All of a sudden I was woken up by the sound of my alarm clock. I can't believe that nightmare is back, I was doing so good. Why was it back now? I rushed to the bathroom and splashed some water on my face, it's been more than ten years since that night yet I still can't forget about it. The nightmare always seems to find me. I got dressed quickly and got ready for work. Luckily I don't live far away, living above where you work has some privileges. The first two floors are my library cafe, I have to say I'm proud of myself for what I created. It's a perfect place to enjoy a good book or work on paper while the aroma of freshly brewed coffee accompanies you while sharing a conversation with a friend.
The third floor I made into my apartment, I still own my mother's house but since her passing, I just kind of stay here.I got downstairs just as Jess, the girl who works for me opened the cafe.
"Morning boss." She said as she put her apron on.
"Morning Jess, can you please prepare the last night takings I'm gonna need it to finish the accounts. End of the month and all, you know." I say as I grab my yoga mat.
"Sure, you are starting yoga?" She asked pointing to the mat.
"Ms. Robin got me a coupon so I thought why not? Please put the reserved sign on the table with the couch for Joshua."
As the first customers showed up I left for the yoga studio.
I got there just as the rest of the woman were putting down their mats and chatting. I went to my corner and put my mat down.
"It's a bit uncomfortable when you come here without a friend, feels like the first day of school all over again."A blond woman said to me as she came closer. "Yes, it is." I say as she puts her mat next to mine. She appeared to be somewhere between twenty-four and twenty-six more or less, and there was something about her eyes that seemed familiar.
"I hope you don't mind."
"Ohh no, go ahead at least I'll have someone to chat with. I'm Autumn." I say as I extend my hand.
"This union has to be the work of the universe, I'm Summer." She said as she shook my hand.
I don't know why but I have a feeling we will great friends.
For the last three weeks, me and Summer hung out a lot, she is funny and very cheerful. The business is going great the only thing always ruining my mood is a persistent man trying to buy out my building. He comes back every time with a better offer but the answer is always the same. One big NO. I got this building from my mother, and she got it from her father. For years it was abandoned until I decided to do something with it. With my business degree, I could have worked for someone but this place was calling for me.
"I love this place, Autumn. Can I post it on my i***a?" Summer said as she drank her coffee latte.
"I'm surprised you already didn't." We laughed as I watched a man in a suit come into the cafe. I thought that the shark had returned but the man took a seat at the table with another man.
"Thank God." I say.
"What?" Summer asked.
"There is this man that comes here lately, he wants to buy this place and obviously doesn't understand no for an answer.”
"If you have any problem just tell me, I can ask my dad for a favor." You would think Summer is just another rich daddy girl but she is really sweet.
"Thank you, Summer but I have it under control."
"Hey did you get me that book we talked about?" Summer asked.
"Oh yes, let me run upstairs and grab it." I ran upstairs to get the book and as I was returning I saw from the stairs a man talking with Summer. Something about him was so familiar to me so I slowly descended the stairs and listened to their conversation.
"What are you doing here brother?" Summer asked surprised, I couldn't see his face his back was turned to me.
"Well, my assistant couldn't close a simple contract with the old lady who owns this building so I had to come myself." His voice, I know that voice. It can't be.
