls with her own photos, leaving Mr. Leo's images on the wall. She fired the five housemaids, including the cook, and turned Olima into her housemaid.
"I think you saw how your late father treated me and Mia when he was alive," she told Olima. "Well, there is no money for you to further your education. So you will have to remain as my maid to help take care of this house that your late parents left behind. We cannot sell it to sponsor your education. That would be cruel of you to sell the only property we live in when we haven't seen the will or acquired another house. Isn't that so?"
Olima gulped hard and couldn't do anything against her stepmother. Her stepmother withdrew her from her tutorial classes and turned her into a maid.
She was forced to learn how to cook, wash the dirty dishes, and wake up very early in the morning to tidy up the house.
Olima had to take care of her mother's farm, and also trim the flowers. She cried, but her tears weren't enough to resolve the issue, as she watched Mia resume going to school. Even though her stepmother had already told her there was no money for her to resume.
A few days later, Mrs. Gina invited the family lawyer to learn about the late Mr. Leo's will.
Upon the lawyer's arrival, he told Mrs. Gina, "The will could not be changed. It stated that the oil company left behind by Mr. Leo Adams should be given to Olima Adams, but only when Olima turned 24 years old."
"What?!" Mrs. Gina was annoyed, scrambling to her feet and sent the lawyer away. She thought of how she could turn the oil company and all assets that belonged to her late husband into her own.
On a bright Monday morning, Olima woke up in her bedroom at 5:30 a.m. She wore a light blue nightgown and rushed out of her room to tidy up the house. She knew that it was the first day of school, and her younger stepsister, Mia Adams, was going back to college.Stepping into the living room, Olima swept the floor and then went outside to sweep the surrounding area as well.Once she was done with her work, she returned to the house and resumed mopping everywhere.Six months had passed since she lost her parents. A tear slipped from the corner of her eye, and she hastily wiped it away as she worked.Olima finished mopping to make everything look neat. Then she discarded the bucket and mop in the laundry room before going to the kitchen to clean it up and prepare breakfast for her younger sister.Olima knew that her stepmother and stepsister would soon wake up, so she hurried to finish cooking.Meanwhile, Mrs. Gina Adams, a 39-year-old woman, woke up in her bedroom upstairs. It was the f
Olima paused at the kitchen door, not wanting to give up on trying to beg her stepmother. She had graduated as the best in her school. If she had known, she could have accepted the school scholarship program that was offered to her. However, she thought her father had better plans for her.Turning, Olima begged Mrs. Gina again, “Please, Ma, I really need to write the university entrance examination to gain admission into any university.”“And who will sponsor your school fees, Olima?" Mrs. Gina snapped. "Did you forget how your loving father cast me and Mia away? Well, in case you've forgotten, let me remind you that the money I’m using to feed you now is the money I was supposed to use to pay the previous old maids I have sent away, because there's no money in this house, and I cannot take my business money to sponsor your education fees into any university. Why would I even explain all this to you? Just get out of my sight now! Before I break your head!” Mrs. Gina yelled, threatening
“No, Ma," Olima nervously replied. "I've checked the kitchen cupboards, and there's no foodstuff there.”Mia frowned and, feeling hungry, shouted, “Why didn't you say anything since this afternoon?”"Huh!" Olima looked at Mia in shock, then at Mrs. Gina, who stood there silently looking back at her.Olima had helped Mia with her school assignments. Mia acted nicely and friendly with her, but once Mia saw that her mother had returned, she changed and started mimicking her mother's rude behavior.Breathing out with relief, Mrs. Gina said, “Hmm, and you sat down here with Mia, watching television instead of going to the market. Didn't you know that you were supposed to come to my shop at noon to take the money to refill the house with foodstuffs? Did you expect us to starve tonight?""No, Mother," Olima fearfully replied, seeing her stepmother looking at her coldly.Mrs. Gina sighed once more, opened her purse, and brought out some cash. She counted it, saying, “Here's 10,000 naira. Befor