That voice, it cant be him. "What old lady?" Summer asked him. He opened a file he had in his hands. "Sarah James." My mother. "My brother, you are very misinformed. I know the owner of this place." Summer looked in my direction. "Autumn come to meet my brother, Domenic this is Autumn." When he turned around, I... I thought my world shattered all over again. At least he looked as shocked as me while Summer just stared at us. "Autumn, are you ok? You look like you've seen a ghost." Summer asked me. "Autumn." Domenic said my name. He looked older yes, but more handsome than ever. "As it turned out my brother is the shark that wants to buy this place." Summer smacked him on the shoulder. "Your brother? You are a Davis Jones?" I asked shocked, she said she was Summer Danes. "Yes, wait you two know each other?" Do we know each other? No, we don't. The man that I knew never existed. I'm going to be sick. "We went to the same high school." Domenic said. His voice made me more s
We said goodbye and I went the rest of my day feeling a lot better about the situation between me and Summer. Later she sent me a text about where we were gonna meet up, It's a good thing I looked at the restaurant before going otherwise I would have come in jeans. I put on my green dress that suited my eyes and looked lovely with my chocolate brown curly hair. I got there a bit early and while I waiting I scrolled on my phone until I sensed Summer sat down at the table. "Took you long enough." I said as I set my phone down, but when I looked up I saw Domenic sitting in front of me. "First of all Summer has nothing to do with this, she is coming I just told her driver to take a few wrong turns. She wouldn't corner you like this." Stay calm Autumn, you already gave him the satisfaction of seeing you affected by his presence. "She wouldn't, but obviously you would." I said as I took a sip of water, my throat suddenly felt as dry as a desert. He scratched his beard and tugged at his e
I tried to go by my days not thinking about him. But it wasn't easy. All of a sudden I even dreamed about him. The tipping point for me was when I came home to find a basket full of sweets I used to love, records of the music I used to listen to, a copy of my favorite book, and my old perfume. The rage suddenly grew inside my chest, my heart was beating like crazy while I took my phone and called Summer. "Where the hell is your brother?" "At this time he is at work, why?" She asked intrigued. "Just send me the address, I'll explain later. And don't tell him I'm coming." I grabbed the basket and made my way to his workplace. Apparently, Summer called and let the security know I was coming so they let me in. His secretary on the other hand wasn't so welcoming, but I pushed past her into his office. "I'm so sorry Mr.Davis I tried to stop her." She apologized. "It's alright Melody, you can leave." He said as he got up from his chair. Damn, why does he have to look so hot in that
Two weeks have passed and sure enough, Domenic has kept insisting on talking to me. He didn't come in person every time but the flowers have kept coming in every day."Dinner?" was the only thing written on the card today. The card I threw away and the flowers I gave to Ms, Robin, it would be a shame to throw them into the trash."Do you wanna do something tonight? See a movie or something?" I asked Summer."Ohh I can't tonight. I have a date?" She said happily."With whom?" I asked as I put down a cup and threw a rag on the counter."A guy I meet online." "Why are you meeting people online? You are Summer Davis Jones for God's sake, men are literally chasing you." I say in disbelief."That is because they are after the Davis Jones part, not the Summer part." I can't relate to that problem but I can understand."And this guy isn't?""Well, he is meeting Summer Danes, so…” Ohh I almost forgot about the last name trick she uses."Right, that word game you play with your last name. I h
We got to an old-looking building, just the look of it gave my mine skin goosebumps. Domenic got out of the car and turned to me."You stay here." He said."Don't be ridiculous." I said as I got out. "Second floor, third door on the left." Said Dominic's security guy and the rest of them, including Domenic and me started running up the stairs. All of a sudden I realized we were going into the place not knowing what was waiting for us in there. "Domenic stop, I know the time is of the essence but we should call the police first. You can't just barge in there, you can get hurt." I said as I unintentionally grabbed his hand."Summer could get hurt." I added."We already called the police Autumn, I'm just not waiting for them." Just as we were about to go in we heard Summer scream and Domenic's man kicked down the door. What I saw next made my blood freeze. Summer was on the ground, blood coming from her stomach as she tried to put pressure on it with her hands. Domenic's man jumped on
Early in the morning, I got up to check on the cafe, which was in perfect order. I don't know how Jess did it but she performed a miracle. I got Domenic's shirt out of the dryer and put it into a paper bag before going to the hospital. I got there just as a nurse was leaving Summer's room. "Good morning, how is she? Did she wake up?" I asked quickly. "She is doing great, she should wake up any moment now." The nurse told me. "Is it ok if I wait inside? I won't disturb her." "Of course, Mr. Davis gave instructions to let you in when you came." He did? "Is he here?" I asked as I looked through the window into Summer's room. "He just stepped out for a coffee. He stayed the whole night." He did. Of course he did. I thanked the nurse and went into the room. When I sat by her bed it occurred to me that I could have bought some flowers. Summer looked pale, her hair a bit tangled. I took her hand in mine and noticed her nails were broken, she must have fought with her assailant. Sudden