The taxi driver arrived at the vast black gate of the Emerson Housing Estate. The security men didn't allow him entry, and Olima paid for her ride before she nervously alighted from the car.Once Olima got out, she ran speedily through the estate gate, heading back home. The estate security men, who were standing there and searching the cars and motorcycles driving in and out of the estate, stared at Olima and wondered what was chasing her. They knew that was how she ran home every time."Isn't that Mr. Leo's daughter? She's a gorgeous young lady now, always running about without caring about her tempting looks," one of the four estate security men said."You better get your eyes off her; you cannot have her!" the others warned.Olima arrived home at the gate of her late father's mansion. She banged on the huge black gate loudly, calling out to Nathan. "Mr. Nathan! Please, come and open the gate."Nathaniel hastily rose from his chair and rushed to the gate to pull it open."Why are yo
Nathan dragged Olima outside from the mansion, and she sobbed and begged him, "Please, sir, don't throw me out. I don't have anywhere to go too, please, Nathan."Olima cried, and Nathan replied, "I'm sorry, small madam, but I cannot help you now. You have to leave this house."Nathan was also worried, as he didn't know what Olima did.He had seen her when she returned home and ran back speedily into the house, and now she was sobbing heavily, and Mrs. Gina ordered him to throw her outside.Olima begged, "Please don't throw me out. This is my father's house. I don't have anywhere else to go too, please."Nathan let go of Olima's hands and raked his short black hair on his head in frustration. He is a dark-skinned man and was of average height.Mrs. Gina stepped out from the mansion and questioned out, "Nathan! Is that witch still outside there?"Nathan stared at Olima in fright and pulled the gate open as he replied, "No, madam. I have sent her outside."Nathan wasn't yet ready to lose
Justin stared at Jesse's face in the strip club parking lot, and after a while of contemplating, he said, "You remember the pretty lady that we saw earlier when we were leaving the estate today?"Jesse smiled and replied, "Yes, you mean the young lady that ran away from you when you tried to approach her?"Justin glared at Jesse, but Jesse laughed out and apologized, "Forgive me, Boss."Justin yelled, "Justin! How many times do I have to remind you to stop calling me boss?"Justin never liked it when Jesse tried to maintain the master-to-servant relationship between them.Jesse apologized, "I'm sorry, Justin, but you know that your father will be angry with me if he finds out that I'm being friendly with you and also calling you by your name."Justin replied, "I know, and that's why I want you to be calling me by my name, especially when we are not at home and in public places like this, to reduce the other people's eyes on me."Jesse agreed, "Okay, Justin."Justin sighed frustratingly
Jesse's eyes also widened in shock as he saw Olima's face and knew that she was the same young lady that Justin was asking him about earlier when they were still at the club, but now she looked so battered than when he had earlier seen her.Jesse couldn't believe that she was the one, and Justin was seriously worrying himself about her too.Olima was still unable to speak about who had hurt her as she cried and begged Justin, "Please, sir, help me get to the estate gate?"Justin asked her, "Why?"He held her left hand closely as he didn't want her to run away from him again, but his phone continued ringing out in his black suit trouser side pocket.Jesse's phone also rang out too, and Justin knew that his parents were the ones calling him. Even though they acted blindly to him sometimes, his mother still always called him to know where he was and if he was alright.Justin said, "Wait first."He immediately took out his phone from his trouser side pocket, and at the same time, Jesse's p
Justin's car finally drove into the garage and parked. He stepped down from his car first and saw his mother standing at the mansion frontage and staring at him as he walked over to the other side of the car and assisted the young lady in stepping down from his car.Mrs. Juliet was wearing a red long, rosy nightgown, and hearing the sound of her son's car arriving in their compound and parking in their garage. She immediately rushed out to have a peek on who had arrived, and seeing it was Justin made her relieved. Her husband had traveled out for a business trip abroad to other states where he owned other mega houses there too, and she knew that her husband usually cheated on her, much more than Justin. But her husband, named Mr. Emerson Robert, kept his promiscuous lifestyle a secret, thinking she wouldn't know. She has seen a lot of photos and more likely videos of him with some shameless young ladies that were proud to host her husband in their beds, despite knowing that he's a marr