I saw him get into the elevator and I jumped in as the doors were about to close. I even surprised him. "Autumn, what are...""What the hell was that?" I interrupted him."What?" He said as he put his arm on the elevator wall next to my head. He was so close his smell surrounded me hazing my mind, but I had to push through it so I walked past him to the opposite wall."I thought we had an agreement, Domenic, we talked about this. We are not friends, one thing is us having to share the same space for Summer, and something completely different is the crap you just pulled off in there." Domenic licked his lips as he walked over to the control board and stopped the elevator."What are you doing?" I asked him as he began to walk towards me, caging me up against the wall with his hands."First of all, I don't remember agreeing to anything you said yesterday, as you recall I didn't say a word. But there is one thing you got right. We are not friends." Domenic said as he drew his body closer
Two weeks later I was standing in the one place I never imagined myself, Domenic's kitchen, trying to save the last piece of toast he just burned."I told you I would do it." I say to him as I try to fish out the toast from the toaster. Iv been coming to his penthouse to help him take care of Summer because she refused to get a nurse, and once I offered it's not like I could take it back. "It's a toast. How complicated could it be?" Said Domenic to which I just waved the burned toast in his face."Does anyone care that I don't even want the toast?" Summer yelled from the living room couch."Fine, I'll make you a smoothie bowl." I yelled back as I moved to the refrigerator and Domenic went to clean the counter. "You don't need to do it, I'll clean it later." I say as I put the fruit on the cutting board. He tossed the bread crumbs aside as he walked over to me from behind pinning my stomach onto the kitchen island as he prests himself against my ass."Since the first time you entered
Sasha lets him fall into one of our Victorian chairs while Adam and I stand in front of him like parents who are about to scoll their child. But this talk was very necessary, for the sake of our sibling bond and their friendship.I glance at Adam, silently asking him if he’s ready for this. His calm smile reassures me. He’s been patient, waiting for this moment to happen, but I know it’s not easy for him either."Sasha," I start, my voice steady but firm, "we need to have a real talk about all this because Adam isn’t some phase or fling. He’s serious, and I am too. And I need you to accept that. Not just for me, but for us...all of us.""So, let me get this straight," he says, finally breaking the silence, his voice low. "You two have been sneaking around behind my back, hiding this whole thing, and now suddenly I’m supposed to just accept it? What was all that about, huh?"Adam shifts next to me, his hand resting lightly on my back, but I can feel the muscles in his shoulders tense up
...That night... "...so now we are not only friends and brothers-in-law but I had the privilege of being his best man. What he and Autumn have is special, anyone can see that, and all I can say is that I wish them both happiness. Also Autumn I'd like to ask your permission to take him out this Friday to play ball." Anthony jokes as he finishes his best man speech. I once heard of a so-called bromance Domenic and Anthony had pretty much ever since they met each other. Summer said she found it endearing. "As long as Summer gave you permission to go." Autumn hits Anthony with a comeback. "But Friday is a no-go, we have a Lamaze class," Autumn says as she touches Domenic's shoulder. "But you are free to join us," She added to which I started connecting the dots. Why Summer looked somewhat green on her face, why she didn't eat and why would she go to a Lamaze class... "That's a great idea." Summer says and Anthony looks at her strangely. "Why would we go to a Lamaze class?" He asks an
Alex's POV I woke up with a smile on my face as the light of the day shined over my face. Despite the cold, I wrapped myself into a blanket and sat in the corner of my balcony, breathing in the familiar salty ocean air. I used to sit here and watch over the driveway, waiting for Adam's car to drive in, and while everything seemed the same, everything had changed. Now, we were together, dreaming about a future and enjoying the present. A day I once dreaded would never come was now here and the happines set in my chest could be painted in a million colours. I smiled to myself, thinking about how far I’d come. How we had come. With Adam, I had learned to be whole. I closed my eyes, letting the wind brush across my face, and took a deep breath. The salty air mixed with the faint scent of coffee surrounded me too and I suddenly opened my eyes to meet Mrs.Henrdics standing at the balcony door with coffee in hand. "Good morning." She says as she walks over to me and hands me to warm cup.