Mrs Juliet still wanted to bond with her grandkids and she begged Olima and Justin to stay and not leave with the twins.Justin smiled and told his mother, "Mom, we are not yet leaving the house."Mrs Juliet sighed in relief and she took Mike and Henry around the mansion, she didn't want the two boys to leave her side. She called her husband on a phone call and showed him photos of the lovely two boys and also video calling with him.Mr Emerson smiled and told her that he wasn't aware and that he would book a return flight back to the country to come see his grandkids too.Olima and Justin stayed back in Justin's family house. They bonded together as a family and ate dinners at the dining table with his mother.Mrs. Juliet finally asked Olima if she had ever gone to pay a visit to her family house again since she left.Olima shook her head and replied, "No ma."They were eating on the dining table and Mrs Juliet spoke about Olima's stepmother. She told Olima that Mrs. Gina had been jai
Olima met with Mrs Juliet's gaze on her. She knew in her mind that if Mrs Juliet had another alternative, she wouldn't be in her office.Olima sighed and replied to Mrs Juliet, "I can understand your decision then ma. But Justin didn't want to."Mrs. Juliet frowned a little and met Olima's nervous gaze on her, She asked Olima, "Didn't you like my son? You made it look like it was only Justin who wanted you?."Olima's cheeks flame red in embarrassment and she replied to Mrs Juliet, "I did like Justin.. but.."Mrs Juliet stopped Olima from finishing her words, she asked Olima, "Tell me the truth. Are you now married? You look like a married woman and I am so scared of what I would tell Justin. I promised him that I would visit you and beg you on his behalf to come home Please come back home and forgive me in particular. I was just hard on you and I cannot explain why."Olima's face turned red as she almost sobbed, but she told Mrs Juliet, "I am not angry with you ma. I can never be angry
Two months passed after Olima and Justin reunited back as lovers, and they became a family even though they hadn't gotten married.Olima hadn't gone to Justin's house was beside hers, to see his house's interior decoration, as she was mostly staying in her own house. She has a lot of entertaining spots in her home, and they usually spend time together whenever Justin visits. They swim in her swimming pool and their twins get used to seeing them together.Mike and Henry already accepted Justin as their father, and Justin now looks healthy and has recovered from his previous slim looks. Unlike the last time that he looks unhealthy.****Jesse has not yet seen the lady of the house that Justin usually visits and even sleeps in her home every day.He only saw the maid of the house and he couldn't ask the maid any questions. One day, Justin's mother called him to return home and she thought to inform him that she had been searching for Olima and she hadn't seen Olima.Mrs. Juliet was not ha
Justin looked up at Olima's face and smiled. He replied, "Yes, I have. I owned the estate.""What?? But I didn't get to see your name there" Olima looked stunned, that she was running away from Justin's family, and she still ended up with him again."I know. I didn't put my name there, but your name is on the document and in my registry too. How about your dad's company? Don't you usually go there, or how do you cope staying here?."Olima smiled and replied, "I go there only once in a while. Mr. Luke gives me an update about the company and he's very trustworthy too. So I don't have to be there always or visit there.""Mm, I hope that you don't run away from this house before I should go to work and return. Or I shouldn't even leave at all, as I don't want you to run away from me again?" Justin asked, taking more steps to meet Olima, while their two sons kept staring at the two of them.Olima smiled and replied, "No, I won't. Where am I going to run away to?.""Do I know? Anywhere of
The following morning, Olima woke up feeling a small hand tapping on her shoulder as she and Justin were still sleeping on the bed "Mummy!" Mike screamed out as he looked shocked to see a man on his mummy's bed.Olima and Justin startled awake and woke up on the bed as they stare at the pair of blue eyes that was staring at them too."My goodness Mike! What are you doing here?" Olima asked in surprise and had totally forgotten that her two kids usually comes to her room every morning to wake her up early in the morning and she didn't usually lock up her room door too..Mike didn't responded, as he sat on the bed beside Olima on her left side and staring intently and suspiciously at Justin's face, as Mike hadn't seen Justin before, and seeing him for the first time, The little boy was wondering who Justin is?.The bedroom door pushed open again and Henry also walked into the bedroom as he wore similar white pyjamas like Mike's own.."Mom!" Henry exclaimed in shocked too as he walked i
Justin replied, "No, I am not... I am not angry with you. I am happy to see you and to be a father, and meet with you again. If there is anyone I should be angry with, Is my mother and not you."Olima frowned and Justin told her, "You shouldn't be feeling any pity for my mother, she doesn't want our happiness.""No, don't tell me that. She's your mom, she carried you for nine months and raised you all by herself. So you shouldn't be mad at her, She would have her reason, I don't know..""Hmm, You are kind" Justin smiled and walked up to meet Olima. He pulled her into a hug again to his chest as she was barely reaching his shoulder height. He said, "I know that is because you're a mother now that's why you're advising me not to be angry with my mother, but is alright, I won't, so long she doesn't come in between us again."Olima frowned a little knowing that Justin's mother didn't truly like her.Justin kissed her cheeks and said, "I do not hate my mom. I am just angry about everything.
Olima feels guilty and not being able to hear that Justin is there. She fears that he might also want to sleep there at her gate. She finally told her security man, "Is okay, Let me go out to see him. Or no, Just let him inside."Olima was worried that someone else who knew her might go out to inform Justin's mother and if truly he was the one, then there was no how he wouldn't have Jesse with him..The security man went outside to meet Justin.Justin looked at the man as he was typing on his phone and chatting with a client. The security man was older than Justin and probably Jesse's age group. He said to Justin, "Madam ask you to come in and see her.".."She has? I knew she was lying to you before., thank you "Justin stepped into the compound and saw Olima standing there in the center of the compound she stared away to her garage not wanting to stare at him as he walked up to meet her...Justin could see that she looked very maturely like a married woman.Even as the night sky had f
Olima was restless after she ran into her sitting room. She has a very strong feeling that the tall dark man that she saw earlier was Justin Robert."How is he the one that's living in the next compound? Justin? Are you sure he is the one?." Olima was worried as she knew that if truly that man that she saw was Justin, then she would be in trouble as he would find out the whole truth about her."What am I going to do now?" Olima had sent her two kids away to go and meet with Lady Eve downstairs, and though her two sons didn't want to leave her side, she had to call on their nanny to come and carry them away.Olima heard the loud knocking sound on her house gate at first, and with each passing second, she knew that the tall man was already at her house gate to confirm his suspicions and he was Justin too"Oh! What am I going to do now? Should I send Lady Eve to go and pretend that she's me and attended to him on my behalf? But Lady Eve is a black woman. Should I send Amara? But Amara i
Justin was stunned as he was standing outside in his garage and speaking to Jesse. He wanted to leave for his new company, which he had recently built, as his company was a fine art company, where he decided to try out his drawing skills and also meet with other top fine artists that were in their city.He was more into entertainment and though he still hadn't forgotten about Olima and wished to meet with her someday, no matter how many times he had gone to her company, and hired a spy to know when she secretly arrived. He was told that she hadn't visited the company for a long time now.Justin hasn't given up hope. He focused on his business and warned his mother never to speak to him about marriage and that she should adopt a grandson if she needed one.He stopped going home, after seeing that his mother wasn't yet ready to listen to him.She called him and told him that she would visit him, but he told her not to, to avoid them getting any further problems. His mother wouldn't stop