"How is Autumn?" Eloise asks us as soon as we walk in leaving her cup of tea on the living room table."She is alright, as is the baby. They are gonna keep her overnight. Domenic stayed behind but I think Richard and Sasha will go home soon." I say as her eyes travel to the spot where Alex and I are holding hands when my mother comes to stand by Eloise. The smile on her face told me everything I needed to know."So... the two of you..." Eloise gestures between Alex and me. "How long has this been going on?" She asks."A while now," Alex says. "And before you start, it was my idea to keep it a secret. I didn't want our families involved before we were sure of where this was going." "I think that was very sensible of you." My mother says as she joins the conversation. "So now that you are sharing the news does it mean it's official?" "But they didn't share the news, they were discovered in a secret. There is a clear distinction." Eloise says.Alex laughs softly at Eloise’s comment, squ
"How is she? Can I see her?" Domenic asks as he jumps to get to him before everyone else. "Miss Cromwell is fine, she and the baby girl are stable. Her blood pressure went up which caused her to faint. I'm going to recommend bed rest until the baby gets here to avoid any possible complications." The doctor says and one could see and feel the worry melt off of our backs. "Did you talk to her? Did she remember anything? Is that why she had the crisis?" Richard asked as I stepped back and took Alex to my side wrapping my hand around her, keeping her close. Perhaps it wasn't the right moment but being able to hold her in public gave me a sense of power I never had before. "We talked for a brief moment and she described to me what happened, all the excitement of the wedding and the events that happened after took a toll on her, but she remains not remembering the past." We listen as the doctor talks and Alex smiles. We didn't care about the memories so much anymore. Autumn was alright
"What happened?" Richard yells as he runs to Autumn's side, almost crushing down at the site of her unconscious body in Domenic's hands. "I'm so sorry... I didn't think..." Rachel said as she watched what her words caused. "What did you do?" Richard asks her with fury in his eyes but Rachel only stares at Autumn in shock while Leo does the best he can to hold on to her. "Help is on its way!" Alex yells as she comes back and sticks to my side. Her hands are cold as they slip into mine. I wasn't sure if it was from the cold or from the situation that was in front of us with both Autumn and Sasha. "Dont wait. Get her in the car and drive to the hospital. I'll go with you and make sure they take good care of her." My dad says as he helps Richard stand up and move away from Autumn. Domenic lifts her in the air, and her veil falls down onto the floor. The sight was heartbreaking, this day turned out to be everything but perfect. First Alice, now this. I just hope it doesn't get any wo
Miguel jumps at Alice, grabbing her hand while the other guy manages to take the gun from her, ultimately pinning her to the ground when Alex pulls me back as the rest of the family gets up and gathers up at the front. “Let go of me, I'm not done yet!” Alice yells as she struggles to free herself but to no use as Miguel ties her hand to her back. “It's over Alice, it's finally over. You won't be able to hurt us ever again.” Domenic says as he presses Autumn to his side while Miguel lifts Alice, her hands pinned at her back. “Take her to the security room and call the police. She won't escape this time, not on my watch.” Richard says while rubbing Autumn's shoulder, trying to make sure she is ok. She look pale, shook but somewhat alright. She held onto Domenic the same way Alex didn't let go of my hand all this time. “He is lying to you, everyone is…” Alice says but Miguel drags her away. She was trying to do damage to the last second she could use. So much haterade in such a s
I always found weddings to be beautiful, yet this one was special. This was about my friend, someone who I knew would always be in my life, but I somehow knew that from the day I met her. Now sitting here, watching the smile on her face as she stared at the face of her loved one, the man she chose yet again despite every odd, despite not knowing the past. A path she chose solely based on what she felt within herself, and that was love. I had my doubts about it, I had my doubts about Domenic... the things I knew about their past, the things I didn't share with anyone else, not Alex, not Richard... I saw the regret in his eyes, I saw the pain but I also saw the love... and I wish them happiness. The same one I wished for myself and the woman who was sitting next to me right now. My love. My Alex. Today wasn't just the start of a new life for Autumn, this was also the day that meant something big for Alex and me. This was the day we would finally stop hiding. The day everyone would final
"Adam, where the hell were you? We are going to be late and you still haven't changed." Mom yells at me as soon as I step through the door. "I had some business to take care of. Dont worry I'll be ready in time." "Business, on a day like this one." Mom asks, her nad on her hip and eyebrow raised scepticly. "You look great by the way, where is Dad? You should go check he doesn't get something on his suit before we have to leave... I'll go shower now, bye." I manage to ramble up and run upstairs to get ready. Luck had it that Rosie had already got my clothes ready and waiting for me on the bed so I showered, got my hair ready, and got dressed just as a text came for me letting me know Derek was booked and taken care of. One more reason to party. ... "See, there was no reason for all that rushing. I had plenty of time to finish my meal." Dad said as we got out of the car at the Cromwell mention. It’s the perfect place for a wedding...grand, romantic, and more than enough to make an
